The Positive Shift

Mindshift - What You Need to Succeed What does it take to push yourself over your limits? To be successful, you must believe in yourself. It’s a process known as “Mindshift.” It’s about trusting your intuition and thinking that you can, and that nothing is impossible if you’re ready to face the next opportunity with the correct mental preparation. It’s a process and takes practice. If you can think negatively all the time, you can replace it and think positively all the time. It’s a journey of self-awareness and conditioning your mind to behave in the manner you desire. The next crucial step is to learn; to overcome the hurdles by putting in a tiny amount of effort, every day. Promise yourself that you can accomplish it, not for others, not for fame, power, or status, but because you have a dream that you awake in the mornings thinking of, keeps you awake at night, and motivates you to take another step forward.

Uncertainties are to be expected. They are, in reality, an indication that you are on the correct route. When you chart new territory, you’re uncomfortable because you’re growing and it’s somewhere you’ve never been before. You can’t always look to the left, right, up, and down for external confirmation of your decisions. Remember, if you don’t like what you are doing or how things are going, change it. You are in control of your success, no one else is. I would add that if you feel you can, you’re already on your way, and to practice EVERY DAY. Anything you imagine in your mind and heart is achievable if you are prepared to put forth the effort. Until then, the confidence you need, must come from within. Believe in YOUSELF! ~ Stacie René

NOT POLITICALLY CORRECT

My Fellow Patriots and Riders, Well I did it; I will be on the Ballot in August running for Michigan House in the new 99th District. My biggest opponent is a State Trooper, of course he has a perfect record and he was on all the committee’s and there’s nothing wrong with that. He also has a Trump endorsement and to that I say I’m sorry. The only endorsement I am looking for is from the people. The Trump endorsement right now in Michigan does not really mean anything you can buy one from the dirty GOP. Even though I like Trump and would like to see him in office again I have not met him, talked to him or had any interaction with him and President Trump can’t vote for me or anyone else in Michigan. I am asking for the people’s vote because they are who I will be working for. I am a very big supporter of the second amendment and will continue to do so. Our Education system is a shamble Common Core must go along with CRT. The mental health system in this state is severely lacking and now that we are finding more and more cities with lead pipes, it’s getting worse just like our PFAS problem in Oscoda. The water contamination has gone from Wurtsmith AFB to Lake Huron. The residents have been asking and fighting for the last 14 years to get the DOD to clean up their own mess and still nothing! I have noticed that ABATE, MCOC and MRF are supporting other candidates. I do hope they support me, because I actually ride (over 50 years). The last insurance laws that were passed put the screws to us riders and yes that NEEDS to change. I would also like to see anti-profiling laws here in Michigan. We need to think down the road, not only as we ride, but what are we going to leave our children and grandchildren. “You Get What You Pay For” Like our road repairs the state generally uses the lowest bidder and within a few years that same road has to be repaired. It’s time we set new higher standards for what we want and need and STOP using the “Lowest Bidder”. As for holding office nobody’s perfect and we all make mistakes, but in my 63 years I have a more diversified background to draw from than any other candidate. So my life experience gives me the ability to understand what the voter’s really want, because I can relate to their needs. “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy”. -Dr. Martin Luther King As always be Safe and God Bless

As Told By

THE IRON COWBOY As we head into July we find ourselves hitting the heart of the summer riding season. People are hitting the road on their bikes, the lakes with their boats, and the trails with their ATV’s and SxS’s. And for us, we are hitting the road with our event trailers for our first hosted events of the season in Michigan.

