Chairman’s Notes
Welcome to Central Park for this evening’s JD Cymru North League game against Prestatyn
I’d like to extend a warm Denbigh welcome to all the Prestatyn players, coaching team, Commi ee and supporters.
It’s been a frustra ng February for our first team with a lack of games. They’ve had a home game against Gresford called off for the third me, firstly because of a frozen pitch, then Storm Jocelyn’s winds and finally a waterlogged pitch. Then the week before last, they had a free weekend as it was the Welsh Cup where we are no longer in the compe on. Thankfully the game last Saturday against Guilsfield went ahead.
The upshot is that as of today we have ten games le this season, which is due to finish on 13th April, so it’s a busy schedule ahead.
As a Commi ee, we are so pleased with how the season has progressed. At the start of the season, we were aiming at a top half finish this season and we look to be on course for this. Dewi and his coaching team of Ma y, Bre and KP have to take credit for all the hard work they have put in to achieve this and they have seen the squad adapt extremely well to the higher standard of football in the Tier 2 JD Cymru League North.
We hope you as supporters are pleased with how the team have performed so far this season. We’ve had some cracking results and some great nights here at Central Park. Yes, there have been games were we have fallen short, but on the whole from where we were this me last season – third in the Lock Stock Ardal North West League , then we have to see the real progress that has been made by the team
Our new Changing Room Building Project is taking up a lot of my focus at the moment. Having obtained planning permission just before Christmas, we have now secured funding for 50% of the cost of the build. I am ac vely now approaching other ins tu ons throughout Wales who can help fund the rest of the project.
I have met the main building, electrical and plumbing contractors that we have selected and have put in place a plan for the way forward as to when the work can start and how the build will progress. We are aiming to start the work at the end of this season which will be early May by the me all our fixtures for all our teams will have been completed.
A word about our priceless volunteers. We are so indebted to our kitchen team of Jean, Jayne, Lesley, Ann & Rob who hardly see any of the games we play due to their being so busy serving food and drink. The kitchen provides us with valuable income for our finances as does the bar area where Paul, Dave and Gareth do some great work.
As I have men oned before, it is an exci ng me to be involved with the Club as we look to enhance our facili es and with all our Senior and Junior teams doing so well in their respec ve Leagues.
If you feel you have some me available to help the Club off the field in whatever form, please contact myself or Iwan who can give you more details as to the posts we have available.
In the mean me, let’s see our lads get the three points this a ernoon.
Enjoy the game.

Manager’s Notes
Welcome to Central Park for this evening’s Cymru North league game against Prestatyn. This game should have been played in early December, but a waterlogged pitch caused its cancella on. Let’s hope tonight’s game goes ahead as we’ve had enough of games ge ng called off due to poor weather condi ons.
Last Saturday we grabbed a late equaliser against Guilsfield thanks to Owen Davies great finish a er a superb ball into the box by KP to Paul Flem, who laid a great ball into young Owen’s path. In my view Guilsfield proved to be a be er team than their league posi on showed. Coming into the game they hadn’t won away since October and yet they had a host of chances and had good spells of possession in both halves of the game.
Josh Lock scored a brilliant goal for us to bring it to 1-1, and he has been a breath of fresh air to the squad since he joined us on loan last summer. I was delighted that TNS extended his loan agreement in January and he has made a valuable contribu on to the team with five league goals and a couple of assists. He has an ability to glide across the pitch and has such good close ball control.
This evening we will be missing Paul Fleming who is away and Nathan Brown who is suspended a er his red card last Saturday. They’ll be big losses as both have been key players in us a aining our sixth place posi on. Flem is a true captain, leading by example with his endeavour and grit and scoring some vital goals along with invaluable assists like last Saturday.
Nay is our top scorer with thirteen league goals this season and he has a keen eye for goal especially from dead ball situa ons. His ability to hit the net will be missed for the next three matches but it does give others the opportunity to step up to the star ng eleven.
In the last programme I men oned the youngsters who have joined us recently. However, like Josh, Nay and Flem, the rest of the squad have been outstanding throughout the season. Billy Holmes and Sion Jones are two local lads who just love playing for the Town. Billy has been excep onal in his le back posi on and to see him on one of his mazy runs really gets the crowd going. Sion has played in a variety of posi on whether it be defence or midfield and it is such an asset to have this ability to slot in anywhere and be comfortable in that posi on.
