A M E S S A G E FROM THE PRESIDENT & THE GENERAL MANAGER
W
e want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year!
The beginning of a new year is always a great time to reflect on and assess the prior year and set new goals for the coming one. It is also a time for optimism and setting goals.
Steven Sonenreich The challenges we all faced in 2020 were certainly unprecedented. The President impact of a worldwide pandemic impacted everyone in some way on how we approached our daily lives. Whether it meant wearing a mask, not being able to go out to dinner, or work out in your gym, to dealing with the effects personally or on families and friends. Entering 2021, we do have a lot to be optimistic about. The vaccine is here and being distributed. Some of you have already had your first dose. That is great news! Our lives may not get back to what we were accustomed to very soon, but we can now begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Another item that we should be excited and optimistic about is the ongoing renovation of our clubhouse. We are now almost three months into it and are starting to see some great progress. The excitement for this will build as we get closer to completion as we all anticipate the ability to experience the new venues. In addition to the dining spaces, a expanded fitness center with all new equipment and group exercise room will provide the entire membership with an incentive to adapt a healthier lifestyle, and work off the extra pounds gained in the aforementioned dining areas! The addition of the Youth Room will also be a welcomed addition to our Club. As the age of our members trends lower, we are seeing more and more families around the Club. The Youth Room will provide an area for our youngest members to do crafts, learn skills, have a place to study and meet new friends. The cherry on the sundae will be a fresh new look when the Club is completely painted! At a point during the construction of the enhanced 19th Hole Cabana we will need to close the pool for safety purposes. At that time we have a capital project planned to resurface the pool. We will advise you of the dates for this once the contractor finalizes the schedule for this portion of the project. Outdoor activities have all seen a big increase. Our golfers know this, as rounds are up, and on a national level, we have not seen as big an increase as this past year since a young man by the name of Tiger Woods turned pro. Members are investing time and money into their sports by taking tennis lessons and golf lessons and purchasing new equipment with the goal of improving handicaps or your tennis rating. The Club is responding JANUARY 2021 • 4
At the December meeting of the Board of Directors, the election of officers for the coming year was held. Congratulations to them and a thank you for volunteering to continue in service to the Club.
Peter Serena General Manager
Those results are as follows; President – Steven Sonenreich Vice President – Rob Sperber
Treasurer – Domingo Moreira Secretary – John Marshall
The Committee Chairs were also outlined for the coming year. That information can be found elsewhere in the newsletter. Many member events are planned for the New Year. We are continuing to look for new and exciting activities to re-engage our long time members and reflect the current trends in the club industry that many of our new members prefer. We will continue to monitor what we can do safely and may need to move dates until such time it makes sense. Stay tuned for what is coming and be open to participating in new and different offerings! We also wanted to announce that the repairs to the Club pool have been completed and it is now open for use. We thank you for your patience while we waited for the parts to arrive. In addition to the regular classes, Renny will be offering a Zumba Class, for all levels. It will be held each Thursday at 11:00 AM beginning January 7.
Wishing you all a healthy and prosperous 2021,
Steven Sonenreich Peter J. Serena President General Manager

wish all of you and your families a healthy, SAFE and Happy New Year. We eagerly welcome all of the joy that lies ahead in 2021 – and say “get out of here, 2020!”
Shannon Mattes Director of Membership & Mktg
2021 brings with it a new beginning – filled with new hope for the future and a much greater appreciation for family and friends. This virus has slowed us down, but it has not stopped us. Here at Deering Bay, we continue to adapt and move forward. Last year, we were thrilled to welcome 58 new & returning members to the Club! The start of 2021 has already been extremely busy and exciting in the Membership Department as Deering Bay remains a desirable and safe escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Would you like to welcome and meet our new Members? If so, please join our all new Membership Ambassador Club! This is a great way to connect with new Members and make lifelong friendships. Members will have exclusive access to new fun events with new members and will also receive a special Ambassador gift. If you would like to sign up for the Ambassador Program please email or call Daniella or myself. Please read below for more information!
WHAT IS THE AMBASSADOR CLUB? Club Ambassadors help new members make the transition from a new member to an involved member of the Club! A Club Ambassador will assist the new member to a smooth integration into the Deering Bay lifestyle. WHO CAN BE AN AMBASSADOR? All Club members can volunteer to be a Deering Bay Ambassador. As an Ambassador you will be: • Club Cheerleader – involved in the Club, who frequently attends club events and activities. • Welcome Wagon – reaching out to new members with a welcome email or phone call. • Buddy – extending an invitation for a round of golf or initiation to a Club social event. • Friends – willing to be paired with new members for activities and social events. WHAT ARE THE DUTIES OF AN AMBASSADOR? • Based on interests, two Ambassadors members would be assigned to each new Club member. JANUARY 2021 • 6
HOW LONG IS AN AMBASSADOR ASSIGNMENT? Roughly a season. After two months, however, new members should be pretty well integrated into life at Deering Bay. Ambassadors should continue to send an email or call to check-in with their assigned new member for the remainder of the season. Who knows? You might have met a friend for life.
Daniella Tosta Membership Manager
HOW DO I BECOME AN AMBASSADOR? Are you ready to represent your Club? If so, please email membership@ dbycc.com or call Shannon Mattes, Membership Director at 305-964-404. Please congratulate...

