A M E S S A G E FROM THE PRESIDENT & THE GENERAL MANAGER
W Steven Sonenreich President
e usher in the start of the holiday season with our renovation fully underway. As promised, our contractor was prepared to begin work on the project as soon as we received our permits, and immediately started the demo work around the clubhouse. We also began relocating the royal palms from the future 19th hole site. Our golfers will appreciate the location of the ones we planted behind #18 green as it really frames the hole from the fairway. Our rerouting plans and internal operational adjustments appear to be working well so far. We appreciate everyone’s continued cooperation in adhering to all the new changes to access the Club’s various areas, especially in regard to personal golf cart and vehicle parking. Please be patient with the noise and dust, as we are doing our best to minimize the inconvenience to you as you utilize the Club. On the subject of parking, with the start of construction the lower level is now under construction and has rendered the elevator unavailable for member use. To accommodate those of you requiring handicap assistance, we are most pleased to reintroduce our valet services beginning on Tuesday, November 3rd. Their hours will vary based on the Club’s hours of operation. As we begin offering valet parking, we will be sectioning off a section of the main parking lot dedicated to valet. This will mitigate risk for both the Club and our parking provider. We ask that you do not self-park in the valet section. Member activity has certainly picked up over the past few weeks. This is partly attributed to the return of our vacationing members, and the change in our policy to now allow guests. Golf, Tennis and Dining have all seen a healthy increase in participation. It is good to see so many members starting to use the Club again, even if it is from behind a mask! Our Meet the Candidate Night will be held on Tuesday, November 3 at 6:00 pm. This year’s meeting will be held via Zoom to allow everyone the chance to participate and abide by the required social distancing for meetings. For those of you who miss it, we will be recording the session and will have it available to you on the member’s portal of the website. We want you to be aware that during this very challenging year, our Board of Directors has met 14 times, and will have at least two more meetings in an effort to navigate through these turbulent times. We want to thank the entire Board for their time and commitment to the Club. As we prepare to elect three members to the Board of Directors, it’s a great time to think about how each of you, as members, can participate in the future of our Club by serving as a member on one of our standing committees. The standing committees requiring volunteers are as follows; Finance, Membership, Golf/ Greens, Tennis/Fitness, House and By-Laws. Each standing committee serves in an advisory capacity and provides input to the Board of Directors on matters

November will see us begin to ramp up our member activities with the WGA and MGA in full swing, the Fall Member- Member, Master’s Par 3 Tournament and Thanksgiving Dinner to name a few. We hope that you include the Club in your holiday plans, and wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving.

MEMBERSHIP M E S S A G E
I
’m honored and thrilled to be your new Director of Membership & Marketing. I call myself a Floridian, however, I’ve had the privilege of living in many different areas including Hawaii, Maine, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, the Middle East and most recently Chicago, IL. Out of all of these locations, nothing compares to driving down Old Cutler Road and into Deering Bay which took my breath away. The vegetation, landscaping, and overall beauty is truly something to behold. I can already tell Deering Bay is a very special oasis.
Shannon Mattes Director of Membership & Mktg
I bring numerous years of Club experience to Deering Bay and have dived right in. In my first week I’ve become familiar with many of the processes and projects which come with this role and have started on the steady, consistent path towards improving and building on what is already in place. My goals are many, but they are not only centered on bringing in new members to the Club, but also to serve our existing members with just as much effort. You will always receive my prompt service and I’ll always be transparent with you. A big thank you to the Deering Bay staff for welcoming me with open arms, and for their patience while I navigate this new role. Everyone has been so gracious and extremely helpful! Please remember, our Member Ambassador Referral Program is still available which offers up to $2,500 in member credit when your friends and/or family members join the Club. Now that guest restrictions have been lifted, it’s a great time to provide your friends and family with a safe and secure environment while we continue to tackle COVID-19. The Club has implemented the upmost detailed safety measures within each area to ensure you and your guests feel comfortable and confident while enjoying your home away from home. Our Preview Program also continues to grow with new families joining the Club looking to spend their time in a relaxing sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Under the Preview Program, folks can test drive the Club for up to 6 months before joining as a full member. If you know someone who would be a great candidate for membership I’d welcome the opportunity to meet them in person or virtually. Deering Bay is always trying to find new ways for our members to connect but we are also open to suggestions from our Members. Please feel free to contact me with any suggestions as to what type of events you, our Members, want to have here! My door is always open. We have a great team and we’re always striving to be better with you in mind. Please congratulate...
JOHN MARSHALL who is the winner of the “Membership Ambassador Raffle” for the Month of November. Mr. Marshall, thank you for your referral. Please see Daniella in the Membership Office to receive your prize of a Brunch for two with mimosas or a Golf Foursome. *This voucher must be claimed within 30 days of announcement. This Voucher is non-transferable and must be fulfilled within one year of receiving it.
If you see me around the Club please introduce yourself and say hello! I’ve met many of you already and look forward to meeting you all! Warmest Regards, Shannon Mattes Director of Membership & Marketing NOVEMBER 2020 • 6

