Superman: Gravity Superman is always diving and flying around buildings. Explore gravity, space, and time as demonstrated in this video by How Stuff Works. Wednesday Storm: Lightning Invite the local weatherman to talk about lightning and safety in storms, and do fun experiments to recreate lightning with static electricity.


Thursday

MegaMan: Robotics Many superheroes battle robots or have robotic parts. To learn more about how circuits work, you can make Bristlebots using the kits or DIY directions. You can also have endless amounts of fun with squishy circuits. Kids will enjoy designing their own tin can robot. Find a near by robotics team and allow them to talk and demonstration with more advanced robots. If your community has a similar expert or other resources, invite them to present. The kids will love it!

Programs Offered Live Owls Potion Making Class Ollivander’s Wand Shop Trivia and Sorting


Live Owls Bring two live owls, as well as sample skulls, feathers, and other owl-related information. Patrons got to learn all about barn owls and barred owls!

Potion Making Class Recreating the potions, we can use different juices, water and food coloring. felix felicis or polyjuice potion, and they also got to take them home. Have a teacher stationed to teach different potions that were in the book.


Ollivander’s Wand Shop If we were doing a teen event, I’d let them make these themselves. Hand made wands that a teacher, dressed up as Ollivander can help the student select the wand. In order to get a free one, student must answer one question from the book

Trivia and Sorting The train depot has a separate room where we held sorting and trivia. We decorated the room with “floating candles” which were flameless tea lights with paper taped round them, hung by fishing line. For trivia we had about 75 questions, and only a few of them stumped the audience. If answering a certain question right deteremined which House they would be in

Dr. James Woodward As an Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Composition at Jacksonville State University, composer in residence for the Etowah Youth Orchestra, and award winning author, Dr. James Woodward has written and performed in concerts, films, commissions, and musicals. He was the recipient of the 2012 Alabama Music Teachers Association Composer of the Year, the 2006 BMI Pete Carpenter Film Scoring Fellowship, the 2007 Kappa Kappa Psi Alpha Beta Chapter Commission Competition, a Meet the Composer Grant, and a Fellowship at the Virginia Arts Festival John Duffy Composers Institute. His concert works are published by Daehn Publications, GIA Publications, and Cimarron Music Press.