A M E S S A G E FROM THE F&B DIRECTOR
K
iss it Goodbye! 2020 is over and I know many of our members are just as excited as my associates are to bring in a healthy and happy new year.
Nicholas Perusina Food & Beverage Director
Thank you to everyone who participated in our F&B Experience Survey that was sent out on December 1st. I received a lot of great feedback on things that Members have enjoyed these past few months and things they would like to see happen in and around the restaurant. The team and I are actively working on those suggestions to ensure you and your guests are having the best service, the best food quality, and the best variety of menu items here at Deering Bay. As a reminder, please feel free to email or call me with any comments, questions, or concerns regarding your Food & Beverage experience. Celebrate the arrival of 2021 for lunch on New Year’s Day from 11AM – 3PM. To accompany your lunch, we will offer a Bloody Mary Bar with ‘21’ ingredients that you can add to your Bloody Mary for extra fun and flavor. Our Fall Menu has been receiving fantastic reviews, mainly with healthier options and better variety. On January 27th we will roll out our Winter Menu that will feature several changes that will incorporate some seasonal ingredients and dishes as well as more value driven, shareable appetizers. We look forward to eventually seeing all of our Members in, and around, the Club this year. As always, please continue to make reservations and check in with our greeter before dining with us, so that we can take your temperature and ensure you are seated at a sanitized table.

espite the fact that I, personally, cannot wait for 2020 to come to a close, there is indeed much to be thankful for this year. For the most part, our golf community has been spared the ravages of the pandemic as well as the record rainfall. Additionally, you, the members, have been exceptionally supportive of the Club and its golf activities; and as a result, we have experienced excellent growth on our events. In any event, let’s put 2020 behind us as quickly as possible and celebrate a new year!

s the year comes to an end, we would like to thank all the tennis members for their continued support to the tennis program and congratulate all the ladies’ teams in their efforts and accomplishments. We hope this New Year finds you all in good health and spirits. This year promises to be eventful and fun filled. As everyone returns from vacation, we are receiving more and more phone calls and reservations. We look forward to seeing everyone on the courts.
Pedro Leon Tennis Director
Holding true to tradition, our teams are on the path of leadership and victory. The 3.5 and 3.0 USTA Senior Ladies’ teams were the champions throughout the summer season, and like all our USTA teams, we are getting ready for the new season. Our South Florida Alpha-B team is half way through its season and continues to hold very competitive matches. All our regular clinics are in progress and the attendance has been excellent. For those who enjoy playing tennis, we would like to invite you to come and play in our upcoming events for 2021. On Saturday, January 23 at 9 am, we will have the Men’s Member - Guest event and on Thursday, February 11 at 7 pm, we will host the Valentine’s Doubles & Mixed Troubles! You will have the opportunity to show your loved ones your true love for tennis. In addition to these events, we also have on Sunday, February 20 at 9 am a Mixed Doubles Member/Member or Guest Round Robin. Do not forget our regular program where we offer during the week for men, ladies and juniors private lessons and clinics. If you would like to sign up or need more information, please call the Tennis Shop at 305-2563366. Once again, one of our top priorities this year is to keep the courts in the best conditions to make the members proud. Primarily, we deposit clay on the courts quite often to be sure that we continue having the finest courts in the area. Most important of all, we would like to remind everyone to follow the CDC and State Health Department tennis guidelines as well as our club’s tennis rules, also reservations should be made no earlier than two days in advance before 3:30 pm. After 3:30 pm and Mondays Walk-Ins are welcomed. On behalf of the tennis department, have a good and safe January.
Sincerely, Pedro Leon Director of Tennis
