THE CHAIRMAN
Welcome to Central Park this evening for our first home league game of the season. It’s so good to be back.
I’d like to extend a warm Denbigh welcome to all the Caersws players, coaching team, committee and supporters on their long journey up to Denbigh on a Friday evening. Trusting you all have a safe journey home.
I’m sure you’ve noticed some major changes here at Central Park this evening. Our old changing rooms and kitchen have been demolished and we are preparing the groundwork for our new changing rooms, kitchen and function room The work started in mid May and it has proved to be quite some exercise
Initially things went well until we discovered asbestos in the old building, and it took some weeks for this to be safely removed During that time, we also had to amend our initial plans as building regulations meant a few items had to be changed.
We’ve had a new gas and electric supply put into the ground along with an improved water supply. These items can’t be seen as they are all underground but have taken an enormous amount of work with ducts being put in place all along the car park to facilitate the new building and our existing Clubhouse
The main gate has been moved to allow easier access to the ground although this season we will be unable to allow cars into the ground with the building work in progress
Temporary changing rooms are in place behind the stand, and these will be here for the season as we aim to complete the new build by the end of April 2025.
In the meantime, our Clubhouse will continue to be used as our bar and we have also installed a kitchen facility so that hot and cold food and drinks can be served.
We are financing the new building with enormous help from the FAW as we have been selected as one of the grounds to host the 2026 UEFA U19 European Championships. Other institutions have also made a significant contribution to the build and the Club is extremely grateful to all these bodies without whom we would not have been able to contemplate such an ambitious project.
There may be a few inconveniences to you as spectators as we hold games here at Central Park whilst we undergo these changes, and I ask that you bear with us as at the end of the day we will have a superb facility that will continue to see Central Park as one of the top grounds in North Wales
Let’s hope the lads on the pitch can pick up their first points of the season tonight. It’s been a difficult pre-season and start to the 2024/25 campaign with all of our games having to be played away from Central Park, and I know they are looking forward to playing in front of a home crowd
THE GAFFER
Welcome back to Central Park for our first home league game of the season. It’s good to be back playing at home and in front of our supporters.
It’s been a disappointing start to the season with us yet to pick up any league points and exiting the Nathaniel MG Cup. The new squad is taking time to develop as a unit, although I believe we are getting there with the display last weekend at Mold really encouraging
The cup tie at Llay Welfare saw us start well and command the first 30 minutes We took a deserved lead through Owen Davies, but allowed Llay to come into the game and our second-half performance was wanting as we were on the back foot for a large period of the half.
The first league game saw us thumped 7-0 at Airbus It was a poor display and I had to watch the game from the stand due to a suspension. I must take a lot of the blame for the result here as I was unable to affect the game and I’ve learnt the hard way how my actions can affect the team and its results.
We looked out of sorts at Airbus who were a strong team and are sure to be title contenders with their impressive start to the season. Nevertheless, we had to do something to address the performance, so we have had extra training sessions as the new lads look to fit in with our style of play
Last Saturday at Mold, I can’t believe how we didn’t come away with three points We had so many chances to increase our 1-0 half time lead with Owen Davies once again on the scoresheet. The second half saw us play some first-class football and creating chance after chance only for us being unable to capitalise on them To then let in two sloppy goals with their winner coming deep into injury time felt an injustice on how we had played. There were so many positives to take out of our game which was miles better than our Airbus performance
We’ve made nine new additions over the summer, including several talented young players. Harrison Bellis joins from Y Glannau having topped the scoring charts for North Wales last year, Owen Davies joins permanently from TNS whilst Paris Gray also joins from the Saints. Iwan Roberts and Keelan Williams both arrive from Bala, Calum Butler signs from Ruthin Town, Luke Wilmot made his debut in goal last Saturday, Morgan Fricker arrives from Airbus and Sam Duffy from Prestatyn. I’m also pleased to see 16-year old Tom Salisbury graduate from the juniors and make his first team debut recently
This evening’s opponents Caersws have started the season well with three wins out of three games We know tonight’s task will not be easy and have to fully concentrate from the start We need the three points to get our season up and running.
