Community Spotlight

Joining Hearts Show Their Love By Kevin Woods

For the past 23 years Joining Hearts has been a major contributor to AID Atlanta and Jerusalem house. In this time span they have generated over $1 Million in donated funds. Yearly, Joining Hearts hosts many different events, and year-by-year 100% of every dollar made from these events goes straight to Aid Atlanta, and Jerusalem House. “We raised a lot of money! These (sponsors, patrons, and supporters) really do make a difference in our community,” said Ben Handsock, 2009-2010 president of Joining Hearts. On Saturday, September 25, Joining Hearts hosted their Check Presentation Party at Jungle nightclub. The party signifies the end of the donating year for Joining Hearts. Each year they have given groundbreaking amount in donations. Last year they donated a record breaking $93,000. This year they greatly surpassed that record by donating a staggering $125,000, giving both of the charities $62,500. The directors of both charities were unfailingly appreciative of the donations bestowed upon them. Aid Atlanta Director, Mark Rinder, declared that “what Joining Hearts has done is to make sure that on cold nights, literally hundreds of people 16 davidatlanta

who would otherwise go unsheltered, would have shelter because of these $62,500 you donated. We use the money strictly to provide aid to our patrons for heat, food, and housing. Thank you, thank you, thank you!” The director of Jerusalem House, Todd Shell, also spoke on the impact that Joining Hearts has had on his organization. “What you do for Jerusalem House has helped almost 500 people. I’m glad to say that we now serve more as a transitional house. The funds from Joining Hearts provide us the funding to keep these great programs going. Thank you so much!” In addition to presenting their final award for their fiscal year, Joining Hearts also named the new board members for 2010-2011. Among those appointed were: Kerry Loftis as President, Kevin Jelly as Director of Development, Patrick McCully as Director of Marketing, and Russ Barry as Assistant Dirctor of events, Todd Overhults as Communication Director. Loftis, who volunteered with Joining Hearts as a host and bartender in the past said, “It’s not just the hosts, it’s not just the board, we couldn’t do any of this without the sponsors and patrons. I’ve got some big shoes to fill…We start from $0 today and we have a big goal ahead of us.”

UNDERWARS

Cover Story

Do you remember the days when picking drawers meant choosing between Hanes and Fruit of the Loom? When every brief was the basic standard cut, sold in packs of three and all came in bright white? You knew it was time to change them when they turned dingy grey or when the elastic was stretched to disrepair. Life was simpler then. When did drawers get complicated? In the early nineties, Victoria’s Secret launched a revolution in women’s underwear. Back then, no one believed a store that sold only underwear could survive. With sales surpassing $5 billion last year, the stores have done more than survive – Victoria’s Secret has thrived, sparking a multibillion dollar industry in women’s undies. It was only a matter of time before retailers set their sights on men. It began with designer brands like Calvin Klein and CIN2. Then came the funderwear brands: Joe Boxer and Ginch Gonch. Today, there are hundreds of men’s underwear brands competing for space in your underwear drawer. It’s the fiercest battle for the bulge since, well, the Battle of the Bulge. A new men’s underwear brand seems to launch every week. Tim Wildman: It’s a hot market. Guys are realizing one size does not fit all anymore. Jason Sutherland: Back in the Wrangler days, men were taught to think they were built tough and didn’t need comfort. Men are finally enjoying some pampering - not just in underwear but in body products, clothing and accessories. What does a new brand need to compete in today’s competitive market? Nir Zilberman: Money! It’s a tough industry. Not everyone can be CK. The same way new companies are launching every day, they’re also one going down. How is your brand competing in today’s underwars? Jason Sutherland: Piss & Vinegar strives to be bold. Our customer wants something fresh that makes him stand out from the crowd. Tim Wildman: Wildmant addresses the growing need of male enhancement underwear. We’re delivering a fuller package.

