INTERNATIONAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE The DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) is the culmination of the DECA year. More than 20,000 high school students, teacher-advisors, business professionals and alumni gather for several days of DECA excitement. DECA members demonstrate their college and career-ready knowledge and skills by participating in DECA’s industry-validated Competitive Events Program, aligned with Career Clusters, National Curriculum Standards and 21st Century Skills in the areas of marketing, finance, hospitality, management and entrepreneurship. These members have qualified to attend based on superior performance at the district and association levels. More than 1,000 business professionals serve as expert judges to evaluate DECA members’ mastery of these concepts. In addition, thousands of members participate in DECA’s Emerging Leader Series, which helps them attain 21st Century Skills in the areas of collaboration and teamwork, communication, critical thinking and problem solving and creativity. One highlight is the involvement of executive mentors who provide college and career advice. Thousands of DECA advisors and educators participate in administering DECA’s Competitive Events Program and Emerging Leader Series, while also participating in professional learning activities.

Your health and safety is important! We are excited to return to an in-person International Career Development Conference and want to promote the health and safety of everyone involved. As part of our plans to host a safe event, please follow our event requirements and recommendations below to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

MASK UP! DECA Inc. is providing a mask for each conference attendee. DECA Inc.’s policy is to follow the guidelines set forth by the local jurisdiction of the conference location regarding COVID-19. Check the app for the latest update regarding mask requirements. Please note that requirements are subject to change based on the local jurisdiction or requirements set forth by the venues.

BE MINDFUL Please understand that everyone has a differing comfort level as a result of COVID-19. Maintain appropriate distance from others and avoid shaking hands. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Always cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.

IF YOU’RE SICK, STAY BACK Monitor your health daily. Watch for fever, cough, shortness of breath or other symptoms of COVID-19. If you develop symptoms of COVID-19 less than 10 days before, do not come to the event. If you develop symptoms while attending ICDC, stay in your hotel room and contact your advisor immediately.

Be alert when checking in. Protect your cash and valuables by keeping them with you. Never say your room number loudly enough for others to overhear or give it out to anyone you do not know. Be sure to lock your door when you are in your room as well as when you leave. Call the front desk to verify any unexpected deliveries or room service. Do not leave your door open while you are in the room. Always tell your advisor where you are going. Do not leave your room after curfew.

Never leave money or valuables unsecure in your room; use your hotel room’s safe. If you see any suspicious person or activity, notify hotel management. Ask the hotel for the most direct route to restaurants and shopping. Don’t wander through shortcuts. Don’t go out alone; travel with at least one other person. There is safety in numbers.

VP, HUMAN RESOURCES | THE HOME DEPOT Keynote speaker presented by the NRF Foundation Sherry Yaskin has been responsible for setting the people strategies for a variety of functions across The Home Depot. As VP, Human Resources, she and her team play an important role in supporting the company’s growth strategies and leading significant transformation as the business evolves. Sherry joined The Home Depot in 2004. Prior to joining the Home Depot, Sherry was a district manager with Circuit City. She also spent more than 14 years with Gap, Inc., where she held a variety of leadership positions. Sherry recently joined the NRF Foundation’s Board of Directors—a philanthropic arm of the National Retail Federation— advocating for the value of retail jobs through education, training and experiences for everyone from high school and college students to people with barriers to employment.

MAJOR IN PROPERTY MANAGEMENT AT BALL STATE UNIVERSITY As our population and economy continue to expand, so does the demand for multifamily housing and commercial properties. As one of only a few Property Management programs in the country, we are here to meet the challenges of those demands. Immersed in a small and experiential program, our students have realworld opportunities in many areas of property management. Using our expert faculty, industry professionals and program partners, our students gain skills and knowledge in a variety of meaningful property management skills. These areas include marketing and leasing investment properties, financial management of real estate investments, and the development, construction, and operations of real estate properties.

All guests will be subject to security screening prior to entry inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium, along with inspection of all approved clear bags and carry-in items. New security screening technology permits you to walk through security without removing items from your pockets. For the quickest entry into the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, we strongly recommend that you do not bring a bag on event day. If a bag is necessary, the bag must meet the following criteria to enter the stadium: • Bags must be CLEAR plastic, vinyl or PVC and not exceed 12” x 6” x 12”. Bags cannot be tinted with color or include oversized content that prevents visibility into the clear bag. • Only non-clear bags smaller than 4.5” x 6.5” will be permitted into the stadium. • Any type of non-clear bag exceeding 4.5” x 6.5” in size will not be permitted. Camera bags and cases that accompany any permitted personal device must meet the clear bag policy specifications or will be denied entry. Exceptions to the Clear Bag Policy will only be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection by security personnel. Please ask for assistance at the gate. Guests with non-complying bags can store their items for a fee at the conveniently located bag check location outside of MercedesBenz Stadium. CODE OF CONDUCT

Professional appearance is an important aspect of the overall preparation of DECA members for the business world. To that end, DECA supports a dress code for its career-based functions that exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism while being non-discriminatory between genders.

