Chairman’s Notes
Welcome to Central Park for this evening’s JD Cymru North League game against CPD Bangor 1876.
I’d like to extend a warm Denbigh welcome to all the Bangor players, coaching team, Committee and supporters.
This time last year both teams were vying for promotion from the Tier 3 Lock Stock Ardal North West League. It was a great contest which went right to the final day of the League and whilst we won the League, Bangor won the Tier 3 playoff final against Cefn Albion of the North East League and were also able to gain promotion to the Tier 2 JD Cymru North League.
This season sees both teams in contention for fifth position and it is testament to the management teams of both squads that the quality they showed in Tier 3 continues in Tier 2. Tonight’s encounter is sure to be a close one.
When the two teams met here at Central Park last February, unfortunately it was marred with violent scenes off the pitch. This has seen both Clubs charged by the FAW for failing to control their supporters on the night and both ourselves and Bangor wish to avoid any such occurrences again tonight.
It is for this reason that there will be added security at the ground with us employing the services of qualified Security staff who will be operating throughout the ground. We are also grateful to Bangor officials for supplying stewards themselves to help with looking after the Bangor supporters.
We are segregating supporters with Denbigh’s supporters allocated to standing behind the goal at the Myddleton College part of the ground. CPD Bangor 1876 supporters will be taking up the area at the Denbigh High School end of the ground.
Home and away supporters will enter the ground through designated turnstiles.
Alchohol, drugs and pyrotechnics are strictly prohibited from being brought onto the premises and security staff will be carrying out searches of bags and individuals to ensure we keep a safe environment at the game.
We all hope that all the action will be on the pitch tonight and look forward to an entertaining game.
Enjoy the game.

Manager’s Notes
Welcome to Central Park for tonight’s game against CPD Bangor 1876
Both teams have done well since their promo on last season and are in the top half of the JD Cymru North and are in 5th and 6th posi on. It goes to show the standard of the Tier 3 Lock Stock Ardal North West League in that we’ve both more tax held our own in this league.
Last week though, there’s no bea ng around the bush , it was a poor me for us with three defeats in seven days.
As a management team we were happy with our performance against league leaders Holywell on a very poor pitch. We held our own un l half me and could well have been leading. Two a acks in the second half saw them score two fortunate goals. The pitch ou oxed our keeper Aaron with a long ball not bouncing in front of him and allowing their striker through on goal. Then Ben Lockley got his feet stuck in the mud as Holywell played a long ball over his head and he was unable to react and they were able to break free and fire home. By the me the third goal went in the game was over as a contest.
Last Tuesday against Gresford we played some of our best football all season in the first half to go in 1-1 at the turn. To go down 5-2 at the end was so disappoin ng and the turning point was them making five subs tu ons within a short period of me. This changed their setup and we failed to react to the changes made. So lax defending was our downfall and it was a bi er result to take.
We then travelled to Newtown last Saturday to play Guilsfield on the 4G pitch. We just didn’t get going properly and it was another heavy defeat. We had good spells in the game and had chances which we should have taken early on which could well have affected the game. We had a very strong claim for a penalty early on at 0-0 a er Owen Davies was scythed down in the box only to be yellow carded for diving. Even the Guilsfield players felt it was a definite penalty so to see Owen carded really felt unfair.
I’d like to thank all those hardy supporters who made the long journey to Newtown to follow the lads.It really is so much appreciated - we’re just sorry we couldn’t put on a be er performance. These results have knocked us and we’ve discussed this at length in training this week . It’s a big game tonight and we want to return to winning ways and back to the Denbigh results we’ve all been accustomed to.
This evening we have Josh Lock having a late fitness test a er picking up a knock last weekend. Other than that we have a full squad available.
We’re an cipa ng a large crowd and we’ll be looking to the lads pu ng on a decent performance and come through with the three points we need a er last week’s results.
Enjoy the game
Dewi Llion Jones ManagerPREVIEW | Denbigh Town v Bangor 1876
Thursday Night Lights
Denbigh Town’s penultimate home match of the season takes place on Thursday night as Bangor 1876 arrive at Central Park.
Here we look ahead to the key clash as both sides battle it out for a place in the top five in their first season in the JD Cymru North.
