FREDDY’S NIGHT! First Lutheran School has Freddy’s night TONIGHT! Wednesday, Sept. 12 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. All you have to do is have dinner at Freddy’s! When the cashier is ready to take your order, tell them you are there in support of First Lutheran School, and Freddy’s will donate a portion of your purchase to the school! Tell your friends, family, neighbors, and complete strangers. It doesn’t cost you anything more than the cost of your dinner! And now, it’s time for the CARDINAL SHOUTOUT; a place for us to recognize how talented and diversified our students are! CONGRATULATIONS TO FIRST GRADERS:

A month of school has flown by and we are making progress every day. This week we are learning about "Feelings" and the letter "D". At three, our emotions are very strong and sometimes difficult to manage, but God isn't finished with us yet! Every day is a new beginning and we continue to work on social skills as well as academics. We are enjoying our chapel services on Wednesdays. Children may bring coins as an offering each week. (Sometimes offerings are specified i.e., cans of food, but for now we are just doing $). We are running low on snacks! Please help if you are able. No school next Fri. Sept. 21 for Oklahoma Teacher Convention. Have a blessed week! PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: Yeah for the cooler weather! I hope everyone is having a great week so far! This week we will be learning all about our feelings and the letter D. A early Happy Birthday goes out to Na'Via! She will be turning 4 on the 17th! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: It is getting cooler in the mornings, Please remember that we go outside for morning recess. Please send a jacket with your child with their name in it. We met our Chapel Offering goal of $100.00! We are still collecting for the Epilepsy Foundation until the end of first quarter (fall break). Thank you for helping us reach our goal! If you haven't brought snack yet, please get that to us soon. Thank you for the "wish list" items you have brought! The children are excited to use some of the supplies! Our Bible words this week are, I, the Lord, am your Savior. Isaiah 60:16. We are learning about helping our family and about sounds in our environment. Have a blessed week! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Heitman: Please remember to check your student's folder each Wednesday and send it back the next day. Tuesdays are PE, please remember to send your child in tennis shoes on those days. Thank you for the amazing response to our Chapel offering! The Epilepsy foundation is near and dear to our hearts here at FLS. We have a few more weeks to raise money, so even though we've already met our goal let's keep on bringing money in and earn that party! Save the date: October 10 will be our trike-a-thon and October 17 will be our fieldtrip to the Rustic Roots Pumpkin patch. More info will come home in the coming weeks. Our Bible words for this week are "God saw that it was good." Genesis 1:10 Please continue to pray each day for your student, our class, our principal, and our school, so that we can make this the best year possible! KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Our Chapel Offering for this quarter is the Epilepsy Foundation of Oklahoma! Parents, please save the date of October 17th because we are going on a field trip to Rustic Roots Pumpkin Patch with the Early Childhood Building and we will need drivers and chaperones. I will give you more information later. If you take your child to lunch you need to come early at 10:50 because we need to be in the lunchroom at 11:00; thank you. If you are late then you are welcome to pick your child up across the street in the lunchroom. Thank you parents for working on your child's "Monday Folder" homework every school day and for working on their letters and sounds! We would like to wish Kennedy a happy birthday on Sunday the 16th. I hope everyone has a sensational week! 2
FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday is Acts 3:19 - Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out. Please make sure that your child has read their AR book at home and that they bring their book to school on Wednesday ready to take the AR test. Also, the AR reading log page in their folder is only for your child to write on, you do not need to log any books on that sheet. I would like for the kids to have a pair of earbuds to use during our computer time. These earbuds will be kept at school. An inexpensive pair of earbuds can be purchased if you do not have any. Let me know if you have any questions about this! Upcoming dates to mark your calendars - Wed, Oct 10 is the Trike-A-Thon and Wed, Oct 17 will be our field trip to Rustic Roots Pumpkin Patch. More details for both of these will come out later. Blessings on your week! SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Ah! This cooler weather is such a gift! It's almost jacket weather! We're excited about our trip to Leonardo's this Friday. Remember that we'll need sack lunches that day. Thanks in advance for making this possible. Please listen to your child say the Lord's Prayer and help with pronouns. I'll listen to each student individually next Tuesday. Thank you. Happy September Birthday to Tripp! God's Blessings, Dear Friend! Blessings! THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: We are loving this cooler, drier weather. The kids were going crazy being inside all the time. This