ABOUT Hello! I am a third year Interior Design student attending the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. In preparation for my third co-op, I hand selected and compiled a collection of my work dating from my first year at DAAP until now in this portfolio. As you may soon see, my interests and skills vary. In projects, and in life, I like to first look at the big picture and then hone in on critical thoughts and steps in the completion of my goals. Over the years, I have found that a few of my passions include reading, history, graphics, and taking notes! Overall, my ultimate goal as a designer is not to impact an individual but a whole population. I dream of reaching this goal by going back into the past in saving buildings, interiors, and furniture and bringing them back to life. I fully believe in the saying, “If only these walls could talk� and because of that, I want to combine old and new knowledge and apply it for people through design.

INHABITABLE FORM SPRING 2016

In this project, students were asked to develop a life size inhabitable structure that could be placed in an outdoor setting at the University of Cincinnati. In the beginning of the design development stage, students were asked to work individually to create concept ideas and models for the basis of the structure. After this step was completed, students were then placed into groups of eight to ten and asked to narrow down their concept models to one idea. In my group, we decided upon a concept that incorporated two integrating squares with a focus on the space they created. After we decided upon this concept, we then moved to the creation of multiple 1/8� scale models. To carry out our concept, we designed the structure to have a focalized center, intricate and interactive entry ways and exits, and complex visibility factors. As soon as the specifics of our design were determined, we then had to enlarge the 1/8� scale model to life size scale model. In the end, to complete our life sized structure, we cut, drilled, and stapled together an eight foot by eight foot form that was stable enough for our group of eight to comfortably interact in. Our structure then sat outside an open and populous crossing on campus for one week, and withstood heavy foot traffic and natural elements (Ex. Rain, Dew, Direct Sun Exposure). Overall, I throughly enjoyed completing this project because it tested by ability to work in large groups effectively.
CONCEPTUAL ARRANGEMENTS In the form’s infancy stage, like previously discussed, conceptual arrangements were made for each student to grasp a basic understanding of the point they wanted to make in a final design. When individuals were brought into groups, we came to the consensus that two shapes that intersected one another was the direction we wanted to go.

MODEL ITERATIONS After finalizing a direction from the conceptual arrangements, my group and I developed multiple models that would be 1/8� scale models of the actual life size form. During this process we studied into visibility, center, and floating edges.

FINAL LIFE SIZE FORM At the end of the semester, after my group and I had finalized our 1/8� model, we were given the tools and specific amount of materials to build an eight foot by eight foot inhabitable form. The time allotted for us to create these forms was short. We were only given only four hours to complete this construction, but nonetheless, in the end we finished with just enough time to relax and interact with our form. In our final design we executed our initial thought of two converging spaces. One space played with visibility, while the other played with light. Because of the materials given to us, we ultimately created a form that took you on a journey throughout the entire space, start to finish.

OTR FILM INSTITUTE FALL 2016

After coming back from a full on conceptual and developmental first year in studio, our first task as second year students was to start thinking dually on a new project. Located in the up and coming district just outside of downtown Cincinnati, Over the Rhine proved to be the perfect spot for a new Cincinnati Film Institute. In this project, each student was required to think not only about form and architecture of this new institute, but interior as well. During the duration of my design process, I focused a lot of my attention to the structure and look of my form. The surrounding buildings in Over the Rhine are tall and rectangular and I wanted to add an intriguing contrast. As students continued to trek through their own design processes, it became alarmingly apparent to all of us on how large the actual site and building were. Overall, I throughly enjoyed this project. My studio in particular determined that all of our deliverables would reflect on our capability to hand render well, and I believed it to be good practice and a new skill.

CONCEPTUAL SHAPE STUDIES One of the first steps student were asked to complete were mini massing models that drew interest to visibility, light, planes, and form. My approach to this step consisted of studying two types buildings, one with odd angles and the other, modular ninety degree angled boxes. After my initial forms and planes were made, I then used thin wood strips to dive deeper into my geometry and visibility factors.

MODEL ITERATIONS After the initial conceptual massing studies, my professor and I decided that an interesting approach into the finalization of my model would be to combine the odd and the norm. After the large massing model was complete, I continued to study into different modular studies, as well as the importance of the geometric forms created when certain points came together in my design and my model. Overall, in my final cohesive model, I executed my original idea into an intriguing geometric light filled form.

FINAL FLOOR PLANS Like discussed previously, the professors asked to students to not only concern themselves with the overall architecture of the building, but also the interior as well. In my final floor plans, the most public areas are on the first floor and the most secluded are on the third. In our programming, we were required to add a theater, office spaces, classrooms, a library, and an artist guest house.

LIVEWELL OFFICE SUMMER 2017

In my most recent studio project, the focus for the whole semester was on an in-depth analysis of workplace design. To complete our goal in understanding, the professors and students collaborated with a local University of Cincinnati group called Livewell, that so happened to be moving to a new office building within the year. In this project we were asked to study the norm and beyond. Livewell’s new space had not been designed or developed yet, so creativity and budget knew no bounds. On the contrary to modern office design norm, my concept that followed me from start to finish was a three-dimensional maze. I knew that I when I developed my model, my final floor plan would have centrally located hub while the rest of the programming would wind itself around that.