The Board of Directors for DECA Inc. requires each delegate attending the International Career Development Conference to read and complete the ATTENDANCE PERMISSION FORM and return to the CHARTERED ASSOCIATION DECA advisor as partial completion of attendance requirements.

DECA’s board of directors has developed the following official dress standards for the International Career Development Conference. Students, advisors and chaperones must follow the dress code.

The term “delegate” shall mean any DECA member, including advisors, attending conferences (high school, collegiate, alumni, professional).

There shall be no defacing of public property. Any damage to any property or furnishing in the hotel rooms or building must be paid for by the individual or chapter responsible.

Delegates must wear identification badges at all times.

Delegates shall refrain from using inappropriate or profane language at all times.

Delegates shall refrain from written, verbal, physical or electronic activities that may lead to harassment, hazing, bullying or damaging property.

The use of any harassment against anyone on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, ancestry, age, gender, sexual orientation or disability is prohibited.

Delegates shall respect the rights and safety of other hotel guests.

Delegates shall not possess alcoholic beverages, narcotics or weapons in any form at any time under any circumstances.

Delegates shall refrain from gambling—playing cards, dice or games of chance for money or other things of value.

10.

Use of tobacco products and electronic cigarettes by delegates is prohibited at all DECA functions.

11.

Delegates must adhere to the dress code at all times.

12.

Delegates must not dress or behave in a manner than can be interpreted as sexually explicit.

13.

Students shall keep their adult advisors informed of their activities and whereabouts at all times.

14.

No delegate shall leave the hotel (except for authorized events) unless permission has been received from chapter and chartered association advisors.

15.

Delegates should be prompt and prepared for all activities.

16.

Delegates should be financially prepared for all activities.

17.

Delegates are required to attend all sessions and activities assigned including workshops, competitive events, committee meetings, etc., for which they are registered unless engaged in some specific assignment scheduled at the same time.

18.

Delegates will spend nights at their assigned hotel and in their assigned room. No guests allowed during curfew hours. Delegates will be quiet at curfew.

19.

Curfew will be enforced. Curfew means the delegate will be in his/ her assigned room.

20.

Chartered associations will be responsible for delegates’ conduct.

21.

Tasteful casual wear will be accepted during specific social functions as designated during orientation.

22.

Delegates ignoring or violating any of the above rules will subject their entire delegation to being unseated and their candidates or competitive events participants to being disqualified. Individual delegates may be sent home immediately at their own expense.

Competitors must wear an official DECA blazer during interaction with the judges. While official DECA blazers are not required during briefing and testing, professional business dress is required. Professional dress should also be worn to all conference sessions including workshops and special meal functions such as luncheons. For a more polished, professional appearance, it is recommended that attendees wear appropriate hosiery/socks. All skirts and dresses must be at or below the knee.

WHEN APPEARING BEFORE JUDGES AND ON-STAGE • Official DECA blazer • Dress slacks or dress skirt or business dress • Collared dress shirt and appropriate neckwear or Dress blouse • Dress shoes DECA GENERAL SESSIONS, MEAL FUNCTIONS, EVENT BRIEFING, MANUAL REGISTRATION AND TESTING • Business suit or sport coat or blazer (blazer optional) • Dress slacks, dress skirt or business dress • Collared dress shirt, dress blouse or dress sweater • Dress shoes • Necktie/scarf/ascot (optional) DECA BUSINESS CASUAL • Casual slacks (e.g., Dockers), blouse or shirt, socks and casual shoes • Jeans, t-shirts and athletic shoes are not included in business casual attire UNACCEPTABLE DURING DECA ACTIVITIES • Skin-tight or revealing clothing • Midriff-baring clothing • Swimwear • Athletic clothing • Leggings or graphic designed hosiery/tights • Clothing with printing that is suggestive, obscene or promotes illegal substances • Unacceptable types of dress shoes include boat shoes, canvas or fabric shoes, flip flops or casual sandals, athletic shoes, industrial work shoes and hiking boots. When judging adherence to the dress code, DECA directs advisors, teachers and chaperones to use observation as the tool for assessing compliance. It is inappropriate to touch a student or their clothing as a means of determining adherence to the dress code. DECA members who are not appropriately dressed will have a reasonable opportunity to meet the dress code prior to seeing a judge or being allowed on stage.