IRON & INK BIKE NIGHT TATTOO PARTY ARSENAL HARLEY-DAVIDSON Wednesday, July 6th 5p-8p

While we promote, cover, and even help out with countless rides, rallies, and other events all year – these ones represent the crew hosting our signature events with our partners. On Wednesday, July 6th, we will head to ARSENAL HARLEYDAVIDSON in Waterford for the IRON & INK BIKE NIGHT TATTOO PARTY! The Iron & Ink Tattoo Parties are fun events where people have a chance to show off their tattoos and share a little about their meaning and experience – if they want to. For those without tattoos or thinking of getting one, it’s a chance to see the work of artists from throughout the area and see what their clients think. In many cases, the actual artists are on hand as well to talk about their work and maybe hear your ideas about your next piece. And then, there’s an informal voting process where people vote for their favorite pieces in different categories such as Black and Gray, Color, Back, and even Military or Patriotic Tattoos. Trophies and awards are also given out for BEST PIECE and BEST OVERALL CANVAS. And if the artists are on site, they also can win trophies when their clients do! It’s all really informal and laid back – and folks just have a great time. There’s also live music from KICKIN’ ROCKS, food trucks, and even ice cold beverages served. There are RAFFLES and DOOR PRIZES as well! You can even win $500 just for voting for your favorite tattoos! For more information visit our facebook page – www.Facebook.com/ThunderRoadsMichigan. You can register in advance at www.ThunderRoadsMichigan.com – and get a FREE Iron & Ink T-Shirt if you’re one of the first 30 to do so! If you’re an artist or have a studio – we’d invite you to come out and join the party. If you come out with the magazine, we can get you set up and even arrange that all your clients are sponsored – FREE OF CHARGE! For more information on this, just email us at Info@ReasonsToRide.com

ReasonsToRide.com Championship Bike Show Series Then we head up 75 to Vehicle City Harley-Davidson for our first Michigan stop on the ReasonsToRide.com Championship Bike Show Series. This is an informal ride in Bike Show that welcomes all bikes, all makes, and all models. This isn’t a museum like showing of trailer queens, this is a chance for folks to show off their rides or garage projects. We want to see them all! We will be awarding TROPHIES and PLACARDS to the bikes getting the most votes from those attending and our designated judges. There will be music, food, and beverages for everyone. We encourage everyone to register in advance for the Bike Show as well. You can reserve your space, get a discount, and even get a FREE T-Shirt as well! How cool is that?! Both events are fund raisers for our WARRIOR FUND, through which we help support local riding organizations and events aimed at making a difference in the community. 6

Follow us on Facebook at THUNDER ROADS MICHIGAN for updates, photos, and more - updated DAILY. www.facebook.com/ThunderRoadsMichigan KUDOS to SHIELDED SOULS: Making a difference in the WAR on Trafficking Shielded Souls LE/MC is a non-profit riding organization that looks to provide support to veterans and local law enforcement. With chapters across Michigan, they have looked for ways to make a difference as an organization. In looking into how to fight child abuse and trafficking as effectively as possible, Craig Bogart, Shielded Souls President, said they quickly realized that funding a K-9 unit specializing in finding electronic devices was their best course of action. “The best way we could find that we could help was to purchase one of these dogs and place him,” Bogart said. “Shielded Souls has a lot of members, but if we worked every day, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, we couldn’t do the amount of good that this dog could do with one bust.” Through a variety of events and fund raising efforts, they raised over $12,000 to cover the cost of a dog and training. They identified the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department for not only receiving the dog but to assume the ongoing costs such as a specialized vehicle, equipment, and of course an Officer – or in this case, a Deputy – to partner with the dog. So, on May 27th Deputy James Leidel of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department completed his training with STRETCH – an American yellow Labrador. It was a 12 week training program for Stretch – with Leidel coming in for the final two weeks. OFFICIAL RELEASE: From Monroe County Sherrif Troy Goodnough Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough announces the addition of Stretch and his handler, Deputy James Liedel to the Sheriff’s Office K-9 Team. Stretch is an American yellow Labrador Retriever born on July 15, 2020. Stretch is considered a Red Labrador as his color is dark. Stretch is certified in electronic device detection, which includes sim cards, SD cards, flash drives, computers, tablets, hard drives and cell phones. Electronic devices are a main source of information related to human trafficking investigations. With that being said, Stretch will be used in a variety of law enforcement related activities including being a member of the Sheriff’s Office VIPER Task force and utilized in all human trafficking related investigations. Stretch is the third certified electronic detection canine in the state of Michigan. The other two canines belong to the Michigan State Police in Lansing. The services of Stretch and Deputy Liedel will be made available to all law enforcement agencies in the State of Michigan upon request. The Sheriff would like to thank the Shielded Souls Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club for their generous donation. The donation covered the purchase of Stretch and all the costs related to his training at the Todd Jordan K-9 Academy in Indiana. Deputy Liedel participated in a highly intensive two-week handler course at the end of the 12week academy with Stretch. Stretch was released to the Sheriff’s Office following him and Deputy Liedel’s certification on May 27, 2022. The Shielded Souls named Stretch after WWW.THUNDERROADSMICHIGAN.COM