20 davidatlanta

How often do you introduce new styles and/or collections? Jason Sutherland: We look at it like sex. It’s not about how often you have sex, it’s about how good it is. We release new styles when the cut, fabric, and pattern are right. Tim Wildman: Same here. We introduce new styles or collections at any time. Our swimwear is the only seasonal item. What new collections are you most excited about? Nir Zilberman: ES and Addicted. We’re the exclusive USA retailer of ES. If you want to see the full ES collection, you need to visit LaJock.com. Can brands co-exist peacefully? Tim Wildman: There are over six billion people in the world. There are plenty of guys for all the underwear companies to share. Heck, I only need 5 million sporting Wildmant to make me happy. Nir Zilberman: Peace equals comfortable and that’s when brands becomes boring. Healthy competition is what keep the industry thriving. Brands always need to be working on what comes next. Are most men loyal to one brand? Jason Sutherland: Trend setters love new stuff and are always willing to experiment with new brands, especially with underwear. Tim Wildman: I like to go in Laundromats from time to time to see what brands guys are buying. I’m sure I look like a pervert looking at stranger’s undies but its research. From what I see, guys love variety. American men have long favored boxers. Are you noticing a shift towards briefs? Nir Zilberman: Yes, even straight men are finally wearing briefs. Guys spend so much time in the gym, they want to look as sexy as possible. Jason Sutherland: Boxers have enjoyed their own evolution. A cup pouch in the front that allows the junk to fill the area instead of being pressed and restricted is the new favored cut in boxers. What brand is currently winning the underwars? It’s too Jason Sutherland: early to tell. Brands have shorter lives then ever. Today, it’s more about keeping up with the constant shift in trends. Continued on Page 23 21 davidatlanta

Cover Story

Continued

Have there been any recent causality’s? Nir Zilberman: Ginch Gonch. Jason Sutherland: And there is rumbling about CIN2. How is the economy impacting sales? Nir Zilberman: Guys are buying less underwear. Tim Wildman: We’re anxiously waiting for President Obama to sign the Underwear stimulus. Do sales pick up at holiday time? Jason Sutherland: The best thing about underwear is it’s a replenishing business. It sells out and gets re-ordered regularly, so even with the peaks and valleys of sales cycle, if you manage the business correctly, you can weather the moody sales season. What will be the final result of the Underwars? Nir Zilberman: I think brands will consolidate. Within two years, the winners will take over the losers and there will be five strong brands left. Jason Sutherland: I expect the Underwars will last longer. This battle won’t be so brief. 22 davidatlanta

Nightlife

The Ultimate “La Fiesta” with

Laura Leon at Chaparral

An Icon in the Latin entertainment world, a known staple in the Latin music scene, and to Americans she is comparable to Cher, but in the Latin music/entertainment scene she is Laura Leon. For thirty-years she has been entertaining Mexico and to celebrate her time entertaining, she has chosen to go a mini-tour throughout the United States. During her time as an entertainer she began her career singing Mariachi music in the 1970’s, her known signature tropical music; she has acted on television and had her own talk show. Throughout her career she has strived to become an icon of entertainment in the Mexican world and her rise, or rather her journey to her current success is destined to be. Known as “La Tesorito” or little treasure Laura Leon; uses her image to spread her wings even further so that her business and her popularity will continue grow. Though it has been a nine year break in between albums Laura Leon’s break has not been one for leisure, a mother and a business woman, her break included her taking risks with her career. Her career has been filled with music, albums and energetic stage filled performances; Laura has acted in television soap operas and was the host of her own talk show in Peru during her break. A versatile performer and actress; Laura Leon has shown that she has the ability to take on different roles as a woman and entertainer. With the mini-tour in the United States Laura Leon is ready to begin the party again with the celebration of her new album and the three decades in the entertainment world. Throughout her minitour in the United States Laura Leon’s will visit include Los Angeles, California, Houston, Texas, Miami, Florida, New York and Dallas to name a 30 davidatlanta

