And now, it’s time for the CARDINAL SHOUTOUT; a place for us to recognize how talented and diversified our students are! CONGRATULATIONS TO: Jill Jackson, Janie Heitman, Gabby Costello, and Mallory Blackstar for making the PoHi-Steppers. Raecyn Fisher is hilarious. He can always make us laugh and lighten the mood. Ryleigh Rowe always does what’s expected and what is asked of her. Drew Zimmerman shows goodness in the classroom. He pays attention and does his work quietly. He is kind and respectful to his teacher and his classmates. Elle Turner is an energetic 1st grader and shares her joy in the classroom. She has become responsible and is diligent in her work. She is also helpful in the classroom to her teacher and her friends. Tripp Johnson is very talented at drawing. He is showing kindness and caring in the classroom. He is also doing a great job with his reading. Gavin Terrell is an eager learner. He loves to learn new facts and gain knowledge from reading books. He shares insightful information with the class. Kaden Swords spends his free time practicing and performing plays at the Poncan, so go check out his next performance! Here at school he’s always hanging out with his friends and is always ready with a joke. Ashton Ward spent the first two quarters on the junior high wrestling team. At school, Ashton is always courteous and friendly with others, and it’s rare to find him in a bad mood. AND…a shout out to the Middle School Students and teachers, especially Ms. Pacey and Katie/Chris Schelp for the marvelous musical last Friday. Welcome aboard! - Jennifer Heitman will be joining our staff for the new school year as the 4 year old's teacher with Mrs. Kelly. Mrs. Melissa Colvin will teach our full-day 3 year old class and Mrs. Karen Herard will continue to serve our half-day 3 year olds. Ms. Michelle will continue to open in the mornings and tag team with Ms. Allison in our 1 year olds. We praise God for the continued strengthening and growth of our Early Childhood program. THE FUNDRAISING AUCTION is THIS SATURDAY!—do you have something you can donate to the auction? Some auction items that have been donated so far are: A Snap-On combination wrench set and socket set, Rustic Cuff bracelets, a home-made quilt with Mrs. Goll’s autographed quilt square, 2 Sun-n-Fun Season Passes, bath bombs and beauty basket, sunglasses basket, massage gift card, and so much more! Please give some thought to what you could donate, and call or email the office with the details. The silent auction will begin at 5:00 and run until 6:30 in the gym. SUMMER DAYCARE PACKETS are available in Ms. Heidi’s office, and a few are available in the school office. IF YOU NEED SUMMER DAYCARE FOR YOUR STUDENTS, SIGN UP QUICKLY…WE FILL UP FAST! SPRING PICTURE PACKETS: If you still have your pictures and haven’t paid for them, they are past due. Payments and/or unpurchased pictures need to be turned in as soon as possible to your child’s homeroom teacher and/or the office. Class photo’s are being printed and should be here and handed out soon to those who ordered them. OKLAHOMA TEACHER WALKOUT: First Lutheran School is NOT participating with the teacher walk out. SUMMER SKILLS WORKBOOKS: Studies show that much of what is learned during the school year is lost over the summer months. Summer Skills Review Books provide students with a review of materials taught the previous year, and can give them an academic edge and self-confidence when they return to school in the fall. Workbooks available include math and language arts for students in grades 2-5, or pre-algebra, algebra 1, geometry, or high school math books. If you would like to see an example, or would like to order a workbook(s), stop by the school office or visit the website www.summerskills.com. They are $20, and orders are due to the school office by May 1. SCHOOL OFFICE—TAX STATEMENTS: If you would like a printout of your payments to First Lutheran during 2017 for tax purposes, you can print them off by logging into your FastDirect account, click on the “finances” button on the top, click on “tax report” on the left-hand side, then choose the year you want and click on “Tax Year Printout”. Not all payments to FLS are tax deductible, and you should contact a tax advisor to find out what can be written off, and what cannot. Knowing this gives me peace in the crazy, scary world in which we live. I want to thank all those who are working so hard on this year's auction. I pray that God will bless you as much as you have blessed us. ECE – Daycare – Ms. Heidi: Summer Daycare enrollment is open and underway. Stop by daycare or the school office to get yours. We will fill up fast. PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Herard: We are only weeks away from being PK students! We will visit the PK classes before the end of school to meet the teachers and see what the classrooms are like. Some of the students are having a hard time thinking of moving up from PS so I hope this will get them excited. Wondertorium field trip permission forms and money are due today. The School auction is this Saturday. Let's pray for good weather and lots of people there. It's a wonderful evening of fun and fellowship for a good cause. Hope to see you there! SHOW and TELL is THURSDAY! This week our theme is "Plants/Flowers". Have a blessed week! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly/Mrs. Colvin: Happy Birthday Colston and Jenna! Wondertorium permission slip and money were due today. Please return those tomorrow. The cost is $5.00 per person. I still have some report cards out. Please sign and return yours. Book orders are due to me or online on Friday. I hope you have made plans to attend our school auction on Saturday. You don't want to miss out on our class project. KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: We will be going to the Wondertorium Museum in Stillwater on April 23rd. The field trip note and money ($5.00) are due back April 11 (today). Our Auction is this Saturday, April 14th. The children worked hard on their project! I would like to thank all the mom's that helped! Have a great week! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory for Friday is the 6th Commandment - You shall not commit adultery. Field trip notes and forms were sent home last Wednesday for the Wondertorium. Forms and money are due today please turn in tomorrow if you have not done so yet. Our school auction is on Saturday - I hope to see you there! Blessings on your week! SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: We are sailing through achievement tests. A change in the routine makes our time fly. The hardest part is having to listen to so many instructions. There will not be a spelling test or math homework this week and we'll resume those next week. Memory work for this Friday is Matthew 28:19-20: Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. See you at the auction this Saturday evening. Book orders are due this Friday, April 13. Blessings! THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Testing week is under way!! The kids are doing amazing! We will be done by Friday, so that means Friday morning we will walk to Turtles to celebrate. Please send at least $5 with your child. Also, they may bring electronics to play in the afternoon. Memory is due this Friday: Rev. 22:20-21. Next week: Spelling as normal, we will also be starting our new chapter book. So, no reading test or paragraphs for a couple weeks. Book Reports: please be on the lookout for our next project, this one is my favorite! Have a wonderful week!! FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: We are well underway for our ITBS. Please continue to pray for the kids as they finish the testing. Continue to have the kids get plenty of sleep and eat a good breakfast before coming to school. Thank you for all of the yummy snacks for the kids this week. They loved the great variety! We are incubating over 100 eggs from a variety of farms! The kids are really EGGcited! Hatching should be around the 24th of April. Please help the kids to continue reading their AR books. Some of are doing great, on track for our 4th qtr goal; others may need more daily reading. Mid-Quarter reports come out soon! Let’s have a solid footing to end the school year right. God’s peace as we worship Jesus as he took our sin for us. -- 3 --


FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: Testing seems to be going well this week. Everyone is trying to stay focused. I appreciate the extra effort on each student's part. There are no other tests this week. Everyone should be reading the "Ben Carson" book for this quarter's book report. That report is due Friday, May 11. We look forward to the FLS Auction this Friday. I hope everyone can make it. An informative bulletin went home Monday concerning the auction. It looks like there is some great stuff to be purchased. Blessings on your week!

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHEER TRYOUTS!! All current 6th & 7th graders are encouraged to try out for our FLS cheer squad for the 20182019 school year. Cheer Clinic will be held April 23-27. Practices will be held from 3:30-4:30 in the gym. We will have mock Tryouts on Thursday and Closed Tryouts on Friday. There will be a mandatory parent meeting the week after tryouts for all new squad members (more info to come). YOUTH (6TH-HIGHSCHOOL): What beliefs unite all Christians? What do Lutheran's believe specifically? What do other denominations believe? Why do our differences matter? Please join us this Sunday, Apr. 15th in the youth house as we begin a new study/discussion exploring these questions. We'll also support each other in prayer and start "Operation: He is Risen!" Mrs. Harbeson: Hello Everyone! I hope you all are doing well. Things are really hopping here at the middle school! ITBS week is going well, and we will finish testing by Friday. The school auction is set for this Saturday, April 14. The silent auction is from 5-6:30, and there will be food trucks and live entertainment! Then, at 6:30, the live auction will begin. I hope to see you all there! Mark your calendar...the final middle school dance of the year is set for Friday, April 20. More info. will be in next week's Chatter. In language, the eighth graders are beginning their work on their college projects. We will be taking our annual OSU field trip on Thursday, April 26. Thanks to all the parents who are accompanying us. We're going to have fun! All classes are reading their new novels, working in spelling and vocabulary, and continuing in grammar. We have a lot going on, but we're having a good time. I hope you all have a great rest of your week...Blessings! Mrs. Hanson: The auction is this Saturday! 7th grade has created an awesome project. We need each 7th grader to bring $6 to contribute to the project, a 12 pack of soda, and a homemade dessert, but please do not bring the dessert until Friday as they will not be eaten till Saturday. You can sign up to work and raise money for D.C. on my website. 6th grade is studying how to describe and measure matter, 7th grade is studying faults, and 8th is exploring transcription and translation. I will be putting together a graduation video for our 8th graders. I need pictures of any and all kids from any of their years here at Lutheran. I also need one baby picture of each 8th grader. Please email them to jnellh33@gmail.com; any texted photos will not be used. You may also bring in hard copies of pictures. Mrs. Pacey: This week was Iowa testing. We just have one more day of testing to finish. I will not be at school Friday. We have not had much homework this week, but it will pick back up after testing. Algebra is finishing up their oil and natural gas activity, and will be moving on to different functions. PreAlgebra is continuing percents and proportions, and will be moving on to functions in the next chapter. 7th grade is working with solving equations, and 6th grade is solving proportions using cross products. Let's finish this year strong!

Mr. Covert: We’re into testing week! Make sure everybody is getting plenty of sleep and a good breakfast to help everyone do their best! Our classes are continuing on, getting through what we can this week. 8th grade is wrapping up World War I this week. In 7th grade, we’re starting up a chapter on the Andes mountain region, so we can finish up South America. For 6th grade, we’ve started the age of travel and exploration that really kicks off thanks to Christopher Columbus. I pray that God continues to bless our school family as we move through the Easter season! Blessings on your week!
