With competition season in high gear, make sure you have the latest information and resources to best prepare your competitors.

UPDATED GUIDELINES The following guidelines have been updated since their printing in the DECA Guide: Advertising Campaign, Community Service Project, Creative Marketing Project, Entrepreneurship Promotion Plan, Financial Literacy Promotion Plan, Learn and Earn Project, Independent Business Plan, Fashion Merchandising Promotion Plan and Sports and Entertainment Promotion Plan. n Download the most up-to-date guidelines from DECA.org.

EXAM BLUEPRINTS DECA has provided blueprints for each of its six exams used in its Competitive Events Program. For each instructional area, the blueprint includes the number of questions associated with it that will appear on the test at each level – district, association and ICDC. On March 1, DECA will update the role-plays with one recently used district scenario for each event at DECA.org.

It’s no secret that DECA advisors are heroes in the eyes of their students. DECA advisors are the consistent glue that holds a chapter together, year after year, as they annually inspire a new class of students. DECA advisors are also the chief educator of the chapter, masterfully integrating DECA activities into classroom instruction.

With the New Year upon us, now is a terrific time to reflect on successes of the past year, set goals for the upcoming year and identify resources to help you, your DECA chapter and your members achieve those goals. Even though the school year is not over, planning for 2017-2018 has already started. In between your district and association competitions, take some time to think about not only how you will finish the academic year strong, but how you can enhance your members’ local DECA experience in 2017-2018.

Dare to reimagine your teaching and DECA chapter strategy. For example, if you elect your student leaders before the end of the school year for the upcoming year, you may wish to learn about DECA’s new chapter strategy structure of missionbased officer teams sooner than later. Perhaps if you’re looking to build your professional network and discover innovative ways of integrating DECA into the classroom, you may make plans to attend DECA AMPED this June.
