_What is it about?
_Rindermarkthalle The “Rindermarkthalle” in Hamburg - hereinafter referred to as the Old Cattle Market Hall - as a vacant industrial building leads to heated discussions in the city today. The Old Cattle Market Hall stands on the Neuer Kamp in Hamburg-St. Pauli and was built in 1951, in close proximity to Millerntorstadion, the Heiligengeistfeld, the bunker and the Subway station “Feldstraße”. End of May 2010 ended the supermarket sale of REAL in the hall, rented from the city and returned in December 2010 to the city of Hamburg. The property is managed by the city‘s own Sprinkenhof AG. Nowadays the building includes a mosque upstairs. The rest of the building is currently empty. The surrounding area is used as a parking lot. The hall and the surrounding area will be scheduled again. Overall, it‘s about 42 000 square meters at one of the „best locations“ in the district and the whole city as well! The Old Cattle Market Hall could be put under protection as an industrial monument memorial hall because of its special structure. It covers an area of 14.200 square meters. Inside, the hall has a clear height of 9m. The roof structure is supported by four large steel columns. This original structure of the architecturally valuable shed roof is/was being used as a parking deck for the supermarket. The St. Pauli district and the adjacent neighborhood Sternschanze has an extremely high degree of complexity and density in all urban areas, whether it‘s urban planning, urban sociology, psychology or politics, the spatial functions, the ecology and economy. In the current question what should be done with the location and the object Old Cattle Market Hall - it‘s a search for useful perspectives to the object, area, population and politics as well - we have to see that this building requires a complex plan of action for the site and its environment. The hall as the sole object itself can be planned well and remodel for appropriate uses. However, the Old Cattle Market Hall and its important location are to be planned necessarily in the urban planning context. As a transformation to the hall also means a transformation of the surrounding neighborhood!
