A M E S S A G E FROM THE PRESIDENT
W
hat a great time to be experiencing winter in South Florida and what a great time to be at Deering Bay. If you’ve been away you are missing out on some great activities. We just concluded our Men’s Annual MemberGuest Invitational golf tournament and we had our largest turn out on record. Everyone raved about the condition of the course, the way the tournament was organized and the great food service. Thanks to Karen Harmon, Jimmy Germana, Dave Ragan, Max Miranda, Luke Livingston and all their support staff for making this year’s tournament such a success. Congratulations go out to Cameron Tallon and his guest, Brant DeLongy, who played great and won the whole tournament on an extra playoff hole. Also, a special mention goes out to Eric Feldman and his guest, Ian Seitel for their runner up finish. Next up on our Men’s Golf schedule is the Spring Member-Member tournament. On the Women’s Golf schedule there are several tournaments coming up: The Twin Trophy, the first ever Battle for the Bay and the Annual Member-Guest in April. The women also had a very successful golf fundraiser last month, participating in the Race for the Cure benefiting the UM Sylvester Cancer Link Center in Memory of Barbara Gelber. If you would like to get involved in any of our golf activities or just looking for help with your game, our professional staff is here to help with lessons and will be happy to find you playing partners if you do not have a regular game. Everyone seems to agree that our course is in the best shape it has been in and our Golf Committee is working with Jimmy Germana to address issues with our water quality, improving the sand traps, and other issues as they arise. Besides golf, we are busy with activities like our Wine Tastings, Book Club, Fitness Classes, Drop-In and Round Robin tennis games. Please check our calendar and watch your emails as our house committee, led by Sarah Kuhn, is doing a great job with scheduling events and activities covering a broad spectrum of interests. We also have Member Mixers every month which is a great way to meet current and new members as well as enjoy a variety of Chef Luke’s presentations. As for our Board of Directors, Bruce Rubin has resigned; however, he is being replaced by Dick Griesemer, who will be a great addition to the Board. I want to thank Bruce for all his contributions and look forward to his input and continuing the work he has started in trying to create a community membership for Deering residents.

Our membership department has created a new initiative to have your friends join. For each member you introduce to the Club, who then becomes an active member, you will be eligible for up to a $3,000 credit on your dues statement, depending on the type of membership signed up for. The best way for our Club to be most successful is for everyone to be a Deering Bay ambassador to help attract new members. Our Long-Range planning Committee is meeting to discuss ways to improve our Club and prioritize the upgrades we want to make. We met last month with the City Attorney of Coral Gables to talk about what we need to do to reopen the 19th Hole, as well as get the City’s assistance to work with the county regarding the land lease on part of our golf course, which expires in 2030. We have held two open forums to try and explain our thoughts about our ongoing negotiations with Troon and whether or not hiring them to help manage our Club is a good idea. These negotiations are still ongoing as of the publication of this article, and no decision has been made yet. As always, we are ready to answer any questions you might have. Please feel free to email me at david@ bhfloridalaw.com, or talk to me at the Club.
Best Regards,
David Baron

Prep time: 15 Minutes Cook time: 6 Minutes (3 Minutes on each side) Serves: 4
“Quick, easy and very tasty! These grilled lamb chops are easy to prepare and even more fun to eat.”
INGREDIENTS • 1 tbs. smoked paprika
• 1 onion, thinly sliced
• 2 tsp. salt
• 2 tbs. olive oil
• 1 tsp. chopped mint
• 2 lbs. lamb chops
• 1/2 tsp. black pepper • 1 tbs. minced garlic
DIRECTIONS
CHEF TIPS
1. Mix together the smoked paprika, salt, pepper, mint, garlic, onion, and olive oil in a bowl. Add lamb, toss until coated and marinate in refrigerator for 2 hours.
Wrap the bones with tin foil so they don’t burn on the grill. When you plate the lamb chops the bones will look clean when serving.
2. Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat.
Save some of the lamb marinade and mix with your favorite vegetables. Grill them up and serve with the lamb.
3. Remove lamb from the marinade. Grill to desired doneness, about 3 minutes per side for medium.
Enjoy!
