A Letter From The President
Dear Deering Bay Members,
I hope you all had a great month. Here at the Club, we ended the month on an incredibly high note with our 2023 Men’s Member-Guest Invitational. We hosted 96 players four our three day tournament which ended in an exciting three hole playoff with Stuart and Teddy Bornstein ending victorious.
Leo Chomiak President Board of DirectorsThank you to our Deering Bay staff for an amazing weekend full of great food, pristine course conditions, and wonderful hospitality. As we head into Spring, we are all looking forward to the rest of the golf season.
January was a strong month for the Club as we saw an increase in revenue of $233K year over year. Operating expenses were well controlled and under budget by $59K which led to a positive NOI of $119K, beating budget by $34K. January’s results were very positive for our Club and we are anticipating this to continue into February as we have had a busy month with both member events and outside events.
The 19th Hole continues to make great progress and this month we will see the installation of roof tiles, kitchen equipment, plumbing, and lighting. Our Food & Beverage team is working diligently to put together some amazing menus for our members to enjoy outside.
Phase II Clubhouse renovations are underway in various areas around the building. The Wine Cellar received new paint and the flooring is currently being worked on. The order for sound abatement ceiling tiles for the Bar Restaurant acoustics have been placed and should arrive withing the next few weeks. Upon arrival, they will be installed within 48 hours.
We have had a great start to 2023 here at Deering Bay, and we are looking forward to the rest of the season here.
Thank you, Leo

Hello members,
February is officially behind us and what a month it has been! We had an exciting month with many different events back to back. Our UM Sylvester Barbara Gelber Tournament on the 9th was a great fundraiser benefiting cancer research.
Craig Corcoran PGA Director of Golf c.corcoran@dbycc.comFeedback from the ladies we saw at that event was overwhelmingly positive. In February, Deering Bay participated in 3 separate interclub events and hosted 3 demo days.
Among all of this, we also hosted our Men’s Member-Guest Invitational. This event always takes a lot of effort from the entire Deering Bay Team to plan and execute, and we are thrilled with how the event turned out as well as the response we are getting from participants. Our 2023 Men’s Member-Guest Invitational Champions are Stuart and Teddy Bornstein. They clinched the victory after a 4-hole shootout against 12 other teams, ending up on the final hole versus the team of Chris Crystal and Juan Acevedo.
A huge thank you goes out to all of you who participated as well as all of our staff who worked tirelessly to make this weekend exceed expectations. It feels good to have hosted a successful event and, with the Member-Guest complete, we can now set our sights towards March and the plethora of things we have coming up:
March 2nd: WGA Twin Trophies Round 2
March 4th: Taylormade Demo Day 11am-3pm
March 12th: Couples Golf
March 15th: Men’s Interclub at Doral
March 16th: WGA Candyland
March 22nd-23rd: Women’s Member-Member
March 24th-25th: Men’s Spring Member-Member
March 31st: Srixon Demo Day 11am-3pm
It feels great to have executed some of our larger annual events so that we can continue to look forward and wrap up this season on a strong note. Thank you all for your continued support and involvement in golf operations.

News From The Golf Course
Dear Deering Bay Members,
With the tough weather we experienced to start the golf season here at Deering Bay, the second half of our season has been great for growing grass. The MemberGuest fell perfectly in the middle of a dry spell with an abundant amount of sun. The health of the turf held up well and we are seeing no lasting effects of the extra maintenance we delivered to it the entire week.
Daniel Stover Director of Grounds d.stover@dbycc.comYou may have noticed that the Monday after our event we poked small holes in our greens with our aerifiers. The small 1/8” tines pull a small core that we then blow off and pick up any spoils.
We try to save this process for a few select times a year as it does soften and slow green speeds down, but it is highly beneficial to the health of our putting surfaces. Typically, any ill effects from this process are gone within a few days.
Additionally, as this 20-day dry spell is forecasted to continue, you may start to notice that some of the Bermuda grass on our property will start to go off color. This happens during the dry spring months here at Deering Bay as our salty irrigation water starts to build within our slowly draining heavy soils. The rains that will come later this spring will flush out any salts we have accumulated throughout this dry spell.
As always don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns to d.stover@dbycc. com.

We are looking forward to our future events this month. On March 7th and 9th we have the one of the most important events of the year, our Women’s Member Guest. This will be a fun, competitive, and well organized tournament where our heavy hitters duke it out for bragging rights. On March 25th we are hosting a Men’s and Women’s Round Robin Scramble.
Besides the all events taking place within our program we also have Men’s and Women’s USTA and SFWDL matches being played both at home and away. Please call or pass by the Tennis Pro Shop for further information.
On behalf of your friends from the Pro-Shop, have a wonderful month.
