Have you heard? First Lutheran is sponsoring its first ever Cardinal Classic Golf Tournament. Now don't skip to the next article because you're not a golfer! Please keep reading to see how you can help! The tournament is Saturday, April 25, at Wentz Golf Course. We are hoping that this tournament will become a yearly event where
we can designate money raised to go to a particular area within the school that is needing additional funding. This year we are raising money for our technology/educational department. Below are some FAQ's... Who can play? Anyone can play - current parents or grandparents of an FLS student, FLS alumnae, church members, and so on! We actually have four of our 7th graders playing in the tournament. One of our sponsors paid for the kids to play in the tourney. (Isn't that awesome?!) A few other players, Brendon Cook and Shiv Patel (who are former FLS students and now play on the PoHi golf team) are joining their dads to make up a team and play in the tournament, as well. We still have available spots open if you'd like to make up your team and get signed up! What's the cost? The cost to play is $80 per person. This covers green fees, cart fees, lunch, mulligans, and 2 drink tickets. What if I want to play but don't have a team? Go ahead and sign up to play, and we will put you on a team. What if I don't want to play, but would like to help? If you're not a golfer but would like to donate to our fundraiser, why not consider being a hole sponsor? Your donation of $100 is tax deductible. We will make a sign with your family name or business on it and place it on a designated hole. Another perk to making your donation is that for every $100 you donate, your family name will be entered in a drawing for one student enrollment waiver for the 2015-2016 school year! I know some of you enjoy getting out and playing golf! Why not have fun and support the school? If you have any questions, please contact Megan Sibley, Krista Harbeson, or call the office. Again, the tournament date is Saturday, April 25. Please register ASAP to help us in our number count. OCC CHOIR: The choir from Oklahoma Christian College will be here performing this Friday (April 10) at 1:00 p.m. in the First Lutheran Church Sanctuary. You are welcome to join your students as we enjoy their performance! FREDDY’S NIGHT! PTL’s next night at Freddy’s will be on Thursday, April 16 from 4:00 – 10:00 p.m. All you have to do is have dinner at Freddy’s! When the cashier is ready to take your order, tell them you are there in support of First Lutheran School’s PTL program, and Freddy’s will send the PTL a check for a portion of your purchase! Tell your friends, family, neighbors, and complete strangers. It doesn’t cost them anything more than their dinner, and the PTL will use the proceeds towards improvements for the school! SUMMER DAYCARE: We are now taking sign-ups for summer daycare; stop by daycare or the school office to pick up your application! Summer Daycare fills up quickly, so if you are interested, be sure to sign up early. The deposit is $200 for the first child and $100 for each additional child. AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY RELAY FOR LIFE: will be on Saturday, May 16 beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the Ambucs Motocross Track. As part of our reaching out to the community during FLC&S’s 90th year, we will be participating in this event. You can help us, and support the American Cancer Society, by purchasing footprints in the school office for $1 each. You write your name (or the name of a loved one) on the footprint, and we will display them around the school. You can also dedicate a luminary in honor of someone who has survived cancer, or in memory of someone who lost their fight. The luminaria cost $5 each, will be lit the night of the relay, and remain lit throughout the night as a reminder. To purchase a luminary, please contact the school office. The proceeds from the Relay for Life sales will go to the American Cancer Society. SUMMER SKILLS WORKBOOKS: Studies show that much of what is learned during the school year is lost over the summer months. Summer Skills Review Books provide students with a review of materials taught the previous year, and can give them an academic edge and self-confidence when they return to school in the fall. Workbooks available include math and language arts for students in grades 2-5, or pre-algebra, algebra 1, geometry, or high school math books. If you would like to see an example, or would like to order a workbook(s), stop by the school office or visit the website www.summerskills.com. They are $18, and orders are due to the school office by May 1. KAW NATION ENGAGING COMMUNITIES EVENT: April 25, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. supported by a National Crime Victims’ Right Week Community Awareness Project. Activities include, among other things, a color run, kids activities, prize drawings, and a butterfly release. For more information, see the flyer on the bulletin board outside the school office.

