Chapter History Chartered August 1, 1939 in Charlotte, NC, the Beta Nu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has served as a major force in the community since its inception. The founding members of Beta Nu Lambda Chapter were: Mr. Clifton Blake Mr. Charles Gilliard Mr. Gedson Ladson Dr. W.R. Laney

Mr. Louis E. Levi Dr. Eugene Potts Dr. Thomas Watkins Dr. AJ Williams

These men began a legacy of service that we aspire to maintain in our daily dealings with the community. We are charged to be leaders in our community and actively engage the citizens of Charlotte, NC. We accomplish this through a number of our signature programs. Alpha Academy, targeted to 9th-11th graders, it seeks to provide educational opportunities, self improvement, and the essentials of being a gentleman. Our Beautillion program contains similar programming as Alpha Academy, but is targeted toward high school seniors. The chapter also presents Project Alpha annually, a partnership with the march of Dimes. Project Alpha is designed to provide education, motivation, and skill-building on issues of responsibility, relatinships, teen pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases. Salutations GREETINGS, On behalf of the Brothers of the Beta Nu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., I would like to thank you for your support of the 2020-2021 Beautillion Program. I encourage you to reflect on the tremendous accomplishments of this outstanding group of young men. They have shown themselves to be scholars and community servants that society says is not prevalent with our young Black men. This program is the culmination of months of hard work and learning opportunities for the Beaus. As we prepare to send them off to start the next phase of their lives, I would like to thank each of these young men for their efforts this year and express to them how proud we are of them. As the Beautillion program continues to expand, I am elated by what I see and hear from these talented young men. I have no doubt that each of them will go on to make lasting impacts on society and I look forward to watching them accomplish their goals. To the parents, I thank you for what you have instilled in these young men and I say job well done. I also thank you for entrusting your sons with us for the past 9 months. A very special thank you to Brother Daryl E. Rice for leading this program and finding new and innovative ways to manage this monumental task. Let me also thank the committee of brothers and volunteers for your efforts in making this years’ Beautillion program a success. Lastly, I would like to say thank you to the Brothers of Beta Nu Lambda for your support of this program and the mission of our dear Fraternity.

Respectfully Submitted,

Jerel Harvey

Beautillion Team Peace & blessings,

Thank you for your support of the 2020-2021 B.E.A.M. Foundation’s Beautillion Program and its souvenir journal. This journal is a commemoration of the achievements of seven of Charlotte area’s finest young men. Our Beautillion program represents the culmination of ten months of workshops, retreats, community service, and personal development for our Beaus. Your support allows our work to continue for future generations. It has been our pleasure to work not only with these young men, but with the team of brothers serving on the committee and as mentors. We believe it is imperative for African-American young men to know that their community stands with them as they transition from high school to college, and from boyhood to manhood. It is often this transition that goes unnoticed in a young man’s life. The Beautillion program seeks not only to prepare young men for this transition, but to also honor their often-unnoticed achievements. One of the guiding precepts of Alpha Phi Alpha, “school for the better making of men,” is the applicable precept for these fine young men. Our Beautillion is one way we honor that commitment. Once again, thank you for your support of these young men and the B.E.A.M. Foundation. We look forward to seeing you at our future events. Sincerely,
