Corvallis Transit You can save money and keep our skies cleaner by riding public transit to work, school, shopping and special events. Come aboard; riding Corvallis Transit System is easy! If you have any questions, the bus driver will gladly help, but please try not to distract the driver while the bus is moving.

Arrive at the bus stop: Always arrive to the bus stop at least 5 minutes before the bus is expected to arrive. As the bus approaches, confirm the route number and name by checking the sign above the windshield. It is helpful to stay near the bus stop sign and wave to the driver. (Do not step into the street.) When it is dark and you might not been seen, wave a small flashlight or lit cell phone to catch the driver's attention.

Board the bus: Wait until the bus comes to a complete stop before you attempt to board. If you are traveling with your bicycle, read about Bikes on Buses. All CTS buses are ADA equipped. If you need assistance boarding, ask the driver to lower the bus ("kneel" the bus) so that the stairs drop down to curb height, or ask the driver to lower the boarding ramp. If you are traveling in a wheelchair, the driver can assist you with strapping it in place. All CTS buses and the late night Beaver Bus service are fareless so any person wishing to ride CTS or the Beaver Bus may do so without paying a fare. Simply come aboard! If you will be transferring to another CTS bus, let the driver know. Transfer slips are no longer issued however the driver can help ensure you make your connection by asking the other bus driver to wait for your arrival. Move immediately to a vacant seat. Priority seats for seniors and passengers with disabilities are located closest to the driver. When a person in a wheelchair is boarding, people seated near the lift or ramp are required to move to make room for that person. If you must stand, hold on to the railings or seat backs.

Enjoy the ride: While on board, follow the Code of Conduct for safety and courtesy on the bus; report any concerns to the bus driver. Watch for your stop. When your stop is just ahead, signal the driver by pulling the gray cord that runs just below the windows. If the "stop requested" light is lit, someone else has already signaled for the driver to stop at the next stop. Remain seated until the bus comes to a complete stop. Gather your belongings and be sure you don’t leave anything behind when you leave the bus. Please depart the bus from the back door, when possible. Thank you for riding public transportation!

Bruce Starker Arts Park Location: In southwest Corvallis, off of Country Club Drive and SW 45th Street, adjacent to Sunset Park Size: 15.71 Acres Bruce Starker Arts Park features a unique amphitheater-style shelter that can be reserved for events such as performances, concerts, weddings or parties. A "bowl" of gently sloping grass hugs the amphitheater on three sides. The fourth side of the stage faces the park's popular duck pond. Grassy areas and stationary picnic tables situated around the pond allow guests to enjoy the water while picnicking. To encourage natural migration, guests are prohibited from feeding the wildlife. The pond's fountain normally operates year-round from about 6 am to 8 pm daily. A multi-modal path winds around the pond and through the park. The park's play equipment includes swings, slide and a climbing structure. The Bruce Starker Arts Park boasts an energetic community garden. Parks & Recreation solicited community feedback on naming the community garden, and in August 2009 announced that it would be named the Dunawi Creek Community Garden.

Sunset Park and Natural Area Location: In southwest Corvallis, off of Country Club Place (near where SW 45th Street intersects Country Club Drive), across from Bruce Starker Arts Park Size: 20 Acres Sunset Park and Natural Area is a community park which features a small picnic shelter, ADA accessible playground, restroom, two lighted ball fields, a half basketball court, landscaping and open turf play area. In 2008, a multimodal path and interpretive boardwalk were installed along Dunawi Creek and habitat restoration projects were completed along the creek to restore the riparian ecosystem.

Bald Hill Natural Area Location: In west Corvallis and is accessible from 3 locations: a path next to the Benton County Fairgrounds, an entrance off Oak Creek Rd., and an entrance off Reservoir Rd. Size: 284 Acres Bald Hill Natural Area offers a 1.5 mile path along the base of the hill, and several miles of foot trails that climb to the summit of the hill and connect to the Mulkey Creek Trail and Fitton Green Natural Area. The trails pass through various habitats. A restored barn offers guests shelter at the base of the hill with an off-leash dog area. Horseback riding and bicycling are permitted on designated trails. Benches allow guests to rest and enjoy beautiful views.

Fitton Green Natural Area Location: In west Corvallis, west of Bald Hill Natural Area. Size: 308 Acres Named after Elsie Fitton Ross, who along with her husband, Charles Ross, and the Greenbelt Land Trust, helped fund the acquisition of this resource. Fitton Green has been open to the public since 2003 and has 3 public access locations, environmental interpretation information, and trails that connect with the Cardwell Hill Trail that runs from Corvallis to Kings Valley.

Community Attractions Irish Bend Covered Bridge and Campus Way Nature Trail Location: In west Corvallis, off of 35th Street, south of Harrison Blvd. The bridge was built using a standard Highway Division design dating back to the 1920s. Following its construction in 1954, the bridge provided access across the Willamette Slough on Irish Bend Road, approximately 15 miles south of Corvallis. Following installation of two large culverts and realignment of the road in 1975, the Irish Bend covered span languished until it was dismantled in 1988. The span may originally have been constructed over the Long Tom River about 30 miles to the south and later moved to the Irish Bend site, but research on this issue is not yet completed. Various plans had been proposed for use of the bridge, including floating it downriver to be relocated to a new site. Through negotiations an agreement was reached between Benton County officials and Oregon State University to reconstruct it on university property in Corvallis. The Irish Bend Advisory Committee raised over $30,000, with Benton County providing an equal amount in matching funds, for the relocation of the span. Because no maintenance had been performed for more than 15 years, many of the timbers had rotted. New stringers were donated by a local mill, and an engineering firm provided the foundation without charge. The bridge site is part of a path through the research farm between 35th and 53rd Streets on the west side of the OSU campus. While the property is owned by the university, maintenance is carried out by the Benton County Parks Department, since the bridge is part of a bicycle and pedestrian path along Oak Creek.

Oregon State University

Oregon State is a leading research university located in one of the safest, smartest, greenest small cities in the nation.
