Essentially Major Seen Twenty-Something
Boys
by Michael Jeffrey
I used to be twenty-two. Twenty-two with twenty something eyes and abdominals, a twentytwo year old metabolism and simple worries like how to fill up my weekends or figuring out the best way to amicably break-up with a boyfriend of two weeks. I would stay out all night, taking shots of tequila, still arriving at work the next morning like I’d had a full eight hours rest. I wrote other peoples term papers to supplement my retail addiction and ate spaghetti every night to keep the grocery bill as low as humanly possible. I loved recklessly. I thought I knew it all. I used to. Now I’m a very different age, on first date number 5,034, and sitting across from Keith, a twenty-two year old. Suddenly I’m wondering how in the hell did the tables turn as fast as they did. As he talks I watch a different world shine brightly in his eyes, one filled with an innocence and excitement that’s been dulled by years of experience in mine. Yet here we are, attracted and interested in each other enough to share a meal and politely flirtatious conversation. He smiles his twenty-something smile and I am in awe of his perfection. If there were not the possibility of seeing him naked at the end of the night, I’d feel tortured every time he licks his lips, instead of melting to my seat the way I do. And, God, I promise that if he wears bikini underwear I’ll consider this an answered prayer and I’ll be the first one in church next Sunday morning. “I don’t know why you keep doing this to yourself,” says Chase when I call to give her the evenings play by play. “Twenty-two is bullshit. I may have been out of the game for awhile, but what happened to dating someone older, with more money, and slightly less attractive to make you feel better about yourself? What happened to that?” “Unless,” I said, pausing as we both came to the same sad and unsettling conclusion. “No way! We’re not old enough yet to be the older, slightly unattractive feel good date, are 14 davidatlanta
we?” Are we? I had to admit that I’d been puzzled right from the start when Keith expressed an interest. Not saying I’m ready to be put out to pasture by any means, but was I truly deserving of twenty-two year old model quality grade-a beef? I wasn’t so sure. Insecurities fully exposed after my talk with Chase, I decide to leave the option for a second encounter in his court. The logic being that if he’s persistent it must be because I am not the feel good date I’ve imagined myself to be, and am actually worthy of this and many more twenty-something indulgences, if I play my cards right. Only he never called. Two weeks past and there wasn’t even any casual texting, just a hollowed silence that confirmed the worst of my fears. My hotness expiration date had come and was apparently long gone. Devastated, I started to walk out into moving traffic but decided to take myself shopping instead. And that’s where I bumped into him, perfect twenty-two year old Keith, stepping out of the dressing room at Sisley, shirtless, and pants just low enough for me to see the bikini underwear I’d never gotten to experience firsthand. By his paralyzed expression he was surprised to see me too. I was just about to break our two week old silence when I heard someone say, “Keith if you don’t get out here right now!” It was an older woman, much too old to be a girlfriend. “Son, we’re never going to get you something in time for prom if you don’t find it soon.” His face crumpled and suddenly it was all clear. The innocence in twenty-two year old Keith’s eyes was because he was actually teenage Keith, still shopping with his mommy for the senior formal. Stunned, I just smiled and quickly made my way to the exit, feeling better already, knowing that my expiration date may not have been the biggest barrier between us after all.

