ENROLLMENT TIME! Attached to a prior Chatter were your enrollment papers for the 2017/2018 school year. Remember, at this time, enrollment is open only to current church and school families. To hold your students’ spot, be sure to return your enrollment forms and 1/3 enrollment fee, and have your enrollment fee paid in full by April 30. If you know a family new to First Lutheran School that is interested in enrolling, have them call the school office. If you refer a family with a student in 1st – 5th grades, make sure that they list you as a referring family on their enrollment sheet! If they remain enrolled through the first semester, in January of 2018 you will receive a $200 credit towards your tuition account! Two families earned a $200 credit last month by referring friends! ENROLLMENT OPEN HOUSE: We are holding an Open House on Monday, March 6 and Tuesday, March 7 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The teachers for PS3, Kindergarten, 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th will be specifically available on Monday, and the teachers from PS2, PK4, 1st, 3rd, 5th, & 7th will be available on Tuesday. If you know someone who is considering enrolling their student at First Lutheran School, invite them to attend one of these days for enrollment information. Be sure and tell them list your name as a referring family on the enrollment sheet! ASH WEDNESDAY - Next Wednesday is March 1st and the start of the Lenten Season of the Church Year. For the next seven weeks we will be focusing on the suffering that our Lord endured on this earth so that we could have eternal life. Next Wednesday for Chapel we will do the imposition of ashes which is when Pastor will make the sign of the cross on our foreheads with ashes (representing our burnt up/destroyed sins). Students do not have to do it, but most will. PICTURE DAY: February 23 is Class Picture Day and Individual Spring Portrait Day. We will have a makeup day on February 24 for Individual Spring Pictures for any students absent on the 23 rd. To order a class picture, fill out the form that came home with your students last week, attach a check, and return it to your student’s teacher before the 23rd. You do not need to order the individual spring portraits; pictures will automatically be taken and packets will be sent home next month for you to review and/or order. You can choose the background if you want, for your students’ pictures; the form for this was also sent home last week. Extras of both forms are available in the office. TALENT SHOW: Get your talent dusted off for the Talent Show coming up. Are you making your plans? We are! This year's talent show is March 31st at 6:30 p.m. Technical Dress Rehearsal is the 31st at 2:00 p.m. Auditions are March 22nd in the gym at 3:30 p.m. Talent show applications will be available in the classrooms next week. DAYCARE - A Spring Break signup sheet is now available, we will need at least 15 children each day to open. Last day to sign up will be Monday, March 6th. MY COKE REWARDS—HELP NEEDED! The Coke Rewards site is changing, and we have more codes than we can get entered before they stop accepting submissions (they limit us to so many entries per week). Do you have an active My Coke Rewards membership? Could we use it to enter codes and then donate them to the school? If so, please contact the office with your login information. THANK YOU! CAFETERIA – Mrs. Lyons: Per page 8 in the Parent Handbook, fast food and pop are not permitted in the

lunchroom, by students or parents. (They may bring a healthy meal like Subway). However, every day there are Sonic, gas station drinks, Starbucks, or donut trash left for me to pickup. Please remind your children to pick up after themselves by taking their trays up. If they drop stuff on the floor, pick it up. Some of the elementary students keep running in the cafeteria. I have repeatedly asked them not to but they keep doing it. They want to play in the bathrooms and foyer, but they need to come into the cafeteria. There are several things they can do. Some students are trying to study or read. I would appreciate if you could please talk to your child. If it continues I'm going to make them come in and just sit until the bell rings. If you have any questions, feel free to call me. I'm in the cafeteria from 7am to 2pm. If you need another copy of the handbook, please call or email the office. Thank you ATTENTION ALL PARENTS!!! Take advantage of the greatest opportunity. Every $100 of Cardinal Classic Golf Tournament sponsorship with your child’s name on it is a chance to receive $200 off of your FLS current cost. CALLING ALL GOLF LOVERS!!! CALLING ALL SCHOOL & GOLFER LOVERS!!! Pease mark your calendars for the next golf meeting - 03/07/17 in the fourth grade room at 4:30. If you still want to help support our school, come to the meeting on the 6th. Remember the Cardinal Classic is at Wentz Golf Course Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. We need everyone’s help to have a successful Cardinal Classic this year. See you on the 7th! We need your help to have full teams!!! BOX TOPS – BOX TOPS! BOX TOPS! Save those Box Tops! Each one is equivalent to 10 cents so when we put them