A Letter From The President

Dear Deering Bay Members,

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season with your families. December was a great month here at the Club and we are looking forward to a great New Year.

The Club experienced strong financial results in November as revenues exceeded our forecasts by $51,000 for the month. Year-to-date revenues exceeded $2.1M over the prior year.

The Club continues to generate positive net operating income as we finished with our best month at $150,495 net

operating income. We are forecasting to finish the year in the strongest financial position that the Club has seen and we will carry this momentum into the new year.

We are excited to announce that permits for the Pickle Ball Courts have been approved and construction of the courts will begin this month.

The 19th Hole is making great progress and over the next few weeks, we will see roofing, framing, and drywall installed. The 19th Hole is on track to be completed in the Spring and we will keep the membership updated as it progresses.

We are still awaiting the approval of permits to begin reconstruction of the Pool, Splash Pad, and surrounding Pool Deck, but we do anticipate opening these facilities in conjunction with the opening of the 19th Hole.

As many of you may have noticed, several trees have been taken down throughout the parking lot. Once our permits are approved, we will be planting Sable Palms, repaving, adding curbing, adding new stop signs, and improving the landscaping.

Thank you to everyone who applied to join one of Deering Bay’s committees. We truly appreciate your commitment to the Club. Members selected to be on our 2023 committees will be notified this week.

2023 will be a transformative year here at Deering Bay, and we are all looking forward to the opening of our new facilities around the Club.

Thank you all for helping make 2022 so great, and here’s to an even better 2023.

Happy New Year!

Leo

Happy 2023! I am confident that Deering Bay will shine in this New Year.

Once again, thank you to all of our members and associates who helped make 2022 an amazing year. We are proud to have accomplished many great things all around Deering Bay over the past year, and are looking forward to accomplishing even more in 2023!

Thank you to everyone who celebrated the end of 2022 with us here at the Club during our New Year’s Eve Dinner. Our wonderful chefs provided an excellent menu for our members and are looking forward to showcasing their cooking skills with more events this year.

In January, we are looking forward to hosting our WGA Match Play Tournament, Men’s Interclub Tournament, Disco Night, President’s Cup, Men’s Team Match Play Tournament, WGA Member Guest, and Tennis Round Robin Tournament.

As always, we will continue to offer weekly specials, Mexican Night Tuesdays, Pasta Night Thursdays, Prime Rib Saturdays, and Sunday Brunch Buffets. To make a reservation for any events or specialty nights, please visit the DBYCC App or website.

Congratulations to John Pallot for being recognized as a Top 50 Coach in 2022 by U.S. Kids Golf, we are so proud of you!

News From Membership

Dear Deering Bay Members,

We are very excited to start the new year here at Deering Bay and want to wish all our members, staff, and families a healthy and happy new year!

We are looking forward to a productive and successful 2023 and the 19th Hole Bar & Grill that will be ready this Spring for all members and guests to enjoy delicious cocktails, snacks, and specials from the grill to have poolside.

In 2022 we closed the year with a record 502 memberships overall, with a total of 311 Full Golf members and 45 Young Executives. For this year only 8 resignations have been confirmed, the lowest in many years.

I want to thank all the members who referred their friends and family for membership at the club. We will continue with the successful Member Referral Program in 2023, where you can receive credit on your annual dues when your referral signs up for membership at Deering Bay. If you have any friends or family interested in Deering Bay, we are always happy to meet with them and show them what a paradise our Club is.

Finally, don’t forget to RSVP for our January Theme Party which will be Disco Night on Wednesday, January 11 at 6:30 pm in the Clubhouse.

Happy 2023!

News From The Golf Course News From Golf

Hello members,

It is great to wrap up 2022 on such a high note. We had a busy month of December leading up to the holidays and New Year’s celebrations. Some highlights were a hugely successful WGA Frozen event, our second MGA event of the season, our first Adult-Child Scramble, and both our Men’s and Women’s Interclub events.

