Well done to former First Lutheran School graduates: Kristin Holle who is one of the Top 10 Graduating Seniors at Po-Hi, and Samuel Flowers for being selected as the Po-Hi 2014-2015 graduating class Valedictorian! Congratulations to the 2010/2011 FLS Graduates, who are now graduating at Po-Hi and Newkirk. We are also celebrating the graduation of former FLS students from: Northern Oklahoma College: Kelby Bales, Callie Larmer, Raymond Blackwell, Bradley Blakeburn, Thomas Duff, Caleb Erickson, Ritesh Kant, T.J. Morris, Amber Kremeier-Scott, Tucker Valentine, and Jake Johndrow; Oklahoma State University: Aaron Hoak and Ross Johndrow; and Oklahoma University: Nicole Smith. We even have a few parents graduating this year; congratulations to Alisa McCleary and Melvin White! If you are aware of other FLS graduates, please send us their names. We are proud of you all, and look forward to great things from you as God works his hand in your life! "FIRST START" PROGRAM - We will now be taking 2 year olds and up in our "First Start" program beginning in the middle of August. The rates and hours will run the same as the Preschool / PK program and before & after Child Care. We praise God for our staff leadership of Mellissa Flaherty and Michelle Lester. If you would be interested in a Part-time position for 20 to 30 hours a week, please let us know. PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum. USBORNE BOOK FAIR: is here! Do you get annoyed every time you walk by your kids in the summer, and they’re watching TV? What they need is a great book(s) to read! The Usborne book fair is set up Wednesday through Friday in the main library in the administration building. We will be open after school Wednesday (today) until 4:30, Thursday until 5:30, and Friday 2:30-4:30 or until everybody is gone. This book fair is set up to take cash or checks (make out to FLS). You can also order online at www.y315.myubam.com/96929. Thanks for buying books! It is great for your children, and book fairs are the means for supplying our library. HELP US SERVE YOU! We are needing every family to complete a survey for our upcoming accreditation. The survey will be up and running online in the next few days at hansonscience.blogspot.com on the home page, and will be titled "Accreditation Survey". (We will send out a FastDirect message to let you know when it’s ready, so please watch your FastDirect email!) We prefer you do the survey online, as the results will be automatically tallied for us, but if you do not have access to the internet, please stop by the office for a paper copy. We ask that you complete the survey by Friday, May 29, 2015. Thanks! CARDINAL CARD CONTEST: Congratulations to the 8th grade class for winning the Cardinal Card contest. SCHOOL PICNIC: The Last Day of School is - Friday, May 22. We will be meeting in our classrooms to get last minute things cleaned-up; we will then walk down to the park for some fun and then head back to the school cafeteria for a picnic lunch, followed by school dismissal at 12:00 noon. This is all weather permitting. Parents are welcome to walk with us/join us at the park & lunch. If you join us at the park and leave with your student from there, be sure to check out with their teacher, and remember that you will need to swing by the school later to pick up any items left in the classroom. If you plan to do this, please remind your student NOT to sign up for a lunch that day. We would love to have family members join us for lunch after we get back from the park; the cost to eat will be $3 if you have RSVP’d in advance in the office by Friday, May 15, or $5 if you pay at the door (or you can get a free ticket—see the next article for details!). Please let us know as soon as possible if you are joining us, so that we will have enough food for everyone. SCHOOL PICNIC NEEDS: We need help rounding up the supplies for serving lunch on picnic day (May 22), so we are asking each class to bring the following supplies. For each family that brings the requested items to the office, we will supply them with one free adult ticket for Friday’s lunch. If you are willing to help with serving lunch, please contact the school office and let us know. We will be feeding lots of people in a short amount of time.  1st grade: 2 big bags of chips  4th grade: 2 big bags of chips  2nd, 3rd, & 4th grade: finger food dessert  5th grade (boys): 50 plates (cookies, brownies, rice krispie treats, etc.)  5th grade (girls): 50 cups REPORT CARD PICKUP: Report Cards will be available for pickup in the school office beginning Friday, March 29. Your financial account must be in good standing in order to pick up a report card. SCHOOL OFFICE SUMMER HOURS: The last week of May, the office will be open Tuesday-Friday, 83:30. Beginning in June (throughout the summer), the school office will be open Monday-Thursday, 9-3 (closed on Friday’s). Because I will need to be out for lunch, the bank, and vacation, please call first and make sure I am here if you are planning to make a special trip. If you need to meet with me and can’t make it in during those hours, please call the school office at 762-9950, leave a message when you are available, and I will be happy to arrange a time to meet you here that works for you. For your