Because of this, students who arrive tardy will not be admitted into the classroom until the current test is complete by the other students. MIDDLE SCHOOL MUSICAL: Middle School Musical this FRIDAY!! SUMMER SKILLS WORKBOOKS: Studies show that much of what is learned during the school year is lost over the summer months. Summer Skills Review Books provide students with a review of materials taught the previous year, and can give them an academic edge and self-confidence when they return to school in the fall. Workbooks available include math and language arts for students in grades 2-5, or pre-algebra, algebra 1, geometry, or high school math books. If you would like to see an example, or would like to order a workbook(s), stop by the school office or visit the website www.summerskills.com. They are $20, and orders are due to the school office by May 1. SCHOOL OFFICE—TAX STATEMENTS: If you would like a printout of your payments to First Lutheran during 2017 for tax purposes, you can print them off by logging into your FastDirect account, click on the “finances” button on the top, click on “tax report” on the left-hand side, then choose the year you want and click on “Tax Year Printout”. It will bring up a page to print with your payments to First Lutheran categorized and totaled, and it will have our Federal Tax I.D. number on the top. Alternatively, you can request a tax statement from the office by calling 580-762-9950 or sending a FastDirect email request to Connie Erickson. This will include school-related expenses only; summer daycare tax statements must be requested from daycare by sending a FastDirect email to Heidi Daley or calling daycare at 580-762-1124. Not all payments to FLS are tax deductible, and you should contact a tax advisor to find out what can be written off, and what cannot. Also, please send an encouraging note in an envelope for your child. I will have them on their desk next Monday morning. Have a wonderful week! FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: I hope you had a great weekend praising God as Jesus was not able to be kept by the chains of death in the grave for our sins. Welcome to our newest paragon Connor. We are all having a great time getting to know him. Yesterday we saw a great friend Lottie! What a great time we had. We received our eggs for the incubator yesterday. The kids are so excited! Chickens should hatch around the 24th of the month. Some are leading the last quarter off ready on the right foot; while others are having a having a bit of trouble getting going. Let the office know if you are having trouble logging into Fast Direct to see student grades. We are already working on earning our AR goals for fourth quarter. I have seen many diligent students reading during every spare moment they have. Please continue to look at planners nightly, ask the kids what we did in school, and their assignments. Next week we are taking the ITBS. Please pray for the kids. If you wish to bring in a snack for the class, you may, just let me know. Continue to have the kids get plenty of sleep and eat a good breakfast before coming to school. We are earning cardinal dollars for this! We are working on becoming fifth graders! FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: Happy Easter! Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia! We welcome a new student, Kaitlyn McGinnis, to our class this quarter. It is good to be back and settled in for our final quarter together. This week we have a spelling and reading test on Friday. Next week holds the Iowa Tests. MIDDLE SCHOOL MUSICAL: Middle School Musical this FRIDAY!! Dress rehearsal/school performance at 9 am and evening parent performance at 6:30 pm. All middle schoolers will be singing as a part of their religion grade and need to be in the gym by 6:15pm. It is a really cute show and the kids have been working very hard, we are excited to share this with EVERYONE! Bring yo friends! 8TH GRADE GRADUATION PORTRAITS: will be this Friday morning, following the musical. 8th Graders will have their pictures taken individually with and without a cap and gown. When the pictures come in, parents have the option of purchasing them. Please dress accordingly on Friday. Mrs. Harbeson: Christ is Risen! He is risen indeed! Hallelujah! I hope you all had a marvelous Easter weekend! I was able to spend most of my weekend with family. Now that we are back to school, we are heading towards the end of school, the finish line. We were thrilled to have Greta Hamre join us in class. She came all the way from Wisconsin! In class, we are all working on our novels and grammar. We are also gearing up for ITBS testing scheduled for next week. The very best way for YOU to prepare for testing week is to get plenty of sleep (get off those phones!) and to eat a good breakfast. You've got to rest your body and mind and keep it fueled to do well! One other thing to mention is the middle school dance. It is scheduled for Friday, April 20. Your student council representatives are working diligently to create a dance that will be memorable and fun! That's all I have for now...please continue to pray for our Oklahoma teachers, students, representatives, and other leaders as they resolve the education crisis in our state. Blessings to you all! Mrs. Hanson: 7th graders will be working at the auction selling desserts and drinks on April 14. There is a signup sheet on my website. Please only sign up for one spot as there are only 16 available and there are 16 7th grade families. We will fill any remaining spots next week, first come first served. Each 7th grader also needs to bring $6 for the class project, a 12 pack of soda or a can of lemonade or tea, and a homemade dessert. Please have these items to school by Friday, April 13. All classes will start new content this week, beginning with vocabulary and readings, then will have a vocabulary quiz Friday. We will also be preparing for testing next week. Mrs. Pacey: Happy Easter! Christ is risen! We are continuing our activities dealing with the oil and natural gas industry from last week in Algebra. PreAlgebra is continuing proportional relationships. 7th is continuing solving equations, and 6th is continuing ratios and rates. Next week is ITBS. Students, remember to get a good night’s sleep and eat breakfast. Have a great week! Mr. Covert: Alleluia, Christ is risen! I pray that everyone had a good break and is ready to get back into the swing of things! Our classes are picking up where we were prior to the break. 8th grade is picking up World War I as the United States entered the war. In 7th grade, we’re continuing our look at the northern portion of South America. 6th grade is discussing the impact of the changes made in religion during the Reformation. I pray that God continues to bless our school family as we celebrate this Easter season. Blessings on your week!

Next Week, April 9-13, is ITBS Testing Week for Grades 2-8 in the mornings! What can you do to help your student be ready for testing week? Plenty! Make sure your student has a healthy breakfast! It’s hard to do your best thinking when your tummy is growling! Remember, we offer nutritious breakfasts in the cafeteria each morning between 7:45 – 8:00 a.m. for $2.25. Testing typically starts at 8:30 a.m. sharp, so please be sure your student is on time. A tardy student is a distraction to a whole class of testing students; a great way to avoid this, is to be on time! As a reminder, classroom doors open at 8:10 a.m. each morning, and school begins/attendance is taken at 8:20 a.m. Students who arrive tardy will be admitted to their classrooms after the current test is finished. Please avoid doctor / dentist / etc. appointments during the morning hours this week. It is a tremendous distraction to your student, as well as the others in the class, to have students pulled out during the middle of a test. They should have multiple sharpened pencils with an eraser (not mechanical). It’s near the end of the year; ask your student if their pencils still have erasers and are more than an inch long? If not, it might be time to invest in a couple of new pencils! Surprise them with an encouraging note and/or nutritious snack in their backpack. Let them know you are their biggest fan!