a distinguished fallen member of their club who was one of the driving forces behind the fundraising event to support the canine. This electronic device canine would not have been a reality absent their significant donation. Members of the Shielded Souls recently met at the Sheriff’s Office for a meet, greet, and photograph with Stretch. 7 THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MICHIGAN

RE ADER’S RIDES Readers Rides- Ron Midland, MI 1948 Indian Chief- 74 cubic inch (1200cc) 3 speed transmission. This was a 3 year restoration project. I was the fourth owner, which were all from Michigan. I did most of the mechanical work myself. The paint was done by Denny Getgood. I’m 61 yrs old and have been retired now for 5 years, after 33 yrs of employment. I really enjoy tinkering with bikes. One picture is what the Indian looked like when I purchased it. It is a totally different ride than the newer bikes. It has a left foot clutch, right hand shift, left hand throttle and a right hand spark advance. There are a lot of things going on just to get down the road…after you kick started it!

VETERANS CORNER Happy 4th of July Happy 4th of July all my Veteran riders, I know that this month if you are not aware we are doing the ground breaking ceremony in D.C, for the National Desert Storm War Memorial on 14th of July. Many of us will be riding into D.C. - (I am a Desert Shield/Storm & Iraq/Afghanistan Veteran). I am proud to have served my country and would do it again. So, I would like to enlighten some of the Women Veteran’s and Desert Storm Memorial in my future articles along with things that can help all our Veteran’s here in Michigan and hopefully everywhere in the United States. There are several resources that can help out our veteran’s here in Michigan one of them is: Stand Downs Stand Downs are typically one- to three-day events providing supplies and services to homeless Veterans, such as food, shelter, clothing, health screenings and VA Social Security benefits counseling. Veterans can also receive referrals to other assistance such as health care, housing solutions, employment, substance use treatment and mental health counseling. They are collaborative events, coordinated between local VA Medical Centers, other government agencies and community-based homeless service providers. Below are upcoming Stand Downs. New events are added regularly, so check this page often for updates. To add upcoming Stand Downs not listed below, please submit a notice of proposed event form to the VA Homeless Coordinator or VA Stand Down point of contact (POC) at your local VA Medical Center. New Veteran Resource Service for Michigan Veterans The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency is hard at work connecting those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces with the benefits they have earned. The MVAA is here to help veterans navigate the challenges of getting connected to federal, state, and local veteran services, no matter how they come in contact with the State of Michigan. The Veteran Resource Service Center is helping veterans and their families retrieve their military documents, navigate veteran benefit programs and find services to assist in their communities. While making these connections seems simple, it is often impossible to navigate the system alone. Many women who served are not aware of their eligibility and have not applied for the money set aside for pensions, disability benefits, health care, education, spousal support, and burial. Visit http://www. michiganveterans.com/ or call 1-800-MICH-VET (800-6424838) to find out more.Forgotten Eagles of Michigan http:// forgotteneagles.org/

