Welcome to Central Park this afternoon for this JD Cymru North game against Bangor 1876.
I’d like to extend a warm Denbigh welcome to all the Bangor players, coaching team, Committee and supporters
When we last met at Bangor in October we ran out 4-3 winners thanks to an injury-time goal from Harrison Bellis in a great game. Sadly, there were scenes on the final whistle when both sets of supporters taunted each other in a threatening manner which tainted the manner of our win
Some of our supporters also encroached onto the pitch to celebrate the winner and the FAW have charged us for this along with a failure to control our supporters at the game We therefore wish to avoid any such events at today’s game and as such have arranged for extra security both inside and outside the ground The match is kicking off at midday and we will not be opening our clubhouse bar We are segregating supporters with the Bangor 1876 fans being allocated the area behind the Denbigh High School end of the ground. No alcohol or pyrotechnics are to be brought into the ground.
With these measures in place we trust that the match is as entertaining as the last one and both sets of supporters treat each other with respect and the game passes without incident on and off the field.
Our Ladies team have reached the semi-final of the Betty Pickering Shield and meet our neighbours Henllan Ladies tomorrow here at Central Park. Henllan are second in the League and our Ladies are third so it looks to be a close encounter Kick off is 2 00pm and it would be great to have a good crowd to watch the game.
We are now moving towards the end of the season with the last first team game scheduled here for Friday 4th April against Llay Welfare. Shortly after that we will start work on extending our pitch in both directions to comply with UEFA regulations for the UEFA Under 19s Tournament games being played here in June 2026 . The conifer hedge at the Denbigh High School end of the ground has been removed and replaced by a fence This gives us room to extend the pitch here, although it will mean us digging up the tarmac path that is in place
At the Myddleton College end of the ground we will move the fence that is in place now back some 3 metres having bought a strip of land from the Council. We will then dig into the bank to extend the pitch in this area Once the new extended pitch has been laid, a tarmac path will be built to ensure we have a walkway all around the perimeter of the pitch.
You can now see that we have reached first floor level with the blockwork on our new community facility. The joists will shortly be put in place for the ceiling, and we will then continue with blockwork on the first floor Our aim is to have the build completed in time for the start of next season.
In the meantime, enjoy this afternoon’s game
Welcome back to Central Park for this afternoon’s JD Cymru North game against Bangor 1876.
Last Saturday we travelled to Caersws who are battling for their survival in the League A 1-1 draw was a fair result in the end although I have to say I’m disappointed yet again that we conceded a late goal. This has been a regular occurrence this season and if only we had managed to hold on until the final whistle in games against Mold Alexandra (lost 2-1 and drew 11), Guilsfield (lost 4-3), Ruthin (drew 2-2), Llandudno (drew 2-2) and last week at Caersws. Not conceding these late goals would have seen our League position much higher than where we currently in 7th place.
Credit must go to Elijah Beattie for saving two penalties in our last two games both at crucial moments of the matches. We held on to beat Prestatyn 2-1 a fortnight ago here at Central Park and had they scored their 98th-minute penalty it would have been more points dropped Last week at Caersws he pulled off another great save in the 90th minute only for them to grab a 94th minute equaliser.
We weren’t at our best last week and weren’t helped by a poor playing surface which meant we had to play a lot of long balls which isn’t our forte. The poor wet weather has had its toll on several pitches this winter. Here at Central Park, the pitch has several patches which are very soft although the recent dry spell has helped and the grass is starting to grow
Owen Davies took his goal well for us to take the lead at Caersws and it’s been good to see him back scoring after a lean spell for him since the New Year This goal followed the brace he had against Prestatyn and the one he fired home against Ruthin, taking his League tally to fourteen for the season.
It was so good to welcome Keelan Williams back to playing action at Caersws after his planned operation at the start of the year. It’s been such a difficult time for him and thankfully he’s come through well enough and fit enough to feature in games to come.
Max Cooke is also another welcome return to the squad after three months of travelling It makes selection for today’s game interesting as everyone is available and we’ve trained well this week. We’ve had a keen rivalry with Bangor over recent seasons with lots of close games. Late goals have been a common feature of our last two games with them getting a 99th-minute equaliser here in the last game of last season.
Then we nabbed a 95th-minute winner at Nantporth last October in a game where we kept on taking the lead only for Bangor to keep coming back at us time and time again.
We’re aiming to stretch our five-game unbeaten run this afternoon, as we move into the final stages of the season
Caersws 1-1 Denbigh Town
Denbigh Town once again allowed points to slip in stoppage time as Caersws struck late in mid-Wales.
Owen Davies handed Town the lead with a header with 20 minutes to spare before Caersws looked to have a leveller in the final minute from the penalty spot. However, eight days on from his penalty save heroics against Prestatyn in stoppage time, Elijah Beattie stood tall once again to deny from the spot.
