A M E S S A G E FROM THE PRESIDENT & THE GENERAL MANAGER
A Steven Sonenreich President
s we enter the month of April, we should give pause to remember how much has happened in the past year here at Deering Bay. When you received your April edition of On The Bay in 2020, the Club had been closed for less than two weeks and there was a lot of uncertainty surrounding what was in store for us. By the end of April Golf and Tennis were up and running under some stringent guidelines. Soon after that came take-out meals, then indoor dining and the opening of the pool. We all learned to social distance, accessorize our masks to match our outfits, and use a lot of sanitizer. Fast forward to today and we have adapted pretty well. We are playing a lot of golf and tennis, exercising outdoors and venturing out into public a little more often thanks to our ability to be vaccinated. We are still waiting for the county to lift the requirement of single rider carts, so we can accommodate more players and to open the locker rooms. The renovation continues to move forward. Work in the past month focused on replacing aged AC units on the mezzanine level and the beginning of the Fitness Center and Group Exercise Room expansion with the drainage, pilings and footers. The demo of the existing wall will come after that. We are happy to have our AC back as we head into the warmer months. The 19th Hole permit will hopefully have been approved by the time you read this. It has passed all but one reviewer and was only pending the approval from the Structural Plan Review. As soon as we have that we will begin work in that area. We are also working on the furniture, fixtures and equipment orders for the various areas. This would include items such as the tables and chairs for the bar/lounge and fitness equipment for the gym. As expected, the warmer temperatures, sunny days and longer days have helped our progress on the greens. They have shown significant improvement as Jimmy Germana had indicated. As we head into our prime growing season, they will continue to get better daily. A more meaningful long term fix to remove the moisture barriers surrounding the greens will happen this summer during the closures on the greens that are impacted the most by them. Our summer closure schedule can be found elsewhere in this edition. Financially, the Club is having a strong first quarter. We are seeing it in merchandise sales, as members spent their remaining 2020 FB Minimum, golf rounds, tennis lessons and food and beverage. In March we saw a shift in dining habits as more members are being vaccinated and are now back to enjoying the Club in person and ordering less Curbside meals. Accounting is currently undergoing our annual audit by RSM and we expect those results sometime in May. Our Membership department continues to see strong interest from prospective members. The number of families touring and joining the Club is very encouraging. It is exciting to see the photos in the administrative lobby area of the new members and their families. It is even better to meet and get to know all of them as well.

Many members have already shared their summer plans with us and that they will be traveling to cooler climes for the summer. We will still have activities for those that will be here at Deering Bay. For the kids, our golf and tennis summer clinics will closely resemble last year’s program in lieu of a more traditional summer camp as will our DBKT offerings. For the adults, we will offer cooking demonstrations and wine tastings from Food and Beverage.
Peter Serena General Manager

M E S S A G E CONTINUED
The Preview Membership continues to be the entry level membership many are taking prior to moving up to Full Golf or Young Executive. Coming up in the next few months will be our Annual Member Satisfaction Survey. This will give you all a chance to provide feedback to the Board of Directors and management on what you enjoy most about Deering Bay and to offer suggestions on things to help make the Club a better place for all. We will communicate more on that in the coming weeks.

o much of the full Club experience is enjoyed outside. Does your membership level offer the full splendor of Deering Bay and Troon Prive’? If not, now is a great time to think about upgrading your membership. Maybe the Golf Course has been calling your name (with summer vacations not far away).
Daniella Tosta Membership Manager
Golf is a sport for a lifetime and at Deering Bay there is always something happening at the Golf Course. Sign-up for some lessons, join the Men’s or Ladies Golf Association, participate in one of their many tournaments and events, or stop by the Practice Range for a Callaway or Taylor Made Demo Day, and spend some time perfecting your swing. It’s a lifestyle that is hard to beat. Give me a call and we can discuss the best membership level for you and your family. Did I mention that we currently have a $15,000 initiation fee discount and several payment plans to make upgrading even easier? This is going to be a limited time offer, so take advantage now! I look forward to speaking with you. Also if you have new neighbors, a close friend or family members who have been conversing with you about joining the Club, I encourage you to have them contact me for complete membership details. As your Membership Manager, I will guide prospective new members through tours, questions and any nuances of the process to help them make their decision easier. If you would like an application for a potential new member, feel free to pick up a membership packet from me at the Front Desk. Please congratulate... ELYSE MESSINGER who is the winner of the “Membership Ambassador Raffle” for the Month of APRIL. Mrs. Messinger, thank you for your referral. Please see Daniella in the Membership Office to receive your prize of a Brunch for two with mimosas or a Golf Foursome. *This voucher must be claimed within 30 days of announcement. This Voucher is nontransferable and must be fulfilled within one year of receiving it. Warm regards, Daniella Tosta Membership Manager
Do you have plans to travel this summer? If your plans include golf, be sure to take advantage of the WORLD OF TROON Troon has a worldwide directory of Troon managed courses and Cliff Drysdale Tennis Facilities. Be sure to go to the Prive’ Privilege website: https://www.troon.com/member-programs or stop by the Front Desk to pick up the new one page directory with a QR code that opens up all the available facilities you can enjoy as a Troon Prive’ member club.