Form
Denbigh come into this one on the back of their worst form of the season having lost three on the spin and four of their last five matches. Saturday saw Town travel to Newtown to take on Guilsfield where four goals went unanswered before Dion Gibbins’ late consolation. It followed on from just Denbigh’s second home loss in the league last Tuesday at home to Gresford. Dewi Llion’s side will be desperate to end the rut this week.
Bangor 1876 are unbeaten in their last three matches and will be raring to go following an impressive 1-0 home win over Mold Alexandra on Saturday. The Citizens won by the odd goal in a seven-score thriller away at Prestatyn beforehand whilst they shared the spoils with Ruthin Town at the beginning of March. Their last defeat came over a month ago away at title-chasing Flint Town United,
Head-to-Head
Our last meeting with Bangor came at Nantporth back in August, with the home side taking the points in a 2-1 victory. Sam Jones and Jamie Petrie netted for Bangor whilst Craig Pritchard pulled one back in the second half.
We met three times last season with Town taking all three victories, including two at Central Park. One came in the league as Denbigh pipped Bangor to the title with help from a 1-0 win via a Matthew Worrall strike, whilst the other match in Denbighshire ended 3-1 to Denbigh as skipper Paul Fleming scored a sensational hatrick on route to winning the Lock Stock Ardal Northern League Cup.
Stat Pack
Nathan Brown could make his 50th league appearance for Denbigh Town on Thursday night.
Ben Lockley could make his 75th appearance for the club in all competitions.
This will be just the sixth league meeting between the two sides since 1929. We’ve shared seventeen seasons in the previous 131 years, with the first coming in 1893/94 in the old North Wales Coast League, the next two (1909/10, 1910/11) in the Combination League, three further seasons in the Coast League (1913/14, 1919/20, 1920/21) and the majority (1921-29) in the Welsh National League. After 1929 the two wouldn’t meet in the league until Bangor were relegated to the Cymru Alliance in 2018, 89 years later.
Total League Record: Denbigh Town Wins: 10, Bangor Wins: 20, Draws: 3.

You can keep up to date with all the action via the club’s social media channels including live text commentary via our X (FKA Twitter) page and match report on the club website post-match. For live updates as they happen follow Denbigh Town on the Cymru Football

Guilsfield 4-1 Denbigh Town
Town's Poor Form Continues with mid-Wales Walloping
Denbigh Town’s poor form continued this afternoon, as Guilsfield breezed past Town in a 4-1 drubbing at Latham Park.
It’s now three defeats on the bounce for the first time in five years as Dewi Llion’s side risk losing out on a top-five finish in the JD Cymru North.
Carved open twice in the first half Town allowed two further second-half goals before Dion Gibbins grabbed a late consolation to open his account for the club. The game was summed up for the visitors when Nathan Brown’s poor penalty was saved in stoppage time.
Denbigh made two changes to the side that lost to Gresford Athletic on Tuesday with Max Cooke making his full debut and Keiron Roberts returning to the side following suspension.
Denbigh despite the result started the game well controlling possession and looking sharp in the early goings, but despite this, the first chance fell to the home side. A blind pass from Roberts gifted the ball to Iwan Matthews who one on one couldn’t find the target. A let-off for Denbigh.
Two minutes later those in attendance braced themselves for referee Arthur Smallman to blow the whistle for a penalty as Owen Davies was scythed down in the box, but instead, the referee blew for simulation and booked the forward.
Town persevered and continued to put the pressure on, but looked vulnerable on the break and that was made evident on 16 minutes when Guilsfield took the lead. The hosts made inroads down the right before a low cross from Reece Warder found Matthews to tap home.
Denbigh’s solid performance continued though no real chances came of note until the 34th minute when Nathan Brown’s corner found the head of Gibbins, whose effort went over.
Guilsfield themselves were solid and arguably value for the lead, forward Matthews was causing problems and on 37 minutes before forcing Aaron Jones into a smart stop. They had to be on their toes though as Town went down the other end with a ball over the top for Davies, he crossed for Josh Lock who had his effort blocked.