I
t’s been a long, winding road to the top for the spunky Young, who launched her career in 1991 as hip-hop radio DJ. “I love all kinds of music,” the spinstress states. She headlines the Thanksgiving Eve party at Jungle on Wednesday, November 24th. “Growing up in a divorced household, I
A
t the time, Young had no idea of the heights to which she would rise. “If you told me ten years later I’d be DJ-ing Madonna’s wedding, I’d say you were crazy!” she laughs. But even from its earliest stages, Young’s musical prowess made people take notice, and it wasn’t long before she translated her work at Interscope Records to a thriving career in the DJ booth that allowed her to bring her one-of-a-kind funk, hip-hop and old-school blend of beats to the masses on eastern corridor airwaves and cable television. But soon the sun-drenched shores of Miami came calling, and with her move came a shift in sound that saw Young injecting her hip-hop roots with the house music thump that emanated from the steamy, celebrityfilled nightclubs that comprised the South Beach scene. Miami was where Young carved a niche for herself, both as a female in the traditionally male-dominated stomping grounds of the DJ booth, and as a darling of the thriving gay circuit party scene. But it wasn’t just the gay community that was drawn by Young’s magnetic musical pull; celebrities from Cher to Sean Combs fell under her spell. Once Madonna coroneted her as her go-to DJ in 2000, Young became a global electronic music celebrity in demand at nightclubs around the world and a breakout name on the Billboard charts racking up over 40 #1 Club Play hits with remixes for Christina Aguilera, Shakira, and Enrique Iglesias. 13 of the #1s were Madonna tracks including “Music” and “Hung Up”. Living Theater, Young’s 2003 release of unique remixes, garnered critical acclaim while showing that Young’s talent in the studio went beyond lastcall of nightclub dance floors. “I like doing different types of events and music,” Young says. “Fashion, television, radio—and, of course, clubs. I never limit myself to just one type of party; I like doing different types of events. It keeps my career fresh.” Through it all, Young has always been humble, focusing on her career and the ever-growing roster of releases on her Ferosh record label rather than her own burgeoning celebrity. So when the mainstream media took notice of Young’s ill-fated romantic relationship with Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kim Zolciak, Young found herself in an unexpected spotlight, bandied about
“Music has always been the foundation of my work,” she says with a shrug to the drama. “I’m really proud of the work I did on Kim’s single ‘Tardy for the Party,’ and I wish her well in the in gossip magazines and even during the morning coffee klatch of The View. “Music has always been the foundation of my work,” she says with a shrug to the drama. “I’m really proud of the work I did on Kim’s single ‘Tardy for the Party,’ and I wish her well in the future.” The housewife’s life isn’t for Young—it never has been. She says that despite rumors, her new track out now, “What’s Done is Done”, was not inspired by Zolciak. “It’s actually a track Ceevox and I collaborated on three years ago that was never released so I thought now was a good time.” She admits, however, that it’s sometimes funny how art imitates life. Young has a lot to be thankful for this holiday season. “I’m thankful that I love what I do for a living and that I’m able to express myself through my craft. Everybody has a party within themselves and we all choose to express our inner party in our own way. “I do it through music.” Tracy Young spins Jungle on Wednesday, November 24th.

Ask Momma Mona Momma Mona must have hit a hot button regarding the question of whether to be “out” at work. Coming out in a toxic environment is like working for a fundamental Christian organization and being atheist. People tend to get angry if you do not adhere to their belief system and that’s when subtle or overt discrimination starts taking over. Workplace bullying is yet another grey area where a supervisor torments a particular employee or even the whole department. If there are not company policies or laws to protect, then it is an uphill battle that may be won, or maybe not. Here’s a few of the responses. What do YOU think?
Coming Out at Work,
advice this time on “biting your tongue” about being gay, this is the reality of the situation especially in certain industries. When I was at another job a few years ago, my manager wasn’t sure if I was gay and would ask questions about if I had a hot date for the weekend or if I planned to marry anytime soon. I finally got tired of the whole charade and found another job where I knew it was OK to be gay. I’m not sure if it would have made a difference in how I was treated, but I did not feel comfortable or safe about keeping that job. Better to have a job than unemployed and looking. ~ Be Strategic: I did not like reading your advice on not being out at work, but I, in fact, followed that strategy and did not conservatively come out to my work colleagues until I hit upper management. Now, I have the power to make a difference from the top. Conclusion – still sound advice Momma Mona for certain industries and companies. However, now that there are many national and international companies where it is not an issue, simply do your home work and pursue the “open” companies. ~ Thanks,…Kind of: A friend showed me your advice on being out at work and while I hate it, it is soooooo true! I stand out as the only “nonhetero” (love your terminology!) in my department of 15 employees. While no one actually says or does anything against me, I notice how people cut their eyes and almost prefer not to look at me straight on, except for this one guy asshole who almost seems like he is mocking me, the way I dress, my short hair, whatever. While I don’t care to be included in the water cooler conversations, it just feels awkward to have only limited “how’s the weather” type conversations with many of my co-workers. I would say that I’m OK with the situation maybe 90% of the time, but it sure would be

