ENROLLMENT FOR 2015-2016 SCHOOL YEAR! Have you re-enrolled yet for next school year to hold your spot in the class? If you have not, this is the last week to get the discount on the enrollment fees; next week the enrollment fees increase by $25. If you aren’t sure if you have re-enrolled, call the office and we can check; if you need another enrollment form, there is one attached to this Chatter and more are available in the office. We are once again offering a $200 credit to a current school family account in January of next year, if you recruit a new family to our school with a student in grades 1-5, that remains enrolled through the first semester. The new family must list your name as the person who referred them to First Lutheran on their enrollment form. We are happy to say that we were able to apply that credit to 8 school families this year, for the referrals that they brought in. HELP! The school-wide track meet is this Friday! This is the day where we host a track meet not only for First Lutheran students, but also for other Lutheran Schools in Oklahoma, and we need YOUR help to pull it off! If you can help run events, write names on ribbons, assist with academic bee’s, be a runner, or any number of other odd jobs, please contact the school office ASAP to let us know! We’ll take you for all day or an hour or two; any time you have to spare we would appreciate! THANKS! TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK-PTL: Next week is Teacher’s Appreciation Week; a time we set aside to thank our teachers for all of the things they do for our kids! We ask that you bring a small gift to your teachers each day of the week, and our theme for each day is as follows: Monday is books or supplies, Tuesday is flowers and a thoughtful note, Wednesday is a favorite drink, Thursday is a sweet treat, and Friday is Pamper your teacher with a gift card. Remember that there is a book on the table outside the office that lists the staff’s favorite things like drinks, gift cards, etc. END OF AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING: Our last day for after school tutoring will be Thursday, May 7. Thank you , Cora Watts, for helping us with tutoring this year. SCHOLARSHIP REQUESTS: If you have picked up a form to apply for a Scholarship, they are due to the office no later than Friday, May 15. Remember that scholarship funding is limited to donations that have been received, and is, therefore, limited. GOLF WRAP-UP: Praise God for the amazing success at the first ever Cardinal Classic at Wentz on Saturday. We had a total of 57 players; this includes the three players that joined us at the course! This was a major success because of you – the players, the sponsors, and your dedication to the school and its continual

growth. We raised over $5,000.00! Just think of all of the computers and technology equipment that we be able will purchase for the school! Look for more information when the next Cardinal Classic is going to be! CARDINAL CARDS CONTEST!: The PTL is having a contest to see which class can buy the most gift cards from our Cardinal Cards in the office. (Cardinal Cards are gift cards that merchants sell to the PTL at a discounted price. The PTL sells the cards at face value, and they get to keep the profit and use it to sponsor projects around the school.) The contest starts today and ends on May 6. Whichever class purchases the most (face value) Cardinal Cards will win an ice cream party. To participate in the contest, stop by the school office and purchase gift cards, and be sure to let Mrs. Erickson know which class your student is in. We have cards for everyday things like WalMart, JCPenney, and Pizza Hut (you know you’re going there, anyway…) to weekend road trips like Logan’s Steakhouse, Old Navy, and Bass Pro Shops (you’ll have a reason to go there!). Thanks for supporting our PTL! PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: Mrs. Hamre has adventured into teaching part-time online courses this quarter and is considering doing it full time next year. We will miss her amazing skills and passion. If you or someone you know would be interested in a part-time position of working with children in the library for one or two days a week, please obtain an employment application in the school office. CONTROLLED BURN--The FLCS property committee plans to stage a burn of the remaining brush on the SW property on THIS Saturday May 2 and needs volunteers to attend the fire. The burn permit we have from the PC fire department specifies that the fire will be attended. Volunteers are needed for two-hour shifts and will only need to bring a hard rake and shovel to help tend the fire. Contact Doug Fjare at 304-7071 to sign up. SUMMER DAYCARE: We are now taking sign-ups for summer daycare; stop by daycare or the school office to pick up your application! Summer Daycare fills up quickly, so if you are interested, be sure to sign up early. The deposit is $200 for the first child and $100 for each additional child. AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY RELAY FOR LIFE: will be on Saturday, May 16 beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the Ambucs Motocross Track. As part of our reaching out to the community during FLC&S’s 90th year, we will be participating in this event. You can help us, and support the American Cancer Society, by purchasing footprints in the school office for $1 each. You write your name (or the name of a loved one) on the footprint, and we will display them around the school. You can also dedicate a luminary in honor of someone who has survived cancer, or in memory of someone who lost their fight. The luminaria cost $5 each, will be lit the night of the relay, and remain lit throughout the night as a reminder. To purchase a luminary, please contact the school office. The proceeds from the Relay for Life sales will go to the American Cancer Society. HELP NEEDED AT RELAY FOR LIFE: We need families to help sell walking taco’s from 3:00 – 9:00 (or later, depending on sales; we need 2 people per shift, please call or stop by the office to sign up. SUMMER SKILLS WORKBOOKS ORDERS DUE THIS WEEK: Studies show that much of what is learned during the school year is lost over the summer months. Summer Skills Review Books provide students with a review of materials taught the previous year, and can give them an academic edge and self-confidence when they return to school in the fall. Workbooks available include math and language arts for students in grades 2-5, or pre-

