The t-shirts are $13 for youth and regular adult sizes, and $16 for Adult 2X and 3X sizes. CAN YOU HELP? DINNER WITH FRIENDS: If you missed the Dinner with Friends sign-up at registration, it is not too late. Sign up and we will group approximately four family units to have dinner three times: once in September, once in October, and once in November. The point is to fellowship and get to know some First Lutheran families with whom you might not otherwise cross paths. The deadline to sign up is August 24. The sign-up sheet is in the entry of the church on a podium or you can contact Rachael Hamre 580-362-0893. “GOD’S NOT DEAD”: The final showings at the drive-in theater “God’s Not Dead” has been extended for one more weekend, August 29-31(Waverly & Highland). Admission is free. TUTORING: After school tutoring will again be offered by the PTL for students 4th grade and older on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:20 to 4:30 in the math room. A high school student will provide guidance for students. Mrs. Goll will also be present most days. PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Herard: We are off to a great start in PS! Thanks to everyone that attended Back to School Night. If you were unable to attend but still have questions, please contact me either through fast direct or by phone (580) 716-8666. This week we are learning about apples. In science, the stages of apple growth and the parts of an apple. We learned that apples can be different colors and they don't all taste the same. We will plant some of the seeds and watch our tree(s) grow. The children love to sing and listen to stories, and we have started art projects, number and letter recognition, and colors. Chapel is on Wednesday, and we will go to the library with Mrs. Hamre T/W at 9:30. No school on Labor Day so next week will be short. Our theme will be Bears so look for a special note regarding Teddy Bear Day! These children are so precious! Thank you for choosing FLS! PRE-KINDERGARTEN - Mrs. Kelly: Happy Birthday Adam! We had a great first week of school! It was great visiting with everyone at Back to School night, I'm glad you came! Scholastic Book Orders are in backpacks today, please order online or bring to me by Friday, September 5th. Each book that you order earns our class points to get new books and games. We are reviewing our colors and shapes and letters this week. We will not have school on Monday. Have a blessed week! KINDERGARTEN - Ms. Miller: We have had a great start to our year! It is very hot, so if your child wants to bring a bottle of water to school they are welcome to do this. We also have a water fountain in our room and hall. Back To School Night was on Tuesday and it was wonderful seeing so many parents. I am sending our "Monday Folders" (homework) home today on Wednesday this week, so please look for them. Please have your child bring them back to school each Monday and parents please sign them with your name and the time spent reading. This will be for books your child reads to you-not books
that you read to your child. Also, for time spent on sight words. We have done the letters A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,and I. Our reading/phonics goes through the alphabet very fast at the start of school and later slows down and takes one letter a week. Have an awesome week! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: I am sorry for the rough start to the school year. I appreciate your continued prayers for my recovery. Thank you to everyone who came to Back To School Night. We are diving into all our subjects this week. Thank you all for coming to Back to School Night. Remember I am here till 4:30 almost every day, so please stop by if you have any questions. This week: Reading: Charlie McButton test on Friday. Vocabulary journals will come home on Thursday, please study those words because they will be on their test. MIDDLE SCHOOL 9/11 9/15
Math Counts Organizational Meeting, 3:30, Math Room Basketball Parent Meeting, 6:15, Cafeteria
MATHCOUNTS: MathCounts is a program of extra math study that could lead to competitions. We’ll have an organizational meeting to determine interest on September 11 in the math room at 3:30. Please call Mrs. Goll if you have any questions. LUNCHROOM POLICY: For the middle school only…in the revised handbook pages that were handed out during enrollment day, there was a change in the lunchroom policy. Beginning this school year, students in middle school who sign up to eat school lunch, and then don’t, will be charged half price for that meal. Thank you in advance for helping us make sure our cooks are not going to the trouble and expense of fixing food for students who aren’t eating, and then having to throw it all away. If your student(s) does not plan to eat the school lunch, they need to remember to tell their homeroom teacher each morning when the teachers take lunch count, and then they will not be charged. Mrs. Harbeson: We had a great first week at FLS! We have so many awesome students with us this year! Last week the middle school students had the opportunity to participate in several "get-to-know-me" activities. Thanks, Mrs. Goll and Mrs. Hanson, for planning those events for us. Last night was Back to School Night at FLS. Thanks to all of you for attending. In language, we have handed out and discussed all the policies that we will be following this year and have also begun our school work. Please check out my bulletin board through FastDirect to find out important dates and information concerning my class. (I have also included some pictures I took last Friday afternoon during our egg toss!) If you don't have a FastDirect account, it's easy to get started. Just call Mrs. Erickson in the school office, and she'll get you set up. I check my FastDirect messages throughout the day so if you ever need to talk to me, drop me a note on FastDirect, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. After school hours, you may call me at 761-7510. The only thing I ask is that you do not call me after 8:00 in the evening unless it is an emergency. That's all for now! Blessings on the rest of your week! Mrs. Hanson: So far this year, in the week we have had, we have been able to investigate with microscopes, dissect a cow eye, and search for bugs! Things are off to a great start! If you were unable to come to back to school night on Tuesday, all you need to know from me are the big changes in my classroom and life. I have flipped my classroom. Instruction, for the most part, will be done at home, online. Students will then come to school to do work and activities. I hope this reaches a lot more of our diverse population of learners. Everything students and parents will need is on my website, hansonscience.blogspot.com. I urge you to visit this website at least once a
week. I have also begun my masters program. So on top of everything, I too have homework. But all of these changes are in the best interests of your student so I can be the teacher they deserve. If you have any questions please contact me through fastdirect. Mrs. Goll: It was great to see many of you at Back to School Night last evening. Remember, you can text me through Fast Direct with any questions or concerns you have about your child’s math progress. Our students have really started the year well. If they keep this same level of diligence and effort, we’ll make great progress. Please review your child’s notebook with him occasionally; ask him what he’s learning in math. Your interest will be great support for your child’s progress. Seek Him first. Mr. Covert: Hello once again! Week 2 is in full swing here at First Lutheran, and in Social Studies as well. We’re starting to work on the early Native Americans in US History, while the World History class is moving into Egypt. In geography we’re wrapping up a chapter about the functions of the Sun and its effects on Geography before we start moving into more specialized geographical items, such as culture and globalization. Also, the students who elected to take the Technology Applications course begin meeting every Tuesday and Thursday starting August 26. All in all, it’s shaping up to be a good second week, and I’m excited to get things going! Mr. Redwine/Athletics: We will start off season basketball training on September 2nd. I handed out September schedules to the kids; if you need another copy you can stop by the office and get one. On Thursdays, the kids will need to bring outdoor shoes for practice. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, September 16th at 6:15pm; we will have a parent basketball meeting in the cafeteria. Also, if you have a Face Book account, make sure you like our First Lutheran Basketball Face Book page. (You can search for FLS Basketball to find the page.)