The hosts weren't beaten though, and deep into stoppage time Max McLaughlin was the hero when he scrambled it home in the third minute of four added on
Dewi Llion named one change to the side as Nathan Brown returned from suspension whilst Max Cooke returned from a period of travelling to take his place on the bench.
The game was a slow burner with the home side just about on top and it took 15 minutes for Denbigh’s first sight of goal when Alfie Vaughan stole possession in the box but his follow-up effort didn’t test the keeper.
A minute later an almost deadly error saw Beattie rush out for the ball only for Dan Flanders to attempt to hook it clear only to direct it over the keeper and towards goal before bouncing just wide
With 22 minutes on the clock Caersws made progress down the right channel before crossing for Rhys Hesden, his initial flick at goal was blocked before a rebound at the near post was denied by Beattie
12 minutes later a Brown corner was met by the head of Lockley but blocked at the first attempt before moments before the break Denbigh broke well through Davies finding Sam Duffy who one on one had his powerful shot blocked before the ricocheted ball smashed into his face and whizzed wide of the goal
The first opportunity of the second half fell to Town when a nice knock over the top for Vaughan saw the forward bring it down before his half-volley cleared the crossbar. Realistically it was a game of very few chances as both sides failed to test the opposite goalkeeper. That was until the last 20 minutes.
Denbigh were awarded a free-kick on halfway which Brown knocked forward finding Lockley, his looping header across goal was met by Davies who nodded home to earn the lead
Three minutes later Town made a change introducing Keelan Williams for the first time since December in a positive direction for the young defender.
Town could have made it two six minutes after opening the scoring when a corner from Brown led the ball to substitute Iwan Roberts who cut it back to Brown, his effort at the near post was well dealt with by the keeper.
Manager Dewi Llion also introduced Tom Salisbury with ten minutes to play and three minutes in he almost doubled the advantage. Pouncing on a mistake at the back he ran through at an angle but was smartly stopped by the feet of the Caersws custodian.
Salisbury was involved five minutes later though when a corner for the home side wasn’t cleared and Sam Phillips was fouled in the box by the youngster, with the referee pointing to the spot. Phillips stepped up by Beattie guessed right making an outstanding save in the final minute
However, as so often this season, as stoppage time came Town couldn’t survive and McLaughlin poked the ball home in a crowded box to share the points.
Denbigh Town: Beattie, Flanders, Lockley, Beaumont, S Jones, K Roberts, Pownall, Brown, Duffy, Davies, Vaughan
Subs: Wilmot, Williams, Cooke, Butler, Salisbury, Clarke, I.Roberts
Referee: Huw Jones
Attendance: Unknown
POTM: Ben Lockley - Another solid and consistent performance topped off with an impressive assist.
Denbigh Town Reserves were made to rue missed chances last weekend as they couldn’t find a winner in the Vale of Clwyd Derby.
Liam Nash’s side will take solace from their first clean sheet of the campaign though in a game where chances were few and far between
Both sides spent the majority of the first half feeling the game out with the first clear cut opportunity coming on 24 minutes Gabriel Hinchcliffe did well to knock a ball through to Salisbury who one on one couldn’t keep his effort down.
Two minutes later Ruthin had a chance of their own when Gruffudd Hughes pickpocketed Aled Jones only to drag his shot wide with only Jack Moorley to beat
The closest either side came in the match fell on 33 minutes when good pressure from Debigh led the ball falling to Salisbury in the box, he shaped himself to fire towards goal but his effort was met by the base of the left upright
The second half saw chances far more limited than the first with neither Moorley nor Oliver Leech called into action In fact, it took until the 69th minute for any chances of note when James fed the ball to Salisbury before being denied comfortably by the keeper.
In a contest that in reality hadn’t lived up to it’s billing it wasn’t until stoppage time that either side looked like winning it. James came the closest when during a succession of corners he was denied at the near post, before Ryan Roberts’ pinpoint ball forward met James who turned his man inside out but was denied by Leech
It ended goalless in front of a superb following of 240 at Central Park.

Denbigh Town Football Club was formed in 1880 and have been one of the longest-serving clubs in North Wales.
The early years saw the club play in a number of leagues including the North Wales Coast and Welsh Senior League, as well as time in the old Combination.
The club rose to fame in the 1920s when during the 1923/24 campaign, it won its first and only national honour, the Welsh Amateur Cup beating Lovell’s Athletic. The club went under different names throughout those years including United and Juniors before settling on Town in the 1950s
Following the Second World War Denbigh clinched numerous honours before the golden period of the 1970s that saw the club dominate the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) winning four successive league titles
After turning to the Clwyd Premier following the departure of successful manager John Trefor Roberts, the club shot back up the ladder upon the appointment of Bill Dawson who took the club from the Clwyd Premier to the Cymru Alliance in just four years
The club remained in the second tier for six years before returning to the Welsh Alliance but under Tim Dyer the club was promoted alongside a Cookson Cup success in 2007.
