THE CHAIRMAN

Welcome to Central Park for tonight’s JD Cymru North league game against Llandudno.

I’d like to extend a warm Denbigh welcome to all the Llandudno players, coaching team, Committee and supporters

Work on our steel structure continues to progress. You can see the balcony has had a lot of work carried out on it over the last couple of weeks as the base for the balcony floor is coming into view. I’m hoping that the block work for the walls will start soon with it hopefully being completed by Christmas.

Earlier this week we were visited by the UEFA delegate who is responsible for the pitch and ground regulations at the UEFA EURO Under 19s Championship with games to be held here at Central Park He was accompanied by Dewi Evans of the FAW who is the Transport and Logistics Manager for the tournament

The meeting was very informative, and we have some work to do over the next year or so to make us compatible with the criteria needed for hosting the internationals. Along with the work we are having done at our new building we will have to have new duggouts which must hold 16 people . Our existing ones are too small as only hold 8 people. We must must have a TV gantry put in place with a room for commentators and other media.

As part of the Tier one criteria we’re applying for we will need a separate room near the gantry as the FAW intend to introduce VAR in the forthcoming seasons VAR Officials will be situated in the ground within this room

Back to the European Championships, a room has to be supplied for the UEFA delegate who will be attending that day along with a medical room for the players and a separate medical room for spectators . We hope we can overcome the spectators room by having St John’s Ambulance at the games to cover this area. An additional set of goalposts is required in case one of the existing sets breaks during the game

The length of our pitch and the run off area on the pitch has to be extended to comply with the UEFA tournament rules Our pitch at the moment is too wide for the tournament so this will have to be narrowed These are just some of the items that we will have to arrange in time for the 2026 tournament.

This is quite some workload for us to arrange although I am extremely confident that all of the points that have been raised can be done in good time .

The First Team have had some great results over recent weeks with two wins in the league, a draw and last week's cup win It’s good to see their form improve after a shaky start to the season as the new players settled into the team Let’s hope this continues tonight

Enjoy the game

THE GAFFER

Welcome back to Central Park for this evening’s JD Cymru North game against Llandudno.

It’s back to league action after our 4-2 win over Llangefni Town last week in the JD Welsh Cup Round Two That game was played here at Central Park on Saturday afternoon in glorious sunshine and was our first home game on a Saturday since February. It was pleasing to see a healthy 177 crowd attend with a good turnout from the visiting team

That game allowed some lads to play who have not played a full 90 minutes for a while. We made several changes to our starting line-up Mackenzie Stark made his first start in a Denbigh shirt after coming on as a sub in a couple of games and he coped well as a central defender alongside Ben Lockley.

Harrison Bellis also made the starting line-up for the first time since July as he impressed with the Reserves and then got the winner in our 4-3 win at Bangor. Harrison definitely made his mark in this cup tie by nabbing two well-taken goals and proving a real threat up front

Central midfielder Keiron Roberts had taken a knock on his knee in the Bangor game, and we felt it was an opportune time to rest Keiron with Paul Fleming coming in as his replacement Flem got our fourth goal, just at the time Llangefni were really threatening to pull level, he has played such an important part in this squad for the last few seasons His experience is invaluable as is his knack for scoring important goals at vital times, just like our third goal against Bangor a fortnight ago

Harry Lockley also came into the starting eleven having not played for the first team since our Gresford game at the end of August Since then, he has been away on International duty at the Transplant World Cup Tournament in Italy and has had minutes with the Reserves. Harry made an unfortunate slip in the early minutes of the game to gift Llangefni their first goal To his credit, he shrugged that error off quickly and went on to have a really effective game at left-back.

It's so difficult as a defender if you make a mistake as it can really affect your confidence Sion Jones miscued a ball in the last minute of our game against Mold to allow them to equalise and yet to his credit he bounced back to have an outstanding game against Bangor 1876 A striker can miss a chance at goal, but for a defender, it’s another matter if you make a mistake that leads to a goal and the lads we have are all strong characters who overcome these types of adversities.

The final change to our starting line-up last week saw young Alfie Vaughan take up an impressive midfield role Alfie is such a strong skilful lad for his age and has a bright future ahead of him in the game. The same can also be said of 16-year-old Tom Salusbury who came on as a sub during the game for his first appearance at Central Park in a First Team shirt.

