a prolific writer, an ardent Bible student, an author and has compassion for the liberation of souls that are yet to know about the faithfulness and goodness of God.

7Benefits of the Spirit of the Lord There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall [c]grow out of his roots. The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. His delight is in the fear of the Lord, And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, Nor decide by the hearing of His ears; Isaiah 11:1-3 Every man has a spirit. We are made of spirit, soul and body. Like 7. The Spirit of the Lord gives you rest from all the battles of life; Father, like son. God has a spirit. John 4:24....”God is spirit, and his Isaiah 63:14...”As the cattle which go down into the valley, The Spirit of the worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

Benefits of carrying the Spirit of God: 1. The spirit of the Lord makes you a freedom fighter; Luke 4:18... “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.”

2. The Spirit of the Lord, when upon you, turns you into a prophet without any ordination ceremony; 1 Samuel 10:6...”The Spirit of the LORD will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person.”

3. The Spirit of the Lord is power tonic; Acts 1:8...”But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

4. The Spirit of the Lord makes you a broadcaster of good news; Isaiah 61:1-3...”The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favour and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion-- to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.”

5. The Spirit of the Lord upon you empowers you to kill every Goliath that confronts you; 1 Samuel 16:13-14...”Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon David from that day forward. And Samuel arose and went to Ramah. Now the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD terrorized him.”

6. The Spirit of the Lord speaks to you when you are His son/ daughter; 1 Kings 22:24...”Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, “How did the Spirit of the LORD pass from me to speak to you?” 2

LORD gave them rest So You led Your people, To make for Yourself a glorious name.”

When the Spirit of the Lord is upon you, you will be hungry to make an impact in the lives of people. And that is ministry. Ministry is when you have passion or hungry about making an impact. I pray this season, the Spirit of the Lord will cone upon you in Jesus name. In this loaded edition of the magazine, there are lots of areas you will be blessed with articles from men and women of God. Our Star Influence for this edition is Angela Ifonlaja, a barrister by profession but also an amazingly anointed gospel singer making raves all over UK and abroad. She is a Pastor, Pastor’s wife and mother. You sure will be blessed by the interview we had with her. We are also excited about taking David’s Camp to Lagos, Nigeria this July. In collaboration with The Lord’s Crew church in Lagos, we are organising a music concert with the aim to use gospel music as a tool to win souls to the kingdom of God. See the flyer for more details.

MENTAL HEALTH

WATCHING MY MOTHER DISAPPEAR BY DR. MARGARET RUTHERFORD

M

y mother, Betty, was a beautiful, talented, smart woman who never believed a word of that. There were various reasons for her disbelief. Some of them, I understood. Some, I didn’t — and never will. At age 35, she searched for help after her first panic attack. She didn’t call it a panic attack. Probably the doctor didn’t either. It was 1960. While quietly attending a ladies church circle meeting, suddenly her heart was pounding. She was perspiring. Her hands grew clammy. The polite, reserved meetings weren’t something she particularly enjoyed, but they were a duty for any proper Southern wife in the 1960’s. After hearing her symptoms, her doctor gave her a sedative, given commonly at that time. Not often to men, but especially to women. He advised her to take it every day. “Nerves,” he called it. And dismissed her. Thus began my mother’s prescription drug addiction. That drug was called Equanil. There were others. Fiorinal. Librium. She used them daily for over 30 years. No doctor ever stopped to try to help her understand the root of her anxiety. They handed her more pills. It’s true that she did not seek therapy. Rather, she ended developing behaviors of an addict, obtaining prescriptions from different pharmacies and different doctors. Underneath her beautifully polished, never-a-hairout-of-place facade, my mother very secretly danced with her own demons. What my mother was trying to handle… all alone… I figured out later, when I entered graduate school (and diagnosed everybody and their dog…including myself by the way…) that my mother experienced multiple levels of anxiety — obsessive compulsive tendencies, horrible worry, and wasn’t a hoarder per se, but certainly was what she would call a “saver.” She would buy multiple products all at once. Hair spray, deodorant. Then line them up in drawers. She’d panic if she didn’t have twin bot4

David’s Camp Magazine

tles of the same medicine (back when the pharmacies allowed you to do that). One, she said, was for home. The other lived in her “travel bag,” although my parents rarely traveled. She would say quite rationally to me, “What if Dad got sick and needed medicine? And the drug store was closed?”

