ALL EARLY CHILDHOOD: Due to the water line repairs near our school, the water may be affected at some point. Please send a (filled) water bottle with your child's name on it while repairs are ongoing. At times when the parking area on the north side is inaccessible, remember that you may park in the grass lot on the southwest corner of 4th and Liberty (directly south of the early childhood building). "The life of a Christian is a life of repentance." - Martin Luther PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Time is flying and we are constantly messing up. Please forgive us when we make mistakes, help us improve, and keep praying for us. PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Herard: Please remember jackets every day! I prefer to take the children outside for recess than be in the gym. We need fresh air and more exercise! SHOW and TELL tomorrow! Our school talent show is the 15th -- 2 --
at 6:30. P/T Conferences will be on March 16th. We will be having an Easter party April 4th and a field trip to the Wondertorium on April 23rd (details will be sent home soon). This week our theme is "Spring" and our letter is "Y". Blessings! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly/Mrs. Colvin: Our prayers go to Mrs. Kelly, for fast recovery from the Flu. We miss you! KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Please look for a special note on our Easter Egg Hunt in your child's backpack today. We will be going to the Renaissance Assisted Living Center on April 4th for an egg hunt and we will need drivers. Our kindergarten class would like to wish Johnathan (3-3) and Kaylynn (3-7) a happy birthday! Have a wonderful week! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory for Friday is the 3rd Commandment - Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Chapel families have been working together to get ready to our Winter Olympics which will be held during Lutheran Schools Week. Ask your child what country their family is representing. Please make sure that your child wears/brings a jacket to school. Mornings are usually chilly and we do go outside for morning recess. Have a great week! SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Happy March! We've enjoyed working with our Chapel families preparing for the Olympics next week. Lutheran Schools week is always such fun! We will be writing several spelling words in cursive this week. See your child's planner to see which ones to practice writing as well as spelling. We will say the 10th Commandment and meaning this Friday. Please help your child at home. Several children missed their first recess because they didn't know their memory work. Check with your child to be sure they can recite their memory work before dropping them off at school. Thanks. The children have earned many AR points and I am very proud of them. Let me know if you have questions or concerns. Blessings! THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Heitman (Steichen): This week: Spelling: Unit 4 Week 5. We will have a test this Friday. Reading: We finished "How To Eat Fried Worms" last week and watched the movie! This week we will be working out of our reading books again. Our story will be "Fly Eagle Fly". We will have a test on Friday. A.R. Please encourage your child to read! We have less than two weeks left in this quarter! Book Reports: Book reports are due NEXT MONDAY, March 12. Please be working on these at home. Math: Test this Friday. Memory: Apostle's Creed - The Third Article. Happy Birthday to Halleigh and Alexander! Next week is Lutheran Schools Week... be sure to watch for updates regarding activities throughout the week! FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Welcome to March! Our Invention Conventions are all due 03 12 18 for in-class presentations. Thank you for the hard work on this fun project. I can’t wait to see our ideas and our models of our problem solving. Lutheran Schools Week is next week. Don’t forget to set clocks back this weekend. Blessings as we recharge, finish out this quarter and be ready for the fourth quarter! Books orders are due by 03/15/18. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: Everyone had their country report rough drafts turned in Friday, which was a good thing. :) There were some corrections that need to be made; mostly some students need to get another source. My directions were that there had to be at least two different sources used, not just the internet. The students need to learn how to use the library to research for material for a report. A trip to our public library is a good way to become familiar with what the library has to offer. Parents, please proofread your child's final draft. Help correct any spelling mistakes or errors in general. This report is a large part of the social studies grade for third quarter. The next week and a half will be unusual with special activities for Lutheran School's Week. Therefore, after Friday, next week will hold no regular reading or spelling unit, which means no tests in those two subjects. Everyone is looking forward to Spring Break, understandably! I want each student to finish strong. Doing the very best possible these last few days can still improve a grade, especially if the grade is at that "teetering" point. With concentrated effort grades can still be raised. We're having lots of fun working on our "Olympic" projects. Mrs. Hanson and Ms. Pacey are doing a fine job making this happen. We cheer on our Academic Bowl students representing us this Friday: John, Rachel, Landon, Baylee, Brynn and Pierce. We know you will represent us well. Blessings!