Our reading challenge continues through the month of April. The box top contest ends on Wednesday April 15th. Our Bible words this week are, We believe that Jesus died and rose again. 1 Thessalonians 4:14 We are learning the letter "U" this week. Have a blessed week! KINDERGARTEN - Ms. Miller: Welcome back from Easter break! I hope everyone had a great few days off. Thank you parents for helping with our Easter party at school! The school auction (a very big deal) will be on Saturday April 11th. You can buy tickets in the school office or send the ticket money to me with the order slip (in the Cardinal Chatter). Also, we will have our field trip next week on Friday the 17th to the Wondertorium museum. Have an amazing week! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Happy Easter! Christ is risen!! Thank you parents for helping our class with the egg hunt and thank you Melissa Wilson for the cookies! Memory for Friday - 6th commandment. I am sending home book orders today - this will be our last order of the year. Orders are due by next Thursday, April 16. Thank you for bringing in your sugar or sweetener for the auction. Please bring yours in if you have not done so yet - thank you! There are still some pictures that have not been returned - please return these or send in a payment for them ASAP! Hope to see you at the Auction Saturday night! 2nd – 5th ART NEEDS ROCKS! We are wanting to make a Very Hungry Caterpillar for our school garden, but we are in need of rocks. We need smooth rocks the size of our palms. I would like every child to bring one, so that we can paint it and add it to our caterpillar. Thanks, Barbie SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Christ is Risen! Joy to you this blessed Easter time! I was pleased that more of our classmates were able to celebrate Easter at church. Memory for tomorrow is Psalm 23 (all verses.) Next week memory will be Matthew 28: 18-20. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." We will be taking achievement tests next week. You can help your child by being sure they eat a good breakfast and get plenty of sleep. You may send a nutritious snack for your child each day. And as always, keep us in your prayers. Blessings!
THIRD GRADE - Mrs. Steichen: He has RISEN!! I hope everyone had a very blessed Easter. This week: Spelling words over Uncle Romie, no test next week, but then the following will be Statue of Liberty words. Memory: Due Friday, Psalm 139:14 “I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Math: There are some students who need to retest over their 4s multiplication facts. If your child got below a 90, they will be testing again this week. Book Reports: Due April 23rd. Field Trips Dates: April 24th (Steichen Farm - no cost), May 5th (Career Day - cost will be lunch), May 14th (Natural Resource Day- no cost). I will send out permission slips when we get closer. Auction- Thank you so much Melissa Wilson for all your work on your project, please everyone come Saturday night and bid on it and all the other items. Have a wonderful week!! FOURTH GRADE - Mrs. Sibley: What a time we had to celebrate our risen Lord, and Savior, as He kept his promises to rebuild the temple in three days. He has Risen Indeed! Hallelujah! ITBS testing next week, please bring in healthy nutritious snacks to enjoy during the breaks of testing. We will be having a math test this Thursday. Today - book orders were sent home today. They are due on Monday the 13th. If you are making a cake for the School Auction, they are due this Friday for the School Auction Cake Decorating Contest. The categories are Junkiest (most candy, etc), Ugliest (it still needs to be edible), and Best Theme (patriotic, spring, Barbie, etc). Don’t forget that 4th graders need to bring one pound instant lemonade that makes the 8 qts for the School Auction. Some of us have started to get ready for summer already. Remember that school is still in session until summer break. Continue to help the kids be diligent and read to make their AR goal. Blessings on your week. FIFTH GRADE - Mrs. Schatte: Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia! Happy Easter! I hope everyone had a blessed four day weekend with lots of family time. Now it's time to get back to work. Tests this week include spelling and reading on Friday. Please check with your child to see how he/she is coming along on reading the book for the book report. Some children are done and can begin working on the actual report. I will gladly take early turn-ins. How about the oral report for social studies country reports? Is your child diligently working on that? Please encourage your child to work on this a little at a time. Saving it until the last minute is a really bad idea. Next week the Iowa tests will be administered. Please see that your child eats breakfast, even if it is light. Also be sure he/she gets a good night's sleep. We want to do everything possible to see that all children do their very best. Blessings!