on any given day? Between 560 to 646 are women veterans. The help is there it’s getting the veterans the help. The problem is most vets don’t trust the government, or VA. So how can we change that? That is a good question? How do we get our veterans the help they need? Well first off if you know a vet that in trouble and needs help talk to them and give them this info; use this link http://vafvets.org/resources-vetera/links/ it will give you a list of help for veterans. Veterans Crisis Line The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans Health Administration (VHA) has established a national Veterans Crisis Line to ensure that Veterans in emotional crisis have free, 24/7 access to trained counselors. To operate the hotline, the VA partnered with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Veterans, family members and friends can call the lifeline number, 800-273TALK (8255) and press “1” to be routed to the hotline and speak to a counselor about any issue that is creating a crisis situation in his or her life. State Hunting and Fishing Eligibility: Michigan provides for eligible resident disabled Veterans and former prisoners of war to receive a fishing license, hunting license, fur taker permit, deer permit, wild turkey permit, wetlands habitat stamp or any combination of these licenses free of charge. More information can be found at https:// militaryhuntingandfishing.com/michigan/ (Part 2 of this article will appear in the August Issue of Thunder Roads Michigan)

THE THE MOTORCYCLE MOTORCYCLE LAWYER LAWYER ON ON THE THE LAW LAW WRECK CAUSED BY NEGLIGENT USE OF "TAR SNAKE" MATERIAL Motorcycle season is also road repair season. Unfortunately, every year we get many calls regarding motorcycle wrecks that involve road defects within road construction zones.

I think most motorcyclists have heard of “Tar Snakes.” These are the black rubbery and squiggly lines in the roadway when road construction crews fill cracks.

You Can Help! If anyone works in the industry and can point to additional product guidelines that state, This is not a proper use of crack filler material, please contact us.

The crack filling material has a rubber base. The product is heated to a liquid form and then poured into roadway cracks. The rubbery aspect of the product is important because when water gets into a crack and freezes it is important that the product can expand. Literature that I have read typically states that crack filling material is only supposed to be used on cracks no more than 3 inches wide. I am presently representing a motorcyclist who went down and was injured because this crackfilling material was used to fill the rumble strips on the shoulder of the road. The construction crew shifted the lane halfway on the shoulder which put rumble strips in the middle of the temporary construction traffic lane. Below, you can see the actual tar snake in question.

It is my position that this product should not have been used in this situation. The length and width of the rumble strips exceeded the safe 3” best practice, and the product was used in a curve, which is especially dangerous. In every construction road defect case, I point to the Standard Specifications of Construction and The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, which states that road construction crews must make construction zones safe for all traffic, INCLUDING motorcycles. I always make the defendants admit their awareness of the latter.

Road construction crews have a responsibility to follow regulations thoroughly. 14

I also explained the case in a recent Facebook LIVE video for Ask the Motorcycle Lawyer (at the 5:30 mark) and show the photographs of the hazard they created. This Tar Snake case is just one of the interesting cases I am working on. When you join my Facebook group, Ask the Motorcycle Lawyer, l not only can you learn about more cases like this that you cannot see anywhere else but also, you join a supportive community of fellow bikers, and you will get the first crack at free tickets to the Tigers (two rows back from home plate), and exclusive access to ask me, The Motorcycle Lawyer, any burning legal, insurance, and other questions. Biker Preacher’s Corner Hello, my brothers and sisters! I pray you’re having an excellent riding season so far! I know for me I’m gearing up for a big bike trip with some of my brothers from VBCI and preparing to head to the UK later this year to visit our churches there; VBC Cornwall and VBC Scotland. I’m also working on another church plant in Blackpool, England. Very exciting times!! There is one thought I had on my mind for this month; because the Lord wanted me to write about this phrase. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so. That thought, statement leads me to a very important question. Are you redeemed – born again? Let me explain the question. Psalm 107:2 says “Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy,” The word redeemed means: to gain or regain possession of (something) in exchange for payment. Let me put this in perspective, without writing a whole theological book on sin and redemption. Right at the very beginning Satan (formerly known as Lucifer – who wanted to take over God’s throne) was tossed out of Heaven for his pride. So, what does he do? He manipulated the mother of the human race (Eve) to eat the ‘apple’ and her husband Adam also ate it. In doing so they gave up their God given authority over the planet Earth to Satan. This was the first sin. This is why Jesus, the Son of God, had to come. To restore our, mankind’s, relationship with God the Father and to reestablish God’s original calling and authority for us, mankind. How does God redeem us? Good question. Romans 5:8 tells us. Romans 5:8 (TPT): But Christ proved God’s passionate love for us by dying in our place while we were still lost and ungodly! Ya see there was no other way for us, mankind, to be saved. The only payment that could be paid was the sinless blood of the Lamb of God, Christ Jesus, had to be spilled and His life given as the one and only redemptive price for our salvation. Jesus didn’t stay dead though – He arose again on the third day and ascended back into Heaven and is sitting at the right hand of God the Father praying for you and me right now. How can you be redeemed? Romans 10:9-11 tells us. Romans 10:9–11 9 If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, Everyone who believes on him will not be put to shame, So, the first step is to believe in your heart that Jesus is God, that He died for your sins and rose again. Then based on your faith in Christ Jesus confession with your mouth Jesus is Lord. You are saved. Finally, tell others of how God saved you and what He has done for you. Also, find a good bible based church – if you can’t make it to Victory Biker Church. God loves you bikers and so do I Much Love & Respect, Apostle Brian “BMAN” McKay Senior Pastor, International President & Founder Victory Biker Church International apostlebman@victorybikerchurch.org www.victorybikerchurch.org