FLC&S YOUTH GROUP FLASHLIGHT EGG HUNT! – Becky May: The Youth Group will be having an Easter egg hunt by flashlight Sat. evening, Mar. 31st. We'll meet in the youth house at 6:30 for snacks and opening devotions. The hunt will begin around 7:00 or as soon as it's dark. If the weather holds, it will be outside, behind the school; if not we'll have it indoors in the church/narthex building (also in the dark :). This event is for sixth grade through high school, so grab a flashlight or two and a friend, and we'll see you there! We are anticipating a large turnout; you can help make it a huge success by donating plastic eggs and candy to fill them. Please leave your donations in the box marked "egg hunt" in the narthex. If you would like to volunteer to help us hide eggs, we would appreciate that, too! Thanks for caring about and supporting our youth! Thanks, Becky
TRACK – COACH AMANDA: We are looking for someone to volunteer to coach our middle school track team. If you have an interest and/or experience in field and track, we would like to talk to you! HiSteppers – Ms. Smith - 8th Grade girls--Po HI-Stepper tryouts--there will be an informational parent meeting on March 13th at 5:30 pm in the Howell Auditorium. Please bring a parent with you. Tryout clinic starts Monday, March 26 and runs through Tuesday, April 3rd from 5:30-6:30. Tryouts are Wed, April 4th at 4:00 pm in the Robson Fieldhouse. Mrs. Harbeson: Happy National Lutheran Schools' Week! Thank you, Ms. Pacey and Mrs. Hanson, for organizing and creating our Lutheran Olympics! Y'all are the best! Look in this week's Chatter to see how we are celebrating each day next week. There's also an opportunity to score some awesome, new First Lutheran School t-shirts. Check out the student council article at the front of the Chatter and order your shirts! All money raised will benefit Mrs. Connie to help her with her medical expenses. It's getting close! Just 1 1/2 weeks until we break for Spring Break!! I know the kids are ready (and I know a few teachers who might be ready, too!) Before we leave, however, we have a few more assignments to complete at school. I want to encourage all of the students to keep working hard . . . all the way to the end! In language class, all classes will have one more set of spelling and vocabulary tests on lesson 13 in Wordly Wise. All classes are also finishing up their novels and will be taking the AR tests on those before we break. Folders, as always, will be graded the Thursday before we leave. If for some reason you will be leaving early for Spring Break, you must take all tests and hand in your folder before you leave. (I have reminded the students of this multiple times over the past two weeks.) That's all I have for now. Blessings on your week! Mrs. Hanson: School Olympics start next week! We will be bobsledding, ski jumping, curling, and speed skating for a chance to win GOLD with our chapel families! Next week we will be dressing up every day to celebrate Lutheran schools, too. Monday- Color Day Thursday- Throwback Thursday Tuesday- Talent Tuesday Friday- Free Choice Wednesday- School Spirit For each of these spirit days, chapel families will be deciding the specifics for each day. Families will all dress to match and the best dressed families earn points toward gold, silver, or bronze. Happy Birthday Jill and Kylie 3/9 Mrs. Pacey: We are only a week and a half from spring break! Next week is Lutheran Schools Week, and we will be competing in our FLS Winter Olympics. We will be competing as chapel families in various events and dressing up each day. Because this is a special week full of a little bit of craziness, we will be working on math projects in every class. These are worth a test grade and classwork grades during the week. The information for each class's project will be going out Thursday or Friday of this week. Algebra will be working on a project having to do with the oil and natural gas industry. Pre-Algebra has two mini projects, one with carnival games and one with buying a car. Course 2's project will be creating a poster and examples for solving equations. Course 1 has a statistics project, and they will be gathering information and choosing the best way to display the information. Let’s make it another fantastic week! Mr. Covert: We’re getting closer to spring! I hope everyone is staying healthy as the weather has its crazy swings. -- 4 --
Classes are continuing right on along. In 8th grade, we’re wrapping up the Progressive Era, and then we’re moving into America taking a bigger role in world affairs leading up to the first World War. 7th grade is heading back our way to start going over South America, starting with Brazil specifically. In 6th grade, we’ve still got a good amount of the Middle Ages to get through, and we’re steadily getting through it. 7th grade parents, we will be having a DC meeting in the first full week of April. I don’t have a date set yet, but stayed tuned; I’ll announce it in the Chatter as soon as I do! I pray that God continues to richly bless our school family as we continue on through this Lenten season and remember all that Christ did for us during His time here among us. Blessings on your week!
