PICTURE DAY PORTRAIT PACKAGES: There were some ink issues in the printing process resulting in streaks and splotches on some of the portraits. We have already been in contact with Lifetouch, and they are re-printing them. A few pictures had gone home before we noticed the problem; if your student has already received their picture packet, please return it to your teacher or the office. The replacement pictures should be in by Thanksgiving. DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME SATURDAY! Remember to set your clock back one hour this Saturday, night/Sunday morning. And, since you get an extra hour of sleep, please join us for worship at First Lutheran Church at 8:30 a.m. for Traditional Service, Sunday School at 9:45 a.m., and/or Contemporary Service at 11:00 a.m. We would love to see you! PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Colors of the Season - Is October the color of pink for Cancer Awareness, red for Red Ribbon Week/Drug Awareness/Fire Prevention, orange/brown for Autumn? I love this time of year when the heat of summer is gone and before the cold of winter is upon us. I praise God for giving my family this opportunity to experience the changes in seasons which is extremely different from Central Texas. May the love of God and his protection fill you with peace during this changing world. CHATTER ONLINE: If for some reason you don’t get the Cardinal Chatter on Wednesday, you can view it online! It is on our web page at flspc.org, then click on “Chatter” in the dropdown box under “Communication”, or go to http://flspc.org/page127.html to get there directly. You can also find the Cardinal Chatter on our facebook page, “First Lutheran School-Ponca City, OK”. While you’re surfing, be sure to check out First Lutheran Church’s Facebook page, “First Lutheran Church - Ponca City, OK”. BAND: DRIVERS NEEDED. At this point, we do not have enough drivers for our trip to hear the OKC Philharmonic. Please contact Mrs. Jones if you are able to drive (761-6143). Practice sheets are due weekly and are part of the band grade. AUCTION MEETING...spring auction is PTL’s biggest fundraiser of the year. We will be having an auction meeting Thursday November 6, in the library at 2:30. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Those who can't make 2:30, please text or call Darleanna at 580-716-1057 and we will set an evening meeting. You may also use FastDirect. A little help from everyone makes the auction a BIG success. VISION SCREENING VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We need volunteers to help with the vision screening on Tuesday, November 18. If you would be able to help with this, please contact the office. Thank you! CHAPEL OFFERING: This week will be the last week in October to bring an offering for "Habitat For Humanity" during Chapel on Wednesday. Thank you, and have a wonderful week! STUDENT COUNCIL: This week FLS is celebrating Red Ribbon Week to remind us all to be drug free. We’ll have dress up days all week as part of the celebration. Thursday: Tacky Tourist Day; Friday: Crazy Day or Costume Day. Also, next week, Student Council will sell “Halloween Greetings” for 25 cents each. Any student (or parent) may “order” a greeting through their teacher. Student Council will add a “sweet treat” and deliver to anyone on campus on Friday afternoon, Oct. 31. This is a fundraiser for the Student Council. NEED A FLATBED: Our band class is in need of someone to pull them on a flatbed for the Veteran’s Day Parade on November 8; if you can help, please contact Mrs. Denise Jones at 761-6143. LIBRARY: Tomorrow at lunchtime the Middle School will celebrate their first quarter AR goals. We will be walking to Sonic. Sonic is providing ice cream, but students will need to bring money or a lunch. I would welcome