Ben Lockley and Dan Parry-Jones are two young defenders who have matured throughout the season. They have learnt so much at this level and whilst being much improved at the back, both can come up for set pieces and are o en on the score sheet. Behind them Aaron Jones has been in excellent form in goal. He’s missed the last couple of games with a broken thumb, and will miss out again this evening. However, he has made some brilliant stops to keep us in games and don’t forget he was my player of the season last year.
Keiron Roberts is such a good experienced player to have within the team. He’s Mr Dependable in that he is always available to put in some key stops and then put in the simple but easy ball to restart our forays. Every team needs a Keiron and he has put in some tremendous performances this season
Up front Ma hew Worrall has been doing what he enjoys – scoring . He’s notched up eleven goals this season despite having me off with a broken wrist at the start of the season. He’s a constant threat and defenders do not enjoy playing against him. His strength and pace enhance his game and we’re looking for more goals from him as the season goes into its final stages.
We beat Prestatyn3-0 back in November, but since then they have had a change of manager and squad. They are now on a run of two winning games as they look to move out of the relega on area. We want the three points and I’ll be emphasising the need for full concentra on throughout the game and applying plenty of pressure on their goal.
Enjoy the game

Denbigh Town v Prestatyn Town
Denbighshire Derby at Central Park
Denbigh Town are back at Central Park once again this Tuesday with a mouth-watering Denbighshire Derby against Prestatyn Town.
Two sides still with plenty to play for, it’s all set up to be an intriguing match-up.
Form
Denbigh come into the game on the back of late drama in LL16 on Saturday. Guilsfield were the visitors and it was the mid-Walians who took the lead before Josh Lock levelled. After a second half strike it took Town until the 94th minute where Owen Davies was again the hero, lashing home to split the points. It came after Town snatched all three points in the 90th minute, again via Davies, in a trip to Buckley two weeks previous. Denbigh are now unbeaten in four league matches.
Prestatyn currently find themselves battling it out in the lower reaches of the table but have given their survival hopes a huge boost with two wins on the spin against dropzone rivals. On Friday they faced Chirk at Bastion Gardens where despite going down to 10-men were able to grind out a 2-1 win. They took Chirk on a week previous running out 3-0 winners at Holyhead Road.
Head-to-Head
Our last match with the Seasiders came in November where goals from Ryan Kershaw and Matthew Worrall (brace) put Prestatyn to the sword. This will be Prestatyn’s first game at Central Park since 2018, that time saw Denbigh this time take a 2-1 home win in September 2018.
The first recorded meeting of Denbigh facing a Prestatyn side came in September 1905 in the North Wales Coast Junior League Division Two, with the two teams playing out a 3-3 draw at Denbigh’s old home ground, Graig Road. The first trip to Prestatyn came a month later in a North Wales Junior Cup replay after an initial draw, which the home side won 3-2. Our first league match at Prestatyn came on the final day of the campaign in March 1906, drawing 1-1.
The club’s wouldn’t meet again formally until the late 1940s in the Dyserth League and wouldn’t regularly clash until 1983/84 in the Clwyd Premier. Denbigh beat the Seasiders to the Welsh Alliance title in 1995/96 and our first meeting in the Cymru Alliance/North came in 2007, the first of just eight matches at this level between the two sides.
Stat Pack
Tom Weir, who signed for Prestatyn in Janury, could be the second player to play both for and against Denbigh Town this season.
Denbigh are looking for their first Denbighshire Derby league double over Prestatyn since 2002/03.
Denbigh are looking to go unbeaten in five league games for the second time this season.
A win or draw would see Denbigh move up to 5th in the JD Cymru North.
A draw on Tuesday night would see Denbigh record back-to-back draws for the first time in over seven years. Those games in January 2016 came away at Caernarfon and Conwy both ending 2-2. A third of Denbigh’s draws in the last ten years have ended by the same scoreline.