few places. Her stop in Atlanta, Ga will be Friday, October 8, at The Chaparral. By her visit falling during Atlanta Gay Pride Weekend, the timing is perfect to celebrate your pride with the Mexican actress and singer who is comparable to Cher. Her show at The Chaparral will be filled with surprises, dancing and everything else associated with a party. The theme of her show is just that “La Fiesta,” a party!! Everything that you can think of to have a wonderful party Laura Leon will have it in her show. Her “La Tesorito” or her little treasures, also known as her fans can be sure that the show will be exhilarating and the fans will be unable to look away. Laura Leon’s shows are famous for wild wigs, flamboyancy and for the energy she brings to the stage. At home on the stage Laura will perform hits such as “La Fiesta”, “Un Camino”, “Dos Mujers”, and “Suavecito.” Since these are some of the hits that Laura Leon is known for, the crowd should be in store for even more songs off of all her albums, especially her new one-“Lo Nuevo”. To Laura Leon being an artist means that her fans are entertained when attending her shows, it means that she puts her all into her performances and that being on the stage is what she was meant for. With her long list of credits and with nothing holding her back in the future Laura Leon is a star that we are happy will make her 1st appearance in Atlanta, Ga to give The Chaparral a wonderful and tantalizing show. Her albums include: Laura Leon in 1998, Ritmo Ardiente in 1984, her last one before the break was Mi Tesoro Eres Tú in 2000 and her most recent is Lo Nuevo.

THE TING TINGS

Tuesday October 12, 2010 sees the release of the brand new single “Hands” from The Ting Tings. A work of pure electro-disco heaven, “Hands” is a global shout out to everyone who’s working too hard. Written, performed and produced by Jules and Katie in their home made studio in Berlin, it has been mixed by label mate Calvin Harris. The Ting Tings launched themselves into the world with their DIY hardcore-pop in 2008 to massive acclaim and success, with their hit singles “That’s Not My Name” and “Shut Up And Let Me Go” along with “Great DJ” selling over 4 million copies worldwide. With their music becoming the soundtrack not only on the radio but also to countless shows and films from “Slumdog 60 davidatlanta

Millionaire” to the likes of “Gossip Girl”, The Ting Tings debut album “We Started Nothing” went on to selling over two million copies. They also won the prestigious Ivor Novello Award for “Best Album” in 2009 and received a Grammy Nomination for “Best New Artist”. After a whirlwind of touring live in the US, Europe and almost everywhere else non-stop for the last two years, The Ting Tings chose to move to Berlin to live and work. Renting out a disused basement jazz club in East Berlin’s Freidrichshain

District, they turned it into their own studio, much as they had done back in 2007 when they took up residence in the artist’s haven The Islington Mill in Salford, near Manchester where “We Started Nothing” was made. Spending the winter of 2009 with their music equipment, fairy-lights, pens and gaffer tape and with no TV, no visiting friends, no distractions at all, they wrote, recorded and produced their next album. “Hands” is the first track to come from those sessions.

“Our time in Berlin was a fresh start, with no rules again” explains Jules, “when you’ve had an album that’s been successful, the danger is you go back in the studio, look back and try and emulate it”. “it’d be so lazy and easy to make the same album twice” adds Katie. A blast of the dancefloor monster “Hands” shows they mean what they say - a totally brand new sound from The Ting Tings and an exciting taste of things to come. Fans can listen to “Hands” by visiting The Ting Tings’ Facebook page (www.facebook.com/ thetingtings). A remix of “Hands” will also be available as an mp3 download.

