A Letter From The President Dear Deering Bay Members, Director of Food & Beverage Anacelis Torres and Executive Chef Surelys Negron Figueroa are preparing new lunch and dinner menus that will be rolled out this first week of June. Be sure to stop by the Dining Room to try out their new creations!

ORIGIN Construction has completed their exploratory excavation of the 19th Hole site, and we are now awaiting installation of fire safety and drainage lines. Once this underground work has been completed, we will be able to drive the piles in to begin work on the structure. For those of you that are sticking around this summer, expect to see some great progress being made on site.

During the first Golf Course Aerification from June 6th - June 17th, we hope to complete the scheduled improvements to the Driving Range will be installed including taller poles and netting, Cover Shot practice tents, and Astroturf hitting mats. This summer, we are looking forward to making great progress on the various projects taking place around the Club. Within the coming weeks, the Tennis Court lighting will be installed, and we are currently evaluating quotes for the repaving of the parking lot. The Club had another great month in April, highlighted by more golf events, strong merchandise sales, and continued membership growth. Year-to-date revenues have exceeded the prior year by over $1M and the management team has continued to do a great job at controlling operating expenditures and remaining under budget. Overall, the club has generated positive net operating income, exceeding prior year-to-date results by $180K. This month, we had another great discussion about the future golf course renovation with the help of Ron Despain, Troon’s Senior Vice President of Golf Course Development. We have been presented with multiple different options regarding the renovation, and we will keep you all updated as planning progresses. In June, we will begin planning for Phase II Renovations, which will heavily focus on interior design throughout the Clubhouse including the existing Dining Areas, both the Men’s and Women’s Locker Rooms, and the Clubhouse entrance. A Letter From The General Manager Dear Members, What an amazing season it has been here at Deering Bay! I am honored to have been a part of the Deering Bay Team for the majority of the season, and I have seen incredibly positive changes throughout every aspect of the Club. As you may have noticed, we have gained a few new team members over the past month. We are delighted to have each and every one of them join the Deering Bay Team, so be sure to introduce yourself if you see a new face! Fran Roach General Manager gm@dbycc.com

This season, we have welcomed so many great new members, new managers, and many new team members across all departments. I can say with certainty that the future for Deering Bay is bright!

For our members heading out of town for the summer, I wish you safe travels and a fun and relaxing few months wherever you go. We will miss you while you are gone, but we will be working on making Deering Bay even better than when you left it! As many of you may have seen in my recent email, both the Men’s and Women’s Steam Rooms are back up and running and are ready for you to enjoy! Clean towels are always located in each locker room for your convenience. As we transition into our summer months, the Dining Room will operate under normal hours, with the exception of Tuesday evenings, where the Dining Room will be closed for dinner. In lieu of our specialty buffet nights, we will begin offering taco specials during lunch on Tuesdays and an a-la-carte brunch menu on Sundays. We will however keep the Pasta night buffet on Thursdays due to the continued popularity. I wanted to congratulate our team members on their many personal accomplishments recently. Chris Alvarez, Ethan Duey, Angely Garcia, Robert Gomez, Erick Juvier, Noriel Lopez, and Kevin Rodriguez, all graduated from high school this month. Thank you all for your dedication to Deering Bay while completing your high school careers, we are rooting for you in this next phase of your life! I would also like to congratulate Sam Kaczynski, Jackson Kyser, and Nick Sconzo for graduating from the University of Miami this semester. These bright young men have a great future ahead of them! News From Golf Dear Members, May was an eventful month as we are wrapping up our peak season and transitioning to our summer months. We had the Junior Club Championship last weekend, where Trevor Tingle emerged as our 2022 Junior Club Champion after sinking a clutch par putt on the first playoff hole to win. We also concluded our Spring Junior Golf Session last week. We are very happy with how our junior events have turned out so far this year. The support on the parent side has driven tremendous participation – we thank you parents for getting your kids out there and involved.

May also marked the closing of our Women’s Golf Association and Men’s Golf Association seasons. We had fantastic turnout from our members in the WGA and MGA this year across all our different events. As stated above, we sincerely thank you all for your participation! We have already heard from some of our newer members and their families that they plan on participating next season, so be sure to stay tuned for opening day announcements later this summer. We expect even greater turnout next year! As we look forward into June, we have some important dates to keep on your calendar. We will begin Aerification June 6th – 17th. During that time we will making some improvements to the Driving Range as well. This means that the golf course and driving range will be closed throughout those dates. During this time, we will have modified golf shop hours (7:30am-3:00pm). Our normal new summer hours, starting June 1st will be (7:30am-5:00pm). We also will be hosting Junior Summer Camps after the course reopens. We will have camps the following weeks: June 21 – 24 June 28 – July 1 (STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics based Golf Camp with experiments) July 5 – July 8 July 26 – July 29 (STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics based Golf Camp with experiments) August 2 – 5 Thank you all for a wonderful golf season. News From The Golf Course Dear Members,

