Board of Parochial Education Dear First Lutheran School parents, I'm Tim Burden, President of the Board of Parochial Education (or school board) at First Lutheran Church and School. This is a reminder and inform that the school board meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm in the school library in the admin building. If you have anything to share with us or need to bring to our attention to help improve our school, you are welcome to attend any school board meetings. Simply contact me, any school board member, or Principal Birnbaum ahead of time (preferably by Thursday the week before), and you can be put on the agenda. FastDirect is one way to get a hold of me and several of the school board members. The first 15-30 minutes of each meeting is set aside for parents or others to present their topic in front of the board. The school board consists of Ryan Burkett, Jason Heitman, Kendra Mayer, Katie Schelp, Rhonda Stolhand, and me. As a reminder, we ask that you follow Jesus’ teachings in Matthew 18:15-20 in your approach: "If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses. If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector. Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." God's richest blessings, Tim Burden President, Board of Parochial Education YEARBOOK: The deadline for ordering the 2016/2017 Yearbook at the reduced price of $20 is this Friday, March 31. After that date, the price will increase to $25 per book. Forms were attached to last weeks’ Chatter, and are available in the school office.

Summer Skills Review Books provide students with a review of materials taught the previous year, and can give them an academic edge and self-confidence when they return to school in the fall. Workbooks available include math and language arts for students in grades PK-7th, pre-algebra, algebra 1, geometry, and high school math books. If you would like to see an example, or would like to order a workbook(s), stop by the school office or visit the website www.summerskills.com. They are $22 each, and orders are due to the school office by May 8. EARLY CHILDHOOD EMPLOYMENT - We considering our options. New book orders will be going home soon. Let the office know if you are having trouble logging into Fast Direct to see student grades. We are already working on earning our AR goals for fourth quarter. I have seen many diligent students reading during every spare moment they have. DANCE! The student council members are busy planning our next dance! The Spring Dance will be Friday, April 7, from 6:00-9:30. Our theme is "Let's Celebrate Summer!" More information will be included in next week's Chatter. Be sure to mark your calendars! ********************************************** Mrs. Harbeson: Greetings, Everyone! What a trip! We had so much fun in Valparaiso, Indiana. Our varsity boys played like champs, and it was so great to see and hear that you all were cheering us on 800 miles away! Thank you for prayers and support. We truly appreciated it! I also want to thank Coach Killscrow, Coach Cain, and Coach Amanda for all their hard work, organization, and dedication to our program. Without out all of you, our boys couldn't have gotten all the way to Nationals! Next week is ITBS week. The very best thing to prepare for your tests is to get good sleep, to eat a healthy breakfast, and to not worry! Please, please be on time next week for testing. I will begin promptly at 8:30 every morning. If you arrive after that, you'll need to go to the office until testing is over that morning. You will need to make up your tests later in the day. 3

I also hope you have Friday, April 7, on your calendar for the Spring Dance. The dance will be from 6:30-9:00. Dress is casual. That's all for now! Blessings on the rest of your week! Mrs. Pacey: This Friday we have the talent show. I am very excited to see all of the acts! I had the opportunity to go to a workshop and got a class set of calculators and a document camera. We enjoyed trying out the document cam for the first time during classes Tuesday. Remember ITBS testing is next week. Get lots of sleep and eat a good breakfast before school. Mrs. Hanson: One week in and it has been awesome! Thanks to all for making my first week back awesome! I am expecting all following weeks to be the same. All grades have started a new chapter. 8th grade is studying genetics, 7th grade is studying the earth's atmosphere, and 6th is studying work and power. Ask your 6th grader if you, the parent, work ;) Plans for the track concession are on hold for the time being. Mr. Covert: It’s almost April! I can’t believe how fast this school year is going. It also looks like we’ve finally left winter behind us, and we can start enjoying spring. Now that we have a full week under our belts after Spring break, everyone is back in the swing of things in class. 8th grade is looking at America’s emergence from our isolationist period, and the hand we had in shaping Latin America and the Pacific in the early 1900s. In 7th grade, we’re wrapping up Central Asia, and then we’re going to take a break from Asia and jump around the world to South America for a while before we handle Southwest Asia. 6th grade finished up the medieval period, and now we’re moving into the Renaissance, that transition from the Dark Ages to the modern era. 7th grade parents, just another reminder, our DC meeting is April 4th at 5:30 PM, in the social studies classroom. I’ve been in touch with a travel agent and they just need to get an airline before they can give us a total, so we should have that before the meeting. I pray that God continues to bless this school family as we move through this Lenten season, on our journey with Jesus to the cross, and eventually, the empty tomb. Blessings on your week!

Next Week, April 3-7, is ITBS Testing Week for Grades 2-8 in the mornings! What can you do to help your student be ready for testing? I’m glad you asked!  Make sure your student has a healthy breakfast! It’s hard to do your best thinking when your tummy is growling! Remember, we offer nutritious breakfasts in the cafeteria each morning between 7:45 – 8:05 a.m. for $2.00.  Please avoid any doctor/dentist/etc. appointments during the morning hours. It is a tremendous distraction to your student, as well as the others in the class, to have students pulled out during the middle of a test.  Testing typically starts at 8:30 a.m. sharp, so please be sure your student is on time. A tardy student is a distraction to a whole class of testing students; a great way to avoid this, would be to be on time! As a reminder, classroom doors open at 8:10 a.m. each morning, and school begins/attendance is taken at 8:20 a.m. Long story short: eat a healthy breakfast, be on time, and don’t check out early! Thanks for your cooperation!