any parents who would like to join us! I would also like to give a special "thank you" to all of the parents who helped with the elementary scavenger hunt. You are highly appreciated! BOXTOP CONTEST: Are you saving BoxTops? Our fall contest will conclude at the end of October and we’ll declare a winning class for the most BoxTops brought to school. Please attach them to the form attached at the end of the Chatter, and turn them in to your students’ classrooms. Thanks for helping! BASKETBALL SEASON PASS: We have season passes available for home basketball games for the 2014-2015 school year! They will be $20 for adults, $15 for Senior Citizens, and $10 for students. These passes will be good for home games only, not including tournaments. If you would like to purchase one, the passes may be purchased in the school office. 3RD ANNUAL CHRISTMAS MARKET: The 3rd Annual Christmas Market Oklahoma Festival will be held Saturday, December 6, 2014 on our church and school campus. Booth fees benefit the First Lutheran School Scholarship Fund. We are currently accepting applications from artisans, crafters, and vendors. If you, or a church/school group or class would like to have a booth to raise money for a specific need, we would be delighted to have you participate. Mrs. Harbeson: Hello, Everyone! I want to thank all the parents who came on Friday for parent/teacher/student conferences. I really enjoyed talking with you! Several of you reviewed your child's grades and work at home and sent back a note saying that you didn't feel it necessary to meet. For some, I haven't heard back through FastDirect or by note. For those 6th grade families, I will be contacting you to "touch base." I may ask that you and your student meet with me to go over a few things. 7th grade...our theater trip is quickly approaching. We will be heading to Midwest City next Wednesday, November 5. I will be setting up the ride list by this Friday, so I need a final count of all who are going. (It might be possible to order more tickets. Please FastDirect me if you would like to go, but didn't originally sign up.) We are getting into a very busy time of the year, and I want to encourage both parents and students to keep up-to-date with assignments and important dates. Between basketball and cheer, we have A LOT of activities going on in the next few weeks. Be sure to check out the school FaceBook page, your teachers' bulletin boards, and the weekly Cardinal Chatter that comes home every Wednesday. As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call or drop me a note on FastDirect. Blessings! Mrs. Hanson: 6th Grade will test Thursday, and 7th Grade will test Friday. 7th and 8th Grade have projects that are due at the end of this week and beginning of next, respectively. Cheerleaders need to reserve hotel rooms for the Hope tournament. Information is on my website. 7th Grade will be visiting the Hutchinson Salt Mine Friday, November 14. I will need only 6 drivers. A permission slip has gone out and needs to be returned by Friday, Oct. 31. Mrs. Goll: It was good to visit with you on Friday at conferences. If we did not have a conference and you would like to schedule one, please contact me. We have had or are having math tests in all classes this week. The scores range from outstanding to not so great. With second quarter, more new concepts are introduced and students will need to spend more time reviewing and studying to remember all that they need to remember to make good progress. One of the best ways you can help your student is simply by asking him to spend a few minutes each evening telling you the specifics of the lessons of the day. Sixth and seventh graders are studying fractions; prealgebra students are studying inequalities, and algebra students are reviewing linear equations. God bless you as you continue to seek Him first…. Mr. Covert: Welcome to another week here at FLS! We’re moving right along to get in what we can before Thanksgiving hits, so we’re moving at a decent clip. In 8th grade, we’re just about finished with the Intolerable Acts, and we’ll be into the Revolutionary War at that point. In the 7th grade, we’re working our way through Central American and the Caribbean. And 6th grade is about wrapped up with Greek history, at which point we’ll move into the contributions the Greeks left the world. I hope everyone is having a pleasant 2nd quarter so far, and God’s blessings as we continue forward in it!

First Lutheran Church & School—Growing up into Jesus, Reaching out with Jesus, Walking together in Jesus

DON’T THROW THAT AWAY!!: First Lutheran School collects, and benefits from, donations of used/empty ink cartridges, old cell phones, BoxTops for Education, Campbell’s soup labels, and Coke points! Do you throw away ink or toner cartridges @ work? Do the kids on your child’s team drink Powerade’s or Dasani water (with Coke points under the lid)? Possibly your youth group had a lock-in and served cans of Coke, Sprite, Minute Maid or Fanta, (with Coke points on the inside flap of the box they came in?) Those ring binders that your school office uses may have BoxTops points on the labels! Please send all of these items to school with your child or drop them off at the school office, and your school will benefit from it! We can use the proceeds/points from these companies to purchase playground balls, classroom and office supplies, and discounts on our toner/ink needs, which all helps to keep your costs down! THANKS for your help!