Six minutes before the break Guilsfield doubled their advantage. Again a cross from the right channel, this time from Callum Bromley, found the head of top marksman Matthews. Both sides ended the half with a chance each, first Sion Jones cut in from the left before lashing a shot wide, before Aaron Jones was tested once again from a volley sweetly hit by Warder.
Half-Time: Guilsfield 2-0 Denbigh Town
Needing a response to avoid yet another defeat, Town had to start the half strong and within the first ten minutes did carve out chances. Brown picked the ball up on the left before striking the ball against the crossbar. Minutes later Lock had an effort from the edge of the box fly wide.
Denbigh came close to getting back in it but with chances coming and going they suddenly found themselves down by three. As Town continued the pressure in Guilsfield’s final third a sudden break from the home side found Joe Haycock on the right who darted forward before blasting home.
As the minutes ticked by it became a question of just how many the home side might score. Bromley crossed dangerously with the ball bouncing across the face of goal before Matthews clipped the top of the crossbar with a shot from distance.
With 19 to play Guilsfield had the fourth they’d been searching for, Warder this time finishing after an initial stop from Jones.
On 81 minutes Denbigh got themselves on the scoresheet, as Gibbins finished in the box through a crowd of bodies after Brown’s cross. A consolation if ever there was one but Gibbins is off the mark for Town at least.
Both sides saw glimpses of goal in the dying embers, Jamie Hyne found the side netting with a shot from the right which looked destined to be heading in, whilst Town almost halved the deficit in stoppage time.
The referee this time pointed to the spot and Brown stepped up, but his tame effort was saved by Robbie Williams. The final action saw Davies try from a header that Williams claimed well.
Denbigh are next in action on Thursday night with the visit of Bangor 1876 to Central Park.

REPORT | Denbigh Town Ladies 3-2 Welshpool Town Women
Lawson's Ladies Secure Second!
Denbigh Town Ladies have secured the runners-up spot in the North Wales Women’s Football League East with a superb 3-2 win over Welshpool
In a fiery encounter at Central Park goals from Natalie Harrison, Catrin Davies and Ceri Purvis secured the three vital points that snatched 2nd in the table with a game to spare. Welshpool, a much-changed outfit than the side well beaten in the reverse fixture started well and put Town under significant pressure in the early stages, though ‘keeper Young was rarely tested.
The best chance in the early goings fell to Ceri Purvis, as a cross from the left from Catrin Davies found it’s way to the feet of the veteran forward, but she couldn’t keep her effort down as it sailed harmlessly over the bar. Eventually, on the half-hour mark the deadlock was broken, as Welshpool continued to turn the screw. After a half clearance fell to Lucie Gwilt to the left of the box 20 yards out, her effort flew over the head of the keeper to give the mid-Wales side the lead.
However, the advantage lasted less than two minutes. Harrison had been introduced just seven minutes earlier for Tia Adler who was forced off through injury, and the forward was set through running half the pitch before slotting home past Sarah Parkes.
Both sides continued to hunt for the game’s third goal and Harrison thought she had it just before the break but Parkes rushed out well to deny her a second before going in for halftime.
Half-Time: Denbigh Town Ladies 1-1 Welshpool Town Women
With the game in the balance, it was always going to take one of these sides grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck, and so within three minutes, it became clear who that side was. Catrin Davies made inroads down the left channel before swinging the ball in and a deflection took the ball away from the path of the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Not keen to rest on the slender lead, Town continued to put the pressure on and Sophie Bancroft’s cross found the head of Harrison who’s effort was gathered. However, on 57 minutes the lead was doubled. Purvis was in the right place at the right time to head home a cross from Lowri Claybrook to give Town some breathing space
In a face paced start to the half Welshpool quickly got back into it, as a sensational strike from Beth Lane from 30-yards sailed into the top corner.
Now suddenly Town had to cling onto a slight advantage, and looked to add to it via a plethora of chances. First, Harrison saw the ball drop to her on the edge of the box before dragging wide, whilst Davies also latched on to a Purvis pass on the left but the keeper stood firm to deny the shot at her near post.
The best chance for Denbigh to seal the game came with five minutes to spare, as Harrison pulled the ball back across the face of goal and somehow substitute Charlotte Cooper put it wide from just a few yards out.
