A Letter From The President Dear Deering Bay Members, I trust this letter finds you well. As we collectively reflect on the past year and look ahead to the promising future, I am happy to share some important updates and expressions of appreciation. First and foremost, on behalf of the entire Board of Directors and the Deering Bay community, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks to General Manager Fran Roach for his dedicated service to our Club over the past two years. Fran has been instrumental in guiding us through significant Leo Chomiak enhancements, including the addition of Pickleball Courts, President the establishment of the 19th Hole, and the renovation Board of Directors of both the Formal Dining Room and Crystal Room. His tireless efforts in planning ongoing renovations and improvements have been invaluable, and we wish him every success in his future endeavors. Looking back at the financial achievements of 2023, we are pleased to announce the most successful year in Club history. Through careful management of our resources and the substantial growth in membership, we have achieved the highest Net Operating Income to date. Our courtyard project is progressing steadily, with the completion of tiling in the back half. We eagerly anticipate the finishing of the front half, which will pave the way for renovations to the stairwell and bottom entrance. Once the tiling is complete, brand new furniture will be installed in the courtyard, providing an inviting space for our members. Furthermore, we are actively pursuing the renovation of the main floor and Fitness Center men’s and women’s restrooms, and the exciting construction of a Splash Pad at the Club. We have selected a contractor and are in the final stages of reviewing designs, anticipating the positive impact these enhancements will have on our facilities. We continue to work on the master plans for Phase III of the Clubhouse Renovations, which we hope to start this next phase later this year. The third phase will include the renovation of the Pool Terrace, Men’s and Women’s Locker Rooms, the Golf Shop, and the Front Entrance to the Clubhouse. As we step into another promising year at Deering Bay, I extend my sincere thanks to departing Board members, Rob Sperber, Leo Mendoza, and Edith Neuwahl for their invaluable contributions. A warm welcome to Larry Woerner, Daryl Shevin, and Sarah Kuhn, who join the 2024 Board of Directors, bringing fresh perspectives and insights. Your continued support, engagement, and commitment are the driving forces behind our success. Here’s to another amazing year ahead, filled with camaraderie, growth, and exciting developments at Deering Bay. Best Regards, Leo

Fran Roach PGA General Manager gm@dbycc.com

Reflecting on my past two years here at Deering Bay, it has been an incredible journey filled with growth, accomplishments, and the joy of working with an outstanding community. Together, we have seen the completion and opening of the 19th Hole Restaurant, revitalized the Pool and Pool Deck, introduced three Pickleball Courts, and renovated the Formal Dining and Crystal Rooms. The warm welcome extended to over 50 new families has been a testament to the strength and inclusivity of our community.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you, from our dedicated team of directors, managers, and staff members to the committee members, Board of Directors, and, most importantly, our wonderful members. Your commitment to making Deering Bay the best it can be has been the driving force behind our shared successes. It has been an honor to serve as your General Manager, and I am thankful for the support and unforgettable moments we have shared. I am confident that the future is bright for our Club. News From The Golf Course Dear Deering Bay Members,

Daniel Stover Director of Grounds d.stover@dbycc.com

Reflecting on 2023, we experienced unprecedented temperatures and historic rainfall. As we venture into 2024, South Florida is grappling with its own set of challenges – a wet and cold winter. The ElNino predictions for Miami have proven accurate, with forecasters anticipating this wetter-than-normal winter as early as the summer. Our dedicated staff has proactively prepared for these conditions, navigating through unexpectedly robust winter storms and prolonged cloudy periods. Despite these challenges, our turf is remarkably resilient.

In the face of cart path-only days and plugged golf balls in fairways, the impact of the persistent wet weather extends beyond the visible. The saturated conditions are exerting stress on our turf, which thrives on sunlight, air, water, and nutrients. Currently, sunlight and air are in short supply. Greens, for instance, require a minimum of 8 hours of sunlight daily for optimal growth, and plant roots need air to combat fungus and sustain normal metabolic processes. Unfortunately, recent weeks have seen an abundance of cloudy days, leaving our soil saturated and reducing air space for roots. These circumstances hinder turf growth, elevate disease pressure, and compromise overall turf health. In anticipation of these less-than-ideal growing conditions, we took proactive measures during the summer to fortify the course against the challenges ahead. Our preventative fungicide program has been reinforced this season, a tailored fertility program has been introduced to support low-light situations, and we adjusted mowing heights on greens earlier than usual to achieve our desired density ahead of the adverse weather. These strategic practices have translated into fewer diseases compared to previous years and an elevated level of health for our turf despite the unfavorable weather pattern. As the forecast indicates a continuation of the cloudy, wet pattern, our team remains vigilant. We will persist in scouting, monitoring, and planning to ensure that Deering Bay continues to maintain its visual allure and plays at its best. Should you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to me at d.stover@dbycc.com. Sincerely, Daniel Stover 13

News From Tennis Dear Deering Bay Members, I hope this message finds you well. I want to express my sincere gratitude to our members who have played a crucial role in making our pickleball program a resounding success.

Pedro Leon Director of Tennis p.leon@dbycc.com

Pickleball Lights: I am delighted to announce that the lights for our pickleball courts have officially been approved. This means that you can now enjoy pickleball until 10:00pm. While we are currently manually operating the lights each evening with the switch located at the back right corner of the courts, we are actively working on installing a timer for added convenience.

Pickleball Clinics: For those looking to enhance their pickleball skills, we offer clinics on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9am - 10am for adults. Additionally, our younger enthusiasts aged 4-10 can join us on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30pm - 5:30pm. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn and enjoy the game. Pickleball Gear at the Tennis Pro Shop: Visit our Tennis Pro Shop for the latest pickleball paddles and gear. We continue to order and receive new equipment to ensure you have access to top-notch gear for an optimal playing experience. Thriving Tennis Programs: I am pleased to share that our tennis programs are thriving, with the highest level of participation in both our men’s and women’s tennis leagues in Club history. The enthusiasm and engagement from our members contribute significantly to the success of these programs. We also have plenty of events throughout the month on weekends. Keep an eye on your email and the calendar on the Club’s App and Website for more information! I am genuinely excited about the positive trajectory of our Tennis and Pickleball program. Your support as members has been instrumental in making these developments possible, and I am truly grateful. Should you have any questions or if there’s anything specific you’d like to see in our tennis and pickleball offerings, feel free to reach out. Here’s to more exciting times on the courts! See you soon, Pedro 14

The Fitness Center welcomed a total of 6,082 visits from May-December 2023. Our Group Fitness Classes, with a total attendance of 5,986 during the same period, proved to be popular among members. We expanded our offerings with the addition of 31 Group Fitness Classes, including various specialty fitness events, catering to different levels.