She got off almost all the drugs. leaving only an antidepressant and a very mild, non-addictive anti-anxiety med. It took several months. But she disappeared. Without the mix of sedatives, painkillers, and benzodiazepines, Betty was no longer Betty.

My mother, Betty. Weeks prior to a party, the dining room table would be elegantly set, silver gleaming. She would check and recheck every detail. She would never eat, making sure every guest had all they needed. If someone was sitting alone, she would chat them up to make sure they felt welcome. She would get up hours before everyone, to “put her face on,” as she called it. I don’t think my dad ever saw my mom without makeup. My mom… perhaps the first person I knew with Perfectly Hidden Depression… Funny how that comment is a bit ironic now. For now, I see my mom as perhaps the first perfectly hidden depressed person I knew. The makeup, the hair she wore in the same style for years, her immaculate clothes, her extremely thin waist — all were coverups, masks for tremendous anxiety and insecurity. I never saw tears. I never heard her voice raised in anger. She could be disapproving, yes. But not angry. She was controlled. In her late 60’s, she realized she had a problem. She could no longer metabolize the medication. She was irritable. Acting irrationally. Driving erratically. I remember a long conversation.. She still needed to remind me that everything she’d taken were prescriptions from doctors. There was no pill that could help her now. She’d been trying to wean herself off, and she could barely walk by herself. We were sitting side by side on the love seat in their den, when she decided she would go for help. It was the last time she would seem emotionally present to me ever again.

She was a shell of herself, and had aged 20 years. There was evidence of neurological damage – whether or not that occurred independently of the multiple medications she used, we will never know. For the last fifteen years of her life, she remained almost mute. She would speak when spoken to — smile only when something inside of her remembered that that was the socially appropriate thing to do. She walked hesitatingly, and as the years went by, almost as if she had Parkinson’s. Dependence on a drug is more than physiological. My mother had forgotten how to live without it. I might catch a glimpse of her old self if I called at just the right time, around 7:30 at night. Her rituals for the day would be over. She would ask a question or two. There would be a slight lilt in her voice. Maybe she would laugh. It was welcome, but painful to hear. Because I knew it would be a fleeting moment. And then gone. I’m far from the only person whose relationship with her mother was problematic. She stayed way too involved in my life for way too long, and I allowed that to happen. I know now that she wasn’t all that happy living her life, so mine was perhaps more exciting to live with me. Other mothers don’t give the time of day to their children, or even worse, make those days horrific. Mother’s Day becomes a day to get through, try to avoid the myriad of places where moms and daughters walk seamlessly hand in hand. If you do share a loving relationship with your mom, and do things together that continue to build a sense of trust and intimacy, relish that time you have together. But maybe you also