A M E S S A G E FROM THE F&B DIRECTOR
A Nicholas Perusina Food & Beverage Director
s we roll into spring, and hopefully nicer and dryer weather, we are continuing to see more and more members come out to dine with us again. We are still following all CDC and county guidelines for social distancing and taking temperatures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 at Deering Bay amongst staff, members, and your guests. With such an increase in members coming in to dine, we ask that everyone continue to make reservations prior to dining with us so that we can ensure clean and sanitized tables. As mentioned last month, our Courtyard area is still very popular to sit and eat. We ask that reservation requests for the Courtyard be made days in advance as this area fills up quickly, especially on the weekends. We will do our best to honor your requests. We hope that everyone who came out for our second Trinchero Wine Tasting on March 23rd and special Seder dinner on March 27th had a great time. We are continually trying to incorporate some of the holidays and traditions that the Club is accustomed to in a safe and comfortable way. Chef Jon has prepared an excellent a la carte Easter Brunch menu set for April 4th 11am – 4pm. If you have not yet made your reservation, please do so, as space is limited. On April 4th, we will also have our 19th Hole Grill open downstairs next to the Golf staging area from 11am – 5pm for anyone looking to grab a quick bite. We will be closing Food & Beverage at 5pm on April 4th as we have in years past, and will reopen on Tuesday April 6th. Be sure to join us on Taco Tuesdays for our server attended Taco Buffet featuring a rotation of themed items such as chips & salsa, enchiladas, rice & beans, churros, rice pudding, and of course build your own tacos. On Saturday May 1st we will be holding a Kentucky Derby watch party in the Pool Terrace, more details in the coming weeks. As always, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to work on preventing the spread of COVID-19 through temperature checks and social distancing. And as we enter into warmer weather, please remember to adhere to the dress code at all meal periods.
Cheers! Nick Perusina Director of Food & Beverage

A N O T E FROM GOLF
Spring is on the way! It’s the time of year when the air is warmer, trees are greener, days are longer, and nights are shorter. It’s time to get out of that winter funk and spring forward into a new season. Before you know it, school will be out and summer will be in full swing. I know I can’t wait.
Dave Ragan III Head Golf Professional
With Daylight Saving Time in place, spring is also a time many people make changes to their equipment. The hottest in equipment this season includes Callaway’s Epic Speed drivers, fairway metals, Big Bertha ‘21 and Odyssey Putters. Taylor-Made SIM Series drivers, fairway metals & hybrids and XXIO’s for all have been extremely popular. Your clothing, headwear and sunscreen are also things that will change this time of year. Don’t forget it’s never too early to start thinking about summer plans. Summer golf clinics are always a popular activity around the Club. This is a perfect time to introduce new or experienced juniors to golf and the Club. Spring is also a time to make the proper changes to your swing with our award winning golf instructor John Pallot or one of our other outstanding teaching professionals.
March Tournament Results: Women’s Match Play Championship - The champagne was flowing after Judy Maynes edged Geraldine Blakely to win the ’21 Women’s Match Play Club Championship. Maynes win was her 2nd in this event after she won the title in ’18. Twin Trophy - The Twin Trophy is the WGA’s Team Match Play Championship. The event has reached the semi-finals, with these teams advancing; Sandy Halpern & Shari Spector, Judy Maynes & Willie Siert, Kay Waltman & Viera Kovac, and Dede Sloto & Faye Koniver. Kings v. Queens Couples Tournament - The Kings v. Queens is a guy’s v. gal’s match play event; a spirited group of Queens was victorious over the Kings 69.5 to 55.5. The winning Queens were, Karen Levine, Ellen Marks, Leila Harrington, Debra Frank, Gail Rosenberg, Judy Maynes, Kay Waltman, Ampy Alvarez, Risa Connolly, Dede Sloto, Pam Wolofsky, Kim Kaskel, Ligia Crystal, and Geraldine Blakely. ummer is very much on its way and here on our clay courts we are making history every day. Last month, all clinics, lessons, USTA and SFWDL matches continued as scheduled. Our teams have had a great season and lots of competitions. All the ladies have worked extremely hard and we would like to congratulate them for the great job that they have been doing.
Pedro Leon Tennis Director
April will be a very eventful month. Besides all the competitive matches that we will be hosting, on Thursday the 15th at 7:00pm we are also offering a Pretzels & Beers Tennis Night Out, and on Saturday the 24th at 9:00am, a Family Round Robin event. More information will be coming on that one soon. We hope to see you there! In addition to the advice on tactics that we have previously mentioned for competing against counterpunchers style players, I will give you one more: • Play Your Game It is easy to abandon your game style and tailored pattern of play. It is important that you maintain discipline by maximizing your strengths and executing your patterns to the best of your ability. As we are getting busier every day, we would like to remind all the members to make court reservations for play time. Also do not forget to check in and to get your assigned court in the Tennis Shop. With all this being said, we would like to wish you a safe and wonderful month.
