he sun continues to shine bright as we get ready to ring in the New Year. We thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing you at all of our upcoming events. 2016 has ended as one of our most successful years to date. We’ve seen an increase in family memberships and with the Young Executive Initiative, lead by your Boards’ new Vice President, John Marshall, we hope to see it rise even more. Across all departments we’ve been seeing more members than ever due to increased participation, especially in: DBKT (Deering Bay Kids & Teens), Dining and Social and more registrations for our Summer Camp, Fall Festival and the Annual Holiday party. We love that you love to be here and participate in all that we have to offer. The Golf and Grounds Department continue to demonstrate why our signature Arnold Palmer course is so prestigious and why only at DBYCC you’ll be able to get in your best game ever. Not to say it was a breeze this year, due to the challenges of the 19th hole being closed and increased MPOA dues, but we thank you for your patience during this time. The Tennis and Fitness departments have added exciting new classes and in order to meet everyone’s busy schedule, more flexible times for you to come in. Your Executive Chef continues to surpass everyone’s expectations, members and staff alike, with his new quarterly dining menus, set up with the elegance of beautiful ice sculptures for ambiance that can be seen at many of our Member Mixers and Holiday Brunches. These are only some of the many reasons why I would like to take this time to recognize our amazing staff, whom without, any of this would have not been possible. We are very fortunate to have a team who has made us proud and take great pleasure in the success of DBYCC. I want to personally thank them for all of their excellent support and guidance throughout the years and many more to come.

Did you taste what Chef Luke Livingston prepared last night? “Wow, the service was wonderful!” These are the type of comments we are receiving. The buzz of happy members makes it more important than ever for you and your guests to call ahead to make dining reservations so you don’t miss out! Not only does this allow for us to serve you better, but our kitchen staff can prepare ahead of time if we know that you have allergies or just don’t like certain foods period. We’ll be able to properly execute a meal made just for you that you and your guests won’t soon forget! As you know the Board of Directors elections were held in early December, and I personally want to thank Maurice Kutner for his participation. I strongly encourage him and all members to join a committee so we can hear what you have to say about how to make your Club the best it can be. Both Richard Pollack and Sarah Kuhn were re-elected to the Board; and we would now like to welcome our newest member, Jimmie Dresnick, which brings us to a grand total of nine board members. The officers who were elected are as follows: David Baron, President John Marshall, Vice President Larry Woerner, Treasurer Ferne Kalstone, Secretary Congratulations everyone! I sincerely wish you and yours a happy, healthy and prosperous 2017! I look forward to seeing everyone around the Club and as always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me at 305.964.4048 - k.harmon@ dbycc.com.

All the best,

Karen General Manager/COO

he most critical factor for success in a private club is success in membership. Did you know it also happens to be the most fun? While the staff, amenities and location of Deering Bay make the Club very enticing, you, our dedicated members, seal the deal by creating an experience unlike any other. You are ambassadors, friends, neighbors, fellow Club members and leaders in the South Florida community. You represent some of the most innovative minds, exceptional personalities and dedicated spirits. This is the year to do it! Why not invite your friends and family to join this unique group? We believe new member referral is the foundation of our Club. We want to be the most desirable Country Club in Miami. We want to offer the best service and amenities possible. We want you, our members, to continue to feel pride in your Club. After all, you are the best source for new members! So why not invite your friends and associates to take a closer look at our special piece of paradise? We agree! In a Club owned by the members, it only makes sense for you to help choose the next generation of members. Our Member Referral System makes it easy to refer a friend or family member.

We are all very proud of Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club, so let us help you refer a member today. Chose whatever method is easiest for you (See below) and we’ll take care of the rest! 1. Fill out the form on our website at www.dbycc.com 2. Call the membership office at 305-964-4046 with their name and information. 3. Stop by the office and tell us in person. 4. The Club will send your invitee an invitation to membership along with a chance to spend a Day at the Bay with golf and lunch or activity of their choice. 5. Your invitee will be our VIP for the day and we will introduce them to the Club and they will thank you for the experience they had.

Best Regards,

Laura Director of Membership

Congratulations! Robert Sperber

Winner of the Membership Ambassador Raffle for December Thank you for your referral. Please see Laura or Daniella in the Membership Office to receive your prize of Mini Brunch for two with mimosas or a Golf Foursome.

“The staff remembers us every time we return to Deering and make it feel like our home away from home. Our friends have enjoyed visiting us in our second home and marvel at how seamless the transition has been. Our family enjoys all aspects of the club, the wildlife, the diversity and cultural offering of Miami, but most importantly the feeling that we really are returning home every time we escape the Canadian winter.” -Shuchi Stanger, Full Golf Congratulations Samantha Mase for achieving the Women Sling/Pole Spear World Record 9.3 kg, 20.5lbs. C H E F’ S RECIPE

Strawberry Baked Brie Prep time: 15 Minutes Cook time: 15 Minutes Serves: 4

“A great recipe to share with friends and family over the holiday especially while watching a good game of football!” INGREDIENTS • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed • 1 8oz wheel brie cheese • 1 8oz container strawberry preserves • 1 8oz package assorted crackers • 1 8oz package assorted nuts • 1 8oz package assorted dried fruits • 1 egg beaten

DIRECTIONS 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a sheet pan. 2. Lay the puff pastry on a sheet pan. Place the brie in the center of the pastry dough. Top the brie with strawberry preserves and bundle the pastry dough around the brie. Sort of like you are wrapping a present. Just make sure you cover the entire brie so the cheese and/or the strawberry doesn’t leak out. 3. Brush the pastry with egg. With the extra pieces of puff pastry you can use a cookie cutter and cut different shapes out to decorate the brie. JANUARY 2017 • 16

4. Put the brie in the freezer for about an hour this will harden the cheese so it doesn’t get to soft when you bake. 5. Bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees. 6. When golden brown place on a cutting board. Place crackers, nuts and cheese neatly around cutting board.

Enjoy!