Tonight, it’s back to league action and we’re looking to carry on with our recent spell of good form We trained well on Wednesday night and have a full squad available. Keiron will have a late fitness test before I announce the team Competition for places is fierce and this is good for the morale of the squad with everyone knowing they are playing their part in a team game

Llandudno have had an indifferent start to the season with two wins from their eleven games They have a young squad with two ex-Denbigh players, the Bennett brothers in their ranks. Both Luca and Harvey were part of our 2022/23 title-winning squad and we could all see their promise during their time with ourselves

We’re looking for three points tonight to continue to push up the league. Enjoy the game. Thanks for your support

BELLIS BRACE HELPS TOWN TO ROUND THREE

Harrison Bellis’ series of firsts continued this weekend with a brace on route to Town’s 4-2 Cup success against Llangefni.

Two weeks ago he netted in a Town shirt for the first time in the Reserves, scored his maiden first team goal last week at Bangor and now has his first at Central Park to take control of the tie

Denbigh came from behind in this one after an early strike from Jack Smith but a brace from Bellis saw Town go into the break with the lead After the restart Nathan Brown extended the advantage before Ifan Mansoor came off the bench to reduce it However, in stoppage time Paul Fleming capped off an important win to send Denbigh into the Third Round for the first time in six years

Dewi Llion made five changes to the side that won at Bangor a week before with Harry Lockley, Mackenzie Stark, Bellis, Fleming and Alfie Vaughan coming into the XI

Town began the opening two minutes with purpose but the game was quickly halted when captain Jack Williams went down needing treatment before being stretchered off the field after a lengthy stoppage

After the restart Llangefni rallied and on 12 minutes took the lead when Smith picked up a loose ball and slotted it past Aaron Jones

Denbigh’s first chance came on 22 minutes when Brown swung a corner in that met the head of Vaughan only for his effort to sail wide of the far post. Denbigh were well and truly on the hunt and on half hour should have been level only for a nice move to be ended by Bellis’ one-on-one being saved by the legs of Gethin Hughes.

Two minutes later it was at the other end where the net should have bulged. A free-kick was swung in by the visitors and met the head of Jamie Thomas, but with the freedom of the area couldn’t find the target.

Denbigh would threaten again with 35 on the clock when another Brown corner met another Vaughan header which bounced into the turf before going harmlessly wide If that was a warning shot, the next would surely find the target and it did Bellis began a great move by feeding it wide to Brown before his effort was pushed away by Hughes only for the in-form forward to drill the ball home on the follow-up to level things

Into the third minute of stoppage time and Denbigh were pressing for the lead, eventually grabbing it when a bombardment of the box saw Keelan Williams float the ball in meeting the head of Brown, before it fell to Bellis to put the finishing touches to it

After the break it was Town who had the first sight of goal when Williams weaved his way into the box before his effort was cleared from danger just yards out Williams was involved again two minutes later when Harry Lockley’s cross found him at the back post but his shot cannoned off a Town attacker and away from danger

Llangefni were still a danger and on 53 minutes Cameron Jones should have found the target but his header sailed wide after some nice work on the right. This helpful reminder saw Town refocus and on 63 minutes doubled the advantage. A free-kick 35-yards out on the right was stood over by Brown who spotted the keeper in a poor position and drilled it home.

Denbigh made the first of their changes two minutes later which included the introduction of 16-year-old Tom Salisbury for his senior home debut, as well as Billy Holmes who did the same for Denbigh 13 years beforehand.

Llangefni were running out of time but were gifted a lifeline with 18 minutes to play when substitute Ifan Mansoor was handed the ball by the Town backline and drilled it into the bottom corner with Jones rooted to the spot.

Now setting up a nervy finish, Denbigh almost restored the two goal lead when Salisbury nodded the ball down for Fleming who in turn played it to Sam Duffy, but his effort dragged wide from the edge of the box. On 87 minutes goalkeeper Jones was called into action when Harry Hughes drilled an effort from range that the Town custodian saw late but brilliantly tipped it over the crossbar. From the resulting corner the ball was fired at goal but Harry Lockley made an outstanding goal line clearance to deny.

Into stoppage time and the game hung in the balance, but Denbigh sealed their place when Salisbury found Iwan Roberts who’s effort was saved only for Fleming to pick up the scraps and roll it under the ‘keeper to make it four

BRIEF HISTORY: DENBIGH TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB

Denbigh Town Football Club was formed in 1880 and have been one of the longest-serving clubs in North Wales.

The early years saw the club play in a number of leagues including the North Wales Coast and Welsh Senior League, as well as time in the old Combination.

The club rose to fame in the 1920s when during the 1923/24 campaign, it won its first and only national honour, the Welsh Amateur Cup beating Lovell’s Athletic. The club went under different names throughout those years including United and Juniors before settling on Town in the 1950s

Following the Second World War Denbigh clinched numerous honours before the golden period of the 1970s that saw the club dominate the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) winning four successive league titles

After turning to the Clwyd Premier following the departure of successful manager John Trefor Roberts, the club shot back up the ladder upon the appointment of Bill Dawson who took the club from the Clwyd Premier to the Cymru Alliance in just four years

The club remained in the second tier for six years before returning to the Welsh Alliance but under Tim Dyer the club was promoted alongside a Cookson Cup success in 2007.