~ Proud to be Gay: I am totally against your advice to not be out at work! If I’m doing my job well and I get fired, I will sue their a—es to the nth degree and shout it out to the media! What the h--- difference does it make if I’m gay?! This is like the military’s don’t ask-don’t tell policy. Absolutely ridiculous. ~ Double Issues: Hey, try being gay AND Black! ~ Stuck in Night Management: I agree that the workplace can be a really difficult place to be open and out, especially when you know upper management has homophobic issues. It can be like the glass ceiling females sometimes still experience in corporate America. I’m not sure if I’m being discriminated against even though I am thoughtfully conservative at work regarding my private life because I have not moved from my night management position at a major hotel in 12 years. My direct manager knows I’m gay and has even said that is not an issue for him. He has always praised my work and says he feels better knowing that I cover the nights. But, 12 years is a long time. ~ It’s The Company’s Loss, Not Mine: When I was younger, I tried the secrecy thing at work for about two minutes. It did not work for me. Either I’m accepted for who I am or I make the decision to not bless a company with my education, talent, skills and work ethic. I am damn good at what I do and I am an asset to whatever company I decide to represent. ~ Getting It: This was only a few years back, but a manager that did not know I was gay commented to me that our store needed to be more aware of who we hire because certain populations are prone to being late. This was after a very “out” employee was late to work. ~ Safety First: While I don’t particularly like your

The Brent Star Report Phoenix
I was a little nervous walking into the X Mansion even though I obediently wore the invisible cloak that was secretly shipped to me. (I’m like, damn, all this just to have an interview with her!) I didn’t see Professor Xavier, however, one of the students, I think his name was Alonso McNamara, showed me into the lab to speak with the edgiest entertainer in town, her name is PHOENIX! My mission today is to go back, and learn of her past. Let’s go.
Brent: What was it that first made you decide to do drag? Phoenix: You remember Christian? (yes I do remember HIM! He’s a cutie pie) Well, he’s the one who practically pushed me into it…plus, I’ve always been into theatre and dance since high school. Back then I used to sneak into clubs to see the shows like at the Metro (a cute club back in the day yall) and I LOVED to see Blakes’ then popular Wednesday show, the Lust and the Bust Show (Phoenix recently produced her own show on Wednesdays herself, at The Jungle) and Christian was like “you should do it, you should totally do it”. Then one day I just started dressing up, doing little contests…and Nicole Paige Brooks got a hold of me and showed me the ropes Brent: What do you mean she showed you the ropes? Phoenix: Yea, I owe Nicole a lot of gratitude because she came to me back when I didn’t look so hot. You know, you don’t always start out looking right! Well after she saw me perform Cher’s STRONG ENOUGH, she was like “there’s something there”. She pulled me in and showed me the way, helped me make costumes, and help create my image…or the image I HAD. It’s changed so much since then. I wasn’t always “edgy”. Then, I went more for really, really fishy/girlie/frenzy costumed girl. I guess I live up to my name, Phoenix. With the Phoenix, it’s all about recreating yourself and always coming out with something different and I think that carries on into my drag. I get bored really fast, and if I’m bored my audience gets bored. Before I even step out on the stage I want ppl to be like what is this bitch about to do NEXT! And if you’re always thinking that way about someone, I think that’s a good entertainer. Brent: What was your day job? Phoenix: When I first started, Christian and I were servers at a restaurant (she didn’t say WHICH restaurant, and I didn’t bother asking her child), but my very last day job was when I did sales for Earthlink. So for the last six or seven years I’ve been doing drag full time. (She told me in the dressing room of SHOUT-were we do out Tuesday show-- that she’s been doing drag for 10 years). 38 davidatlanta
Brent: Who was your influence back then? Phoenix: I really looked up to (and still do) the drag diva herself, Ms. Shawnna Brooks. Back then I used to sneak in at Blakes, Metro, Backstreets and wherever else she was, to watch and be in awe. And then there was a big circuit queen I got into named MOTION. I would be at the old club, Ground Zero and just seeing her walk in with her boys…she was like a DIVA, like amazing. The circuit scene back then was very popular and it would be like hundreds of people in there ran by this one queen (Phoenix is now the diva of The Jungle on Fridays and Saturdays). Brent: So now we know how you got into it, what made you decide to STAY in it? Phoenix: I really never made that conscious choice everything just started happening so fast. I was given the opportunity to perform a lot. I remember one night at Backstreet, I went up to tip Shawnna Brooks and as she leaned over to grabbed the money, she whispered in my ear, “Charlie wants to see you” and I was like terrified b/c Charlie Brown was THE deal and STILL IS the deal! And from there I started working even more then at some point I started to realize I really enjoy this. Brent: Congrats on your recent spot on the 3rd RUPAUL DRAG RACES! I’m gonna have to do a part two of this interview once that show starts. So what advice would you give the new kids? Phoenix: Watch your attitude! Don’t get into this business like you’re owed something. Pay your dues and pay your respects just like all of us. Your ‘attitude’ can cost you a job. TRUST. And on THAT note, Until next week, don’t read the girls, instead read The Brent Star Report! (... now WHERE is Wolverine?) Where to catch Brent Star: Tuesdays at SHOUT, Saturdays at Tijuana Garage, Thursdays and Sundays once a month at Burkharts and everywhere else that pays!