s i R Luke went through a couple of bizarre ‘episodes’ in the past few weeks and his best friend, Gregory, the Geology student from UGA, came into town from Athens to cheer him up. Gregory took Luke to Blake’s on the Park on Sunday to see the Armorettes. Gregory liked the Armorette’s; their show was irreverent and humorous and, also, he liked to go to Blake’s as it had been voted ‘the best place in Atlanta to meet men.’ When Gregory brought Luke to Blake’s, Luke asked, “What the hell are we doing here?” “Let me get you some rum.” Gregory led Luke to the bar in the very front there, “You always feel better after you’ve swallowed something down into your throat.” Luke shielded his eyes from the lights that shined down upon them as Gregory dragged him diagonally across the floor. Neither Luke nor Gregory had paid any attention to the blonde drag queen holding court in the center of a vast, open expanse surrounded by men buzzed tipsy with mint-hinted libations. “Um… hello, yes; excuse me!” The blonde drag queen came over and tapped Luke sternly on his shoulder, “I guess you wasn’t raised in the South, ‘cause if you were, you would know that was rude!” Luke gazed up at the leggy, faux-blonde like a deer in headlights, “Huh?” The blonde drag queen put her hands on her hips and looked down at Luke, she said, “Now 66 davidatlanta

e R r fo give me some money, you Yankee son of a bitch!” “Oh no, unh-unh,” Luke shook his head, “I ain’t no damn Yankee! Who the hell are you to call me such a thing?” “I’m Lucy Bowels,” said the leggy, faux-blonde. “Don’t tell me you don’t know who I am, you Yankee son of a bitch.” Lucy Bowels held a microphone in her hand. She shoved the microphone into Luke’s face and said, “What do you have to say about that?” Luke looked around the bar; there wasn’t just one drag queen but many drag queens. Luke was confused; he was slow on the uptake and he asked, “Who are you people?” “We are the Armorettes, the infamous Camp Drag Queens of the South!” Gregory came back from the bar and handed Luke a tall glass filled with gin, “We ain’t been here five minutes and already you’ve gone and pissed off one of the drag queens?” Luke enjoyed drag queens and he liked the Armorettes. The Armorettes are indeed a legacy of service. All performers in the show are volunteers that donate all their tips and, in their thirty-one year history, the Armorettes have raised close to two million dollars to the PWA fund and to Atlanta area AID Service Organizations. Despite the festivities of the Armorettes, Luke remained melancholy. He sat at the bar and

n o i t c e ej drank a lot and all but ignored the drag show. Knomie Moore, the Trailer Park Princess of the Armorettes, had big fake tits made of inflatable baloons. Knomie Moore saw Luke’s sad face and then she declined to leave him alone. She wanted to make a scene and she rounded up all the other ‘girls’ and together they asked Luke, “Honey you just look pitiful, downright sad and pitiful. What is wrong with you? Did you just get dumped by a rich and powerful boyfriend?” Amber Devine wore a gaudy flower in her hair and clutched at the pearls of her costume jewelry; she said, “Rejection can be so hard.” “I wasn’t rejected.” Luke said, “He drugged me and kidnapped and took me back to his place where he stripped me naked and taped me to a toilet.” “Then you should stop your complaining bitch!” Knomie Moore poked Luke, “Most of the queens in this bar would pay to have that done to them. Now grab a drink for therapy and put a dollar in the bucket!” “Drugging and kidnapping; that is unusual, even for Atlanta, but I can’t be held responsible for the actions of my sistah’, Sofonda Cocks. That girl,” Trashetta Galore shook her head, “she got needs that must be met! “Leave the white kid alone, Trashetta. You know he don’t want you!” A hairy-chested drag queen cozied up next to Luke and, with a voice husky with musk, she said, “My name is Sofonda Cox and this man that drugged you

and kidnapped and stripped you naked to tape you to a toilet; did he take you out to dinner first?” “No,” Luke drank his gin fast and quick, “there wasn’t any food involved in any way.” “Oh sweet Jesus!” Sofonda Cox said, “You need to find yourself a new boyfriend.” Amber Devine wore a gaudy flower in her hair and clutched at the pearls of her costume jewelry; she said, “Rejection can be so hard.” “Oh hon, you have suffered so. But at least you got a date, right?” Ginger Vitas stroked Luke’s cheek; his ass-cheek, “Here; take two of these pills. You’ll feel better after that, precious.” Ginger Vitas dropped two pink and blue pills into the muscular, manly hands of our hapless hero Luke. “What are these?” Luke asked, “What kind of pills are these?” Gregory looked over Luke’s shoulder and said, “They look like tranquilizers to me.” “Tranquilizers,” Luke shook his head, “I’ve never taken those before. I don’t know if I should.” “I’ll take ‘em.” Gregory drank beer from a bottle, “Give ‘em to me and I’ll take them. I swear I’ll swallow them right here, right now.” “Oh please, Gregory,” Luke gave his best friend the pink and blue pills, “you’ll swallow anything.”