his new beginning is a wonderful gift from God for us to show the world what He has deposited in us for exploits. It’s another opportunity to succeed. A capital to trade with. An investment to profit in and acres to harvest your diamonds. Be prepared to maximize every moment of the year by dreaming again and letting your dream focus you, discipline you, engage you, strengthen, put your hands and feet to work and walk. Dream again! To dream again in this context means dust up your productivity tools and get down to the basics - do what you know works and work it out. Last year may not have been a blossom for you. Dream again! Did you miss the target? Dream again! Did you fail to make good the opportunity you had? Dream again! Did you give up on your idea? Dream again! Didn’t your business yield projected returns? Dream again! You prayed and had a confirmation for a breakthrough in the area of your desire, yet it failed to crystalize? Dream again! Did you leave your employment prematurely or were even relieved of it? Dream again! Did you have promises which stopped short of fulfillment? Dream again! Did you close down your business for something else you thought was better, but turned out a flop? Dream again! In Luke 13: 6-8 Jesus tells a picture story about a visionary vineyard owner who had planted a fig tree and put a gardener to look after it. But for 3 years the fig tree didn’t yield any fruits. Then the vineyard owner got annoyed and ordered the fig tree to be cut down rather than let it further waste resources. Ouch! the smart gardener knew he was in trouble - out of the job. He turned over to plead. “Sir, it’s true that the fig tree hasn’t brought any fruits these many years. But give me this one more year; I will dig around to bring fresh earth and put fertilizer on it. I trust it will bring forth fruits this year. But if not, then you can yank it off.” Good idea. He won! The gardener dreamed again. This gardener was smart. Rather than lose out completely he choose to dream new dreams. Don’t lose out this year. Dream dreams again. Where you failed last year, dream again. Where you were pushed over last year, dream again. Where you were denied your rights and entitlements last year, dream again. Second time dreamers don’t lose out. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Gideon, David, Nehemiah, Ezra, Daniel, Peter, Paul, among several history makers in the Bible were all second time dreamers.

D R E A M

In this contemporary world, history makers are second timers. Donald J. Trump failed before. But he came back to win and win big. He is my man of the year. He was never given a chance to win the US election last year, but he kept dreaming again and won. He made many, many mistakes that could cost him the election. But he stayed on against put-down voices. He didn’t quit. The media and pollsters judged him a complete failure. But he won big. And today, he has broken world records to be first to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital; ordering the relocation of US embassy there. Donald Trump is my man of the year. He dreamed again. You too start dreaming again. Don’t shoot down your ideas, visions, dreams, imaginations, plans, projections. Dream again! The God of a second timer is alive to grant you grace to succeed this year. -with love from Ima Nkanta, Eternal House of Glory, Uyo, Nigeria. Pastor & Editor, Quest Inspirational magazine.

» Star Influence of our Time

A Raving Voice from Northern Ireland to the world

Angela Ifonlaja 1.

A lot have been heard and said about Angela Ifonlaja. Who are you? What’s your background and history please?

I am first and foremost a child of God, saved by His wonderful grace. I committed my life to Christ at the age of 18 and have never looked back. I’m the eldest of 5 children and I grew up in the Croydon area. I am a lawyer by profession and practiced as a Barrister for several years in England & Wales as well as Northern Ireland where I’ve lived for the past 11 years. I also serve as a Pastor in my local church, Place of Victory for All Nations, Belfast, together with my husband and we have 3 children.

2.

How do you find yourself doing music, and gospel music, not secular music?

I started singing at a very young age in the church and have always been in the church choir. I joined the London Community Gospel Choir (LCGC) in my late teens which gave me the opportunity to develop my gift and sing at a professional level. I went on to lead choirs, including the RCCG Festival of Life Mass Choir and the youth choir, NXGN. I also sang in a group called Eternal Excellence with my two sisters in my late teens and mid-twenties. My songs are born out of my experiences with God and my desire to share His love, so the message is paramount. Don’t get me wrong, I love making good music, but the music is a vehicle through which the message is carried and I have no message other than the one God has given me.

3.

In this day and age, does anyone who is gifted in music really need to be born again to be a gospel artiste? People interprete the words ‘gospel artiste’ in different ways. Some would say there’s a difference between an artiste and a minister. The truth is, if you’re going to use the word ‘gospel’ in whatever description you give yourself, it is only right that you believe in that gospel message, have a personal relationship with Jesus and live by the principles expounded in the gospel of Jesus. You wouldn’t call yourself a Buddhist or Muslim artiste/singer/musician unless you followed that faith so why would you do that with the gospel? If you self-identify with the gospel and put yourself out in the public domain, certain attitudes and behaviors will inevitably be expected of you regardless of whether or not you see yourself as a role model.

kind of music, and especially your voice is dif4. Your ferent. What’s the history behind these? Any motivating factor or mentor?