MIDDLE SCHOOL 4/9 Graduation Pictures for 8th Grade, 9:30 4/13-17 Cheer Tryouts, 3:30 – 4:30 4/13 Chisholm Track Meet
4/21 4/27
DCLA Track Meet (7th & 8th) Pioneer Track Meet
Cheer Tryouts are open to all current 6th and 7th graders and will be held every day after school from 3:30-4:30, April 13-17. Mock tryouts, where parents can come and watch their child perform, will be Thursday at 3:30. "Real" tryouts will be Friday the 17th. Mrs. Harbeson: Hello, All! I hope you enjoyed your Easter weekend, and I also hope you were able to make it to church on Sunday. Thank you, Jesus, for suffering, for sacrificing, and for defeating death! Now, nothing separates us from the love of God! We are now a good ways into the 4th quarter and are as busy as ever. The school auction is set for this Saturday night. Thank you, Darleanna Warnecke, for your dedication and hard work not only on our class project, but also on the entire event itself. You're awesome! The 8th grade OSU trip is scheduled for Friday, May 8. Parents, mark your calendars so you can join us! This is a fun and informative trip for our students before they head off to high school. ITBS week is next week. It's very important for all students to do their best. Get plenty of sleep and eat a good breakfast each morning. Track is also underway. "Tracksters"...be sure to keep up with your work at school. It is your responsibility to make sure all assignments are handed in and all tests and quizzes are made up. Speaking of track, our school-wide track meet at Sullins Stadium is Friday, May 1. Parents, if you can join us that day, we would love to see you there. Whew! I told you we were busy as the year comes to an end! Keep plugging along. The next six weeks will fly by! Blessings! Mrs. Hanson: 6th Grade will have a quiz this week, and will move on to learning about simple machines. 7th Grade will study weather as we are in severe weather season here in Oklahoma. 8th Grade will continue to work on their genetics project. The intro paragraph and slide outlines are due this week.
This Saturday is the auction, all cheerleaders must be present. 7th Graders need to bring their butter or sour cream for the auction by Friday please. Mr. Covert: I hope everyone had a blessed Easter and enjoyed the break as we celebrated the death and resurrection of our Savior, and a preview of God’s plan for us all! We’re picking up where we left off in all the classes. 8th grade has skipped ahead a bit, to the US leaving its isolationist ideals behind and looking across the oceans. In 7th grade, we’re taking a look at Japan and Korea. In 6th grade, we’re closing in on the end of the Byzantine Empire, before we take a look at the Middle Ages. 7th grade parents, keep an eye on this spot. We’ll be having a logistical meeting towards the end of the month to get a few things settled about DC before the end of the school year. I pray for God’s blessings on all of us this week as we move on in this glorious Easter season! Mrs. Goll: Christ is risen! I love Easter! I hope yours was as blessed as mine! Testing today for most classes. Some of our students are feeling a bit overwhelmed by the idea of a math test. The best advice I can give is to “study” a little bit every day. Doing the math exercises is excellent practice, but reworking the examples and memorizing the steps really helps when it comes to test time. And “showing your work” really helps your brain remember the steps needed to do the problem. Next week is ITBS testing, so actual math homework will be reduced, but we will keep moving ahead. Blessings on your week as you continue to Seek Him!

My _______(#) child(ren) will be eating PIZZA in the Day Care Building during the Auction!
Everything You’ve Always Wanted to Know About the Annual First Lutheran Church & School Spring Auction... But Were Afraid to Ask! When the heck is it?!
Saturday, April 11, 2015 in the First Lutheran Gymnasium (which you will have the opportunity to rename)!
What time shall the festivities begin?
5:30 to check things out, 6:00 to eat, and 6:30 to start bidding up your neighbors! (don’t just keep up with the Jones’...you must out-do them)
Whatever shall I wear?
Any old thing. Since it’s Yummy Bar-B-Que, boots and jeans are Great; however, if you wanna wear an evening gown or tux, we’ll probably let you in. (and you may very well find yourself new fancy duds for next year)
Who may come?
Any adult who wants to purchase a ticket. They are sold in the school office: $10 in advance/$12 at the door. Advance tickets will be sold through Thursday April 9, 2015. (Ladies, I know it’s a stretch, but in this instance you will need to concede that your husband is an adult...you are going to need his wallet.)
Why aren’t my kids invited?
Frankly, my dear, because we’ll have more fun without ‘em! (and we may very well be inclined to auction them off, so for their safety...)
Where do the proceeds from the evening go?
Without the proceeds from previous auctions, you literally wouldn’t have the floor under your feet, the roof over your head, or the playground equipment outside! (Who are we kidding? It’s hush money, what happens at FLS auction, stays at FLS auction)
Why should I come?
Because all of the “cool” people from FLC&S will be there, so you know we’re bound to have a good time, and provide much needed funding for the school at the same time!! (Plus, you need to make sure you don’t get nominated to be next year’s auction chair)
I have little kids at home, and DHS said I shouldn’t leave them alone; what’s a parent to do?
We will have Fabulously Responsible people available in the Day Care Building to entertain your darlings and feed them PIZZA! (There will be a free-will donation to thank the caregivers for their service. And there’s PIZZA!)
How do I go about purchasing a ticket?
Fill out the form below, attach your check, and send it with your child to school or bring it by the office yourself, to ensure you get your tickets before they run out! (unless, you prefer to pay full price...hey we are OK with that, too!)