Stay busy this week — not that it’s all that hard for you. Your energy should keep pushing you forward past all obstacles until you reach a goal or milestone that feels satisfying to you. Shop around a little — you can afford to take your time. It’s quite likely that someone close is breathing down your neck, though, so try to get them to back off in the gentlest way possible. Your most fervent desires are on the table this week, and you can see that those around you are ready to help. Ask for whatever you need, and while you can’t have everything, you should be quite satisfied in the end. You may be feeling extra resentment toward a boss, client or political figure this week — so do something! Try not to make things any worse for yourself, but if you can make a case, you need to do so. Someone new changes your mind about an important issue, so make sure that you’re listening and can adapt when needed. You may find yourself moving in a different direction later this week. Your mood can’t be beaten down, no matter how much others seem to try to do just that. They aren’t actually working against you, though — they’re just selfishly pursuing their own agendas. Your career is quite important lately, though you may not realize what’s going on until it’s over. Your way with people is vital, so keep letting the right people know how important they are to you. Have you been wanting to start hitting the gym more frequently, or just biking, running or walking more? Now is the time to get started — your energy is perfect for creating self-discipline. Your energy is quite active this week — so much so that you might spook someone! That’s okay, actually, as they might need to be prodded out of their rut anyway, and you certainly mean no harm. Try not to worry too much about this week’s stressful news — though your mood is predisposed to concern. You should see quite soon that things aren’t nearly as bad as you fear. You can’t help but involve yourself in this week’s big business. If someone needs help, you are there for them no matter what — though it might come at some cost to your own work or personal life. Someone is hiding just out of sight in your social circle, and you would do well to ferret them out — they might have info or resources you can use. It could also turn into a love connection!

Pop Culture

SHOCK POP

The Rise of the Wild Child Popper By Will Baker

76 davidatlanta

Madonna ignited shock pop as we know it today when she performed “Like a Virgin” at the 1985 Video Music Awards wearing a combination bustier/wedding gown, and her trademark “Boy Toy” belt. And who can forget 2003 when portraying a groom, she open-mouth kissed her brides, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera? These days, it’s not only Madonna who is using shock to grab attention for her music. Christina raised eyebrows with “Dirty”, followed by Katy Perry who “kissed a girl and liked it”. Today’s leading players of pop – Ke$ha, Adam Lambert, and of course, Gaga - are gaining notoriety by being untamed and unashamed. Now a new crop of young artists are upping the shock ante, doing things never-before-seen in pop music. Is today’s celeb culture teaching fans that it’s weak to be meek? KILLIAN WELLS – Blonde Bi Bombshell Do you see yourself as a shock pop artist? KW: It’s not intentional. I’m simply unwilling to censor myself. Art stops being art when you neuter your creativity. The boy-on-boy kiss in the video has shock value. KW: It’s about time a mainstream artist had the balls to do a boy-on-boy kiss. Has the kiss brought the attention to the video you hoped it would? KW: I find more people are shocked by the drunken vomiting in the video. Artists like George Michael and Ricky Martin hid their sexuality while they were on the top of the charts. Is sexuality more accepted today? KW: There’s still a long way to go but society is definitely more open-minded now. Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert have huge followings. It goes to show that a so-called ‘alternative’ sexual orientation isn’t a deal breaker anymore. Who is your shock-pop idol? KW: Prince because he did it all without fear. Sometimes being too shocking can derail an artist’s career. When Josie Cotton released “Johnny Are You Queer?” in ‘81, she lost her record deal. Do you fear it may be too soon for a guy-on-guy kiss? KW: I was nervous in the beginning but the response has been way positive. I’m working with some major people in the music industry because of the attention from the video. Are you being a good role model for today’s young listeners? KW: I hope I can be a role model for young fans who are afraid to be themselves. However, I wouldn’t encourage young listeners to go get drunk we do in the video. What do you say to parents who might feel your free-forall-sexuality is sending the wrong message to their kids? KW: My bisexuality isn’t promoting promiscuity. I’m actually a monogamous, relationship-oriented person, which is a rarity regardless of sexual orientation. It’s irresponsible for parents to make their kids feel they have to fit a mold to conform to society’s standards. Continued on page 86 77 davidatlanta