First of all, thank you! It’s good to hear that as I wouldn’t want to be a copy on anyone else, lol! My music is quite eclectic, incorporating different styles. Some of the songs on my recent album, ‘The Rising’, would be in the style of Contemporary Christian Music, others have classical, funk and R&B flavours. You’ll also hear my African roots in a couple of them. I think the range of styles covers my experiences growing up and living in London and having friends and colleagues of various nationalities. I would be quite open minded about learning of other cultures and enjoying what they have to offer. The album features Noel Robinson and MOBO Award winner, Faith Child as well as Northern Ireland based worship leaders, Mark Ferguson and Ian Hannah. It also features Rony Padilla (London), Tomilola Allen-Taylor (Dublin) and the NXGN youth choir. The collaborations on the album reflect the 3 places dear to me: London where I grew up, Northern Ireland where I live and Nigeria, being my roots. One of the songs on the album, called ‘Heal Our Land’, is sung in different languages to emphasize the point that in every nation in every continent, we need to cry out for

the mercy of God for healing. My songs are received rather than written. I often receive the inspiration for my songs from the Holy Spirit in the place of worship and prayer. Sometimes I wake up with a chorus or I’m driving and I receive something, so my voice recorder is never far from me! Lol! In terms of people that have inspired my musical and worship journey: Rev. Bazil Meade, founder of LCGC, under who’s leadership, I grew musically, had amazing opportunities that helped me to hone in on my gift and learn to use my voice. For that, I’ll be eternally grateful. I grew up listening to people like Cece Winans, Donnie McClurklin, Yolanda Adams, Fred Hammond and Commissioned. Their songs had a massive impact on me and no doubt, helped to shape some of my development.

working with musicians, what do you go 5. When for? The musicians with the anointing or the musicians with the skills?

Both! Lol! I’m looking for people with a heart for God and not just a love for the music. At the same time, they have to be skilled, otherwise their playing can become a distraction. When ministering live, I appreciate musicians who are sensitive to the mood and can hold back when necessary to allow those ‘selah’ moments to sink in uninterrupted by the display of their skills. Same goes for singers too – not every line needs to be embellished and riffed! I was blessed to work with one of the best producers in the UK gospel scene, Goz-I-am who is also a humble man with a heart for God. He took time to understand the heart of what I wanted to achieve and faithfully captured it.

lasting fulfilment has doing gospel mu6. What sic brought you? What are the experiences that have left indelible marks in your life?

I have had many wonderful experiences and seen God move in the atmosphere of worship both at a local, national and international level. I had the privilege of David’s Camp Magazine

ministering in Israel last year, which was an amazing experience for me in the Holy Land. I’ve been stretched through experiences of ministering at 24-hour worship events where we’ve gone for several hours non-stop. I also get the opportunity to minister at non-Christian events, using the music as an evangelistic tool. My church worship team sometimes visits nursing homes to sing for residents. We don’t conduct a service, we just keep it light hearted to carry the audience along and get them involved. We had an experience where an elderly resident was dancing as we sang. After our session, her daughter came to us in tears saying her mother had not stood up in 5 years, late alone been able to dance! We were humbled. Moments like that remind you that it’s not about you and your abilities but about God who can use a willing and available vessel.

7.

You ministered, I think last year at the Nigerian RCCG Lagos Convention, didn’t you? What was the feeling like ministering to such a large number of Christian gathering? That was mind-blowing! Standing on the altar, looking out at a sea of millions of people worshipping together is unimaginable and I was in awe of God. It was very special.

8.