You can keep up to date with all the action via the club’s social media channels including live text commentary via our X page (FKA Twitter) page and match report on the club website post-match. For live updates as they happen follow Denbigh Town on the Cymru
REPORT | Denbigh Town 2-2 Guilsfield
Town leave it late, again!
10-man Denbigh Town left it late for the second successive match as Owen Davies again stepped up to secure at least a point.
Town, who had Nathan Brown sent off in the second half, trailed 2-1 after Jamie Hyne and Iwan Matthews’ goals surrounded that of Josh Lock.
But with seconds remaining and Denbigh staring at defeat, Davies lashed the ball home in stoppage time to secure just the second draw for Denbigh in 16 months.
Dewi Llion named one change to the side that beat Buckley two weeks ago as Kyle Cooper made his first start for Town, replacing Sion Jones. Meanwhile Jimmy McHarrie kept his place in goal for the injured Aaron Jones.
The opening ten minutes would pass by with little incident before bursting to life when Guilsfield came close via Williams, who somehow put the ball over the bar from just yards out from a Jake Cook cross.
Denbigh reponsded within a minute when Matthew Worrall ran through and lifted the ball over the keeper but just wide of the mark. He came even closer seconds later when Lock ran through the middle and struck, his effort deflected to Worrall who volleyed the ball against the post.
This began a flirtatious afternoon with the woodwork which in total was clattered four times, as Hyne cut in from the right and his low shot beat McHarrie but nailed the post. After both goalkeepers made smart saves Town had a trio of corners, with Guilsfield defending resolutely. The last of the trilogy was swept in by Brown and curled towards goal before rattling the crossbar on 24 minutes.
The scoring was opened on 32 minutes when a mistake from Dion Gibbins handed the ball to Hyne who ran through and slotted past McHarrie to give the visitors the lead.
Town pressed for a leveller in the final ten minutes of the half when Lock’s free-kick was pushed out by the keeper and Paul Fleming put the rebound in the side netting. Guilsfield should have doubled the lead on 41 minutes when Cooper allowed the ball over the top to find Hyne who attempted to round the keeper, but McHarrie made a superb stop.
Two minutes before the break Guilsfield hit the post again with an effort from the left, whilst Denbigh were denied when Lock forced the keeper into a save from the right before Gibbins’ volley was also handled well.
Town knew they had to improve in the second half and within eight minutes they drew parity. Worrall was superb down the left and fed the ball in to Fleming, he nudged it on to Lock who turned excellently and thumped the ball into the top corner.
Guilsfield responded well and four minutes later found the post for the third time, Matthews’ volley thumped the post before Dan Parry-Jones make a brilliant block to deny the follow-up.
The game was anyone’s and some may have felt it would take a moment of brilliance to win it, and it almost came on the hour mark when Gibbins took flight from 40-yards that flew just over the bar.
With 67 minutes played the visitors regained the advantage when Matthews, Guilsfield’s top marksman this season, grabbed his 10th of the campaign when running through and sliding it home.
Six minutes later it went from bad to worse as Brown was sent off for allegedly catching an opponent with a flailing elbow. Despite this though, Town continued to put the pressure on and flirted with the visitors’ goal.
Kristian Pierce came on in stoppage time as he continues his return to full fitness, and it proved to be a masterstroke. The 30-year-old picked it up on the left after 93 minutes and crossed, it found Fleming who brought it down before another substitute, Owen Davies, smashed the ball home.
It extends Denbigh’s unbeaten run in the JD Cymru North to four games ahead of Tuesday night’s Denbighshire Derby with Prestatyn Town at Central Park.
Denbigh Town: McHarrie, Lockley, Parry-Jones, Cooper, Holmes, Roberts, Gibbins, Lock, Brown, Fleming, Worrall
Subs: Cooke, S.Jones, Hansen, Pierce, Davies

REPORT | Denbigh Town Ladies 2-1 Kinmel Bay Ladies More Late Drama at Central Park
In a weekend of late drama Denbigh Town Ladies snatched victory in stoppage time to move up to 3rd in the NWWFL East.
Ceri Purvis’ late strike complimented Sophie Bancroft’s incredible effort to reverse the scoring after the visitors’ first-half lead.