The Brent Star Report

Priests, Sex Scandals, Bishops, OH MY! Here we go again…another Pastor/Bishop/ Pope involved in a sex scandal. But what intrigues me the most about the well known Bishop Eddie Long of the 25,000+ member mega church isn’t the fact that the sex scandal is GAY but he is known to be THE most ANTI GAY Pastor in this city, plus he has “CLASSES” to “teach guys to become straight”, AND he’s one of the leaders in ANTI GAY marriages. Now before I go any further, I want to ACKNOWLEGE that it’s ‘alleged’ that he’s been sexually ‘messing around’ with boys (unless the story change by time this comes out). If these allegations aren’t true, however, my heart goes out to the homophobic Pastor because that’s just wrong, but honey child if it IS true then I just have to say to ANYBODY you can’t use God to preach against something that you’re secretly doing yourself. But this ain’t new, remember the big scandal of Jim Bakker? You don’t? Oh child back in the day (in the late 80s, early 90s) this superstar Pastor of the popular and leading Christian TV ministries AND head of a Christian Theme Park (hmmm, I wonder did they have ‘Pearl Day’ at that park…?) confessed of committing adultery (ouch) AND went to prison for money fraud (millions they say). Yes, Bishop Long is at the bottom of a ‘LONG’ list of other scandalous scandals. Oh, and what about the ‘current’ sex scandals that Pope Benedict XVI is dealing with involving priests molesting children-over there somewhere in Scotland child. It reminds me of the old joke of the Pope and the Priest on a sinking ship full of women and children. Once the rescue boats arrives, the Priest says to the Pope “let the children go first”, the Pope says “Fu@k the children” and the Priest says with a blank face, “ I did”. I must remind you though that even though there are quite a few crooked Priests/ Evangelists/and Bishops OH MY, there are still good ones. I love to listen to Bishop T.D. Jakes even though he’s also dealing with bad karma for judging the “gays” and expressing his homophobic views on gay marriages. Yea, get this, his bad karma is his son is not only gay but was arrested for gay lewd conduct (child, whenever you see the word “lewd” in a report, use your imagination!!!) Another one of my favorites whom I love to listen to is the Super Mega 80 davidatlanta

Pastor Joel Osteen of Texas, but he better be careful too because no matter who you are, when you pick with the “gays”, I think karma is on our side simply because they try to make us believe that God hates gays and can’t wait to send us to hell. Hmmm. But wait, doesn’t religion teaches us that God is perfect and purposeful in his creations? Sooooo, he’s surprised that we’re gay and HATES us for it? Maybe I’m just over reacting, but I didn’t create me nor checked the box that said “gay” when he created me. So who did? Okaaaaay now. So, it makes me wonder what’s REALLY the problem. Is it the religion or the leaders that has helped cause so many problems in this world? Yes, I’m bold to make that statement, but think about it…it’s religion that tells us it’s WRONG for man to be with another man along with a preacher enforcing this which domino effects to unnecessary gay bashing, down low men living in fear, a country WASTING TIME arguing over rather or not we should get married…oh, and don’t forget those clowns over there in those middle eastern countries who get excited about strapping a bomb to themselves thinking they’re ‘heroes’. Be aware children’ because once a man believes in something with all his heart, it becomes his dangerous truth. Personally, I believe that the biggest and most important ‘division’ that God sees within the human race is Good vs Bad people. ..everything else isn’t a threat nor a problem with the Almighty. To me, the only ‘rules’ that make sense are the Ten Commandments. Why? Think about it, if you had to sum it up in three words, it would be “respect each other”. That’s all it’s saying, enjoy your unknown time on this earth, but don’t be killing folks, stealing, sleeping with someone ELSE’s man…etc. My final thought, as long as you ain’t hurting nobody, just be yourself. You were created to be YOU for a REASON. Amen. Until next week, don’t read the girls, instead read The Brent Star Report! Where to catch Brent Star: Tuesdays at SHOUT, Saturdays at Tijuana Garage, Thursdays and Sundays once a month at Burkharts an d everywhere else that pays!