How many albums have you done and what are the experiences they’ve brought you? Any favourite song? The Rising is my debut solo album. Prior to that, I’d released an EP several years ago with my sisters as Eternal Excellence. A lot of my friends said the album was looong overdue as I’d been in the gospel music space for so many years, but everything has its season and I think the timing was right. After moving to Northern Ireland, my focus was more on the missionary work we had here as well as raising a young family at the same time. Both required attention and in that season of ‘musical sabbatical’ so to speak, I grew in many other ways. I never stopped singing of course, just kept it local.

9. You are a Pastor’s wife, aren’t you? What additional

workload does that role bring? How have you coped with being a wife, a Pastor’s wife(mother/mentor to church women), a mother and a gospel artiste? Add to that a working professional, lol! Phil 4:13 is so real to me: ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’ He really gives grace. Pastoring is a layer on top 8

David’s Camp Magazine

of what most people have to juggle day to day and that sometimes means you’re on call at odd hours. You have to manage your time well so that your family is not negatively impacted and that means you have to know when “no” can do. I thank God for my wonderfully loving and supportive husband who encourages me to take opportunities and facilitates that in many ways. Also, for my children who are my cheerleaders. We do life and ministry together and that makes all the difference.

are many aspiring singers out there who 10. There struggle to write songs. Do you want to please

guide them on how to go about it? How do you get the songs you write?

It’s first and foremost about your relationship with God. When the songs you write are born out of your intimate moments, you won’t struggle. Your songs also have to have Word content because the power is in the Word. You may need some help to ‘tidy them up’ so to speak, and that’s where a good producer can help. If you don’t have any instrumental skills, don’t let that stop you. Your producer will work with you on that. Ensure you capture your ideas in real time by using the voice recorder on your phone, for example. Sing your songs at home, sing them in your church if you have the opportunity. When God gives, bless your local assembly with it and more will flow.

11.

Anything cooking from your stable soon? What should we be expecting from Angela Ifonlaja? Any concert or album in coming up?

I have some dates lined up in Texas, USA in June and I’m really excited about those. I’m also back and forth in London and other parts of the UK quite a bit so you can look out for those dates on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. @AngelaIfonlaja for all platforms.

final word to lovers of your music all over 12. Your the globe, and your pieces of advice to upcom-

Love God first and foremost and let the music be a vehicle that contributes to drawing you closer to Him, rather than being an end in itself.

RELATIONSHIP

WHAT A MOTHER TOLD HER SON A DAY BEFORE HIS WEDDING M

ummy’s boy, you are now a man. Tomorrow you will have a new mother, a new cook and a new person to share all your secrets with. It will no longer be me but her. Love your new mum even more than you love me. Before you walk into her arms forever, let me give you some words to guide you. There was a day I was arguing with your father. We were screaming, Tempers were high. I was angry and He was angry. Then I called him an idiot! He was shocked, He looked at me asking how dare I call him that. Immediately I started calling him idiot, fool, stupid, crazy; I called him all sort of name. Guess what he did? He didn’t raise his hands to hit me. He just walked away, banging the door as he went out. My Son, If your father had hit me and destroyed my eyes, how will you feel sitting here with me today? How will you regard him as your father? Would you have been proud of him or would you be blaming me for calling him names? Never hit your wife! No matter the provocation just walk away and things will be normal. Whenever she offends you, think of this story I just told you, it could have been your mum! After he left, I was filled with guilt. We slept on same bed that night and I went to him the next day. I pleaded with him, I did all I could to show am sorry and he forgave me. That day I cooked his favourite food, yes you know he loves Pounded yam & Vegetable soup right? After that day, I never called him names, my respect for him was ten times stronger. There is something very important you must always do, my son listen very carefully, defend your wife. When she is under pressure, stand by her. If your friends hates her, it is your duty to make them see her as a Queen. Your Uncle, I mean Uncle Yusuf, never liked me. But your father was always supportive until his perception changed. There was a day your Father was going to host the owner of his company and friends. They were three of them. That day I was in the kitchen cooking for them and your father went to buy drinks. When the table was set and food was served. Everyone started eating. Then I remembered I did not add salt in the food. I was embarrassed. Your father tasted the food and looked at me. He immediately turned to the guests. He told them that he instructed his wife last month not to add salt whenever she is cooking because of some problem with his body. He said it in a funny way and everyone laughed! The guests understood and he asked me to