A letter for Atlanta from D.J.
F
Sin Morena
irst off, a big thank you!! Well after living in Atlanta, for a year, i had to come back to my roots, for allot of personal reasons, that will be discussed on xm satellite radio, and an interview with out magazine, we will call it “The Fall and Rise” of Sin Morena itd wake some people up, am not just a DJ, am a human being with feelings, but tho Atlanta was and is an amazing city, i got caught up with bullshit here, with drugs, and drama, and a broken relationship. so i decided to return to my roots, and come home too new york city, i left Atlanta for one reason only and i wanna set the record straight, for my career, i didn’t leave Atlanta for any other reason, “other then my career” i was not moving forward here ,i wasn’t growing here as an artist, and became emotionally crippled, and became dark.not because of anyone, but because i made wrong decisions... I am not here blaming anyone, I will man up as an artist and speak the truth... but thats whole another story.... I will return to atl when am ready, and move there this time for me... I have made some really cool, amazing Friends here in Atlanta who keep in touch with me everyday.... and tell me how much they miss me, i love Atlanta, and am a little upset at myself because i truly never gave the city a chance, but i will return someday.. I am so excited to be living in new york again, but more importantly am so excited to be spinning in Atlanta and playing @ my home the heretic, and playing all these new records i have, that record companies and labels have sent me, that i haven’t heard in a year, because my focus was on the dark side, there’s so much great music out there, and i have a ton to share with my peeps in Atlanta, this will be my comeback set, before i leave to Costa Rica for work, am working on a major project in Costa Rica, through the winter, and all my bookings will kick off in jan... but i will be in Costa Rica till march so from here i go straight to Central America for work, its pretty big, and am excited like a child in a candy store... some of the guys here in Atlanta are coming to visit me, my friends and family members, like Alan and Ray from the heretic, they are my god parents...;)
What do i have in store??? Well I am working on my first album and the name of my album will be “Colorblind” my first single will be a song i wrote and produced, with my music partner Elden Russo, from new jersey, its a very strong song, and very cinematic, it’s called “My Heartbeat” i wrote about my experience, i think allot of people will feel the song, its definitely a hit record, i will premiere it on wed @ the heretic it will be a very big summer record for 2011, am working on mixes from Junior Vasquez, roger Sanchez, and i might ask Frankie knuckles, well see, my website is up and running, but will also be launched in 2011 its gonna look very nice, with tons of cool stuff, my web guy lives in Atlanta, so while am here i will be working on my website as well with him,he is cute by the way...and talented! I have been on the phone everyday, with a bunch of new talented producers i have taken under my wing, there all about 20 years old, i love it... new blood, i was working for home depot when i lived in Atlanta, and we went our separate ways, so i can kick ass again, a shout to mike corlette a great boss... and the amazing support am still getting from atlanta.... i have been on the phone with junior Vasquez, Frankie knuckles, Quentin Harris, dj abel, Shep pettibone, clubs from all over the world, am working my little butt off again, and getting my bookings back.... i feel great!! i feel joy again, am shining again, there’s a spark in my eye again, am laughing again, and am doing what i love to do.. music!!!! I am a blessed man...