convenience, you may make payments over the phone by calling the office with a credit or debit card, you may mail payments (1104 N. 4th, 74601), set up a date to have payments automatically drafted from your bank account, drop by the office Monday – Thursday, or bring your payment by the cafeteria during the summer lunch hours of 11-12:30 Monday – Friday’s. Be sure to stick around and have the kids eat lunch while you are here; 18 and under eat free! SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM: First Lutheran School will be participating in the summer lunch program again this summer. Children age 18 and under will be provided a free lunch in the FLS Cafeteria Monday through Friday, from 11:00 to 12:30, June 1 to August 7, 2015, closed July 3, 2015. The cost for adult meals will be $4.00; Senior citizens and military adults with identification will be charged $3.30. If you’re getting together with friends over the summer, consider stopping in here for lunch and supporting the lunch program! FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH & SCHOOL VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: Hey, Kids, Kindergarten through 5th Grade: want to have some fun this summer? Why not join the Vacation Bible School Team for Camp Kilimanjaro at 5th Street Park Shelter House, 5th and Highland Streets, on June 20 and 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We’ll safari up Mount Kilimanjaro on an epic adventure filled with games, Bible stories, fun songs, unique crafts, and delicious treats. You’ll learn to make wise choices with your ears, hearts, tongues, hands, and feet that glorify our all-wise God who wants us to be wise in all we do. After lunch, we’ll venture to the Splash Pad for an afternoon of water fun. Bring your swimsuit and towel and join us for two Saturdays of summer fun. HELP NEEDED AT RELAY FOR LIFE: We need families to help sell walking taco’s from 3:00 – 9:00 (or later, depending on sales; we need 2 people per shift, please call or stop by the office to sign up. This is one of 4 fundraising events for FLC&S to help with the Relay for Life, as part of our reaching out to the community in conjunction with the 90th anniversary of FLC&S. Ways that you can participate include: 1) Footprints for sale in the office for $1 2) Luminaries for order in the office for $5 due May 8th (Peggy Stracener 580-401-1492) 3) Walking Tacos, day of event AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY RELAY FOR LIFE: will be on Saturday, May 16 beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the Ambucs Motocross Track. As part of our reaching out to the community during FLC&S’s 90th year, we will be participating in this event. You can help us, and support the American Cancer Society, by purchasing footprints in the school office for $1 each. You write your name (or the name of a loved one) on the footprint, and we will display them around the school. You can also dedicate a luminary in honor of someone who has survived cancer, or in memory of someone who lost their fight. The luminaria cost $5 each, will be lit the night of the relay, and remain lit throughout the night as a reminder. To purchase a luminary, please contact the school office. The proceeds from the Relay for Life sales will go to the American Cancer Society. RELAY FOR LIFE WALKING TACOS-NEED DONATIONS FROM CLASSES: We ask that families donate items that we will use to make the walking taco’s; all proceeds from the sale of the taco’s will go to the Relay for Life. Small container of sour cream of Doritos and /or Fritos (can be found at Grades 3 & 4 girls ..... 2 Packages of McCormick taco WalMart on bottom shelf of chip aisle) seasoning CALIFORNIA ROSE PARADE 2015: Petal Pushers is a group of 4,000 volunteers who decorate five Rose Parade floats in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses parade. Each year, volunteers from across the nation assemble in December during Detail and Decorating Days to decorate the Lutheran Hour Float, which is the ONLY Christian theme float in the parade. Volunteers range in age from 13-96. How would you like to be a Petal Pusher? We will leave from Tulsa on Dec. 27 and take a motorcoach to California, see sights along the way, help decorate floats for the parade, see the parade from bleacher seats, 3

We praise God for the time we have had with each of our students this year and we pray God's blessings on your summer ahead. We will miss our 8th grade students graduating next Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. We will say farewell to several families for whom this is their youngest or only child (but we look forward to their return with grandchildren – however, not too soon!), the Angle's, Batschelett’s, Blanton’s, Chapman’s, Didlake’s, Doornbos’s, Jean’s, Patel’s, and Woods’. We look forward to seeing what God has planned for these families. PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Herard: Wow! One more week! Thank you so much for the wonderful gifts last week! Everything was so lovely and I appreciate it (and you) very much. This week we are learning all about the farm and next week will be the zoo. We are sharpening our listening skills working on beginning letter sounds in words. Our picnics are next week so hopefully