A Letter From The President
Dear Deering Bay Members,
I hope you are all having a great Fall so far. The season is in full swing here at Deering Bay with many golf events, tennis events, and other social events each week.
Leo Chomiak President Board of DirectorsSeptember revenues remained strong for the Club, exceeding prior year revenues by $230,000. Year to date, the Club continues to generate positive net operating income and we are well positioned to finish the year strongly as we approach our busy season. We have exceeded our prior year net operating income by $212,000. However, we experienced some unexpected challenges in the Food & Beverage Operations in the month of September, which
negatively impacted the results for the month. Focus and attention has been placed on resolving the issues and taking corrected actions, such training, staffing, processes, procedures, procurement, pricing, etc. Nonetheless, we expect to finish up the year in a strong financial position.
Phase II of the Clubhouse renovation is underway, beginning with the improvement of the acoustics in the new Bar Restaurant and shortly thereafter, the flooring throughout the Clubhouse, courtyard and staircases. There are number of other renovations planed for the Clubhouse and they will be scheduled around the holidays and events at the Club. We will keep the membership updated as these projects begin.
The concrete foundation for the 19th Hole was poured on November 1st. After a 24 hour cure period, vertical construction will commence to raise the actual structure. The expected completion date is now expected for March of 2023 due to the recent permitting/inspection issues. Our hope is to be able to makeup some of the lost time and finish the construction earlier – keep your fingers crossed.
As stated in Fran’s email earlier this week, a contract has been signed for the complete renovation of the existing Pool and surrounding Pool Deck area. This renovation will include a complete resurfacing, new heater, new paver tiles, and poolside cabanas.
We are in the process of acquiring estimates for a kiddie splash pad and kiddie zero-entry pool, we would greatly appreciate members input before we decide on which option to build. Please feel free to reach out Kylie at communications@dbycc.com with any feedback.
A Letter From The President
The Board of Directors along with the Golf and Greens Committee have completed interviews with four golf course architects in October. The committee will now select one and start the process of developing a master plan for the golf course renovation project. This process takes a few months, we hope to have something to present to the membership before the end of the season. We are looking forward to this exciting process at Deering Bay to provide our members with one of the premier golfing destinations in South Florida!
Thank you to everyone who has supported Deering Bay’s team member, Kique Gomez, on this season of NBC’s The Voice. Kique had his last day of work here this past week before he headed back to Los Angeles. Kique performed an amazing rendition of Outkast’s Hey Ya on Monday, October 31st for the Knockout Round, and will perform again during the first live show on Monday, November 14th! Voting will begin during the first live show on November 14th, so please join us in supporting this talented young man.
More exciting news for our Deering Bay family comes from Jose Buezas, member of Deering Bay who is traveling this first weekend of November for his first PGA Tour Qualifier at the Houston Open, and next week in St. Simons Island, Georgia. Jose was a professional golfer for 9 years on numerous professional golf tours. We send Jose all our best and cannot wait to watch him compete! To keep updated with Jose, you can follow his Instagram @josebuezas.
The Fall Town Hall Meeting is in the process of being planned for the end of November. At the meeting, we will provide a more detailed update on all the different projects and hopefully have renderings of the Clubhouse renovations being planned. Please be on the lookout for more information about the Fall Town Hall Meeting.
We are looking forward to a great November here at Deering Bay!
Leo Chomiak PresidentA Letter From The General Manager
Dear Deering Bay Members,
Happy November! The season is in full swing here at Deering Bay and we are looking forward to the many holidays that are right around the corner.
I would like to introduce our newest team member, Restaurant Manager Dwayne Walden, to the Deering Bay family! Dwayne comes to us with extensive Food & Beverage management experience from the Ritz Carlton Coconut Grove, the Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne, and most recently, the W Miami. Since starting on October 17th, Dwayne has been focused on learning the operations here, as well as interviewing, hiring, and training new team members. Dwayne has big ideas for the Food & Beverage Department here, and we are so excited to see his ideas come to life! Please join us in offering Dwayne a warm welcome next time you stop by the Dining Room!
Fran Roach PGA General Manager gm@dbycc.comI am happy to announce that the November 2022 Team Member of the Month Award goes to Isaac Thomas! Isaac has been a dedicated member of the Deering Bay team for almost 17 years and has been a welcome constant for our membership. Since taking on a new role as the Dining Room Captain back in May, Isaac has been vital in taking our many new team members under his wing and training them to the Deering Bay standard.
As of today, Tuesday November 1st, we are excited to welcome back Key Parking Services as our designated valet company here at the Clubhouse. Many of our members will be happy to see some familiar faces back at Deering Bay after a few years!
The future is bright here at Deering Bay!