I left the darkness behind, life is to short, and am too short ;) and people don’t change unless they want to change, like myself, i want to be a better man, and am working on this, its an everyday process, its like going to the gym..... one thing i can say i feel free... you will hear it on wed @ the heretic! HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE HERE IN ATLANTA.... AND MY GRANDMOTHER UP ABOVE!!!! THIS ONES FOR YOU GRANMA!! your “lil dennis” AKA SIN MORERA www.sinmorera.com 49 davidatlanta

Atlanta A-Z
by David C. Muller
EPISODE TWENTY-THREE:
Y is for
‘Yes, Sir” Once upon a time Luke went to a palm reader in Gwinnett County. The palm reader told him, “You must move to Atlanta, Luke, for you will find love there.”
In honor of the 235 year history of the United States Marine Corps, Jack found himself drinking Courvoisier at a belated birthday party in the barracks of an undisclosed American military base somewhere in the Southeastern sector of the continental United States. Luke did not want to remember what he had done to gain entry into the armed facility, he’d been trying to drink away that memory since four o’clock and now, six hours later and with uniformed men somehow magically out of uniform, Jack was uninhibitedly dirty dancing with an African-American Lance Corporal dressed in a hula skirt. Jack and the Lance Corporal danced the ‘Macarena’; they tripped the Light Fandango and touched each other inappropriately. Jack drank more vodka and, ten minutes after the start of “Chelsea Lately” on E! at eleven o’clock, Jack passed out on the tiled floor of a community mess hall… Jack dreamed a dream that he was a young, fresh-out-of-high-school, Marine Corps private dressed in camouflage but without insignia. In this dream Jack stood before a military tribunal where lawyers from both the Army and the Air Force questioned him about his recent bizarre and unusual antics: “Will you state for the record your name?” The lawyers spoke from either side of the dream, “Will you confirm or deny that this is you or that this is not you?” They produced a giant, life-size, color photograph of Luke naked, circa 1991. “Have you or have you not been posing nude since the age of five?” Luke was shocked and embarrassed, “How the hell did you get that picture?” “It’s a dream, Luke,” he started to hear voices, “and you’re on trial!” Luke gasped, “I am!” 56 davidatlanta
The lawyer from the Air Force had red hair, he said, “Luke, you have been accused of a tarnished record. You’ve been accused of arson. You’ve been accused of sky piracy and several other litigable offenses!” “Name three more,” Luke was incredulous, “I dare you.” “Entrapment,” said the lawyer supplied by the Army, “espionage, slander, light treason and, worst of all,” he glared at Luke, “murder!” “Murder!?” Luke shook his head, “What the hell is this, some sort of Franz Kafka rip-off? You call this original? Who is writing this crap?” The lawyers carried on without skipping a beat, “Did you, at anytime, have any injurious connections with agents or subsidiaries of a North Korean nature?” Luke flinched, “No, of course not.” “What about with the Iranians?” The lawyers asked him, “Have you been touched by them?” “No.” “The Russians?” Luke shook his head, “Unh-unh.” “The Chinese?” “Never.” “The Israelis?” Luke made a face, “The who?” “The Pakistanis?” Luke furrowed his brow, “Where’s that?” “Have you now, or at any other time in your life, bought poppers at a commercial
establishment that distributes both pornography and glossy posters of Justin Bieber?” “Who hasn’t?” The judge glared down at Luke; he wore a black robe and a white wig of hair on his head that made him look like George Washington. The judge sneered, “The correct answer is ‘Yes, sir!’ You got that, Luke?” Luke rolled his eyes, “Yes, sir.” “Riddle me this, Luke,” they asked him: “Why is a raven like a writing desk?” “And now you’re quoting Lewis Carroll? Oh please,” Luke jeered at this wacky, kangaroo court. “The answer is simple: because Poe wrote on both. Now how’s that for a literary reference?” In Luke’s dream there was a peanut gallery; a balcony of theatre seating filled to capacity with past characters such as Attitude, the Boy from ‘Bama, Chris, Danny, Edward/Enigma, that French guy, Gregory, Vesuvius St. Rene, that palm reader in Gwinnett County and, of course, Mr. Pencil. The mezzanine was jam packed with future characters such as Luke’s mother Zelda, and those lesbians Shaquifa, Natalie and Heidi. All of them began to snicker and sneer; they applauded Luke yet chastised the prosecution. “Damn you, Luke!” The judge wrapped his gavel and called for order, “You keep this up and I’ll have them take you out back to the duck pond. They’ll tie you down and water-board you. Is that what you want, Luke; is that what you want?” Luke provided the correct answer, he said, “Yes, sir.” “That’s it boys,” the judge handed down his sentence, “Take him out back and show him who’s the boss!” They didn’t really take Luke out back to the duck pond and slap him in the face again and again. They didn’t water-board him and Luke didn’t keep on saying “Yes, sir, yes, sir,” over and over again but, finally, he did wake up. Luke came out of drunken coma and opened his eyes to the vision of the aforementioned AfricanAmerican Lance Corporal in the hula skirt slapping him in the face. The Lance Corporal asked him, “Do you need another drink? Do you? Do you?” Luke nodded, he said, “Yes, sir.” And then they brought Luke another drink… Tune in next week for EPISODE TWENTY-FOUR: “Z is for Zelda – the Thanksgiving special”

Horoscopes
ARIES Big, new ideas are easier to push right now, so dig deeply and see what you can come up with. You may find that your good energy is right for getting your people moving in a new direction.
