YEARBOOKS: We are using Replay-it again to upload and manage yearbook pictures! This is a free app. This is an easy way to get your pictures off your phone to be used for the yearbook. It takes a lot of pictures to fill the wonderful pages of our yearbook. We could not do it without you all. LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF SCHOOL KITS: We are taking collections for School Kits; please consider donating one or more of these supplies: 4 spiral wide-ruled 60-page notebooks, 1 ruler (12 inch with centimeters), 1 small manual pencil sharpener, 1 blunt-ended scissors, 5 unsharpened #2 pencils, 5 blue ball point pens (no clickers), 1 box of 24 crayons, 1 2½” pink eraser. Update: What we are really short on are: crayons (24-pack), 12-inch rulers (with inches and centimeters), and blunt-ended scissors. Please consider donating some of these items! LUTHERAN SCHOOLS PEN PALS: Lutheran Schools Pen Pals is a program for 2nd – 8th grade LCMS students. Each participating child will be matched with another child of similar age and interests. Exchanging letters will provide your student with an opportunity to share their faith and improve their writing skills, all while creating a relationship with a Lutheran student in another part of the country. If you are interested, please complete the form attached to last weeks’ chatter and return with your $5.00 fee to the address on the form by September 25. Participating students will receive their Pen Pal’s name and address in October. OKLAHOMA PROMISE: We have forms for Oklahoma Promise in the office; if you and your student meet the requirements, your student will earn tuition at an Oklahoma public two-year college or four-year university, or a portion of tuition at an accredited Oklahoma private college or university, or a portion of tuition for programs that qualify for federal financial aid at public career technology centers. If your student is in 8 th, 9th or 10th grades and the parents’ adjusted gross income does not exceed $55,000, stop by the office to pick up an application, or apply online at www.okpromise.org. SCHOOL NOTIFICATION SYSTEM: You may not be aware that we have a school portal called FastDirect (found at www.fastdir.com/flcspc). You can use this portal to email teachers and staff, check your students’ grades and account balances, and even see what’s for breakfast and lunch that week. If you need to know your login id and password, or if you have forgotten it/been locked out and need it re-set, please contact the school office. PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Thoughts from Sunday Sermon/reading in Romans 11. What is your talent/gifts? Is it prophecy, service, teaching, encouraging, contributing, leading, or mercy? I know some amazing people in this school/church that are amazing at service, contributing, and especially encouraging and I praise God for you. You all hold a special place in my heart. -- 1 --

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Herard: Thank you to Kennedy and Denver for buying supplies off the wish list for our classroom! We appreciate your kindness. This week, we are busy learning all about bears-what kind of bears there are, where they live, and what types of food they eat. Don't forget, SHOW AND TELL is Thursday—bring a favorite bear to share with the class. Book orders are due next Wed. Sept. 6th. NO SCHOOL on Monday for Labor Day so enjoy a long weekend! Blessings! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly/Mrs. Colvin: Happy third week of school! We are getting into our routine. We have finished reviewing our shapes and colors and will start assessments soon. We are working on writing our first names, if you would like to do this at home. Show and tell is on Friday. Book orders are due to us or online by Friday. Our Bible words this week are, I have called you by name, you are Mine. Isaiah 43:1 Have a blessed week! KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Our class would like to say happy birthday and goodbye to Euloria on Friday, Sept st 1 ; she is moving. Also, this Friday will be our first show and tell (first Friday of each month). Parents please make sure your child's show and tell will fit in their backpack. When your child is done reading their online homework book, please click on (I'm done). The book will go away but you can always get back to it by clicking on: To Do; Explore; Search; Media Type; and eText (to find all the kindergarten books). Have a wonderful week! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday is Psalm 31:14 - I trust in You, O Lord; I say, "You are my God." Book orders are due on Thursday, August 31. You may order online or send in a check to me. Mark your calendars for the Cardinal Carnival on Thursday, September 14. Have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend! SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: We're doing GREAT! We seem to be settled into a good routine and are doing well adjusting to our schedule. Thanks for signing your child's planner and homework. Be sure to let me know if you have questions or concerns. Book orders are due September 14. Our trip to Leonardo's will be September 22 and permission slips with admission money is due September 19. Blessings! THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Things are off and running here in 3rd grade. I hope you are all starting to figure out my routine with homework. If you haven't noticed, some of us have had a bit much here lately. This is due to talking during time given in class to work on it. I have given the class multiple talks about talking, and it has not seemed to help. Please, if you could have a talk with your children about respecting others and not talking. Thank you for your help! This week: Memory: Old Testament Books Genesis through 2 Chronicles. This is due Friday, September 8th. There is a link to the song on FastDirect. Test this week: Math, Spelling, and Reading on Friday. Reminder there is no school on Monday, we will still do spelling and reading next week. If you are traveling over the long weekend, be safe and have fun! Have a wonderful week. FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Continue reading to earn our AR goals! Thank you for bringing in wish list items. I can’t wait to see other items. We are still working on perfecting those daily routines. Looking at student work helps scholars to stay on take task and helps to ensure a great next school day! The more completed in school the less to do at home! Make sure you turned in the school bully policy paper if you have not yet. The Cardinal Carnival is coming up and we are responsible for the ring toss, so each child needs to bring two 12 packs of pop for the game. As Rose Hill is around the corner, please be looking for more information to come. Blessings as we relax this long weekend. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: We are having an okay week here in 5th grade, but definitely NOT fantastic, as I would like. Some of us act as if just keeping our head off our desks while I am teaching is asking too much. A few of us are doing a fabulous job of following along and acting interested, but as a teacher I need ALL children prepared and striving to learn. I was most disappointed in the continent and ocean quizzes last week. I know you have seen your child's quiz by now because it had to be signed. I hope you were disappointed if your child's grade was not at least an 80%. I enjoy this group of children, but I can see that as a class we need to step it up quite a bit. Tests this week include spelling and reading on Friday. Tuesday holds math test one. Today we took a quiz on the Helping Verbs in language. Please see my Bulletin Board on Fast Direct for tests and quizzes. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. I am always willing to have a conference if you have concerns. Blessings!