Not to matter, Town clung on in the dying stages to secure the runners-up spot in the NWWFL East in a tremendous campaign for Ellen Lawson’s side.
They next face Berriew away from home in the final game of the league season before facing Llangefni Town in the Quarter-Final of the Betty Pickering Cup.

Brief History
Denbigh Town Football Club was formed in 1880 and has remained one of the most popular and highly respected Clubs in North Wales ever since. One of the Club’s finest achievements came in 1924 when they won both the Welsh Amateur Cup and the North Wales Coast Amateur Cup.
A number of minor successes ensued in the subsequent decades until the Club hit a purple patch in the 1970s when they won the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Division One Championship four times and the League Cup on five occasions. Town also landed the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1970 and the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1972. The manager through most of this golden period was John Trevor Roberts who remains one of Denbigh Town’s most legendary figures.
After the Club left the Wrexham Area League at the turn of the 1980s and joined the Clwyd League many trophy less years followed. The sleeping giant did not awaken until the 1991/1992 season when Liverpudlian duo Bill Dawson and Rook Cook-Hannah took over the reins at the Club.
In their first season the Club won promotion to the Premier Division, but the biggest highlight was an unforgettable 1-0 North Wales Challenge Cup Victory over the 4th placed HFS Loans League semiprofessionals of Caernarfon Town before an ecstatic crowd at Central Park.
After two seasons in the Clwyd Premier, the Club was promoted to the Fitlock Welsh Alliance League in 1994/95. After finishing 4th in their first season Denbigh Town followed up in style by landing the League Championship and Cookson Cup double, the Club’s finest achievement for almost 20 years. The Club joined the Cymru Alliance in 1996/97 and enjoyed several good seasons at that level.
Denbigh joined the Welsh Alliance Leagie for 2002/2003 and finished 3rd, reached the semi-final of the Barritt Cup and won the Alves Cup with Roy Cook-Hannah at the helm. Cook- Hannah resigned in December 2003 and Clwyd Williams & Nick Hailes were installed as joint-managers. The team finished the season in 12th position.
In May 2004 Tim Dyer was appointed manager and in 2005/2006 he guided the team to the Barritt Cup and Cookson Cup double, runners up in the Welsh Alliance League and also finalists in the North Wales Coast FA Challenge Cup. The Club also won the Welsh Alliance Fair Play League for 2005/2006 & 2006/2007. In 2007 Denbigh Town were crowned Welsh Alliance League Champions and Cookson Cup winners.
After Tim Dyer stepped down at the end of the 2008/2009 season Steve Jones was appointed manager with Dean Martin as his assistant. Under the new regime the team finished 10th in the 2009/2010 Cymru Alliance League. Unfortunately, due to the Welsh Premier Super 12, six clubs were relegated from the Welsh Premier and the 3 feeder leagues all promoted a club to the Cymru Alliance. This meant only the top 7 survived in the Cymru Alliance and so Denbigh Town were relegated to the Welsh Alliance League. Jones and his assistant Martin resigned in May 2010.
John James and Andy Lewis were appointed manager and coach for the 2010/2011 season.
Despite relegation the Club started ground development with hard standing area placed all around the perimeter of the ground and floodlights were installed in April 2012.
In 2012/2013 ex-player and captain Richard Williams- Cooke was appointed manager. In his first season Cookie took the club to runners up position in the Welsh Alliance League. The following season the Club won the league, remaining unbeaten throughout the whole league campaign and also won the Mawddach Cup. The Club were promoted to the Cymru Alliance – the Tier 2 level of Welsh football
Cookie resigned in June 2014 due to work and family commitments. A joint management team of Dave Taylor and Terry Ingram were appointed in his place, but they parted company with club a few months later. In September 2014 the Club appointed Elfed Lloyd and 1st team Captain Max Peate as caretaker managers for the rest of that season.
Gareth Thomas (Perry) was appointed manager on 21st May 2015, and he led the Club to 3rd position in the Cymru Alliance in season 2015/2016. In the same season Perry also took the Club to the Word Cup Final losing 2-0 to treble winners The New Saints (TNS).