HOT ROD’S TOPICS July issue already getting published!?! The summer riding season is upon us and going fast! There are so many things to do and so many awesome fund-raising events that it’s impossible to go to all of them. Our Foundation is very active and our members are doing what they can to help out. Yes, there are some who aren’t always available to participate because of family or special events that they have been going to for years and yet you always have special members who are dedicated to our cause and are always there and can be counted on. We have been blessed with caring and loving families who have hearts as big as watermelons and care about organizations that help those in need. They never blink when it’s time to work! We just finished with one of our big events at the Milan Community Fair. We had so many people stop by and recognize our mission for Motorcycle Awareness and Suicide Prevention that hopefully we did make a difference in the community recognizing that “You are NOT alone” and there is help available with our information and supplies we had at our booth. April was National Child Abuse Prevention Month and in an effort to raise awareness and support this cause, Hot Rods Motorcycle Awareness and Suicide Prevention Foundation, our nonprofit based in Milan, worked with the Foster Care / Children’s Protective Services in Lenawee County to gather supplies for a “Grab and Go” bag program. Our members did an awesome job gathering backpacks, duffel bags, art supplies, hygiene products, blankets, small toys, stuffed animals and McDonald gift cards. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services really appreciated our efforts and the donations. Thanks to the The Daily Telegram in Adrian for placing an article in your newspaperthis really warmed our hearts. All bikers know what it’s like to be looked at differently when we dress in our protective gear, wear our vests with patches all over them, have tattoos or whatever, but you will not find a more caring, exceptional, giving group of individuals anywhere in any organization than bikers. You are special and much appreciated. May God bless us all! May the road rise to meet you and the wind always be at your back. Hot Rod

So why would you pay a lawyer a fee to collect what is rightfully yours? We will guide you through the claims process, BUT…unless we have to file a lawsuit…we will never charge an injured biker a fee to help them collect the no-fault benefits they deserve. Other lawyers take 33% of their client’s no-fault benefits, even when the insurance company is cooperating. We think that’s flat out WRONG! Thanks to all the riders who attended the ABATE of Michigan Freedom Rally on June 1st, to show your support for House Bill 4809 and to show legislators that motorcyclists will not stand for being the only class of vehicles that are not given the benefit of their own choice in no fault insurance medical expense caps. As an attorney representing injured motorcyclists, I drafted House Bill 4809 that would allow injured motorcyclists to instead seek payment of their no-fault benefits from their own auto insurance, hence get the benefit of their own choice of medical benefit cap. We are always looking to grow our membership. Please consider becoming a member of ABATE, the most effective and largest grass roots motorcycle rights organization in our State. As a member of ABATE, your voice will have instant credibility with legislators in Lansing and you can use it to bring about actual change for motorcyclists in Michigan.

