MIDDLE SCHOOL 9/11 Math Counts Organizational Meeting, 3:30, Math Room 9/15 Basketball Parent Meeting, 6:15, Cafeteria

9/22-26 8th Grade Washington D.C. 9/24-26 6th Grade Lutherhoma 9/25-26 7th Grade Zoo Snooze

MATHCOUNTS: MathCounts is a program of extra math study that could lead to competitions. We’ll have an organizational meeting to determine interest on September 11 in the math room at 3:30. Please call Mrs. Goll if you have any questions. LUNCHROOM POLICY: For the middle school only…in the revised handbook pages that were handed out during enrollment day, there was a change in the lunchroom policy. Beginning this school year, students in middle school who sign up to eat school lunch, and then don’t, will be charged half price for that meal. Thank you in advance for helping us make sure our cooks are not going to the trouble and expense of fixing food for students who aren’t eating, and then having to throw it all away. If your student(s) does not plan to eat the school lunch, they need to remember to tell their homeroom teacher each morning when the teachers take lunch count, and then they will not be charged. Mrs. Harbeson: I hope you all enjoyed your 3-day weekend! I got some rest and enjoyed the OSU game on Saturday night. Even if we didn't win, we sure showed FSU what we're made of! GO POKES! Friday afternoon was entertaining as we watched Mrs. Hanson and our First Lutheran cardinal basketball team raise money for ALS in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Way to go, Everyone! We have a busy week in language. Please check out my bulletin board to see what's going on. Family Fun Night is quickly approaching (Thursday, September 18). Please plan on attending this fun, fundraising event. I also sent home Scholastic book order catalogs last week. You may bring your order to school or order online. You can get to that link from my bulletin board. All orders are due by Friday, September 5. That's all for now. Blessings to everyone! Mrs. Hanson: All classes have started their individual curriculum. Whenever in doubt about homework, check my website to see if you have any! Parent, look for extra credit opportunities either on my bulletin board or website. 8th Graders need a sponge poster board to pin bugs to as well as a collection jar. We will be going to a family farm next week for which we will need drivers. Please let me know if you are willing and able.

7th Grade's Zoo Snooze will be Sept. 25-26. We will need drivers and parent chaperones. Be on the watch for a more detailed letter soon! 6th Graders are handling middle school well. They need to make sure they stay organized and focused. Parents, most assignments are online and all assignment notification is online. Don't forget to bring in school materials for those less fortunate! Mrs. Goll: Wasn’t the Labor Day break refreshing? All the math classes are finishing up Chapter 1. Most will take tests on Friday this week or Monday next. Ask your student to tell you what he has been studying for that test. Have you seen your student’s math book lately? Your interest in his progress will go a long way to helping him have the right attitude about math (and all his studies). Seek Him first… After school tutoring began yesterday with Cora Watts working with the students. Students meet in the math room until 4:30 on Tuesday’s & Thursday’s. Tutoring is open to students in grade 3 and above. Remember we will discuss MathCounts after school on Thursday, Sept. 11. Mr. Covert: It's week three! It's nice to have an extra day off, but it's also nice to get back into the swing of things! All three social studies classes will be taking their first test this week, so we'll be reviewing the first days before we dive into the tests. 8th grade is getting geared up for our DC trip; one more week of magazine sales! In our tech elective, we will be continuing to look at safety with information online. I hope everyone had a blessed Labor Day, and is recharged and ready for the new week!