The Chairman’s Award recognizes the outgoing chairman of DECA’s National Advisory Board (NAB). An individual eligible for this award is the outgoing NAB chairman who has supported DECA at the international level in a significant way for a minimum of five years, and from whom DECA may reasonably expect continued support of its activities.

M. ANDY CHAVES | VIRGINIA 15 YEARS

AWARDED IN 2020

M. Andy Chaves began his partnership with DECA over 15 years ago by becoming a member of the National Advisory Board. After serving as a member of the Executive Committee for many years, he served as Chair of the NAB and as a member of the DECA Inc. Board of Directors from 2017-2019. Through his dedication to preparing emerging leaders and entrepreneurs, Andy has partnered with educators, advisors and administrators to promote DECA and career and technical education at the local, state and international levels. His most noteable contributions include assisting DECA secure over $1 million in grants from the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation and attending DECA events all across the country as a sponsor, volunteer and mentor. Over 2,000 DECA members have been hired to work with Marriott International, Inc.

Andy worked in lodging operations at more than 10 hotel and conference resort properties and spent 20 years in human resources both in the North American lodging division and at Marriott International Corporate Headquarters.

MIKE BROWN | TENNESSEE AWARDED IN 2022

5 YEARS

Mike Brown has served as Chair of the National Advisory Board and as a member of the DECA Inc. Board of Directors from 2019-2022. As founder, president and CEO of M&M Productions USA, Mike Brown oversees all aspects of the company. The business has been his vision since 1988 when he was just 13 years old. Since then, he has grown his teenage DJ service into a nationally-recognized operation serving high-profile entertainment, political and corporate clients. Fresh out of high school, he produced the Duluth Fall Festival Concert at the Gwinnett Center in the Atlanta area. He handled everything from booking talent to ticket sales, as well as lighting and sound. It was a great learning experience that equipped Brown with a valuable skillset and helped propel him to larger events with big-name entertainers. Brown also has never stopped learning or lost his passion for entrepreneurship.

He supports DECA by funding the annual Full Virginia DECA Member Scholarship, producing general sessions for many association conferences, mentoring students, serving as a competitive event judge, and serving on the NAB. Mike also serves on advisory boards for business and marketing for Tennessee and ITT Tech.

Honorary Life Membership is the highest award DECA can bestow on an individual. DECA is pleased to present four recipients of this distinctive and deserving fellowship.

DR. BRENDA CLARK | MICHIGAN AWARDED IN 2020

A lifelong educator, Dr. Brenda Clark, EdD, began her service as a DECA advisor in 1982 and spent nearly 40 years serving as a marketing teacher, school-to-work coordinator, career and technical director, professional development director and an educational association executive. Dr. Clark not only focused on ensuring her students received high-quality learning opportunities, but she also was a leader in providing professional development to DECA advisors throughout the DECA membership. She was a frequent presenter on professional development topics at regional and international conferences. Dr. Clark served as an event director at DECA’s International Career Development Conference for 10 years and served multiple years on DECA’s Competitive Events Taskforce, providing leadership and direction for DECA’s Competitive Events Program. In 2015, Dr. Clark began a new opportunity at MBA Research and Curriculum Center in Columbus, OH, working with teachers, districts and state departments from around the country providing professional development to business administration teachers. She served as the organization’s President and CEO beginning in 2018 and led a staff of 20 individuals dedicated to business administration teachers and students with the focus on delivering research-based standards, curricula, instructional resources and assessments. An innovative leader with a passion for Career and Technical Education, Dr. Clark was an active leader at both the state and international levels in professional and student organizations. Dr. Clark has received numerous awards at the state and international levels and received DECA Inc.’s Outstanding Service Award in 2011.

HONORARY LIF E AWARDS

Mary Peres has provided over 40 years of dedicated service to DECA at all levels, from chapter advisor to DECA Inc. Board of Directors President. She has never missed a regional or international DECA conference since 1980 when she began as a Marketing Education Coordinator for Oceanside High School in New York. Under her leadership, the chapter grew from 21 members to over 175 members, and she focused on inclusivity for all DECA members.

In 1998, she took on a new role as the New York DECA Chartered Association Advisor, managing the daily operations for the association’s 5,300 members and advisors. Her guidance led to the establishment of a New York DECA Collegiate Association, many new industry partnerships, new competitive event training opportunities for advisors and the continued success of district and state conferences. Under her direction, New York DECA has increased student membership and award recipients. Mary has selflessly committed her time and energy at the international level by serving as a member of the DECA Inc. Board of Directors from 2017-2021, including service in leadership roles such as treasurer and president. Mary has also volunteered in many other roles including as an event director at DECA’s International Career Development Conference and multiple terms on the Competitive Events Taskforce. She was awarded DECA Inc.’s Outstanding Service Award in 2017.