MOTO CAMPING : OHIO BIKE WEEK Riding from Michigan to visit the Midwest’s Largest Motorcycle Event Brendan Farren, MotoCamping Editor ReasonsToRide.com It’s fair to say that if you own a motorcycle you’ve heard of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota and Daytona Bike Week and like me, you’ve probably been to both or even one or the other. This year I was surprised and happy to learn Ohio has it’s very own bike week (yes Ohio) they hold in Sandusky, right on the shores of Lake Erie. Furthermore, they report that it’s the “Midwest’s Largest Motorcycle Event”! Upon learning about the rally and also wanting to try out my new tent somewhere close to home, I hopped online to look into camping near there so I could check this event out. Any Michigander knows about Cedar Point in Sandusky so I figured the camping options would be plentiful. I clicked on a few websites and while most places seemed like fairly decent places for fun and families, I was not feeling the love or enthusiasm I was hoping to for Ohio Bike Week patrons, that is until I came across Crystal Rock Campground in Sandusky. This place looked perfect. I made my reservations online for a primitive tent site and began counting down the days. In the days leading up to the event I did my standard bike checks and decided to replace my rear tire and change oil just to be on the safer side of this and not have to write about how I didn’t follow my own advice to you readers. (I have to throw in a thank you to Hunt’s Hog Shop in Lansing for coming through on the tire mount). The night before, I grabbed my gear and ‘Bones’ my plastic skeleton sidekick I take on most trips, and loaded the bike. Crystal Rock Campground was less than a three hour ride avoiding the turnpike and was enjoyable to see some of Ohio’s smaller towns and farmland. I arrived at the campground a bit

earlier than expected and a couple hours before official check in times. I went into the front office to see if my site was available and met the one of the owners, Heidi. Heidi was super friendly and informative about what was going on in the area mentioning repeatedly how happy they were to host bikers for the rally. She handed me a Thunder Roads Ohio magazine and pocket rally guide and told me some of my Thunder Road Ohio counterparts were staying onsite as well, albeit in the cabins glamping it up. Seriously though I was eager to meet the Ohio team. Crystal Rock Campground has ANY type of camp site you are looking for from primitive tent like I almost always use, all the way up to cabins with ac and electric and everything in between. They have hot showers and the facilities are clean and maintained very well. You can buy firewood there and they have a small general store which has snacks, drinks, small souvenirs and even some often overlooked items like bug spray and shampoo etc. I was pleased to find things reasonably priced and not crazy high like you might expect to find at a camp store. Heidi got me all checked in and I rode to my site H5. I met my neighbor who was very outgoing and had been going to the event since it started years ago. I spent a couple evenings and a rainstorm just shooting the bull with him he was a treasure trove of information for the event and it was fun to run into him and his group in town at the event. I have to say I was thoroughly impressed with my new tent. After losing my Vuz-Moto any tent I bought after would have some substantial shoes to fill. After some research I was debating on either the Lone Rider or the Wolf Walker. I like to have the bike “garage” on my tent as I have been in some serious weather including torrential rain and even snow. I don’t always use it but it is nice to have it in case. I opted for the Wolf Walker mainly for its price, at only a couple hundred bucks compared to almost $700 for the Lone Rider. Before I get any guff from you if you are looking at my pics, I understand the kickstand should be between me and the bike but for picture purposes I had it pulled in this way. The tent came in a quality bag that fit easily on my motorcycle. It was similar to my old tent so it set up easily. The Wolf Walker came with quality, color coded poles and had plenty of space for me, Bones and my gear for a week long adventure. What I was most impressed with though was how it held up to the major rainstorm right out of the bag. I typically treat my tents with waterproofing spray once a year, I did not get a chance to do that to the Wolf Walker before this outing. I got hit with STRONG rain on Wednesday and the tent handled it impeccably, not a single drop made it inside. On a side note I still plan on spraying it before my next usage just to give it an extra layer