In 2013/14 the club went unbeaten in the Welsh Alliance earning a third promotion to tier two after their return to the division in 2010. In 2015/16 the club reached it’s second national final and the biggest game in club history when reaching the League Cup Final, losing to professional outfit TNS on national television.
Upon relegation from the Cymru Alliance in 2019, manager Dewi Llion rebuilt his squad and in 2023 earned a league and cup double to move up to the JD Cymru North, finishing 6th in their first season back

The club's inaugural match was against fellow fan-owned team FC United of Manchester, and the first competitive match was in the Gwynedd League, a 4–1 away victory against Ogwen Tigers on 10 August 2019 A successful first season saw the club leading the league, with a 100 per cent win ratio, when the season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. They were crowned league champions following the announcement that all Welsh football seasons would finish with a table decided on a points-pergame basis
The club joined the newly formed North Wales Coast West Football League in the tier four Premier Division in 2020 The inaugural season was cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic and instead started in August 2021 The club finished as divisional runners up in the 2021–22 season and was promoted to the tier three Ardal NW League for the 2022–23 season The club rounded the season off by winning the North Wales Coast West Football League Premier Cup, beating Bodedern Athletic 3–0 in the final.
The club won their opening match in the third tier against Rhydymwyn FC 8–1 They finished the season in second place behind Denbigh Town, and hence qualified for the Lock Stock Ardal Northern Play–Off final. The club won the play–off against Cefn Albion and secured promotion to the tier two Cymru North
In December 2024, supporters voted to rename the club to Bangor City 1876 FC The new name is likely to be introduced for the 2025–26 season.

Denbigh Town and Bangor 1876 have a storied history in the past couple of seasons. Here we look back at our first meeting of this campaign and the last clash we had at Central Park
Bangor 1876 3-4 Denbigh Town (JD Cymru North11/10/2024)
Perhaps the most dramatic match of the campaign so far, Town snatched a late win at Bangor in our last meeting back in October.
Nathan Brown and Owen Davies gave Town an early lead before Tom Clarke and Mason Blackwell-Jones levelled Paul Fleming regained the lead for Town on 67 minutes before Joe Culshaw made it 3-3 with 12 minutes to play
Deep into stoppage time substitute Harrison Bellis made his mark when a mad scramble in the box was turned home by the forward to secure a superb win at Nantporth
Denbigh Town: A Jones, Williams, Cooke, B Lockley, K Roberts, Butler, Brown, Duffy, I Roberts, Davies
Subs: Wilmot, H.Lockley, Stark, Vaughan, Fleming, Bellis
Attendance: 451
Denbigh Town 2-2 Bangor 1876 (JD Cymru North23/04/2024)
The last time Bangor came to Central Park a fiesty contest ended in a point apiece with a late leveller for the visitors from Gwynedd.
Josh Lock opened the scoring for Denbigh on 24 minutes before Owen Davies blasted home from the halfway line to ensure Dewi Llion’s side took a 2-0 lead into the break following a superb start
However, a Liam Morris double in the 82nd and 99th minute saw Bangor snatch a late point at LL16.
Denbigh Town: A Jones, B Lockley, Holmes, Parry-Jones, S Jones, Gibbins, K Roberts, Lock, Fleming, Brown, Davies
Subs: Cooke, H.Lockley, Cooper, Hansen, Herbert, Lloyd
Attendance: 428
It’s Semi-Final time for Denbigh Town!

Ladies are through to the final four of the Betty Pickering Shield after a 3-1 win away at Welshpool recently.
Goals from Ceri Purvis, Paige Perkins and Lucy Morris saw the Girls through 3-1 in midWales.
The Ladies will face either Henllan at Central Park tomorrow.
Last weekend the winning form continued with an excellent 5-0 win over Coedpoeth in a battle for top spot in the league.
The JD Cymru North is far from settled with the final few weeks of the campaign underway.
It’s a two horse race when it comes to the title with it going to the wire at the summit. Airbus UK Broughton and Colwyn Bay are battling it out with the Bay top of the pile and one point clear. Airbus had a game in hand which they played in midweek, beating Llay 5-0 to bridge the gap.
Last season’s champions Holywell sit third but well adrift along with high-risers Llandudno who have entered the top four.
At the bottom, Llay Miners Welfare’s relegation to the Lock Stock Ardal Northern Leagues was confirmed recently with Prestatyn on the brink. They need to win each of their last four games and hope for Ruthin and Caersws to lose all remaining fixtures, and even then, goal difference wouldn’t be on their side. In fact, by the time this goes to print, they could already be down having faced Colwyn Bay last night.
Caersws’ point against Denbigh saw them lift themselves out of the drop zone at the expense of Ruthin with the Bluebirds facing basement side Llay today.
Bangor know a loss tonight and wins for Caersws and Ruthin over the course of the weekend would see them drop into the relegation zone with three games to spare as those at the bottom fight for their right to compete in the division next term.