It now draws Ellen Lawson’s side to within a point of Kinmel Bay in second and leapfrogs them over Northop Hall into third.
Lawson named one change as Shannon Jones returned for the unavailable Carla Rizzi as Town looked to end a run of defeats.
Kinmel Bay have been in good form despite losing last time out at home to leaders Flint, losing just once in their last eight games. It was the visitors who first tested a goalkeeper when Lucy Perry ran through before drawing a save before rebounding the ball over the bar from close range.
Denbigh’s first sight came after 13 minutes when a corner was partially cleared to Mali Thomas on the edge of the box but her effort was well dealt with.
After 25 minutes the deadlock was broken. A superb cross from the right was met by Chloe Scanlan who finished well past the goalkeeper.
Kinmel Bay were on top in the first half but couldn’t muster a second as they went into the break ahead.
Half-Time: Denbigh Town Ladies 0-1 Kinmel Bay Ladies
Denbigh applied pressure in the second half but in reality the game was lacking any real clear cut chances and both goalkeepers were kept relatively quiet.
However, with eighteen minutes to play it sprang back to life via substitute Bancroft. Having joined the action on 69 minutes it took her just three minutes to make an impact. Her corner returned to her on the left of the box before thumping the ball into the inside of the side netting to draw parity.
Suddenly Town looked dangerous, with Lowri Claybrook coming close with a volley five minutes before time that flashed just wide.
Deep into stoppage time the goal finally came. Purvis was played through and oneon-one she kept her composure to slot the ball home and hand a much-needed three points, and first win in just over a month.
Denbigh are next in action on Sunday when making the trip to Berriew.
Denbigh Town Ladies: Young, Duff, Jones, Thomas, C.Morris, James-Owen, Claybrook, Davies, E.Morris, Purvis, Kell
Subs: Cooper, L.Morris, Bancroft

Brief History
Denbigh Town Football Club was formed in 1880 and has remained one of the most popular and highly respected Clubs in North Wales ever since. One of the Club’s finest achievements came in 1924 when they won both the Welsh Amateur Cup and the North Wales Coast Amateur Cup.
A number of minor successes ensued in the subsequent decades until the Club hit a purple patch in the 1970s when they won the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Division One Championship four times and the League Cup on five occasions. Town also landed the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1970 and the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1972. The manager through most of this golden period was John Trevor Roberts who remains one of Denbigh Town’s most legendary figures.
After the Club left the Wrexham Area League at the turn of the 1980s and joined the Clwyd League many trophy less years followed. The sleeping giant did not awaken until the 1991/1992 season when Liverpudlian duo Bill Dawson and Rook Cook-Hannah took over the reins at the Club.
In their first season the Club won promotion to the Premier Division, but the biggest highlight was an unforgettable 1-0 North Wales Challenge Cup Victory over the 4th placed HFS Loans League semiprofessionals of Caernarfon Town before an ecstatic crowd at Central Park.
After two seasons in the Clwyd Premier, the Club was promoted to the Fitlock Welsh Alliance League in 1994/95. After finishing 4th in their first season Denbigh Town followed up in style by landing the League Championship and Cookson Cup double, the Club’s finest achievement for almost 20 years. The Club joined the Cymru Alliance in 1996/97 and enjoyed several good seasons at that level.
Denbigh joined the Welsh Alliance Leagie for 2002/2003 and finished 3rd, reached the semi-final of the Barritt Cup and won the Alves Cup with Roy Cook-Hannah at the helm. Cook- Hannah resigned in December 2003 and Clwyd Williams & Nick Hailes were installed as joint-managers. The team finished the season in 12th position.
In May 2004 Tim Dyer was appointed manager and in 2005/2006 he guided the team to the Barritt Cup and Cookson Cup double, runners up in the Welsh Alliance League and also finalists in the North Wales Coast FA Challenge Cup. The Club also won the Welsh Alliance Fair Play League for 2005/2006 & 2006/2007. In 2007 Denbigh Town were crowned Welsh Alliance League Champions and Cookson Cup winners.