of protection. If you are in the market for a new tent for motocamping and like to have the added space for your motorcycle I would urge you to strongly consider the Wolf Walker. Ohio Bike Week is set up in downtown Sandusky on the shores of Lake Eerie near the docks for the Put-in-Bay and Kelley Island ferries a glance across the bay you can see the Cedar Point skyline. I met up with Derek my Editor-in-Chief at the party Thunder Roads Ohio hosted at Jimmy Bukket’s in Fremont, Ohio just outside of Sandusky and participated in all the events there including being the runner up in the (soon to be world famous) Lime Races, from there the fun only escalated the rest of the week. The rides during Ohio Bike Week were varied and plentiful. They included a winery tour hosted by Mad River Harley Davidson, Kelley Island runs with free rides for your motorcycle on the ferry and the popular Jesse James ride. Admittedly having the magazine people like Derek in the loop helped tremendously on not missing out on any of the activities. I got to meet and ride with Billy Grotto from Twisted Tea going to various Micky-Marts (Ohioans know) to promote Twisted Tea by having burn out competitions and indulging in a couple free samples. I got to meet riding legends like Bean’re, pronounced Beaner and his unforgettable boots and have a drink with him at Barrel House Saloon. The bike show hosted by Thunder Roads Ohio crew was not to be missed. Great bikes in all categories. I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to have pictures of my bike taken with the beautiful bike model Jenny and even got her to help me do some of the judging and hung at the show with her. The concert events were great! The stage near Barrel House hosted a plethora of talented acts ranging in genres. Jesse James and Jackyl kicked the headliner concerts off. While I enjoyed Jackyl I think I enjoyed Lita Ford the following night the most I had some fun dance partners for that one. I am definitely not taking anything away from Slaughter who played on the last night and the Progressive Insurance laser show after each concert was fun and done well. I want to thank Thunder Roads Ohio crew Derek, Jason, Dave, Kim and the other Dave (sorry I know I am forgetting some) for showing me such a great time. One thing that stood out to me at Ohio Bike Week was a very different feel from other rallies like Sturgis and Daytona as far as the camaraderie. Ohio seemed to have a more personal, friendly and brotherly feel to it compared to the others I have been to which seemed more about saying you were there not as much as being a part of the brotherhood. I came away from the Ohio Bike Week experience feeling like I was part of something and not just in attendance. That includes the campground and everyone I met and spoke to while there. Well done Ohio! Now if we could just do something about those Buckeyes. Until next time. For more on Ohio Bike Week – check out www.ReasonsToRide.com/OhioBikeWeek

I DONE DONE IT A couple of months ago I mentioned that I wanted to replace my trusty Glock 43 with a Sig P365 before I made my trip to Deadwood in July. Not so long ago, a friend decided to sell his P365xl and made me a real good deal on it. Taking possession, I went to the range and fired two magazines using the stock tritium night sights and was extremely satisfied with my acquisition. The range officer watching me said he was impressed, but pressed me to shoot his P365, which was topped by with RMR style sight. Now, I have not been a fan of red dot sighting systems, because I don’t believe in trusting my life to anything that takes a battery. I have shot other guns with red dots and found them to be a blast, especially when clearing a plate rack, but on two separate occasions have had the red dot fail in the middle of a string of fire, which served to prove my hesitance to the use one of these sighting systems on a personal defense firearm. Even of the gun was equipped with elevated front and rear sights (suppressor/ red dot height) I was less than impressed, because I found sight acquisition to be a challenge and because they were so far above the body of the pistol; then came a short bus practical education. Putting ten rounds in the offered firearm I shot another target at the same range I had fired mine, the group tightened! I asked him what happens if the battery dies and to answer my question he removed the battery, killing the dot system, and gave the gun back to me. I sighted through the screen and saw that I had a perfect view of the stock front sight and there was a notch in the base of the RMR to act as a rear sight and a few rounds later I found that I shot this gun with a disabled red dot as well as I shot my own without the sighting system. I was impressed and after eating a healthy (sic) platter of crow I did some serious research to find ared dot for my new pistol.