A M E S S A G E FROM THE F&B DIRECTOR
L
eaves aren’t the only thing changing this fall at Deering Bay. I share the same excitement as my staff in the dining room and kitchen as we welcome the first stages of the renovation. Even more exciting has been the feedback that I have received from many members already over the new fall menu. With many healthier and trendier options available, there has been so much positive feedback from many of you that I have shared with our team.
Nicholas Perusina Food & Beverage Director
As we move forward throughout the beginning stages of the renovation, I’d like to remind everyone of the dining options we currently have available. Our Courtyard is available (based on seating capacity and weather) for members that prefer to sit outside. For casual dining, the temporary Bar & Lounge will now be located inside the Pool Terrace and will follow current Bar & Lounge dress code guidelines. Our Main Dining Room and Crystal Room will operate the same as usual. Beginning November 8, we will feature our Sunday Pop-Up Grill from 5 PM – 8 PM that will feature rotating weekly menus with server-attended buffet and grill. We will begin with a traditional All-American BBQ menu with our grill in the center of the courtyard with hot and cold items available off the buffet inside the Main Dining Room. Celebrate Thanksgiving with us either in-person or via Curbside Takeout. We will be offering a pre-fix a la carte menu from 12 PM – 4 PM on Thanksgiving Day with many traditional favorites. We will also have a special Thanksgiving “Family Style” menu available for Curbside Takeout. Preorders for our Curbside Takeout menu will begin October 26 and be taken through November 19. Both menus, and the order sheet for Curbside, are available on the website. As I’ve mentioned each and every month, we will do everything we can to continue bringing back as many of the familiar Food & Beverage activities that you are familiar with, while also making the experience and quality of items more elevated and an overall better experience.
Cheers! Nick Perusina Director of Food & Beverage

s summer unwinds, we are pleased to say that we have a very fun and competitive tennis program. However, as sad as we are to say goodbye to a wonderful summer, it is not without saying hello to a promising new season.
Pedro Leon Tennis Director
First, we want to congratulate the USTA 3.5 senior ladies team who once again brought home the championship title for the 2020 season. We also would like to give a big warm welcome to all the USTA and SFWDL captain and co-captains, as well as the WTA officers that will be working together with just one goal in mind; to make tennis at Deering Bay better than ever. Our USTA, SFWDL Teams and Tennis Program are off to an excellent start! The ladies have been fighting hard in their respective matches and our Tennis Program is full of clinics, lessons and events. November promises a great month. For our ladies we have SFWDL and USTA clinics and matches almost every day of the month, for our juniors we have pee-wee and junior clinics Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. In addition to these regular clinics, we also offer private lessons. All our clinics, matches and events have been doing great week after week, courts are constantly in use and reservations are made daily. Therefore, we would like to thank our members for supporting our tennis program. For clinics, events, merchandise sales and more of the tennis program, please keep a look out for flyers, e-blasts or contact the tennis shop. We would all like to wish everyone a happy tennis season and we look forward to seeing new and familiar faces alike. Sincerely, Pedro Leon Director of Tennis