After Tim Dyer stepped down at the end of the 2008/2009 season Steve Jones was appointed manager with Dean Martin as his assistant. Under the new regime the team finished 10th in the 2009/2010 Cymru Alliance League. Unfortunately, due to the Welsh Premier Super 12, six clubs were relegated from the Welsh Premier and the 3 feeder leagues all promoted a club to the Cymru Alliance. This meant only the top 7 survived in the Cymru Alliance and so Denbigh Town were relegated to the Welsh Alliance League. Jones and his assistant Martin resigned in May 2010.
John James and Andy Lewis were appointed manager and coach for the 2010/2011 season.
Despite relegation the Club started ground development with hard standing area placed all around the perimeter of the ground and floodlights were installed in April 2012.
In 2012/2013 ex-player and captain Richard Williams- Cooke was appointed manager. In his first season Cookie took the club to runners up position in the Welsh Alliance League. The following season the Club won the league, remaining unbeaten throughout the whole league campaign and also won the Mawddach Cup. The Club were promoted to the Cymru Alliance – the Tier 2 level of Welsh football
Cookie resigned in June 2014 due to work and family commitments. A joint management team of Dave Taylor and Terry Ingram were appointed in his place, but they parted company with club a few months later. In September 2014 the Club appointed Elfed Lloyd and 1st team Captain Max Peate as caretaker managers for the rest of that season.
Gareth Thomas (Perry) was appointed manager on 21st May 2015, and he led the Club to 3rd position in the Cymru Alliance in season 2015/2016. In the same season Perry also took the Club to the Word Cup Final losing 2-0 to treble winners The New Saints (TNS).
However, in November 2016 the Club parted company with Perry and Eddie Maurice Jones was appointed manager
Maurice-Jones took the Club to its highest ever finish in the Cymru Alliance – that of 2nd in the season 2017/2018. However, at the end of that season Maurice-Jones moved to become manager of Rhyl and many of the players followed him.
New joint managers Dewi Llion Jones & Matty Jones had the task of forming a team with new players with only a few weeks left before the start of the season. Despite a valiant effort by the managers and their new team the Club fell into the relegation zone on the last day of the season 2018/2019 and were relegated to the Welsh Alliance.
Matty Jones left the joint managership role in April 2019 and Dewi Llion Jones was appointed sole manager for the season 2019/2020. He appointed former Town player Owain Roberts as his coach. A strong season followed but the Covid 19 pandemic meant the season was cut short and Denbigh were appointed runners up in the league to Holyhead Hotspurs.
The Welsh Alliance League finished in 2019/2020 and Denbigh Town were placed in the new Lock Stock Ardal North West League for the season 2021/22.
The club narrowly missed out on the promotion spots in the season 2021/2022 finishing third.
History
Based in the seaside resort of Prestatyn in the Welsh county of Denbighshire, Prestatyn Town Football Club has been in existence since 1910.
Their major success in recent years came in 2013 when they beat Bangor City 3-1 after extra-time in the Welsh Cup. That victory meant that the were eligible to enter the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League. Having lost the first-leg of the Europa League Second Qualifying Round 2-1 to Liepājas Metalurgs in Wales, Prestatyn Town then travelled to Latvia and won 2-1 out there, taking the game to extra-time and, eventually, penalties.
They won the penalty shoot-out 4-3, progressing to the Third Qualifying Round where they took on Hrvatski Nogometni Klub Rijeka. Sadly that was where the dream ended, losing the home tie 3-0 and the away tie 5-0, going out 8-0 on aggregate and missing out on the opportunity to play in the Europa League group stage.
An undeveloped field on Marine Road in Prestatyn could be called the club’s first ‘ground’, with records suggesting that games were played there as long ago as the 1890s. After that they moved from field to field, football pitch to football pitch. There is some debate as to whether any of the sides that played those games are linked to the modern day Prestatyn Football Club, with a number of them folding after only a couple of seasons in existence.
The club won the North Wales Coast FA Junior Cup in the 1928-1929 season, the first piece of silverware of its existence. Back then the manager was a man called Sam Bennett, but managing wasn’t all he did. He was also the head of the football club’s committee, trainer of the players and also wrote match reports, which he gave to the local newspapers. He was even known to act as the linesman for games on more than a few occasions!