having both or either the dot or the ring. And while all the sights in this category have a shake wake feature and 50.000 hour plus batter life, the coup-d-gras is the fact you can change the battery on the Holosun without removing it from your gun!!! That made it the winner. I stuck with the red dot rather than getting the green dot (better battery life) and I chose the 507 with the 2 MOA dot over the 407 with a 6MOA dot because the larger dot tended to obscure to much of the bullseye. Once I had it mounted it was back to the range to confirm and adjust the sighting so that the setup fit me. I hope there is room for the picture of my target in this article, if there is this was ten rounds at ten yards in 10 seconds – not to shabby and it all tightens up if I slow down and shoot like the old fart I am supposed to be! To close, I have a little advice... I really think that people need to heed all the gun control talk coming out of Washington, but remember talk in DC is a lot like crap in geese; to much and to fast! If you are looking for a firearm don’t panic buy, because they can’t snatch guns as fast as they want you to think they can. If you are going to buy (I think you should) buy quality and plenty of ammo.

Sig makes the Romeo sights for their firearms and the Romeo Zero is built for these guns, but there are other sight systems available, and they all have some common features as well as those exclusive to the brand. I settled on the HOLOSUN 507 for my firearm and here is why. First the Holosun has an all-metal body, which I think means better durability. Next, it features 10 brightness settings with the controls easily accessed on the side of the unit. The 507 has a 2MOA dot and a 32 MOA ring around it, plus you can easily use switch from SPONSORSHIP AVAILABLE PLEASE CONTACT JODY MO 989-615-5757 FOR DETAILS 34 THUNDER ROADS MAGAZINE MICHIGAN

The IRS decided to audit Grandpa, and summoned him to the IRS office. The IRS auditor was not surprised when Grandpa showed up with his attorney. The auditor said, “Well, sir, you have had a very extravagant lifestyle and no full-time employment, which you explain by saying that you win money gambling. I’m not sure the IRS finds that believeable. “I’m a great gambler, and I can prove it,” says Grandpa. “How about a demonstration?” The auditor thinks for a moment and says, “It’s a bet.” Grandpa removes his glass eye and bites it. The auditor’s jaw drops. Grandpa says, “Now, I’ll bet you two thousand dollars that I can bite my other eye.” The auditor can tell Grandpa isn’t blind, so he takes the bet. Grandpa removes his dentures and bites his good eye. The stunned auditor now realizes he has wagered and lost three grand, with Grandpa’s attorney as a witness. “Want to go double or nothing?” Grandpa asks. “I’ll bet you six thousand dollars that I can stand on one side of your desk, and pee into that wastebasket on the other side, and never get a drop anywhere in between.” The auditor, twice burned, is cautious now, but he looks carefully and decides there’s no way this old guy could possibly manage that stunt, so he takes him up on the bet. Grandpa stands beside the desk and unzips his pants, but although he strains mightily, he can’t make the steam reach the wastebasket on the other side, so he pretty much urinates all over the auditor’s desk. The auditor leaps with joy, realizing that he has just turned a major loss into a huge win! But Grandpa’s attorney moans and puts his head in his hands. “Are you ok?” the auditor asks. “Not really,” says the attorney. “This morning when Grandpa told me he’d been summoned for an audit, he bet me twenty-five thousand dollars that he could come in here and piss all over your desk and that you’d actually be very happy about it all!” -------------------------------------------------------------Don’t mess with Anyone under 5’5”. Soak up some summer sunshine and circle Lake Superior in our second installment of Great Lakes Touring Rallies! This five-day journey around the world’s largest lake by surface area begins in Marquette, MI, and crosses into Canada, so don’t forget your passport! We’ll start by riding along the southern edge of Lake Superior on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula before crossing the border at Sault Ste. Marie. From there, we’ll travel to Thunder Bay, Ontario on part of the famous Trans-Canada Highway, the world’s longest national road. Later, we re-enter the U.S. near Duluth, MN, completing the circle at our starting point of Marquette, Michigan. Marquette, MI
