Life Changes— Style Changes
• Choose your color palette thoughtfully. In Seattle, I believe we should wear more color to brighten up the gray days and to shine on the sunny ones. It is super lush, colorful and green here for at least half the year. Look for colors in your new environment you love and bring them into your wardrobe.
What happens to your style when you move to a very different part of the country? A lot. In January 2015, my husband, our twins and I packed our bags for Seattle, Washington where my husband had accepted a job as an executive recruiter for Amazon. It was not a move I was excited about to say the least. I had spent 21 years living happily in Dallas, Texas where I built an image consulting business and established many cherished friendships.
• Don’t be a copycat. You might see a lot of a certain style of something in your new city, but that does not mean it is right for you. Before our move, I thought I would wear the traditional-looking UGG boots, only to discover I hated them despite my need to keep my feet warm and dry. About six months after ditching the ugly UGGs, I found the perfect weatherproof wedge boot with shearling that had panache. These boots functioned for Seattle, yet they were “me.” Low and behold, they are by UGG!
Life in Seattle is very different than life in Dallas. The weather and climate aside, this part of the country is an outdoorsman’s paradise – many places to hike, to snow ski, to boat, you name it. Once we shake off the cold, wet winter in Seattle, we are dashing outside to the parks for sporting events, picnics and concerts. And outside is where we stay until about October when the cold and rain return.
I love being in Seattle for the new experiences, the new people and my new style. But I do miss my beloved South and all my wonderful family and friends. Y’all come and see me some time, you hear?

My Seattle look is more urban, less formal and it involves a lot more layering. I have happily added new jackets and several new styles of boots to my wardrobe. But my look is still “me.” I still rock a bold red lip, for instance, and I wear the heck out of any jewelry with sparkle. I have simply added companion pieces that work for life here in Seattle, and you can be sure those pieces, while functional, are modern and fashionable. Here is my advice on remaining true to your style while adapting to your image to your new zip code:
•
Observe the landscape and make small adjustments. Is it wet? Get a great pair of rain boots. Maybe it’s sunny and hot. Get a great hat. Perhaps it is hilly. Ditch the heels and pick up a pair of marvelous flats. The key is to find pieces that make you happy while serving you in your new location. •
Absorb some of the energy and vibe of your new location. Seattle is much more casual than Dallas. While I may not dress to the nines often, my look, while more casual, is chic and polished. Fashion Week Lake Charles 2017

dev’s style report:
5 Looks That Will Turn Heads This Spring! I’ve always adored the spring time. You can finally shed that cocoon you’ve been bundled in all winter long and bloom into the butterfly you are supposed to be. In other words, it’s time to rid yourself of all those comfy layers you’ve been wrapped up in, amp up your sexy, and flash a little skin. All over the runways, designers showed bold cuts, big patterns, and vivid colors for spring 2017 style. Whether your style is minimalistic or bodacious, this spring, there is a trend for every fashionista (and fashionisto) out there. I’ve composed a list of 5 spring trends you must try this season. Each trend will add some fabulousness to your wardrobe and match this upbeat season to a tee. Check out the following …
#1 Super Bold Brights Vivid brights in an array of colors were huge on the runways for this spring. The trend was done in a monochromatic head-to-toe look. What I love most about this trend is that everyone can pull it off. Stick to structured pieces when wearing this look such as: tailored blazers and bottoms. To top this ensemble off pair with a nude strappy sandal or a chunky heeled sandal in the same hue of your outfit if you’re feeling well…upper Bold ! Fashion Week Lake Charles 2017

#2 ... The 80’s Ruffle A tad of 80s style is usually in every fashion season and this spring is no exception. To pull off this trend opt for an item with a high -volume ruffle such as: a cold-shoulder blouse or fitted pencil skirt, pair with a tapered pant or simple top for a chic spring look.
#3 Flower Power One thing you can count on for spring style is that floral patterns will always be in. Head-to -toe, matching sets are the way to go to pull off this timeless look.

#4 Statement Stripes Stripes of all kinds were shown for S/17 style. This is one trend that you must commit to in order to truly pull it off. For the best look, opt for vertical stripes when wearing this trend, you’ll appear to be longer and leaner.
#5 Mix ‘n’ Match Warning: This spring trend is only for the real deal fashionistas out there. Mix-Match looks were heavily shown at Mulberry and RED Valentino shows for the spring season. I simply love this trend, it’s original and helps your true-self shine through. I hope you all have enjoyed my spring style report, which trend are you most excited about trying this season?!