During the 1940s the club played under the name of Chandypore FC, but this didn’t last long. With the exception of a stint playing with the sponsored name of Prestatyn Town Nova in 1990, they have remained simply Prestatyn Town Football Club for the majority of their years of playing football.
In 1971-1972 season when they won the Dyserth Area League. Having had the taste for success, they didn’t want to relent and won the same thing in the 1972-1973 and 1973-1974 seasons. At that point the Dyserth Area League was merged together with the Halkyn Mountain League to create the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy Football League, otherwise known as the Clwyd Premier League.
They did a league and cup double in 1974-1975, winning their division and the Clwyd Premier Cup. The following year they repeated the trick, though that was their last silverware until the Club until they won the Clwyd Premier Cup again in 1982.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s The Seasiders won occasional trophies to keep the fans interested, such as the Clwyd President’s Cup in 1984 and the REM Jones Cup in 1995. Yet ahead of the 1998-1999 season it seemed as it disaster was going to cause trouble in Prestatyn. There was a split within the club that saw Prestatyn Town resign from the Welsh Alliance and a new club, Prestatyn Nova, forming. If people had been expecting Town to fall apart they were in for a shock; The Seasiders went on to win a Clwyd League, Premier Cup and President’s Cup treble!
History
As the 2013–14 season began, there were multiple players leaving the club to pastures new and as a result, the performance of the club for the next couple of years started to deteriorate, but at the end of the season they survived relegation with an 11th-place finish. In the 2014–15 season the club were ultimately relegated with a 12th-place finish and no mathematical chance of surviving, their relegation was confirmed as Llandudno were promoted from the Cymru Alliance, ending a seven-year stint in Wales's top division.
The 2016–17 season saw the club gain promotion back to the Welsh Premier League. The club's return to the top tier did not however go as planned with the team struggling to pick up results after November. Neil Gibson departed mid-season to take up a coaching role with Connah's Quay Nomads, and caretaker manager Gareth Wilson was unable to help the club avoid relegation.
The summer of 2018 began in crisis. A mass exodus of the playing staff due to off-the-field issues saw the club not only in need of a manager, but an entire squad of players. In stepped the management duo of Leon Field and Ryan Turner from lower league side Kinmel Bay. The duo had their work cut out, and their first action was to promote a number of the club's youth prospects from Prestatyn's title-winning reserve side. A number of promising signings followed. Dave Fuller returned as director of football, and following a successful pre-seasonformer captain Dave Hayes came out of retirement to help steady things on the field. Alex Jones was named club captain, and former striker Ian Griffiths returned to bring experience and goals.
Long-serving chairman Chris Tipping sold the club to an investment consortium two months into the2018–19 season, and a change in management followed as Neil Gibson returned to manage the club in October - with Ryan Turner assuming the role of assistant manager. Results in the league steadily improved thanks to Gibson's influence helping secure the return of a few key players from the last title-winning squad. A run of six games unbeaten with five wins - including a Boxing Day demolishing of fierce rivals Rhyl FC - all but secured their Cymru Alliance status, with the club eyeing a promotion push the following season.
The 2019–20 season saw the Cymru Alliance rebranded as the Cymru North (along with the WPL as the Cymru Premier in a mass rebrand) and this also saw the club record their best season in the Cymru North with 3 separate 7-0 wins against Bangor City, Llanfair United and away at Conwy Borough. Unfortunately the season was cut short in March due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 Worldwide Pandemic (which later stopped that season's Welsh Cup which the club had progressed to a semi final game against The New Saints), despite Prestatyn Town winning the Cymru North on the PPG (Points-Per-Game) System implemented by the FAW across the Welsh football pyramid, The Club was not granted promotion due to their TV Gantry not being up to FAW standards. As a result, Flint Town United took their spot in the Cymru Premier for the 2020–21 season with the club taking on another season in the Cymru North as league champions.
During the off-season, Neal Colakoglu that led the consortium to buy club from Tipping, announced he was selling the club to investor Jamie Welsh. Changes were made as a result in the board with the additions of Leigh Williams as the club's CEO (who would later step down) and Mike Mainwaring as the Club Secretary.
At the start of 2024 James Benbow became the new owner of the Club and shortly after Matty Roberts was appointed manager of the team