Pop Culture CONTINUED

What does your own mom say? KW: My parent’s views used to be very old school but I’ve enlightened them. Is today’s celeb culture teaching fans it’s weak to be meek? KW: It’s not new for celebrities to do things that are seen as taboo. Pop stars can’t be blamed for someone else’s actions; that would be like saying porn stars are responsible for people having sex. Will you continue to push the envelope in your next songs and music videos? KW: Definitely, I’m not holding back. 86 davidatlanta

COURTNEY ACT – Wonder from Down Under Do you see yourself as a shock pop artist? I don’t but I can see how someone from a different walk of life might think I am. Gender bending has a certain shock value. There is something captivating about drag. Are people still surprised to learn you’re a man? Surprised, confused and baffled. I love when a guy is flirting and slowly he starts to see what he is looking at.

The wig lace, the eyebrow plastic, the stubble…? Yes! There is that moment when he’ll look around to see who is watching and then he’ll shrug his shoulders and come home with me. Do you always get the man? Always. Would you have been selected for Australian Idol if you were a real woman? I believe so. Drag aside, I was still delivering a great package. Look, sass, voice, and makeup. Why did you decide to compete as an out artist? I could never deny who I am in order to get ahead in my career. We all dress up and create our selves. As RuPaul says, “You’re born naked and the rest is drag”. Did RuPaul pave the way for other drag artists? There were many before Ru. Danny LaRue, Lilly Savage, Amanda Lear, Pete Burns, Boy George, Priscilla Queen Of The Desert. I suppose once you have a Swarovski like RuPaul, everyone else seems like cut glass. Who is your shock-pop idol? Cher. Anyone who wears Bob Mackie actually. Is America ready for another drag superstar? in Australia, I’m the face of Sheer Cover Mineral Makeup. I’m no Joan of Arc, but it is pretty revolutionary to have a female illusionist selling the illusion of beauty to Aussie females. I hope to have the same success in America. Are you being a good role model for today’s young listeners? Our world is so polarized. Black, white, boy, girl, gay, straight. People look at Courtney and have to reassess what they believe to be true. I am proving that you don’t have to fit into the mould that society has defined. That’s a good thing. What do you say to parents who might not agree with you? Parents should not impose their judgments and conditioning on children. Fill them with joy and let them lead the way. Is today’s celeb culture teaching fans it’s weak to be meek? No, artists are making fans question their beliefs and values and getting them to re-think what is normal. Will you continue to push the envelope in your next songs and music videos? I will continue to be me and if that is pushing someone’s envelope, then I guess I have done my job. CARSTEN ANDERSSON – PopPorn Do you see yourself as a shock pop artist? I probably am. Pretending to be the clean, innocent boy-next-door wouldn’t work for me. I can’t compete with Justin Bieber. Why did you decide to come clean about your porn past? You can’t hide something like porn. It would come eventually. Better to tackle it head-on.