algebra, algebra 1, geometry, or high school math books. I am very sorry for us not experiencing the chickens past the point that we got. We learned a lot in the experiences that we had. Cardinal bucks continue to be earned. Ask the kids how they are earning them. Our classroom auction will happen the last week of school, so please continue to be on the hunt for treasures at the store. Mrs. Harbeson: Greetings! I hope you all are doing well. We surely have a lot going on at school! Our First Lutheran School golf tournament was a big hit! All in all, everyone had fun, and we were able to raise a significant amount of money towards our purchase of some much needed computers. Thank you to everyone who participated! Check out this week's Cardinal Chatter to see the final amount that was raised! This Friday is our annual track meet. Our 7th graders will be running the concession stand to raise funds for their Washington D.C. trips. If you can, make plans to buy your lunch at the track meet and support our 7th graders. Students, please keep up with your assignments in all your classes! We have a few students who think that school is out for the summer, and that couldn't be farther from the truth! Keep running the race and fighting the fight and finish your year with your best effort! Blessings! Mrs. Hanson: The 7th grade is in charge of the concession stand THIS FRIDAY!! If you would like to work to raise money for DC, please sign up on my website. Girls still need to bring water, and boys still need to bring gatorade please. 6th grade will test this Thursday over work and machines. 7th grade will quiz over parts of weather, and 8th grade will be starting a new chapter. I was really pleased with the products of the genetics projects. We have some master geneticists now. Cheer parent meeting is TONIGHT, Wednesday, at 5:30 pm and is mandatory. Last year’s cheerleaders, not returning, will need to bring clean uniforms and poms by the end of the week. Mr. Covert: We’re getting in as much as we can in each class. In 8th grade, we’ve started World War I and are looking at the causes of the war itself, and what brought the US into it. In 7th grade, we finished up Japan and are looking at the Pacific Islands, Australia, New Zealand, Oceania, and Antarctica. 6th grade has started the Middle Ages, as we examine the feudal governing system, castles, and knights. 7th grade parents, I made a typo in last week’s Chatter and I sent out a message the next day. The meeting for the DC trip is NOT on May 10. It’s on Monday, May 11th, still at 6 PM. I apologize for that mistake. I hope to see you then as we discuss the logistics and cost of the trip. God’s blessings on all of us this week! Mrs. Goll: It’s test week again for 7th grade and pre-algebra (over solids and formulas for volume and surface area). Sixth graders and Algebra students should be ready for a test by the end of next week. Sixth graders will test

over geometry and Algebra students over rational equations and functions. Some of our students are really struggling to stay focused and do their best to close out the year. Students, I encourage all of you to finish the year strong. We’re really looking forward to the track meet on Friday. God bless you as you continue to Seek Him First!