Happy DBYCC Members:
“Compared to our other club, the staff at Deering Bay is on point! We are excited you are updating the facility and making it more “hang out” friendly. The golf course has been in pretty good condition the few times I played. Happy the driving range is also getting an update. See you soon!” Member Review
“We are fairly new members and have definitely enjoyed the club. Looking forward to all future renovations that are in the works. I must say, the staff that we encounter have been wonderful! They are VERY friendly and the fact they always recognize us and acknowledge my husband & I by name is very welcoming. We look forward to many years of membership at Deering.” Member Review
If there is anything our team can do to make your experience at Deering Bay more enjoyable, please do not hesitate to reach out or pass by the front office.
Cheers! Daniella

Hello members,
November is here! We are excited to have everyone back here at Deering Bay . As we enter our busy season, there are a few dates we want to put on everyone’s calendar.
As always, we will have our regular WGA events on Thursdays throughout the month. We will also be hosting a Women’s Social Interclub here at Deering Bay on November 8th. This month also marks our Fall MemberMember Tournament.
The timeline for the Fall Member-Member is as follows:
Thursday, November 10th: Stag Dinner
Friday, November 11th: Practice Round
Saturday, November: 12th: First Round
Sunday, November 13th: Final Round
In addition to the Fall Member-Member, there will also be a Men’s Interclub event out at Lago Mar. Signups for the event at Lago Mar have been filled but be on the lookout for our next signup for the December Interclub at Ocean Reef. We prioritize registering members who have not played in a previous Interclub so that the most people get the opportunity as possible.
We also have a couple’s golf event coming up on Saturday, November 20th. More information including signups will be coming out for that in the next few days.
Many of you will have received a breakdown of important dates throughout the year but we will continue highlighting dates throughout our newsletters and emails to let you know what events are right around the corner. It’s going to be a busy year, and we are very excited to get into some of these larger events and really look forward to seeing you all out there!

Dear Deering Bay Members,
Daniel Stover Director of Golf Course Maintenance d.stover@dbycc.comManaging greens is about creating a consistent surface. In order to do that you need to consider both the playability of the surface (ball roll, wobble, firmness) and the health of the grass living on that surface. In order to maintain health at the most basic level grass needs sunlight, water, nutrients and air porosity within the soil to thrive. Water, nutrients and air porosity are normally consistent on all surfaces. There might be minor differences in pore space among greens or rain that may have happened on one side of the course but not the other but for the sake of discussion all three are consistent.
The inconsistencies on golf course putting greens are generally due to sunlight. With sufficient sunlight a green’s surface can be managed differently than a green that is not receiving enough sunlight. The more sunlight a plant receives the more carbohydrates it can produce, leaving more energy for the plant to carry out processes and remain healthy. All this extra energy means we can mow at lower heights without affecting health. But since we as golfers need a consistent surface, you cannot manage each green to perform at its maximum level from how much sunlight it receives. This would mean each green would play completely differently from the next.
If we manage all greens the same but based off from the performance of a green like #10 (which receives 10 hours of sunlight per day during season) then we would end up with a handful of greens being healthy, some showing signs of stress throughout the year and then some would have major turf loss. The only way to keep a consistent playing surface and sustain health is to manage our greens according to our weakest, which are #4 and #13. Without the right products applied or mown at the appropriate height a portion of these greens would have turf loss.
Unfortunately, to increase the amount of sunlight these greens receive would mean obtaining a permit through DERM to prune down the height of the surrounding mangroves. It’s a sizeable investment that I am currently getting pricing on but pruning down these areas would ultimately mean better playing surfaces for our entire property.
If you have any questions, feel free to write me at d.stover@dbycc.com.

Dear Deering Bay Members,
As we get into the heart of the season, we are pleased to say that we have a very fun and competitive tennis program here at Deering Bay. However, as sad as we are to say goodbye to a wonderful summer, it is not without saying hello to a promising new season.
Firstly, we would like to give a big warm welcome to all the USTA and SFWDL captains and co-captains, as well as the WTA officers that will be working together with just one goal in mind; to make tennis at Deering Bay better than ever.
Our USTA, SFWDL Teams, and Tennis Program are off to an excellent start! The ladies and men have been fighting hard in their matches and our Tennis Program is full of clinics, lessons, and events.
November will not be different; it is setting up to be a great month. For our ladies and men, we have SFWDL and USTA clinics and matches almost every day of the month, for our juniors we are offering clinics on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, and in addition to these regular clinics we also offer private lessons for every member.
This month is full of events, we are initiating for the first time ever Mens and Womens Doubles Handicap Challenge Ladders and celebrating the Womens Doubles Club Championship (6.5 USTA level) as well as Men’s Doubles Club Championship (7.0 USTA level).
All of our clinics, matches and events have been going great week after week, courts are constantly in use and reservations are made daily therefore we would like to thank our members for supporting and helping us to build the best tennis program ever!
For clinics, events, merchandise sales, and more of the tennis program please keep a look out for flyers and emails or contact the Tennis Pro Shop. We would all like to wish everyone a happy tennis season and we look forward to seeing new and familiar faces alike.

Dear Deering Bay Members,
November is going to be spectacular for our fitness community. October was a solid and productive month, but I am projecting November to be one for the ages.
Stephen Tilton Director of Fitness fitnesscenter@dbycc.comWe continue to have record number of members utilizing the new Fitness Center and our newly revamped and reprogrammed fitness classes. Please remember to RSVP for the classes online or in-app as they are starting to get extremely busy.
I am still getting to know and love the membership here at Deering Bay and trying to accommodate the wide range of fitness levels we possess. With that being said, the 20 group classes will be in full swing starting in November. I will also be adding some extremely talented personal trainers to our team soon.
The Fitness Center will also be hosting many events throughout this month. Please be on the lookout for detailed fliers to enhance your fitness experience.
Over the next few weeks, I really expect the fitness program to be at an elite status, so please join us on our life changing journey! Let’s continue to be supportive of one another and carry this momentum into a lifestyle change here at Deering Bay!
I hope you all enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving with your friends and families
In health and wellness, Stephen Tilton