January is a very busy month for us, so I am going to get right into important dates that we have coming up:

January 5th: WGA Match Play Round 1

January 6th: Srixon Demo Day

January 7th: Adidas Trunk Show

January 11th: Men’s Interclub @ Deering Bay

January 12th: WGA Match Play Round 2

January 14th: President’s Cup Round 1, Titleist Demo Day

January 15th: President’s Cup Round 2, Couples Golf

January 19th: Women’s Interclub @ Fort Lauderdale Country Club, WGA Match Play Final

January 21st: Men’s Team Championship Qualifier

January 22nd: Men’s Team Championship Qualifier

January 26th: Women’s Member-Guest, Anatomie Trunk Show

January 28th: Men’s Team Championship Semi Finals

January 29th: Men’s Team Championship Finals

As you can see, we have a ton of golf events planned for January. Stay tuned for signups for all these events. Keep in mind that we put golf calendars outside of the accounting office for all our upcoming men’s and women’s events if you want to get a feel for how things look for the rest of the season.

Thank you all for your help in making 2022 a successful year. We are looking forward to continued growth and success in 2023!

News From The Golf Course

Dear Deering Bay Members,

The first cold snap of the season hit the golf course early this year with Christmas Day being especially cold and high temperatures only reaching 49 degrees. In addition to these cold temperatures this holiday weekend was also especially cloudy. Combining these two environmental stress factors has proven taxing on our Sea Dwarf Paspalum greens.

As a result, much like last year during the same month we are seeing some turf thinning on greens to take note of. We have applied several products to help aid in recovery and I don’t foresee any lasting affects throughout the season, but it’s a valuable lesson to see how sensitive our current variety is. In the past these stresses have been much more severe, especially on holes 4, 13 and 17 where in 2020 the greens received substantial turf loss. The dead grass was then replaced with the newest variety Platinum Paspalum.

The silver lining is that in the past 18 months in all these poor weather events we have seen, I have yet to see any symptoms of stress on the new variety. You can spot Platinum Paspalum on the back left of 17 green and the left side of 13 green. Its bright green appearance showcases its resilience during stressful conditions.

With the Platinum Paspalum thriving now for several years in some of the most stressful locations on property it has proven to be the perfect variety of turf for a future renovation. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to write me anytime at d.stover@dbycc.com.

News From Tennis

Dear Deering Bay Members,

As the year came to an end, we would like to thank all the tennis members for their continued support to the tennis program and congratulate all the teams in their efforts and accomplishments.

Holding true to tradition, our women did rock and dominate the Miami tennis world in 2022, they are the greatest women to work with and we really appreciate all of them!

Recap of our womens teams:

6.0 55 & over was 7-5 and finished 2nd, 7.0 55 & over was 9-3 and finished 2nd, 3.0 40 & over was 4-4 and finished 4th out of 9 teams, 3.5 40 & over was 9-2 and finished 3rd out of 12 teams, Alpha Beta is 5-0 and is currently in first place out of 8 teams, B1 is 5-0 and is currently in first place out of 8 teams.

As good as the womens teams are they are not the only ones leaving a mark in Miami tennis world; our men’s teams were also very competitive and getting better and better as the year flew by.

For December all clinics scheduled were held successfully and we also had a variety of competitive league matches as well as the ladies’ / men’s doubles Club championships and the Challenge Ladder. All these events were topped off for relaxation with one fun filled Round Robin (Play with Santa Claus Mixer Round Robin December 17th). We would like to congratulate Jeffrey Fenton who finished in first place, runner up Lelia Harrington, and Marisol Kutner/Elizabeth Strombom third place.

This month all of our regular clinics will be in progress and the attendance should be excellent. For those who enjoy playing tennis, we would like to invite you to come and play in our upcoming events, especially on Saturday, January 28th at 9:00am for our adult round robin!

Do not forget our regular program we offer during the week with Men’s, Ladies’ and Junior’s private lessons and clinics. If you would like to sign up or need more information, please call the Pro Shop at 305-256-3366.

We hope this New Year finds you all in good health and spirits. This year promises to be eventful and fun filled. As everyone returns from vacation, we are getting more and more phone calls and reservations, and we look forward to seeing everyone on the courts.

Let’s make 2023 another great year for the Deering Bay Tennis Program!
