4.0_RE-EVALUATING BEHAVIOR THROUGH TECTONICS
from Towards a Lively Architecture - Exploring Response in Bent Wood Assemblies | Thesis by David Heaton
by David Heaton
Moving forward from the fabric tests, it was realized that some of the original reverberance and the ability for the system to resonate motion was lost. What was gained was a better understanding of some of the more ephemeral possibilities of a lively system such as the ability to visually amplify subtle motion through light, shadow, and opacity. In order to readdress the idea of a lively tectonic, it was necessary to begin testing different configurations at a larger scale. Was it possible to duplicate or enhance some of the resonating abilities observed in scaled models to something that could engage with humans at a larger scale? Could the scaling of a lively tectonic actually begin to create space and alter our perception of our surroundings?