SAGITTARIUS It’s a week that is powered by creativity, and you should be able to make the most of it. Shake things up at work, try an artistic activity at home or find a way to meet people that works in a new way..
TAURUS It’s your job to preserve and defend the status quo, and it’s definitely under assault. Some change is great, but you can see that now is not the time to shake things up. Let folks know they need to wait.
CAPRICORN This week’s plans are troubled by some unexpected events, but you shouldn’t walk away just yet. See if you can get your people to help out when you feel the need to adjust or make others share the load.
GEMINI Your great social energy is compelling you to travel -- or at least think about traveling. If you can hit the road right away, you should have a great trip, but if not, you should at least find good deals.
AQUARIUS Your ambitious side is out in force right now, and it could be that you need to deal with your colleagues in a way that lets them know you value them even as you make your goals as plain as can be.
CANCER People don’t respond as well to emotional appeals as they used to, so you might feel like you’re fighting with one arm tied behind your back. You can use your left brain to score some impressive victories, though!
PISCES Your wisdom is even more appreciated than usual for now, so make sure that you’re sharing it with the right people. It’s a good time for you to step up and ensure that you’re speaking truth to power, too.
LEO It’s all about letting go for now, hard as that may be. Almost anything that feels comfortable could be the one that has to go, so be as ruthless as you can with yourself until you’re back in motion. VIRGO You need to try new things now, even if your routines are comfortable -especially if they are, actually! Try to push forward and get your people to see how it has to be in the short term. LIBRA You’re a creative powerhouse lately, so see if you can get your people to hear you out as you spin one amazing idea after another. You may also feel artistically inclined, so it’s a good time to redesign. SCORPIO You need radical change, and it should be coming soon. In fact, your recent actions might have unintended consequences that make life really strange and interesting. Expect a wild ride!

n case you haven’t heard, local drag icon Alexandria Martin is leaving Atlanta. Her final performance will be on Tuesday Nov. 23 at her “home” for many years, Blakes On the Park. Martin will then spend Thanksgiving in town before driving to Kansas the next day with her sister and her dog, Molly. “For the most part I’m very happy, but it comes and goes,” said Martin regarding her decision to move to Kansas. “Of course I’m going to be a little sad. I’m leaving 13 years of my life behind. It’s a huge sacrifice.” For her final show, she plans to go out with a
bang with special guests Kitty LeClaw, Lena Lust, Nishelle Paris Destiny Brooks, The Lady Shabazz, and Charlie Brown. “I might even have another surprise blast from the past,” hinted Martin. Martin is moving back home to be with her family. “After 20 years of doing drag, I just think it’s time for a break,” said Martin, “and I want to enjoy being with my family and enjoy the golden years. That’s where my heart is right now, and my body needs to be there, too.” Martin admits that doing drag for so long has taken its toll physically on

Ask Momma Mona Dear Momma Mona, What’s the word out there about coming out at work? While I’m pretty open about my social life, I’ve found that I automatically shut it down at work and actively avoid talking about my plans for the weekend and especially any reference to dating or if I happen to have a boyfriend for awhile. Timid at Work
Hey Momma Mona, Just a quick thank you about your column and writings. The one you shared about your mother’s death gave a little more insight into who you are. I read your underlying pain even though you were a bit cavalier about it. I wish you well in your endeavors to “release” as much pain as possible. I especially liked your response to the guy asking about his “ball sacks.” Your initial response of “How yuck!” was playful and funny and true. But I most liked the research you did and the fact that you gave website links for more information. The writings from the two Vietnam Vets took me back to that time, but I was only in high school then and not out. I had never really thought about what it was like for gays in the military at that time in history. And, I DID rent the movie “The 60s” and it did give a flavor of that decade, although the gay population was totally left out. Can’t say I actually enjoyed reading about others hardships with coming out, but I certainly do relate. And, you are right. If these experiences are not shared, it is like they never happened. Others do need to know. So, thank you for being that medium for at least putting it out there by way of your Momma Mona column. Thank you, Robert