week: Memory is due today, it is Genesis through Daniel. Next will be all of the Old Testament books. Reading: Test on Friday with a paragraph on Thursday. Next week we will start a chapter book to read together in class. That means no reading test or paragraph for a few weeks. Spelling words will stay the same and continue in the same order. Math: We are now at 20 problems. We will have our next test early next week. Science: Please be on the look out for our warm blooded animal project. Everyone did a wonderful job on their cold blooded animals. Field Trip: Please have money to me this Friday. It is $5.25 for everyone going. Book Order: Please have those to me this week also. Please let me know if you have any questions. Hope you have a wonderful week!! FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Well we are really into the swing of school. Students see the need for full organization, focus and hard work, this task takes practice. Continue reading to earn our AR goals! Please check my Fast Direct for the school policy for late work; some students are very close to unwanted consequences! Please keep signing planners nightly. We are accepting chapel money and school supplies any day of the week! The kids are thinking of great things to give up for others in need. Our first field trip will be on Oct 10th. This is a great daddy field trip to learn about life in the past! Book Orders are due on the 19th! Peace as you serve the Lord. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: Remember our field trip to Leonardo's is Friday. Everyone going will need a sack lunch for this day. Our final spelling test and reading test is on Thursday this week since we will be gone Friday. The 4th Commandment and meaning are also due Thursday. As everyone prepares for these fun field trips, it is important to remember to keep up with your school work. Tutoring is available and free after school until 4:30 for any FLS middle school student who would like to stay. Mrs. Hanson is the tutor for this month. That's all for now! Blessings to you on the rest of your week! Mrs. Hanson: 6th grade is still working with the metric system, learning to measure properties of matter and convert units. Ask your student how the metric system is easier and better than the Standard American System. 7th grade is identifying unknown minerals! They have learned about properties of minerals and identification tests, so now they are using that info to identify a group of 10 unknown minerals! 8th grade has learned what it means to be considered a living thing and is now working on how to classify all living organisms, including their insects; The Bug Project, by the way, has been rescheduled. We are working more in class and together on aspects of the project. A firm due date has not been assigned yet. I want good products and for the kids to enjoy not be stressed by this project. When I feel they are closer to ready, a due date will be assigned. All classes will have a vocab quiz this Friday. Ms. Pacey: I am loving our new Chromebooks! We have started using KhanAcademy and MobyMax for homework. Every class has an assignment at the start of the week, and it is due at the end of the week. Students can definitely ask me questions about either, but I think we have worked out most of the kinks over last week. We will use KhanAcademy for the math we are actually learning in class and MobyMax for review tailored to each student. MathCounts will continue to meet Wednesdays 3:30 to 4:30 and during study hall on Fridays. Blessings on your week! Mr. Covert: September is flying by! I hope everyone is enjoying some of this cooler weather now that it looks like it’s finally stopped raining. Our classes are moving right along as well. 8th grade is going over the events that led to the writing of the Constitution before we go over the document itself to discover how our country is run, why certain things are the way they are, and the rights everybody in America has. In 7th grade, we’re wrapping up the Eastern US, before we come over to our side of the Mississippi River. As for 6th grade, we’re working our way through Egypt’s history, and looking at the influence they had on the ancient world. 8th grade parents, we will be having a DC meeting on Thursday, September 20th, at 6:00 PM in my classroom. PLEASE try to make it there. This is our last meeting before the trip and we have a few logistical things we need to cover, so please do your best to attend. I pray that God continues to bless our school family as we move through September. Blessings on your week! FUTURE WASHINGTON D.C. ATTENDEES: If you need to make payments to your D.C. account, please note that you cannot make payments with a credit card. We will, however, accept checks, cash, money orders, etc. Thank you.

First Lutheran collects and earns credit for recycling ink and toner cartridges (full or empty) and electronic devices! Please bring any donated items to the office. In addition, we also collect BoxTops. You can turn them in anytime, or hold on to them for the class competition (details coming in future chatters). COKE POINTS! Inside the lid/box of Coke products is a code. If you create an account and log in to coke.com, you can donate that code to First Lutheran School. When approximately 500 lids have been donated, the school will receive a check worth $25 at the end of that quarter. If you would rather donate time, we have a whole stash of lids waiting to be entered, and we need volunteers to come enter them for us.