CONCEPT MODEL Initially after meeting with the clients, I took this idea of change and progress that they wanted and translated it as movement. At the time, the best representation of movement was a maze, with its twisting and turning. However, for my concept model I did not want to create a plain 2D drawing, so I over emphasized the idea of a center and created an extruded 3D maze tower.

SCHEMATIC MODELS After studying my concept model, students were asked to take what we learned and incorporate it into two schematic building models. In the first model, I deliberately added the concept of a maze into my design. Where as on the other model, I played with the concept of traveling and visibility. In this model I wanted to evoke the possible user to be able to see the end, but travel through the maze to get there.

PRECEDENT THINKING After developing our models, students were then asked to think about the mood and feel they wanted to see or bring to their design. We were asked to also take into consideration the location of the building, the location of the space, and the type of materials we wanted to see throughout.

DIAGRAM ANALYSIS To better understand how I wanted to execute this idea of a maze, into a modern workplace was tricky. My idea completely went against the now new norm of open office design. So, in preparation for this task, I completed various diagrams to aide me in the development of my

LIVEWELL RE-IMAGINED In my final design for the new Livewell office, I imagined and designed a bright and complex interior display. Although my concept of the maze proved to be a difficult task in the beginning, I feel that I executed an open but winding office layout that can be best understood when looking at my overall floor plan. Overall, I wanted my space to embody who Livewell is and why they are thriving, and thats all because of movement.

For my first and second co-op, I chose to work for an Architecture and Interior Design firm called Moody Nolan, in Columbus, Ohio. While I was there, I go the chance to be apart of diverse team of about twenty designers. Since the group was so small and there was only one other intern, I was given a lot of responsibility while I was there I was responsible for correspondences with sales representatives, securing product samples, and the arrangement of various lunch demonstrations. I also conducted research, gathered, created, and presented information for numerous projects for the lead designers. Along with the presentations, I also picked materials, designed, and then assembled material boards for lead designers and clients as well. MONTICELLO AND ROXBORO MIDDLE SCHOOLS REMODEL RENDERING STUDIES
In Cleveland, Ohio a set of Middle schools within the same school district were undergoing a remodeling phase, constructed and lead by Moody Nolan Architects and Interior Designers. In this specific situation, one lead designer on the project asked me to render in the materials she was proposing for the design. The difficult part on my end was not the Photoshoping, but the fact that half of her reference images that she wanted me to render were actual photographs and not Revit line drawings. To complete her task on time, I hand rendered on Photoshop materials that replicated those in the photographs and also added the chosen new materials too. Although these renderings have probably been updated since studies that I created, I felt very respected and depended on after completing these renderings for the designer.

THE CHILDREN’S SCHOOL OF ROCHESTER GRAPHIC CAFETERIA WALL STUDY
Much like the last project, and even given to me by the same lead designer. In this graphic cafeteria wall study I was asked to create a fun graphic that could go along the far wall. In my process, I first studied and examined modern and playful geometric shapes on Pinterest. From there I over-laid in Photshop other different shapes and colors to create a total of seven different geometric graphic studies. When I presented these ideas to the designer, she commented that there were no studies that included the school’s logo. So ultimately, I went back and added two new studies that included dimensional graphics with the school logo to the set.

When I started at DAAP as an Interior Design major three years ago, I knew nothing really about Adobe programs or graphics in general. However, due to a combination of factors from school, my professors, and co-op, I have recently found a new obsession that includes creating intriguing and playful graphics. I am learning fairly quickly that graphics play a bigger role in the outcome of completed designs more than I thought. Correct branding and way-finding could make or break whether or not your design is understandable and successful. While on my first and second co-op, I was privy to working with my company’s Experiential Design team on multiple occasions and because of them, I am looking forward to combining my knowledge on design and graphics together. Shown, are examples of a few bigger projects I have completed thus far.

WATCHDOG FLYER Over this past summer, I was involved in a class that focused strictly on Digital Entrepreneurship. While in this class, students were asked to pair up with a partner and develop something to sell. My partner, who was well versed in computer coding and majoring in Industrial Design, had an idea about creating a new safety app for app stores. Ultimately, by the end of the class, he developed a working and sell-able app and I worked on posters and social media platforms that would promote it. Shown are the flyers I created and posted up around the University of Cincinnati.

Truthfully, I have been drawing and sketching ever since I was little, however, it was only until recently that gained enough courage show off my sketches. Growing up, I was a perfectionist, so all of my drawings had to have harmonious color, colors that were inside the lines, and pictures used the same media. I even refused to draw with pen and always pencil, all the way up to college because I was afraid of mistakes. However, once I hit college, that all changed. With the mixture of classes and new professors, it all pushed me out my comfort-zone to try new things, like mixing medias and using micron pens. Looking back now, it was most likely the best thing for my skills and my attitude. Over the years, I have found a passion in drawing landscapes and cityscapes in some of my favorite cities in the world. So, in the next few pages there is a collection of my sketches, drawings, and collages made in all different types of media throughout my first three years at DAAP.