altogether we raise a good amount of money. If you would bag them in groups of 50, that would be helpful. Our contest will run until March 1 and the class who contributes the most will win a pizza party. Your trash could be our treasure! Thank you! Mrs. Powell LOST AND FOUND - If your student has lost a coat, please check with the Amanda Porter-Cain. THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Three weeks till Spring Break! We can make it. Please check FastDirect for your child's grades. Grades are up to date; please let me know if you have any questions. This week: Memory: John 3:16. Spelling and Reading Test on Friday. Book Reports: please let me know if you have any questions. These are due on Friday! Have a wonderful week! FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: School Pictures are tomorrow. Smile pretty! Look in the Friday Letter for the SE State & Cap test. Invention Convention only has a couple of weeks left. This is a great project to expand our minds and thinking. Make sure that we are reading for Book IT and AR. It is starting to come down to the wire, some of us have made our goals and some have a long way to go yet. Keep Reading! There are only less than 13 days left in the quarter. As the quarter winds down quickly make sure that we are staying on top of academics. Our education to be strong fourth graders to prepare to be a fifth grader is not over yet. I am here for any questions. Blessings on your journey with Christ. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: This quarter is flying by! How is your child doing on meeting his/her AR reading goal? Some of us need to read at home, not just school, in order to meet the goal that they set. AR is an excellent way to work on comprehension. I would like to see everyone meet their goal this quarter. Tests this week include spelling and reading on Friday. There will be a social studies test over chapter 6 next week. Your child will keep you posted on the exact day. Blessings!

MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT COUNCIL: We hope to see all the middle school students this Friday night at the gym for our highly anticipated Winter Dance. We will meet from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Girls may wear dresses and boys may wear slacks and button up shirts or polos. Punch and snacks will be provided. Please join us for a night of fun! Mrs. Harbeson: - Greetings! I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend! The boys and girls varsity basketball teams represented First Lutheran well this weekend in Topeka. Congratulations to the girls on winning second place and to the boys for winning third. We have just about three weeks left in the third quarter. Please continue working on studying and completing homework. The week break will be oh, so sweet after nine weeks of hard work! I hope to see all the middle school students at the Winter Dance this Friday night. We will meet from 6:30-9:00 p.m. It will be fun for all! Blessings on the rest of your week! Mrs. Pacey: Happy Belated President's Day! I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend! Mrs. Hanson/Mrs. Hercyk: - Congratulations to the FLS basketball teams and their hard work over the weekend playing in the Topeka Tournament! 2nd and 3rd place finishes - Awesome! This week our 8th graders will become parents to a fish or two! They are currently reading about fishes, amphibians and reptiles - vertebrates! 7th graders are getting close to finishing their chapter on volcanoes. Try making one at home with your student, or some lava instead!? 6th graders will enjoy a couple days outside as they have Matchbox car races, practice calculating speed, and continue to learn about things in motion. We also have flowers and vegetables planted in the classroom so we can watch them grow - spring seems to have sprung early this year! Blessings on your week! Tanya Hercyk Mr. Covert: We’re a week away from March! It’s amazing to think that we’ve almost knocked out three quarters of the school year. I pray that everyone had a good three day weekend and is ready to hit the ground running! We’re going to keep right on moving in every class. In 8th grade, we’re looking at the shift in America from a rural to urban society in the early 1900s, as well as performing a classroom simulation regarding immigration during this time period. 7th grade is finishing up Southeast Asia, and will move onto South Asia this week. In 6th grade, we’re going to take a quick look at the founding of Islam, which will help set the stage for Medieval Europe and the Crusades. 7th grade parents, I’ve heard from a few families, but I need to start getting ballpark figures for the DC trip from each family so I can give them to the travel agent. The trip will be, barring a major upheaval, Monday, September 25, through Saturday, September 30. I’m going to need to know how many people are going for each family by the start of March, so please let me know as soon as you can! When we have our meeting in April I’ll explain how I’ll collect all the information I need for our tours. I pray that God continues to bless this school and church family as we continue our walk in Him. Blessings on your week!