However, in November 2016 the Club parted company with Perry and Eddie Maurice Jones was appointed manager
Maurice-Jones took the Club to its highest ever finish in the Cymru Alliance – that of 2nd in the season 2017/2018. However, at the end of that season Maurice-Jones moved to become manager of Rhyl and many of the players followed him.
New joint managers Dewi Llion Jones & Matty Jones had the task of forming a team with new players with only a few weeks left before the start of the season. Despite a valiant effort by the managers and their new team the Club fell into the relegation zone on the last day of the season 2018/2019 and were relegated to the Welsh Alliance.
Matty Jones left the joint managership role in April 2019 and Dewi Llion Jones was appointed sole manager for the season 2019/2020. He appointed former Town player Owain Roberts as his coach. A strong season followed but the Covid 19 pandemic meant the season was cut short and Denbigh were appointed runners up in the league to Holyhead Hotspurs.
The Welsh Alliance League finished in 2019/2020 and Denbigh Town were placed in the new Lock Stock Ardal North West League for the season 2021/22.
The club narrowly missed out on the promotion spots in the season 2021/2022 finishing third.
History
In April 2019, the then Bangor City FC Supporters’ Association held a meeting at which it decided to become incorporated as a Supporters’ Trust, following the example of a number of other supporters’ groups, including those running Chester FC and Wrexham AFC.
With a view to actively engaging with, and involving, the whole community, and working with partners who share its vision for a cohesive, sustainable and inclusive future for competitive football in Bangor, the Association applied to the Financial Conduct Authority to become a Supporters’ Community Mutual widely known by the description Supporters’ Trust or, in our case, a Society.
On 31 May 2019, it was informed that its application had been approved and the new Society started trading immediately. With a view to ensuring the continuity of competitive football of the highest possible standard in the city, and its catchment area, the Society began the process of establishing a new football club.
Society members were invited to propose their names for the new football club and Bangor 1876 was the overwhelming choice of the membership. An application for membership was lodged with the Football Association of Wales and in mid-June Clwb Pêl-Droed Bangor 1876 Football Club was placed into the Gwynedd Football League (Tier 5).
The name Bangor 1876 is an acknowledgement and homage to the origins of organised football in Bangor, which can be traced back to a public meeting held in the Magistrates Room on 18 December 1876. Then, as now, the aim was to ensure the continuity of competitive football of the highest possible standard in the city and its catchment area.
Back in 1876, blue and red were adopted as the official club colours with subscriptions fixed at five shillings. Suitable accommodation was found when a field adjoining the old Friars School, subsequently known as Maes-y-Dref, was hired from a gentleman by the name of Thomas Williams.
History
Bangor 1876 also decided that the City of Bangor coat of arms be adopted as the official club crest. The choice of crest reflects the club’s commitment to serve the local community, and preserve its proud footballing heritage, whilst engaging with supporters from Bangor, the surrounding area, and further afield. The adoption of a blue and red colour scheme for the playing kit, with the home strip consisting of royal blue shirts with red trim, white shorts, and blue socks with red tops has historical connotations. The change strip is all red with blue trim.
Thanks to the partnership forged with Bangor University, The team currently plays its home matches on a 3G surface in the picturesque setting of the University’s Treborth Playing Fields, straddled between Thomas Telford’s Menai Suspension Bridge and Robert Stephenson’s Britannia Bridge, on the banks of the Menai Strait.
During its first season the Club boasted a 100% record, winning the last-ever Gwynedd League championship. Despite the season being curtailed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the team scored 115 goals conceding only nine. In the 2021-22 season, the Club played in the Premier Division of the North Wales Coast League (West). The Club once more set a number of goal scoring records scoring 139 and conceding 19.
At the end of the season, the Football Association of Wales' National League Board chose the Club to fill a vacancy at tier 3 level in the Welsh Football Pyramid, consequently the Club now plays in the Lock Stock Ardal League North West. In season 2022-2023, the Club finished runners up in the Lock Stock Ardal League North West to Denbigh Town. They went on to win 4-2 after extra time against Cefn Albion of the Lock Stock Ardal League North East in the Tier 3 Play Off Final to gain promotion to the Tier 2 JD Cymru North League for season 2023-2024
