A M E S S A G E FROM THE PRESIDENT
I
want to first take this opportunity to thank Max Miranda for his many years of dedicated service to our Club and wish him well in his new endeavors.
Steven Sonenreich President
We are in the process of finalizing the general manager recruitment with a planned starting date of January 6, 2020. As soon as this recruitment is completed, we will separately notify the membership and I am certain that you will be impressed with the candidate’s background and experience. With the current recruitments of a food and beverage director and executive chef, the newly appointed general manager will have the opportunity to recruit his own team which is always preferred. Our construction progress is being delayed by the permitting process and a January start date is now highly unlikely. I will be personally contacting elected leadership at both the city and county to assist with expediting our plans. We will provide the Members with an update at the annual meeting on Thursday, December 5 at 6 PM. We look forward to celebrating and giving thanks for all of our blessings at the holiday party on December 4th. I wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season and all the best in the New Year.
Sincerely,
Steven Sonenreich President

A N O T E FROM THE INTERIM GENERAL MANAGER
W
ell, it has been almost two months since my arrival to Deering Bay. During this time, I have had the opportunity to meet a lot of the members, and I am sure there are many more still to be introduced to. I have been graciously invited to extend my stay through the month of December and into the New Year at which point I will turn over the helm to your new General Manager.
Jerome Louie Interim General Manager
As you have read in Mr. Sonenreich’s letter, Max Miranda will be departing our club in the first week of December. During the time that I have been at DBYCC, Max has been a great resource and coworker. His untiring work ethic, dedication and devotion define the term “Lead by Example” for his staff and peers. His knowledge and love of the members – his family for the past 23 years – is what makes Deering Bay so special. Max has earned my respect and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors. We still continue our search for Deering Bay’s next Executive Chef and Director of Food and Beverage. In the meantime, Chef Patrick Aftanas has been treating the membership with some fabulous lunches and dinners. The Sunday Night Pop-Up BBQ has been heating up and alternating with exciting themes: the most popular has been the Asian night theme, which has featured Korean Short Ribs one week and then Black Bean Short Ribs a few weeks later. The Southern Comfort night theme ran a close second with Chef Patrick’s Buttermilk Crispy Fried Chicken with Biscuits and Honey. Be advised, these themes have become so popular that we have SOLD OUT on a few of the nights, so get your reservations in early! Other special nights have included the 1 1/2 Maine Lobsters, Alaskan King Crab, and USDA PRIME Roasted Prime Rib Dinner with Salad and Potato Bar. These have been alternating on Friday and Saturday evenings, giving more opportunities for everyone to enjoy. It’s Florida Stone Crab season – watch for the nightly Dinner Specials announcements! Stephen Plunkett will join the DBYCC team on December 1st as Interim Director of Food and Beverage. Stephen has been travelling with Troon for the past 2 1/2 years. His last assignment was at the Dunes in Naples, FL. Happy Holidays! It is that special time of the year that families will be visiting. We have many activities at your Club, from Holiday Decorating, the Annual Members’ Holiday Party, Brunch with Santa, Chanukah Celebration and New Year’s Eve Dinner. Join us with your friends to celebrate. REMINDERS: • Members Holiday Party is for MEMBERS ONLY. Due to the growing popularity, attendance is limited to two (2) attendees per membership account. We will not be able to accommodate additional guests. • The Annual Member Meeting date has been changed to Thursday, December 5th. • Annual Food and Beverage Minimums expire on December 31st. Please make sure to enjoy your Club and avoid the last minute rush. Any unused Minimums will be billed on the December 31st statement – no exceptions please! Better to USE IT, than to LOSE IT! See you at the Club! Jerome Louie Interim GM

A N O T E FROM GOLF
A
t this time, my staff and I would like to wish each and every Member a safe and Happy Holiday season! I personally would like to thank the membership for its participation in our events and golf programs during the past year. A steady increase in participation saw new friendships formed coupled with great competition and a new round of tournament champions for the Deering Bay history books. We are anticipating 2020 to be a banner golf year at Deering.
Dave Ragan III Head Golf Professional
Remember, as the golf season is upon us and the amount of play increases, please be aware of your “PACE OF PLAY,” let faster players play through. In the interest of all, players must play without delay. In order to make your day more enjoyable please maintain a proper pace or allow faster groups to pass. On the tournament front, the Men’s Member - Member was the first major of the 2019-20 golf season. Cameron Tallon and Ethan Shapiro displayed good ball striking and clutch putting in the grueling final round aggregate format to seal the victory. In the runner-up position was Steve Sonenreich and Fernando Espinosa. In 3rd was the team of Richard Pollack and Rudy Stern. Congratulation to Cameron Tallon and Ethan Shapiro the 2019 Men’s Member-Member Champions!
Best regards, Dave Ragan Head Golf Professional

Max’s Wine of the Month
Justin, Sauvignon Blanc, Central Coast, CA, 2017 A glass or a bottle of wine is more than just fermented grape juice, it’s about the celebration of daily life and making memorable moments. Such memorable moments as the one we had here at Deering Bay on April 2, 2019 when Justin Baldwin hosted our wine dinner. Cheers to celebrating daily life. I hope you enjoy this fantastic classic style Sauvignon Blanc. This wine displays notes of Citrus, Granny Smith Apple, White Peach with balanced acidity moving onto a crisp finish. G: $8 | B: $28
Austin Hope, Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles, CA, 2017 Paso Robles is a very special place for me as I had the amazing opportunity to be part of the wine making process at several wineries for the 2018 vintage. As mentioned when introducing the Justin Sauvignon blanc, to me wine is about celebrating daily life and special moments. Join me this month with a glass or a bottle of my selections of the month as I celebrate the opportunity of a lifetime, serving the Deering Bay membership for 24 years. Cheers and thank you for the endless great memories. This wine displays a massive concentration of Blueberry, Cherry, Black Cherry, undertones of vanilla and matured tannins beyond its vintage that move onto a long finish. G: $14 | B: $51 #dbycc #drinksonthebay #dbwinecellar