bring salt and everyone added according to their taste. He managed to eat the food without salt. After the guest left, he went on his knees and asked God to forgive him for lying. Your wife is like a baby, sometimes she don’t know what to say or do. Stand up and speak for her! Now let me talk to you about Sex. You see Sex is a wonderful thing. Do not be surprised if your wife enjoy and need Sex more than you do. There were days, I needed Sex more than your father and there were days he needed it more than me but the important thing is to always try to satisfy the other when they need you. Don’t always think of your self. There was a time things were hard and I needed to do two jobs to support your father. One night I was so tired. When I got to bed he was in the mood. He try to make love to me and I didn’t refuse him. I was tired but I felt I needed to be there when he needs me. When he tried undressing me, he saw my look and he stopped. He asked what was wrong and I said nothing. But he understand me better. He stopped and then started telling me stories until I fell asleep. My son, Sex is best enjoyed when the two parties are physically and mentally ready for it. Sometimes, read your wife and understand her. Make it a habit to go anywhere with your wife. Beside your job, move around with her. If anyone invite you to his house and told you not to come with your wife then be very careful. Use wisdom. I know you love mummy… I know you will tell me all your problems. But now things will be different. Let your wife be the first to know before me. Let her be the first to see before me. When you have problems with her don’t run to me immediately. Wait for a day to pass and then talk to her about it. Pray about it. Report her to nobody but talk issues out within yourself. Finally, don’t forget to come and visit me with your wife every month! I know you will have a happy home. You will always be mummy’s boy. God will bless your home. Please, don’t forget God, pray & seek His assistance always.. David’s Camp Magazine

God will settle you

- BY PASTOR ‘LAYO AFUAPE (PLA)

Parish Pastor The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Great Beauty Tabernacle Catford, London.

“But the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will personally restore, establish, strengthen, and settle you after you have suffered a little. The dominion belongs to Him forever. Amen - 1 Peter 5:10 There many hurdles in life that we will experience as human beings and even more as children of God when committed to our divine assignments. Some challenges might be very fierce that the very elect can also begin to give in to frustration and discouragement. There might be many issues you are going through as you are reading this article and you might have been feeling very confused; maybe you are angry at your self for a decision you made wrongly and now affecting you negatively, beloved, do not give in to the enemy. Do not give up for God will settle you. You might not see the physical manifestation of what God has promised as yet but I can assure you that God cannot lie. 1 Samuel 15:29 says “...The Eternal One of Israel does not lie or change His mind for He is not man who changes his mind.” God who says He has overcome for you in John 16:33 cannot lie. Hold unto God’s words concerning your life. What you think is what you will become as in Proverbs 18:21. Speak to your body, marriage, children, career, business, etc. that life and success are your portion and it shall come to pass. Our enemy, the devil desires to weaken our hands, he enjoys it when any child of God is at the

edge of turning from God or to give up living; Satan likes every child of God to stop praying, to stop attending church services, to stop reading and meditating in the word of God where you can find strength so that His desire will stand on that child of God - Matthew 13:13-15. This will not stand neither will it come to pass. I don’t know what you are going through, I don’t know the situation that is causing you sleepless nights, what has gripped your heart so much that you can’t even eat nor smile anymore? What are you going through that you are already fed up? How long have you been silent over that matter? I declare that The Lord God Almighty who ended the thirty-eight years of pains and sorrow in the life of that man at the pool of Bethshaida in John chapter five will arise on your behalf and settle you in Jesus name. This man wouldn’t have received his blessing the day Jesus got to the pool if he had given up and stopped expecting his miracle. He could have asked to be taken home but he kept enduring until his change came. keep trusting in The Lord. Do not be tempted to seek help outside Christ. Do not fret because others are making it, rather rejoice with others. Keep praying until your change comes. Job 14:14 says that “when a man dies, will he come back to life? if so, I will wait all my appointed days until my change comes”. Be determined to make it in life. Do not be timid anymore. Do not give in to those neg-

