Lake Charles 2018
Thank You and Welcome to Fashion Week Lake Charles 2018. Color Me Caribbean is our theme for 2018! We are in our third year with the largest fashion event to ever hit Southwest Louisiana. Fashion Week Lake Charles 2018 benefitting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF). I have been in the beauty and fashion business for 38 years. My granddaughter Gabbi was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes four years ago. It breaks my heart to see her go through this at such a vibrant time in her life. She is now 18 years old and faces challenges every day. JDRF meets Fashion=FWLC. There is no cure. FWLC and JDRF would like a world without Type 1 Diabetes and this event will further our goal to turn Type 1 INTO TYPE NONE, with no doubt in my mind it’s time to show everyone Lake Charles has fashion!

Do Style Rules Still Apply?
Each season designers throw a plethora of gorgeous clothes at us. At best, it is exciting; at worst, it is overwhelming and confusing. More and more, designers are urging us to set aside old rules of style, to be more daring with fashion and, most of all, to have more fun with our appearance. Having grown up in the South in the 70’s and 80’s, ignoring style rules runs counter to everything I learned my first 20 or so years. Following style rules makes that part of my life less stressful and more manageable. However, now that style rules are going by the way-side, what do we do? Which rules still make sense?
their physical proportions do (or do not) marry well with it. However, your personal style supersedes this rule to a degree. If you have a small frame but your style is dramatic and bold, choose one or two bold pieces for your look, and keep the rest of it understated. This way you can express your style without taking away from your physical presence. Dress for the occasion. When I make presentations, I tell my audiences to consider where you are going, what you are doing and who you are seeing before you get dressed for the day. While it is fine to be overdressed for an occasion, be sure you can do whatever you might be asked to do. In other words, don’t wear stilettos to a construction site. Dressing for the occasion shows respect, most of all. You are communicating that you have given it thought, and that you respect the people you are spending time with and you respect yourself, above all.
Here are my top three style rules I believe still apply: Dress for your body shape. Our general shape is what it is. We can exercise and eat healthy foods, but overall, if you were made an hourglass shape, for instance, that is the shape you will be regardless of your weight. Speaking of the hourglass shape, if this is you, let’s see your shape. This 1960s moment that fashion has been having for several years where the clothing is rather oversized and shapeless is doing you no favors. God gave you a waistline. Wear tops and dresses that go in at the waist, or, at the very least, tuck your top or belt your midsection. If you are the opposite shape, full through the mid-section, avoid tight waistlines and choose clothing that skims over your shape. This generally means you will be looking for silky fabrics that drape well rather than clingy knits. There are many body shapes and much more I could say, but the take away is to be aware of your shape and respect it.
The rules I learned such as matching your shoes to your handbag, coordinating your jewelry, wearing heels with skirts, etc. are dying and matter much less today. As long as you follow the rules above while allowing your personal style to dictate the rest, you will be fine. In fact, you will be fabulous. Dress for your proportions. This goes hand in hand with dressing for your shape. In general, a taller person can wear large prints and heavier accessories, which would overwhelm the frame of a petite person. A weighty, platform shoe can look comical on one person and fantastic on another simply because Fashion Week Lake Charles

DEVANDTHECITY S/S18 STYLE REPORT! Happy Spring Fashionta(o)s! be coming back. Makeup and hair will be a tad more subdued this time around. You won’t be seeing a compilation of big hair, dramatic eyes, and bright lips & cheeks in one look. Instead, you’ll see one feature on the face highlighted. Disco Grunge was huge on the S/S18 runways, think glitter eyes, metallic lips, and lots of thick eyeliner. Another trend that was shown a lot, glazed skin! So, make sure to stay super hydrated and use lots of serums and toner waters.
The 1980s are back and the unexpected mixtures of textures and patterns are making their epic return to the year of 2018. Designers showcased these trends all over the S/S18 runways. Pastels mixed with sequins, zesty rainbows, sheer lilac, and sporty chic is what we will be seeing everywhere this spring/ summer. When I think about 80s fashion, the word bold comes to mind. I wasn’t around for the boisterous decade, but my mom, aunts, and grandmother were and they kept a host of pictures from that time. Being the fashionistas that they are, Polaroids of daring ensemble choices with big hair is what was displayed. I can remember thinking to myself “oh how brave those 80s were.” It takes real gusto to be able to pull off clashing patterns and pair it with just as contrasting hair and makeup.
To incorporate these spring and summer trends into your style I say start small, then go as far as your comfort level allows you to. Fashion is not about comfort, but style is, and you never want to make a trend your style because just like it comes in, it will go out. Instead use the trends to enhance what your key style already is. For instance, buy a staple piece that showcases the trend like a pastel & sequined blouse or chic biker shorts and mix-n-match them with pieces you already have in your wardrobe. Or try a fierce metallic lippie for a night out on the town.
Even though 80s fashion may be making a return, all of the elements of the audacious era will be not Fashion Week Lake Charles
