And now, it’s time for the CARDINAL SHOUTOUT; a place for us to recognize how talented and diversified our students are! CONGRATULATIONS TO:

Thanks to Faith Sroufe, Caylee Hurd, Adam King, Kelby Grimes, Jordyn Heitman, Rachel Lawson, Lauren King, Kinley Brown, Cailyn Olechnowicz, Alyssa Dooley, London Barnard, and Trie Barnard for singing in Church last Sunday. OKLAHOMA TEACHER WALKOUT: First Lutheran School will NOT be participating with the possible teacher walk out. If you would like more information on the walkout, you can find a Q&A sheet and a copy of the letter from Shelley Arrott, Superintendent, Ponca City Public Schools: on their website at www.pcps.us, on our FastDirect login page at www.fastdir.com/flcspc and click “links” on the left-hand side before you login, and/or a copy of both documents is also available in the First Lutheran school office. DAYCARE- Ms. Heidi - School will be dismissed at 11:20 this Thursday, March 29th. If your child will be coming to daycare after school that day, please sign them up in the entry way of daycare. We need a head count of who needs a school lunch that day. ITBS TESTING will take place the mornings of April 9-13 for grades 2-8. Please make an extra effort to have the kids to school on time this week, and avoid any doctor/dentist/etc. appointments during the morning hours. It is a tremendous distraction to your student, as well as the other students in the class, to have a student pulled out during the middle of a test. MIDDLE SCHOOL MUSICAL: We are excited to present the First Lutheran Middle School's performance of A Not So Terrible Parable. The performances will be next Friday, April 6th, at 9AM and 6:30PM. The students have been working hard to finish setting up the stage, making props, and learning lines and lyrics to the songs. We hope to see you all there! SUMMER DAYCARE PACKETS are now available in Ms. Heidi’s office, and a few are available in the school office. IF YOU NEED SUMMER DAYCARE FOR YOUR STUDENTS, SIGN UP QUICKLY…WE FILL UP FAST! SPRING PICTURE PACKETS: Spring picture packets have been sent home in backpacks. You can purchase pictures by taking out the sheets you want, fill out the form, and enclose your check (WITH TAX INCLUDED) made out to Lifetouch, and return the unpurchased pictures and your payment to your child’s teacher by Tuesday, April 3. Additionally, there is a small sheet for you to keep, with an i.d. code specific to your child’s photo’s. You can go online and use this code to order specific size pictures and packages. Remember…turn in your payment and any unpurchased pictures to your child’s teacher by Tuesday, April 3. Class photo’s should be here and handed out soon to those who ordered them. -- 1 --

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast. The FLS student council is on a mission to raise funds for a very important person . . . our very own Miss Connie! SUMMER SKILLS WORKBOOKS: Studies show that much of what is learned during the school year is lost over the summer months. Summer Skills Review Books provide students with a review of materials taught the previous year, and can give them an academic edge and self-confidence when they return to school in the fall. Workbooks available include math and language arts for students in grades 2-5, or pre-algebra, algebra 1, geometry, or high school math books. If you would like to see an example, or would like to order a workbook(s), stop by the school office or visit the website www.summerskills.com. They are $20, and orders are due to the school office by May 1. Please keep her in your prayers as she transitions back into the classroom and adjusts to working with the new baby at home. -Mrs. Heitman -- 3 --

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: What a wonderful and relaxing spring break we all had! We took time to unwind, recoup, and prepare for the final quarter of the year. We will have new AR goals finalized soon. Help the kids to stay on top of their new goal by reading chapter books daily. We all want to finish the year out strong, & to do our best to work on being fifth graders. Scholars need to make sure that they are being thorough in all work. Please look at grades with students on a weekly basis to help students do their best. This is the shortest quarter of the year. Time will fly away. ITBS Testing is coming up very soon. Please help the kids to be ready and prepared for this week. We are preparing prior in the classroom so that we may give our best. Blessings as we focus on Christ’s love for us! FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: It is wonderful to be back after a relaxing, refreshing spring break. Now we begin the downhill slide of this year. I will explain guidelines for the oral country reports on Thursday. I had planned to do that on Monday, but four students were absent. We are still missing two today. I will assign a book to read and give a rubric for the book report on this book next week. Blessings on your Easter weekend. I hope all my students and their families attend church on this joyous day. We are so blessed to have a Savior that loved us enough to live as a lowly human and die an awful death so that we have a home in heaven. It is so important to me that each of my students knows Jesus as their Savior, Lord and friend.

That's probably enough for now...be sure to mark your calendar! In language class, all classes have begun their novels for 4th quarter. We have also begun grammar, spelling and vocabulary. I hope you all have a very blessed Easter weekend! Mrs. Hanson: I pray everyone had a restful or fun or both Spring Break! I know I did. The school auction is coming up; each class creates projects to auction off. 7th graders have started a project and will need financial assistance with finishing it, details TBA. 7th graders will also have an opportunity to raise money for D.C. by helping with the dessert and drink table. I will put out a sign up sheet and ask for donations next week. As for classes, this week, all classes will be having fun with Easter science. Monday we studied the egg. Ask your student what is so special about the egg and its relation to Easter. A few weeks ago, the middle school participated in a challenge. We all decided to abandon disposable straws for 7 days because of their harmful effects on the environment. This inspired us to find other challenges or causes. Each student has been asked to find a cause to support that they have a personal passion or connection to. We will discuss these as classes at the end of the week and next week. Mrs. Pacey: I hope everyone enjoyed their Spring Break! We have two short weeks in a row, so everything will be a little more stretched out than normal. Algebra is working on Production Profit, a unit about how Algebra is used in the oil and natural gas industry. PreAlgebra is working on proportional relationships. 7th is working on solving equations, and 6th is working on ratios and rates. Mr. Covert: We’ve almost reached Easter! I hope that everyone had a restful spring break, and is about ready for that stretch run of the school year! Classes this week are starting where we left off. 8th grade is starting a unit on World War I, both prior to and following the US involvement. 7th grade is moving onto the northern countries in South America. As far as 6th grade, we’ve moved into the Reformation and the birth of Protestantism. I pray that God continues to bless our church family as we move through Holy Week and into Easter! Blessings on your week!