Thanks for your support and getting behind the lads It’s really appreciated by all the players and coaching team.
TOWN HIT BY CRUEL LATE BLOW AT ALYN PARK
They say the first team and reserves should always mirror each other on the pitch, last week that had never been more evident.
Town left Mold with nothing to show for their efforts after a stoppage time winner less than 48 hours after the second string did the exact same at Alyn Park.
Despite Owen Davies giving Town the lead in the first half Denbigh failed to capitalise and strikes from Owen Cordiner and a 93rd minute winner from Seydou Bamba left the visitors with nothing
Dewi Llion named three debutants as goalkeeper Luke Wilmot along with Keelan Williams and Sam Duffy made the XI Meanwhile Morgan Fricker made the squad for the first time and Sion Jones returned from suspension
In reality Denbigh were dominant, but the opening exchanges offered little in the way of chances. That was until the 21st minute when Max Cooke won the ball in the middle of the park, it fell to Davies who teed up Nathan Brown out wide before his return cross found Davies but he couldn’t garner enough purchase
Just after the half hour mark Denbigh thought they had the lead as Paul Fleming squeezed a ball to Duffy, his effort on the right of the box was saved before Davies hit home the rebound, but the flag was raised.
Getting closer and closer Town felt the opener was inevitable, it almost came on 37 minutes when Duffy raced through, attempted to round the ‘keeper who got a touch and the ball fired out off the forwards shin
They wouldn’t have to wait long for the next opportunity however, as with five minutes of the half to play Brown fed the ball down the left of the box for Davies to latch on to and smash home into the bottom corner
It was more of the same in the second half as Brown was able to test the ‘keeper less than two minutes into he restart. Again he linked up well with Davies but the curling effort from range didn’t have the force needed
Debutant Williams was finding more and more joy down the flank and almost marked his first game with a goal when he sent a shot from the right across the face of goal. A minute later he popped up again from the same spot but this time the Mold custodian stopped it, Brown picked up a he loose ball but curled the shot wide of the far post
Calum Butler and Williams were next in line for a pop at goal both of which narrowly missed the target in a game that felt inevitable that Denbigh would land a second.
That being said on 68 minutes Town switched off, a good run down the right saw Mold advance before Cordiner bundled the ball home to level for the home side who had up to that point rarely threatened.
A deep free kick for the home side saw headed towards goal forcing Wilmot to make a good save before Matt Lewis turned it in from an offside position
The game now appeared to go either way, with 78 minutes on the clock more good work from Denbigh saw the ball fall to Brown in the box but he could only lift it over from close range.
Mold substitute Bamba grew into the game and was let loose down the right before forcing Wilmot into a brilliant stop
Denbigh almost had it on 86 minutes when substitute Harrison Bellis did well on the left to bring the ball inside and lay it to Williams but the ball flashed past the post.
Denbigh almost had it on 86 minutes when substitute Harrison Bellis did well on the left to bring the ball inside and lay it to Williams but the ball flashed past the post
Bellis was involved again a minute later when he received the ball with his back to goal and had his effort blocked before it fell to Davies, his thunderous shot effort was tipped over by the keeper.
into stoppage time and Mold threw themselves forward and with Denbigh camped in their own box a loose ball was poked home by Bamba to provide a crushing blow

BRIEF HISTORY: DENBIGH TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB
Denbigh Town Football Club was formed in 1880 and have been one of the longest-serving clubs in North Wales. The early years saw the club play in a number of leagues including the North Wales Coast and Welsh Senior League, as well as time in the old Combination
The club rose to fame in the 1920s when during the 1923/24 campaign, it won its first and only national honour, the Welsh Amateur Cup beating Lovell’s Athletic. The club went under different names throughout those years including United and Juniors before settling on Town in the 1950s.