As some of you may have noticed we have gotten a little more aggressive with our mowers. The fairways, tees and approaches all appear to be getting cut lower and lower over the last few weeks. Although we haven’t lowered any heights, we have replaced our normal solid front rollers on our machines to a spiral slotted roller. The spiral rollers dig into the thatch layer of grass (layer of dying plant material causing a soft surface) and stand the grass up before being cut. It’s a minimally invasive technique I used to reduce this layer and create a better playing surface in the long run. Most of the scalping you are seeing is localized to our approaches which have the thickest thatch layer.

The scalped appearance is only here for the short term and although it is a bit unsightly now, this will eventually help firm up our playing surfaces, create a healthier stand of turf and dry out our shortgrass faster after a large rain event. You can expect to see less of these scalped looking areas within the coming weeks as our thatch layer reduces.

The picture on the left is a view from the bottom of the cutting unit. In the front of the cutting unit, you can see the spiral roller. The right-side picture shows the cutting direction straight up and down in a 12-6 orientation but also you can see the grooves of the spiral roller lines in the 2-8 orientation. May was a great month as we wrapped up our MGA and WGA seasons with Luncheons, hosted a record-breaking Mother’s Day Brunch, and will be ending the month with our Memorial Day Pool Party & Celebration!

Thank you to everyone that will be joining us for the Caymus Wine Dinner on June 8th, we sold out in less than two hours! It will be a great evening filled with fine wines and gourmet dishes. We are looking forward to hosting more Wine Dinners in the future, and more Wine Tastings like the one coming up at the end of the month on June 29th! To all of the women that have joined us for our Ladies Nights, we look forward to hosting you again, this time for karaoke, on Wednesday, June 22nd. News From Tennis Dear Members, Summer is here and we hope it finds you all in good health and spirits. First of all, we would like to thank all the tennis members for their continued support to the Tennis Program.

Second, we congratulate all the Ladies’ teams in their efforts and accomplishments. After winning here in Miami, our 6.0 & 7.0 USTA Senior Ladies teams went to the city of Orlando to compete for the Sectional Championship and both teams represented our Club very well; they made to the Semifinals (top 4 in all Florida). We feel very proud of them and these results make our club the top ladies program in town.

Third and no less important we also congratulate the 3.5 USTA Ladies team that ended their season in second place as well as the 3.5 USTA Men’s team, that in their first try were able to be competitive and win some of the team matches and we are very positive about their future. As a lot of members are going away for vacation, here at Deering Bay we are getting ready to start our Summer Tennis Program. In June we will continue offering different Juniors Group Lessons on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:00 to 6:00pm. On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:00am we are doing Ladies clinics, and on Tuesdays at 7:00pm we have the Men’s clinic. In addition to these clinics, we teach private lessons all week; for reservations and more information please call the Tennis Shop at 305-256-3366. The Tennis Shop summer hours of operation are Tuesday Through Sunday from 8:30am to 4:00pm. Once again one of our priorities this year is to keep the courts in the best conditions, to make the members proud of our facilities, so very often you will see us depositing clay to accomplish this goal. Most important of all, we would like to remind everyone to follow the tennis guidelines as well as our Club rules. Reservations should be made no earlier than two days in advance before 4:00 pm. After 4:00 pm and Mondays all walk-ins are welcome. On behalf on the Tennis Department have a good and safe summer! Pedro

News From Fitness Dear Members, We continue to make great progress and improvements in the gym. We recently had the ceiling painted in the gym and had blinds installed in the Aerobics Room. There are now cubbies available for members and guests to place their items while working out, as well as fruits to refresh you after a workout.

Starting Monday, May 30th, we will host our first High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) class with new instructor Ranzes. HIIT Classes will be held on Mondays at 9:00am and Fridays at 9:00am going forward. This will be a great cardiovascular workout coupled with strength training.

For our members that will be going out of town for the summer, I am happy to announce that you will be able to take many of Deering Bay’s Fitness Classes from anywhere thanks to ZOOM. Yoga, Butts & Cuts, Power Pilates, Miami FIT Body, Body Sculpting, and Power Flex are now available to be streamed live directly from the Aerobics Room. Check your email or the “announcements” section of the Deering Bay website to locate the ZOOM information for these classes. All classes here at the Deering Bay Fitness Center are created and developed with you in mind and taught by talented instructors who test your limits and inspire results!