Has it helped bring attention to your singing career? Without my porn past, I’d be just another boy with a song out. Porn has made people take notice. They want to see what this boy can do other than get naked. Artists like George Michael and Ricky Martin hid their sexuality while they were on the top of the charts. Is homo and bisexuality more accepted today? I think there is always going to be some issue with being gay. Not with being gay but with being open with it. Who is your shock-pop idol? Not Lady Gaga. Most things I see from her seem copied from artists of the past. Katy Perry? I don’t like her. I find her boring. What about Madonna? Madonna in her early years: definitely! Madonna today: not really shocking anymore. I like the trashy Europop stars from the 80s that really knew how to shock. Amanda Lear was a transsexual who fooled the world for years that she was a woman. Is America read for a pop-porn star? Paris Hilton built a career out of porn. Other celebrities have followed, pushing their “accidentally lost private porns” on the internet. What do you hope to prove with your song? Honestly? Nothing. The song is called “Fun” and that’s all it is. I did it for fun; no deeper reason. Basically, I had done movies, photos… we thought what comes next? Ok, let’s make a song. Have you retired from films? No. I’m open to doing more. Maybe the big shocking movie is still yet to come. Do you do porn for the money or for fun? It’s not the money. I can think of a thousand better ways to earn cash. Porn is the only job I feel comfortable with. I know my way around the bed, or on the couch, or in the barn (laughs). Do you consider yourself a good role model for today’s young listeners? Hell no. What would happen to the world if young boys took me as a role model? Scary thought. Will you continue to push the envelope with more songs? I never make plans beyond the next 24 hours. I have a real messed-up mind. One day I want this, the other I want that, and finally I end up in Japan shooting a manga porn. 87 davidatlanta

Bitch Session Twinks: skinny, athletic is hot-- sunken-eyed anorexia is not.

Monogamy is monotonous. Need I say more?

There is a reason people refer to you as “sick bastard.” Get a clue.

Yeah, I love butt ugly guys like a root canal. It requires shutting your eyes tightly and bracing for impact.

We exchanged numbers in the bar six months ago. I called you three times and you never retuned the call. So why are you surprised that I deleted you from my phone? Honey, you are NOT all that!

If a friend annoys you more than they amuse you, maybe you really don’t need them as a friend. My profile said VERSATILE. That means it’s either both ways, or no way! I don’t know why everyone hates this city. I love it! So many hot guys willing to put out! After living here for 10 years I can see why people are cruel and shallow; I know I am. Most of you bitches out there who claim to be bisexual are just plain gay. You’re either uncomfortable with your sexuality or afraid to finally just come out of the closet. Please stop blaming others for your inferiority complex or for not being hit on in a bar. It has everything to with that chip on your shoulder, which you so proudly show off. “In the gay world, nine months is practically your silver anniversary!” I know gay and lesbian couples who have been together for more that 10 years, some for twenty years or more. Unlike YOU, there are many people in the gay community who are committed to their relationships. f I have to walk into a tacky, campy bar again, I’ll have no choice but to kill myself. It’s demeaning to the gay scene of taste and style.

To the guy in the locker room who told his friend “I guess I could get a flat stomach, if I was a 26 year old Tina addict.” No, maybe you could get a flat stomach if you put down that jelly donut and go for a run. My six-pack comes from hard work, not a white powder! The numbered athletic shirt is OK-- for high school and college kids. On anyone else, it is a costume and looks stupid. Whether the sex is good or bad random hookups always leave me feeling lonelier that I was before. God doesn’t hate gays. Don’t let the bigots behind organized religion stop you from having a relationship with God. You can have a low libido or strict monogamy-but not both. Just because I am nice and easy going, does not mean I am going to stand there and take crap from you. Don’t be so shocked when someone tells you to get lost.

Why is it that people who complain that bars are full of boring, ugly people assume that they are neither? New to the ATL, not to the gay life. So many lost people trying to find love. Love is a gift not a commodity. Seriously dude, just because there’s room next to me on the bench doesn’t mean I want you sitting there. I also want you looking at what I’m doing on my phone from over my shoulder even less. Can we say boundary issues?