She began her involvement with DECA as a collegiate member in 1982 and eventually served as the 1984-1985 National President for the then Delta Epsilon Chi division of DECA. As a competitor, she excelled as a firstplace winner at the National Career Development Conference in Retail Merchandising Series and the Entrepreneurship Written Event. In 1987, she began working for the Minnesota Department of Education as the Executive Director of the High School Division of Minnesota DECA. She became the Chartered Association Advisor soon after in 1992. As the Chartered Association Advisor, she has hosted six Central Region Leadership Conferences and held the position of Chair of the Central Region Board of Governors several times. Jacklyn was awarded the DECA Inc. Outstanding Service Award in 2011. Currently, she works with educators to serve almost 6,000 CTE students in 200 schools throughout Minnesota, impacting approximately 180,000 members of the CTE community. Jackie continues to strive to improve and enhance DECA while ensuring that DECA’s competitive events align with standards and integrate with curriculum at the highest level. Her service at the international level has included serving on multiple taskforces, serving four terms as a member of the DECA Inc. Board of Directors and providing leadership as the president of the DECA Inc. Board of Directors four times.

DR. LYNORE LEVENHAGEN | FLORIDA AWARDED IN 2022

Dr. Levenhagen served Florida DECA for 37 years as a chapter advisor, a member of the Board of Advisors and ultimately as the Executive Director from 2009-2021. Under her guidance, Florida DECA nearly doubled in size to over 10,000 members who were given the opportunity to experience all that DECA has to offer. In 2016, Dr. Levenhagen was also an instrumental part of re-starting Florida Collegiate DECA and propelling the association forward. She is a member of the Florida DECA Hall of Fame and has been awarded the Florida DECA Eagles Dare to Achieve Award and Florida DECA Honorary Life Member Award. Dr. Levenhangen served on the DECA Inc. Board of Directors, became a DECA Inc. Certified Trainer and received the DECA Inc. Outstanding Service Award in 2007. Dr. Levenhagen exemplified leadership in the classroom and throughout all areas of DECA. Her impact will be felt for years to come and her legacy has been etched into the lives of the students, teachers and advisors who had the privilege and pleasure to be a part of her life.

Dr. Lynore Levenhagen—“Lev” to those who knew her best—spent 43 years in education, 37 of them at Lyman High School in Altamonte Springs, FL. Coming from a family of educators, she had a passion for helping others and wanted to become a teacher from an early age. To all of her students, she was more than just a teacher. She was a mentor, leader, friend and a comforting presence for the thousands of students who entered her classroom. She was an educator in every sense of the word.

OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARDS

The Outstanding Service Award is one of DECA Inc.’s most prestigious awards. This award recognizes marketing or business education personnel who have rendered distinguished contributions to further the mission of DECA Inc. at the international level for more than five years.

KAREN BRETTINGEN | MINNESOTA AWARDED IN 2020

Karen Brettingen has served as a chapter advisor in both Minnesota and Wisconsin for nearly 35 years. Karen has provided visionary leadership as co-chair of DECA’s Competitive Events Taskforce. During her term, she worked closely with business and industry to ensure DECA’s competitive events program continues to align with current business and industry practices — with the integrated marketing campaign and project management events being two of the most notable improvements. Karen served as an event director at previous ICDCs.

LINDA SMITH | GEORGIA AWARDED IN 2020

Linda Smith is honored for her nearly 40 years of contributions to DECA at all levels. She recently retired as the Program Specialist at the Georgia Department of Education for the marketing and hospitality and tourism programs. For more than 20 years she used her varied background to be a creative idea generator focused on improving professional development for DECA advisors and ensuring that marketing education programs are aligned to industry standards. Having served as a DECA advisor or chartered association advisor in multiple states, Linda contributed to the ICDCs in Georgia, Missouri, North Carolina and Virginia.

Ginger Hill has impacted the lives of countless DECA members in her more than 15 years as Chartered Association Advisor for South Carolina DECA. She has served DECA at every level, from competitive event director at ICDC and taskforce member to Secretary (2017-2018) and President (2019-2020) of the DECA Inc. Board of Directors. She has shared her passion for DECA’s mission through her presentations at various conferences, her mentorship of numerous association and executive officers and her role as DECA Inc.
