Prayer Request: please keep Reed and his family in your prayers as they lost a family member this week. Have a great week and please let me know if you have any questions about grades, A.R. or book reports. FOURTH GRADE - Mrs. Sibley: A HUGE THANK YOU for all of the school families that came to help assemble over 200 school kits last night! What a blessing you have all been to others that need school supplies. Please help your scholars to read for AR. The end of the quarter is coming to an end extremely soon. Some of us have a long way to go to eat that ice cream! Continue to go over assignments with students for simple mistakes. This makes a big difference for academic understanding and retention of material. We have started our Book-It Program by Pizza Hut. Students are to bring their reading log to school and home and back again to keep track of their pages. We are going to read 500 pages monthly. Remember that page number includes AR time at home, here at school, and Reading Buddy pages. Keep Reading! Please look on my Fast Direct Bulletin Board for a special message about fourth grade. The permission slip for our field trip on 10/14 to the Steam Show in KS went home today. This is a great daddy field trip to see how life was back in the “Good Old Days!’’ Continue to be blessed and praise the Lord as we are his workmanship. FIFTH GRADE - Mrs. Schatte: What a wonderful time we had on our field trip to Bartlesville last Wednesday! The week goes really fast when you have a field trip right in the middle. This is a review week in reading, so there will be no reading or spelling test. There is a cumulative math test on Thursday that will cover lessons 16-20, and a Benchmark test on Friday that covers all information on lessons 1-20. Thursday also holds the quiz on the Middle West states and capitals. Blessings!

LUTHERHOMA, ZOO SNOOZE, AND WASHINGTON D.C. ATTENDEES: As of the time of this printing, only 2 pictures have been submitted to the yearbook for the D.C. trip, and none for either of the other middle school field trips. The best way to have pictures of your children in the yearbook is to submit them, and it is so easy with the free ReplayIt App. Download the App to your phone, and then follow the super easy instructions to associate yourself with First Lutheran, and upload your pics (you might want to do this while connected to WiFi). It is simple to upload apps from your phone, and won’t take much time at all. Thanks for your contributions! LADY CAT JR. HIGH GOLF TRYOUTS: Jr. High (6th – 8th) Girl’s Lady Cat Golf Tryouts will be next Tuesday, 10/6, at Wentz at 3:30. You must provide your own equipment and transportation. MathCounts (5th Grade and above) —Mrs. Goll: Calling all Mathletes! We’ll have our organizational meeting for MathCounts on Thursday, October 8, from 3:30 to 4:30. Please join us! Music—Seventh Grade—We’ll sing this Sunday, October 4, at the start of the 11:00 service. Please meet me in the narthex of the church at 10:50. After we sing, I hope you can stay and worship with us; but if you need to leave to attend your own church, we understand. Mrs. Goll FLSCA: The kickoff for FLSCA (FLS Fellowship of Christian Athletes) will be on Wednesday, October 14 at 7:30 a.m. in the extra classroom south of the gym (The old 4th grade classroom). ALL middle school students are invited and encouraged to attend, you do not need to be an athlete to participate in this time of Christian Fellowship! ELIGIBILITY TO PARTICIPATE (team sports, cheerleading, or other extra-curricular activities): With the approaching basketball/cheer season, please remember that students involved in extra-curricular activities will have their grade status evaluated at the beginning of every three weeks. A student who has a grade below 70% in any subject will be put on probation. During that time, the student will be given an opportunity to raise the grade above 69.9%. The 3
Growing up Into Jesus, Reaching Out with Jesus, Walking Together in Jesus
student must take action to raise the grade. Failure to raise the grade will result in suspension from the extra-curricular activity until the next three week grade check. After the first probationary period, a student will be suspended from the extra-curricular activity when any grade drops below 70%. Suspensions are enforced and lifted on the first school day of the week. (Any students failing a subject on their report card will be suspended from extra-curricular activities until all grades are passing at the three week check point.) Mrs. Goll: Wow! Camp Lutherhoma was great! Many, many thanks to our chaperones and drivers and an extra special thank you to Barbi Spore who was our head cook. That camp is a beautiful site (and sight)! Our astronomy class reminded us that our universe is immensely vast and yet our good and gracious God tells us that He knows the very number of hairs on our heads! Our God is truly an awesome God. We are headed to the end of the quarter. Students, be sure you are up to date with all your work; late work and incomplete work is really hard on the grade averages. Mrs. Harbeson: Welcome back, Everyone! Wow!! We sure have had a busy few weeks. Now that everyone is back from their trips, it's time to hunker down and finish up the first 9 weeks strong! That's right, two weeks from today marks the end of the first quarter. Everyone should be checking FastDirect to make sure any missing assignments are completed and handed in. In language, all classes are required to read an AR book of their choice and take the AR test by Wednesday, October 14. In closing, I'm asking all of you to keep a few of our Ponca City families in your prayers. Please be praying for former FLS student, Erin Thomas, in the passing of her grandmother. I also ask that you keep the Shepherd and Jackson families in your prayers. May God give you all the love and strength you need to help you through this very difficult time. God's blessings to you all! Mrs. Hanson: Sounds like we all had great trips the past week! But now it's back to work! Late/missing work seems to be chronic and contagious. Please check all classes for late work and get it in by the end of the week. No science late work will be accepted past Friday for any class. 7th Grade will have a test over minerals this Friday. We will review every day before then. 6th Grade is memorizing the nobel gases by Friday. They are also now learning how atoms behave together. 8h Grade's bug project is due next Tuesday. Mr. Covert: Everybody's back from all the trips and we thank God for their safe return and for the good experiences we all had! The 8th graders are using this first week to get their DC presentations done. In 7th Grade we're talking about the eastern United States before we talk about the rest of the United States starting next week. And in 6th grade we finished up Egypt and are starting to talk about the Israelites before moving on to ancient Greece. I pray God blesses the school and all the families in it as we continue to do everything to the glory of His Son's name!

DON’T THROW THAT AWAY!!: First Lutheran School collects, and benefits from, donations of used/empty ink cartridges, old cell phones, BoxTops for Education, Campbell’s soup labels, and Coke points! Do you throw away ink or toner cartridges @ work? Do the kids on your child’s team drink Powerade’s with Coke points under the lid? Possibly your youth group had a lock-in and served cans of Coke, Sprite, Minute Maid or Fanta, (with Coke points on the inside flap of the box they came in?) Those ring binders that your office uses may have BoxTops points on the labels! Please send all of these items to school with your child or drop them off at the school office, and your school will benefit from it! We can use the proceeds/points from these companies to purchase playground balls, classroom and office supplies, and discounts on our toner/ink needs, which all helps to keep your costs down! THANKS for your help! NOTE! If you buy bottles of Dasani water, they do have Coke points, but they aren’t on the lids. We need the code that is stamped on the inside of the plastic packaging. If you’re not sure what it looks like, bring the packaging in to the office, and we’ll help you find it.
