fter promising to make it happen for some time, in December 2020 the Government of Canada introduced legislation (referred to as Bill C-15) intended to implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in Canada (UNDRIP). The government has stated that this is a key step in renewing Canada’s relationship with Indigenous peoples. The stated purpose of the bill is to affirm UNDRIP as a universal, international, human rights instrument with application to Canadian law.