Dear Timid at Work, Divulging your sexual orientation at work sometimes can be a double-edged sword in that you may face problems if you don’t and problems if you do. In Griffith and Hebl’s 2002 article The Disclosure Dilemma for Gay Men and Lesbians: “Coming Out” at Work (Journal of Applied Psychology, 87(6), 1191-1199), if you don’t come out, you may risk lower levels of psychological well-being, increased health risks, less life satisfaction, and you’ll extend energy trying to cover up a stigmatized identity. If you do come out, you may risk discrimination. The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (http://www.thetaskforce.org/) is a good site to explore because they have a Research and Reports page that covers a whole slew of topics. Do some exploring with your company, too. Over half of Fortune 1000 companies now offer sexual orientation as part of their diversity training and include sexual orientation as a protected class. If your company has training and policies supporting non-heteros, then you may feel more comfortable divulging bits and pieces about yourself. If not, then Momma Mona says “bite your tongue while at work!” Until legislation is passed to protect LGBT’s in the workplace, it is best to play the double personality game while at work. My Best, Momma Mona
If anyone has a story about workplace discrimination, please write in and share! I’m working on my PhD on non-hetero diversity and inclusion in the workplace and would love some current feedback from the David Atlanta readership! Momma Mona

Bitch Session Tone deaf lesbians + karaoke = bad times. Stuff a carpet in it. Why don’t you have a beer or something? My bartender brought me a drink WHILE I was singing. Does that make me an alcoholic? What happened to the ad for Ryals Concrete? That guy was so hot it made me want to get concrete poured in my living room! I wonder what PRIDE is like in a city where everyone actually gets a long and respects one another. Bitterness over “pretty boys and old men couples?” Your shallow light is blinking. What does it mean if my girlfriend makes it into Bitch Session AT LEAST once per week? If the first few words out of your mouth are “Don`t worry, I`m not a creeper.” Guess what? YOU`RE A CREEPER. If you’re going to give me rug-burn, at least give me sex! Why is it that when you’re with a guy, they act standoffish towards u, acting like they hate u but wen u break up, they fall in love all over again??
Make some compromises or die Alone. “Mr. Perfect” doesn’t exist.
White gay men are just plain bitter and jaded, and should not be allowed to bitch! Swallow your own poison or learn to enjoy the rainbow, bitches! ummm... Only white gay men? I am currently OTP-TPT, (outside the perimetertrailer park trash,) but will soon be ITP-HRT, (inside the perimeter- high rise trash.) Your boyfriend is fat and so are you. I can see that the love you share is for food.
Listen bitch, you need to save your rudeness until I’m done making your coffee. As it stands I’ve been giving your ass decaf every morning for years! When I lived in South Beach, everyone always loved the men from Atlanta-they were so nice. I live here now, so where are all of them now? In south beach. What does it mean if my girlfriend makes it into Bitch Session AT LEAST once per week? Give me bitchy looks all you want. I sing better than you AND I don’t have a Kate Gosselin haircut.
“Can I staple your ass shut?” “Only if I can staple your mouth shut.” “Deal, You use your ass more than I use my mouth!”
Don’t mistake having no friends for being better than everyone.
You do not have a heavy pre-cum, you are premature ejaculator- you stupid bitch! How is it that grown adult men are so clueless about the basic terminology and in and outs of sex?
To all of you who love to submit bitches concerning the grammar and spelling inside the Bitch Session-
Ummm, actually- There are some of us that have heavy pre-cum, but if the stupid bitch your talking about is really a premature ejaculator, who cares? As long as they don’t role over and start snoring on you or something.
We copy and paste them directly from your text messages, into the magazvine.