In 2013/14 the club went unbeaten in the Welsh Alliance earning a third promotion to tier two after their return to the division in 2010. In 2015/16 the club reached it’s second national final and the biggest game in club history when reaching the League Cup Final, losing to professional outfit TNS on national television.

Upon relegation from the Cymru Alliance in 2019, manager Dewi Llion rebuilt his squad and in 2023 earned a league and cup double to move up to the JD Cymru North, finishing 6th in their first season back

HISTORY COULD CALL IN THE JD WELSH CUP

Denbigh Town will have the chance to make history next month when Dewi Llion’s side head to Llanrwst.

Town were drawn away to Llanrwst United in the JD Welsh Cup Third Round having reached this stage for the first time since 2018, but focus will soon turn to another milestone

A victory for Denbigh would see them reach Round Four for the first time in 52 years having last reached that stage in 1972.

Dewi Llion’s side overcame Llangefni Town in the previous round with Harrison Bellis bagging a brace as well as goals from Nathan Brown and Paul Fleming. It was Denbigh’s first game in the competition this season having recieved a bye in the First Round following their top eight finish in the JD Cymru North last term

Meanwhile, Llanrwst have already knocked out four sides to get to this stage They began in the First Qualifying Round away at Rhos United winning 4-0 before another qualifying success over Cemaes Bay They were drawn against league rivals Menai Bridge Tigers at Gwydir Park in the First Round passing the test with ease in a 5-1 win Finally, last round they took on fourth tier side Cerrigydrydion where despite going a goal down they turned it around with two goals in the last ten minutes

The two sides haven’t met since May 2023 where with the game in the balance at 1-1 Craig Pritchard netted twice late in a tense game on route to a league and cup double

Llanrwst remain in the Lock Stock Ardal North-West where they currently sit 8th in the table after eight games, winning four, drawing twice and losing twice

Behind a few for games played in the league, Llanrwst are going strong and remain in three cup competitions with a great run in the FAW Amateur Cup as well as the Lock Stock Ardal Northern League Cup. They’ll compete in all three competitions in November with ties against Nantlle Vale on November 2nd in the Trophy, Denbigh in the Welsh Cup and finally Llannefydd in the League Cup

Ties for the next round to be played on the weekend of November 15-16

Capacity: 3,000 (1,100 seated)

Nickname: Seasiders

Founded: 1988

2023/24: 12th

Manager: Jordan Hadaway

Following a century of football in Llandudno with clubs coming and going in the town, Llandudno re-formed and renamed Llandudno Football Club in 1988.

The club moved to its current home at Maesdu Park in 1991 after the "council field" was used for the construction of an ASDA store in the late 1970s, now the new Parc Llandudno

The current ground was officially opened in 1991 and floodlights were added in 1994

In August 2014, Wales manager Chris Coleman visited Maesdu Park to officially open Llandudno's new £420,000 3G pitch

After a successful 2014–15 Cymru Alliance season, Llandudno were promoted as champions to the Welsh Premier League for the first time in their history

In July 2015, Llandudno FC entered into a significant strategic partnership with local organisation, MBi Consulting Ltd As such the club was known as MBi Llandudno Football Club and Maesdu Park was renamed as Park MBi Maesdu Llandudno enjoyed a remarkable first season in the Welsh Premier League which saw them finish 3rd and earn them a place in the Europa League for the first time in their history in 2016–17 They exited the competition at the first hurdle against Sweedish side IFK Göteborg.

The club were relegated back to the second tier in the 2018–19 season and in their first full season following the disruption to football finished second in the JD Cymru North in 2021/22 under Sean Eardley. The Seasiders finished in a respectable 3rd the following year behind runaway sides Holywell Town and champions Colwyn Bay before the manager stepped down in the summer. Jordan Hadaway was appointed before a drop in form that saw Llandudno finish 13th The club were temporarily unable to play at their home ground with a number of players moving on from the side. They played their home matches at Y Morfa in Conwy before finally heading back to Llandudno at the end of 2023

Llandudno 2-2 Denbigh Town (JD Cymru North06/12/2023)

Goals from Matthew Worrall and Nathan Brown were enough to secure a point as Town played out a 2-2 draw in Llandudno back in December 2023.

Former Denbigh forward Harvey Bennett struck after less than two minutes before Worrall levelled, and after the break Town turned the game on it’s head through Brown’s strike However, five minutes from time Ethan Roberts’ goal meant Denbigh had their first draw in 410 days
