If you choose to pay at the door, please still give us a call so that we know how many to expect. (We don’t actually have tickets; we will have a list of lunches reserved/purchased in the cafeteria on Grandparents’ Day to check them off as they go through the line.) THANKSGIVING DAYCARE: We didn’t have enough kids sign up, so Daycare will be closed Wednesday, November 22-Friday, November 24 for Thanksgiving. Daycare will be open on Tuesday, November 21. If you know you are going to use this service, please let Ms. Heidi know in daycare so that we can plan for staff and lunches. Thank you! GRANDPARENTS’ DAY is for students in the 3-year old through 8th Grade classes. It is a day set aside each year to honor and celebrate our grandparents! SCRIP/GIFT CARDS: As your thoughts begin to turn towards Christmas shopping, remember that gift cards are available in the school office. Businesses sell them to the school at a reduced cost, we sell them at face value, and we keep the difference as a fundraiser. We have a limited supply on hand, but over 700 gift cards are available for order. To see a list of what is available, visit www.shopwithscrip.com, click on the dropdown box in the upper right, and click on retailers. We will be placing an order at the end of the month to have cards available at the beginning of December; come by the office soon to place your order. COLLECTING PONCA CITY SANTA BUCKS: First Lutheran is collecting the Santa Shops Ponca 1st tickets that are given out at participating local businesses each time you make a purchase during the Christmas season. If you are willing to donate yours to the school, please drop them by the school on or before December 19; the earlier the better so that we can get them organized for the big night. T-SHIRT SALES: We have a few of the gray 2017/2018 t-shirts leftover for sale in the office; they are $12 each. Sizes available are Youth Medium, Adult Small, and Adult XL. "Whoever drinks beer, he is quick to sleep; whoever sleeps long, does not sin; whoever does not sin, enters Heaven! Thus, let us drink beer!" - Martin Luther PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Luther was a character and a German. He has a lot of interesting quotes. Some even too vulgar to repeat. He was definitely human. Happy 534th Birthday (11/10/1483) PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Herard: Only a few more days until Grandparents Day! We are getting so excited! Look for a reminder in backpacks if you are bringing a casserole for Monday. The TWT class may come at regular school time if they would like or be in the classroom by 9 so that we can go over together. Grandparents will meet us in the fellowship hall at 9:30. We will be finished around 10:30. Grandparents may take the children to the book fair or leave at that time (if the form was signed to do so). Others will be sent to lunch or home with parents. Remember, no school for PS the rest of the week! Our theme this week is "Thanksgiving". I am so proud of our little learners! They have made tremendous progress since the first of school and I am so blessed to share this journey with them! Have a blessed week! Please make sure that planners are signed every night. Mid Terms come home today. Please have them signed and returned Friday after discussing them with students. Keep reading for AR & BOOK IT! Some are doing great and are close to making their goals; some need some good reading time to catch up. Continue to think of the things that that God has richly blessed us with, in this season. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: There is excitement in the air as we prepare for Grandparent's Day and Thanksgiving. It's such a special time of the year! And it's fun to share it with children. Their joy is contagious! Please see my FD Bulletin Board for tests and special things going on this week. Remember...tomorrow is our field trip to Tonkawa to see the play "Godspell". We're really looking forward to that! Thank you to all drivers. We appreciate you! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Enjoy time with your precious children, family and friends. Your children are a blessing in my life this year. Thank you for sharing them with me.
MIDDLE SCHOOL FLC&S YOUTH, 6TH GRADE – High School: The youth group will be selling handmade ornaments, candy, blankets, books, jewelry, and other art and craft items at the Christmas Market. The Market is less than a month away, so we have some afternoons scheduled to work on projects. The Youth House will be open from 3:00-6:30 Nov. 14th-16th. This will also be our focus for our next Sunday night meeting on Nov. 19th. All materials will be provided along with volunteers to help with each project. Sixth grade through high school youth are welcome; bring your parents and friends! All proceeds will benefit First Lutheran's youth group. Mrs. Harbeson: Hello Everyone! I hope you all are doing well and are having a fabulous week! We are getting close to two of my favorite days . . . Grandparents' Day and Thanksgiving! Grandparents' Day at First Lutheran is such a special day! We will be meeting grandparents on Tuesday, November 21, at 9:00 in the school gym. After the assembly, students will accompany their grandparents to classrooms, chapel, the book fair, and to lunch. School will be dismissed for Thanksgiving Break early that day. Before we get to next week, however, we have a fun day planned for this week. On Thursday, November 16, the middle school students will be attending the presentation Godspell in Tonkawa. Thank you to those parents who have volunteered to accompany us! YOU make these special events possible! Something else coming up this week is mid-quarter reports. Wednesday marks the mid-point of the second quarter. If your student has any grades less than a 70% in any class, you will be notified. We want this "check-in" to make students and parents aware that students have 4½ weeks to bring up their grades before report cards come out. After-school tutoring is every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-4:30 in my room. Students may come on their own or may be asked by a teacher to attend. Reasons for mandatory tutoring would include overall grades below 70%, missing work, and/or repeated late work. We truly want to help all students succeed, so please know that this is one way to get that extra help that we all need sometimes! Please check my webpage (harbolanguage.blogspot.com) to see what's going on in language. Blessings on your week! Mrs. Hanson: FUNDRAISERS!! 7th graders are selling Woodwick candles just in time for Christmas! These are amazing candles, wonderful scents, and awesome crackling wicks that just make the holidays. Find a 7th grader to order yours today! CHRISTMAS WREATHS!!! Decorate your home with the sights and smells of the season with a beautiful wreath. class time is not used wisely. I will be closely monitoring progress and if I feel the projects will not be done well by Friday, I will of course extend the due date. Mrs. Pacey: Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone has a safe and happy break. Mr. Covert: We’re already at the middle of the second quarter! I hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy. We’re going to do our best to wrap up things before we hit break next week. 8th grade is working on the North and South prior to the Civil War, so we can jump in with that when we return. 7th grade is going through East and Southeastern Asia this week. In 6th grade, we’re finishing up the Greeks so we can move over to the histories of Asia when we get back. I pray that God continues to bless our school family as we work through this month and get to Thanksgiving. Blessings on your week!