ative thoughts, do not give in to the threats of the enemies, rather hold unto God and His word. When Haman threatened to kill Mordecai and the Jews, Mordecai did not sit on worries and anxieties, he arose and went to the platform (Queen Esther) he believed God had put in place for their salvation. They fasted and prayed for three days, God responded and the arrow of the enemy went back to his head. I want to plead with you to keep trying until your change comes. God Who settled the Jews in the Book of Esther, God Who settled Peter, Paul and Silas when imprisoned, God Who settled Zecharia and Elizabeth by giving them a glorious child at old age will arise and settle you too. Don’t give up Don’t give in Don’t get up from your divine seat Don’t give away your divine treasures Don’t walk away from your blessing out of frustration God will perfect all that concerns me God will establish you in all ways God will strengthen you that you will not fail not stumble God will settle you on every side Arise, rejoice, keep asking, keep going to church, keep paying youe firdt fruit and tithes, keep doing good for God Almighty will wipe away your tears. You will testify - read, meditate and memorise 1 Peter 5:10. Don’t give up child of God.

WATCHING MY MOTHER DISAPPEAR

Continued from page 4

have a mom or dad that you’re watching disappear with alcohol. With drugs. Maybe they are in denial. “I need it to sleep.” “It’s prescription.” “I get up and work everyday – it’s not like I’m an alcoholic.” But you see the changes in them. You aren’t in denial of their problem. Only they are. I’d strongly recommend Alanon or Narc-anon. It helps to hear other people’s wisdom and how they’re staying in relationship, but with detachment. We live in a culture glorifying escape. We don’t know how many people are actually using benzodiazepines, drugs that immediately soothe severe anxiety. But it’s a lot. People share them with their friends. Kids steal them from their parents. What my mom would wish for you… and me… Escape can be very easy to justify. Yet my mother’s world was far from glorious. She whispered to me, maybe two years before her death, using the halting, breathy voice that became all I would hear, “I wish I had known what I was doing to myself.” You’ve heard her story. She would want you to know that there is another way. And to my Mother. Whether you knew it or not, you were beautiful. And talented. And smart. I missed you then. I miss you now.

By Joshua Tosh Hey! Have you heard of a guy called Shamgar? He was such an interesting character. At the time when Philistines were terrorizing the Israelites it was too dangerous to go to the market…roads were abandoned. However, that was when this Shamgar guy went out with ‘not-too-appropriate’ weapon to attack and ended up killing 600 philistines with an ox goad! We remain dormant if we keep waiting for the ‘big thing’ ‘the perfect tool’. The truth is we would never do anything, if we wait until we could do it so well that no one would find fault with what we’ve done. Do you know that living with fear stops us taking risks? and ‘if you don’t go out on the branch, you’re never going to get the best fruit’ It’s amazing what God can do through our ‘tools’ – skills, ideas, talent, dreams…They may not be perfect, but our determination working within the grace of God can make unbelievable things happen. You can do it because your GOD said it. You’re destined to fly! Joshua Tosh – is a Worship leader, Song writer, Music producer, Speaker, Ref: Judges 3, Phil. 3:20, Eccl. 11:4-6, Matt. 14:29, 2 Tim.1:7 Mentor and a Pastor in the RedeemedChristian Church of God. He organises an annual Worship event called PUSH! – Praise Until Something Happens. He’s happily married with children. www.joshuatosh.com.