the weather will cooperate. This will be our last Cardinal Chatter for the school year. Can you believe the end is already here? I thank God every day for bringing me to FLS, and I thank you for sharing your children with me! We have a lost and found in our hallway with some nice jackets in it. Take the time to look at these this week, especially if you are missing one. We had a great day last Friday on our field trip! A special thank you goes to Mr. and Mrs. Tacha, Mr. Brown, and all of the Rangers that helped with our day. Also thank you parents for driving your child and other children! We said goodbye to Addison on Friday, her family has moved to Kansas. We wish you well and miss you already! We will be walking to the park on next Friday (our last day of school); our Third grade reading buddies will be walking with us. You are welcome to walk with us or join us at the park. We will come back to school about 10:30 to eat lunch and prepare for dismissal at 12:00. If you are not planning to eat lunch, you may pick up at the park or at the playground by the elementary building. Please remember to check out with me before you take your child. KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Thank you parents for all the wonderful "Teacher Appreciation" gifts last week, but most of all thank you for sharing your children with me this year! I love them all! Please keep reading all summer with your child so they will be ready for first grade. On the last day of school (Friday the 22nd) we will walk to 5th street park and we will leave at 8:45 am. from the school. If any parents want to walk with us you are welcome! We will stay at the park until it gets crowded with the older kids and then we will leave and come back to our school playground to play. Then we will have a picnic lunch at the cafeteria and have school dismissal at 12:00 (all weather permitting). Please RSVP in advance at the office if you want to eat with us. Your child's report card can be picked up in the school office on Friday, May 29th. We would like to wish Wesley a happy birthday on 5-15. I was overwhelmed with the showering of cards and gifts that came my way. I have enjoyed getting to know you as parents and grandparents of these fifth graders this school year. I have grown as a teacher, and I have watched as this group of children matured and grew academically, physically, and spiritually. Thank you for sharing your child with me. MATHCOUNTS: Calling all Mathletes! We hope to have a full MathCounts Team next year. Please join us on Wednesday, May 13, after school in the math room for a recruitment party. We’ll play some math games, have treats, and do drawings for some prizes. Mrs. Harbeson: Oh, My Goodness! Can you believe that this is our last full week of school for the year? (We get out at noon next Friday!) I'm trying (as I'm sure you are) to wrap my head around everything that needs to be done before the end of our school year. First of all, I want to say thank you for everything I received last week for Teacher Appreciation! From the gifts, kind words, hugs, and encouragement...I truly feel loved by my students and parents. I am blessed to work in such an awesome place. Next, I want to thank the 8th grade class parents for accompanying us to Stillwater last Friday. Jackie Burden, Michele Jean, David Birnbaum, Heather Angle, Sheryl Doornbos, and Tim and Echo Blanton...you all are awesome! We had a great time touring the OSU campus and eating at Eskimo Joe's. We also met up with Meredith Inselman Shepard (former FLS student) who now works at OSU as a recruiter for the College of Education. She was a wealth of information for both our students and parents. Finally, I want to encourage all of you to check out your student's class announcement page to see what's coming up over the next two weeks. That's all for now! Blessings on your week! Mrs. Hanson: All grades will have a comprehensive final next week. Chapters included in the final can be found on my website. We need 5-6 parents and 7th graders to help serve and clean up for graduation dinner. Please let me know if you are willing and able to help. Normally the entire 7th grade class is responsible but we do not need everyone. We have signed up for cheer camp and total cost is $165, this does not include clothing. Please get me a check made out to FLS as soon as possible. Mr. Covert: We’re almost to the end of the year, and what a year it’s been! We’re focusing on the last few things we need to get to before the end of the year. 5


In 8th grade, we just finished World War I, and we will take a very brief look at the Great Depression and how it led us into World War II before closing the year with that. In 7th grade we will finish up our chapter on China, and then look at South Africa as the students have voted to do for our last section. In 6th grade, we just started a chapter on the Crusades and will work through those, and then take a quick look at the Renaissance to end the year if time allows. As we get closer to the end of the school year, we pray that God blesses all of us as we all continue to grow in Him. May He bless us all as we move on from this school year and look forward to a new one! Mrs. Goll: Thank you for sharing your children with us this year.