Following the Second World War Denbigh clinched numerous honours before the golden period of the 1970s that saw the club dominate the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) winning four successive league titles
After turning to the Clwyd Premier following the departure of successful manager John Trefor Roberts, the club shot back up the ladder upon the appointment of Bill Dawson who took the club from the Clwyd Premier to the Cymru Alliance in just four years
The club remained in the second tier for six years before returning to the Welsh Alliance but under Tim Dyer the club was promoted alongside a Cookson Cup success in 2007.
In 2013/14 the club went unbeaten in the Welsh Alliance earning a third promotion to tier two after their return to the division in 2010.
In 2015/16 the club reached it’s second national final and the biggest game in club history when reaching the League Cup Final, losing to professional outfit TNS on national television.
Upon relegation from the Cymru Alliance in 2019, manager Dewi Llion rebuilt his squad and in 2023 earned a league and cup double to move up to the JD Cymru North, finishing 6th in their first season back.
THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT AT CENTRAL PARK
As the new season continues in its infancy Denbigh Town once again blood new young talent who take their first steps into senior football.
Seven of the club’s Under-16s have graduated to the senior setup this summer with five of them making their debuts for the Reserves at the beginning of the campaign or back end of last term.
Midfielder Tom Salisbury made his Reserves debut in April before stepping up to the First-Team in pre-season He made his full debut for the club in the JD Cymru North at Airbus three weeks ago.
Rory Wynne, Harri Redgrave, Sam Hughes and Rhodri Edwards all made appearances in April and May and have stepped up to the Reserves squad for the year. Defender Aled Jones made his Reserves debut in our trip to Mold Alexandra
Finally, Serhad Kanli also takes his first steps into the senior section whilst 15-year-old Tomos Jones has trained with the squad ahead of his eligibility.
The group last year were successful at youth level winning the Rhyl & District Junior Cup and finished 2nd in the league, winning 14 of 16 games
Elsewhere 16-year-olds Ianto Jones joins from Colwyn Bay and Aled Hughes joins from Bala Town along with Ossian Jones and Gabriel Hinchcliffe (both 17) and goalkeeper Alistair Macauley (18) arriving and having an impact early on
15 members of the second string came through the ranks at Central Park over the years and will all be vying for success in the FAW Reserve League North East this season.
The youngsters will be back in action tomorrow at home to Gresford Athletic kicking off at 11am

They also won the cup (now renamed the Welsh Intermediate Cup) in 1989
In the league, the team's fortunes waned until they won the title again in 1978, and four more times before they were invited to join the Cymru Alliance in 1990. In 1992 they became founder members of the League of Wales
Caersws won the League Cup in 2000–01 and 2001–02, and played in the Intertoto Cup, being defeated 3–1 on aggregate by PFC Marek Dupnitsa of Bulgaria

It’s been a busy summer at Central Park with plenty of ins and outs at LL16.
Manager Dewi Llion was busy early in the window as he secured five new signings as well as the return of loan star Owen Davies
Davies scored 10 goals in 15 games whilst on loan from The New Saints last term and was first through the door as Town secured the 19-year-old’s signature

The four were rounded up with Calum Butler who switched a postcode to join us from Ruthin Town whilst Iwan Roberts joined from Bala Town. DENBIGH TOWN RESERVES
Denbigh Town Reserves have begun their FAW Reserve League North East campaign.
New boss Jordan Baker couldn’t have asked for a better opening day as the side thrashed NFA at Ffordd Derwen 7-1 with Rhys Lloyd netting a hatrick, Tom Salisbury grabbing a brace and Olly Hansen also hit a double.
However, the side failed to back that up six days later as a stoppage time winner saw Town leave Mold Alexandra with nothing to show for their efforts. Down by a goal at the break, Callum Foster and Gabriel Hinchcliffe netted on their debuts but a leveller on 82 minutes and a 92nd minute winner saw Mold take three points.
Baker’s side are back in action tomorrow at Central Park as we host Gresford Athletic.