MIDDLE SCHOOL Mrs. Harbeson: Greetings and Happy Labor Day Weekend! I know I'm getting a jump on things, but I can't help myself! The school year has started off fantastic, but I sure am looking forward to a 3-day weekend to take a little breather! We are moving along in language for all the classes. Every grade has begun grammar, composition, spelling, vocabulary, and literature. We have also STAR tested all the middle schoolers to see where they are starting this year -- 2 --

when it comes to reading levels. It is normal for scores to decline a little bit after the summer. I have been talking to the kids about reading and how important it is to their academic success. I will also be sending a letter home informing you of your child's current reading level. The most important thing to remember about attaining higher reading levels is that you can only do it by . . . READING! There is nothing else that will raise those scores. Parents, please, please encourage your student to read every day. It can be books that I assign in class, text books from other subjects, newspapers . . . anything! Just encourage them to read! After we get back from the Labor Day Weekend, we will be beginning study hall on Tuesdays and Thursdays (my room) and student council. That's all for now. Be sure to check your student's announcement page on my website (harbolanguage.blogspot.com) to see what we will be doing in class this week. I hope you all having a great week and have an awesome Labor Day Weekend! Stay safe! Mrs. Hanson: Thanks to all who came to the Parent Tech Orientation. I hope it was helpful. If you came and wouldn't mind filling out a reflection/survey again, please do so on my website. If you have further questions about anything discussed last night, please get in touch with one of us, we would be happy to help. 8th graders are collecting bugs, 7th graders are collecting rocks and minerals, and 6th graders are learning about the world of atoms! We have all dedicated our lives to learning and intention this year; we can always be learning something! There is always something for students to be doing for Spirit Quest as well. We will be making intent bracelets soon. Please talk with your student about what they have chosen to be intentional about so you can be their accountability partner. You may wish to take something on as well, and I would be happy to make you an intent token. Mrs. Pacey: Happy Wednesday!! Our first day out of school is coming up. Enjoy the long weekend! We are working in MobyMax a little more this week. Middle school students can compete in a fact fluency competition this week against the entire middle school in MobyMax. Let's make it another great week! Mr. Covert: We’re about to get into September already! These first couple weeks have flown by as we’ve started to get into our classroom routines. We’re at the beginning of all our content in social studies. 8th grade is moving into the Revolutionary War, post Declaration of Independence. 7th grade is working through the physical characteristics, history, and current situation in the Eastern United States. In 6th grade, we’re going over the earliest civilizations in the Fertile Crescent before we turn toward Egypt. 7th grade parents, last week I sent fundraising packets home for our cookie dough fundraiser. I’ll need those packets back no later than Tuesday, September 12, so make sure they’re selling while they have the chance! I pray that God continues to richly bless our school family as we move on through this young school year. Blessings on your week!
