"A Christian is never in a state of completion but always in a process of becoming." - Martin Luther PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: This quote is so appropriate. We have to remember that none of us are perfect and we need to continue to strive to improve. The Church (& our school) is full of sinners so continue to pray for us. Today is MID-QUARTER already. Keep on doing your best. PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Herard: Brr! Hoping we all stay warm and well as we head into February. SHOW and TELL will be next week, Thurs. the 8th. Valentine Party information was in backpacks last week with reminders of who had signed up for food, drinks, etc. Remember, no school on Feb. 16 or 19th. week's spelling test! I'm very proud of them and feel certain they can accomplish the same again this week. Happy February Birthday to Mrs. Steichen and to Mrs. Schatte. God's Blessings to them and to you! THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Heitman (Steichen): Congratulations to Mrs. Steichen on the birth of her baby girl! I am excited to be subbing for her these next few weeks. Please be patient as we work through these first few days. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me through fast direct, or on my cell (405) 473-6451. Jennifer Heitman This week: Spelling: Unit 4 week 1, test on Friday. Reading: NO test or paragraph; we are still reading our chapter book. Ask your child what they think of it so far. A.R. we are cruzin though this quarter, the end will be here before we know it. Please ask your child where they are with their goals. Book Reports: new packets will be sent home this week. Memory: 9th Commandment and its meaning. FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: I hope that we are all working on our Invention Convention projects. Due dates are listed out in the Inventor’s Log. Please ask me if you have any questions. This packet has everything you need to know, & should be going home daily. Please ask if you have ANY question. The first deadline is Tuesday. You may not make any changes after this date to have a successful invention. This a great project that requires specific steps & details. January Book IT sheets were due on Tuesday. Some are well on their way to making their AR goals already! Many have found that without nightly reading at home, it can be difficult to make our AR goal. Continue practicing the multiplication table; we are now doing long division & exponents that require exceptional math fluency. Help the kids to be patient to be with these specific and detailed processes. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: It's hard to believe that we're at the end of January already! We really enjoyed learning about life in Cambodia last week. God is using His people to spread His word so that many people may hear about and believe in Jesus as their Savior. This is a review week in spelling and reading so I am spending some time to review in math. We have a language test Thursday and a math and social studies test on Friday. Field trip permission slips and money for the Ice Center in Wichita are due this Friday. Blessings!

MIDDLE SCHOOL STUCO – Mrs. Harbeson: The second semester student council met on Tuesday, January 18. The representatives from each class are as follows: (8th) Margaret Blackstar, Jenna Stockton, and Kaden Swords (7th) Trinity Bond and Madux Johnson (6) Jaclynn Heitman, Kyle King, and Madelyn Blackstar. During the meeting, officers were elected. Margaret Blackstar will serve as president; Kaden Swords as vice president; Madelyn Blackstar as secretary; and Kyle King as treasurer. After the election of officers, the group discussed future plans which include National Lutheran Schools' Week, the spring dance, and a philanthropy project. To keep up-to-date on student council and school information, check back to future Cardinal Chatters! Mrs. Harbeson: Hello, Everyone! I hope you're having a fantastic week! 8th Grade Night was great, wasn't it? It was awesome to honor our seventeen players and cheerleaders, along with their parents, on Monday night. Thank you for all the hard work and support you have given to First Lutheran over the years! We love you! Mid-quarter is today... Please know that there is plenty of time to bring those grades up if there is a class or two that needs some extra TLC! In language, all classes are finishing up their first novels of the quarter and are preparing to take AR tests. In writing, all classes are starting a new writing project on the winter Olympics. In grammar, we are finishing our punctuation and sentence structure units and are preparing to test next week. Blessings to you all! Mrs. Hanson: MID QUARTERS?! Where does the time go?! All classes have a test this Friday. If you will not be here Friday, you will need to take it Thursday, please. We will review all week in class but studying will need to be done at home as well. Read, watch animations/videos, run vocab, go over reviews, etc. Lots of ways to study. Remember to send someone you love or appreciate a flower this Valentine's Day! Mrs. Pacey: February is here and it is mid-quarter! It is such a strange year. Valentine’s Day is Ash Wednesday, and Easter is April Fools. We have just finished our Ch. 5 tests in every class except 6th grade. Every weekend every student has the opportunity at extra credit by completing the Weekend Blitz. Usually it will be MobyMax for every class except Algebra. Let's make it another great week in Cardinal land!

Mr. Covert: We’ve made it to February! I pray that everyone is doing their best to stay healthy and help keep sickness at bay. We’re going back to where we were prior to our online mission trip in classes this week. The 8th grade is going over some of the fundamental changes to our country following the Civil War, looking at the changes to some of the major groups in the US. In 7th grade, we’re currently going through both North and South Europe, comparing and contrasting the two. 6th grade is finishing up the fall of Rome, and we’ll be moving into the spread of Christianity afterward. In other news, I managed to get a website for my classes up and running, though it is very much a work-inprogress. The URL is sites.google.com/view/coverthistory. Each class has their own drop-down menu, and for 7th and 8th grade you can find a link to the website students use for the book and homework. There is also a calendar on each page with a tentative schedule for the week ahead. They will also have homework listed if I expect there to be a homework assignment that day as well as the day that assignment will be due. I plan to do my best to keep this updated throughout the rest of the school year and into the future. I pray that God continues to bless our school family as we transition from January into February. Blessings on your week!
