ACCOMM. CRANE BARGE
The PSV-2700 is primary designed for offshore supply of mud, brine, fuel and containers. She has two propellers, electric driven, and two bow thrusters which provide the propulsion for dynamic positioning (DP2) and maximum maneuverability. Because of the optimized low freeboard the vessel is also suitable for near surface activities. She has a length of 72.03 meters, beam of 15.60 meters and total deadweight of 2700 ton.
Kriesels Shipbroker together with a shipyard recently launched a brand new diving support vessel design. The DSV-60 is designed for offshore diving activities and is a medium sized DSV providing an accommodation for a complement of 60 persons complying to the requirements of the SPS code. With the installed propulsion consisting of four azimuth thrusters, two aft and two forward, a highly efficient dynamic positioning with a lot of capacity is created. This vessel is suitable for a variety of diving support activities mainly because of her deck and hold capacity in combination with the installed 50 tons crane.
The OSV-100 is a compact and economical offshore support vessel capable of doing several offshore operations such as diving support, inspection, maintenance and repair activities. She has a total capacity of 100 persons, a moonpool, helideck and various optional crane capacities can be installed. The main crane capacity is 150 tons and an auxiliary crane of 24 tons is included. The vessel features a special shallow draft design, total deck space of 1000 m2, length of 100 meters, beam of 19 meters, and a high accuracy DP2 system.
The ACB-200/300 is one of the designs in the ACB portfolio. This accommodation crane barge is designed for offshore support activities including diving activities. The crane has a lifting capacity of 300 tons and the barge accommodates 200 persons. The barge is equipped with a four point mooring anchor system and 4 independent propulsion units connected to the central bridge with DP2. The vessel includes a helideck, moonpool of 6 by 6 meters, deck area of 1050 m2, length of 80 meters and beam of 26 meters.

IN LOVE, ENGAGED OR MARRIED? CHILDREN?
Married to Jolanda. We have two children: Maarten and Barbara. And two cats: Tonnie and Saartje.
Married, we have four children (aged between 16 and 21) and four goldfish.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB? WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST BLOOPER? 1979. During an internship. The vice president was visiting and I was asked to check and clean his watch. The final stage was cleaning the glass and in the process I wiped away all the lettering. I had to hand the ‘repaired’ watch to the vice president myself …
I was a painter in my father’s painting business. Lots and lots and lots of sanding and I was only allowed to apply my first topcoat after more than a year …
WHAT ADVICE COULD YOU GIVE TO NEW PROFESSIONALS IN THE BUSINESS?
Billions are wasted by government on failed automation projects. I would place them all under the responsibility of a single Ministry.
Listen carefully, be curious, ask about why particular choices are made (surprisingly often we hear ‘because that’s the way we always do it’), learn from the answers and don’t be afraid to give your own opinion (based on sound arguments).
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE WORK PROJECT?
WHAT WOULD YOU SPEND YOUR LAST € 100 ON?
The Shell Prelude fLNG project. In close collaboration with Shell, I raised instrument asset management and maintenance strategy to the level of proactive maintenance.
A beautiful model boat.

WHO WOULD BE YOUR IDEAL DINNER PARTNER FOR AN 8-COURSE MEAL? Jeff Dunham. We would laugh all the way through.
WHERE IS THERE ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT IN THIS BUSINESS? Knowledge management and entrepreneurship. A great deal of knowledge and experience are lost by not being passed on (on time). Businesses let themselves be guided far too much by systems that should in fact only supervise and adjust work processes on the basis of a fixed set of KPIs.
WITH WHOM WOULD YOU LIKE TO SWAP PLACES FOR A DAY?
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE WORK PROJECT? Engineering Manager on the Caesar pipe layer conversion project. With a relatively small team and limited resources, creating the best possible project for a client in the US and a yard in China. My current project at Heerema: building the largest semi-submersible crane vessel in the world is another great project to be involved in. I have in fact only ever had ‘favourite’ work projects in my 23-year career.
FINISH THIS SENTENCE: I AM COMPLETELY HAPPY … … I find myself on board one of the vessels I have worked on and see how the design ideas are put into practice.

DRILLING PLATFORM OFFERS DEN HELDER NEW OPPORTUNITIES The platform Paragon C462 (formerly the Dyvi Epsilon, built in 1981, then renamed Neddrill 7 and subsequently Noble Piet van Ede) arrived in Den Helder, for inspection and maintenance work.
Jan van de Nes Soon to depart Port Director Piet-Hein Kolff believes this could represent a huge boost for the entire offshore industry in Northern North Holland. “We now have the opportunity to show the market that our port is also suitable for so-called lifetime extension and maintenance work on board platforms. The last time work of this kind was undertaken here was twenty years ago, when two platforms were in fact moored here, simultaneously, alongside what was then known as the Onderzeedienstkade. The new name for the modernised and enlarged location is the Nieuwediepkade. During her stay in the Port of Den Helder, a skeleton crew of between twenty and twenty-five people will remain on board the Paragon C462.
The agent for the Paragon C462 operated by Paragon Offshore is DHSS (Den Helder Support Service). DHSS Director Wim Schouwenaar announced even before the huge structure arrived that much work would have to be done in order to facilitate the platform, and make the mooring available for the necessarily long stay. The preparations involved intensive consultation with the Royal Dutch Navy, and of course the Port of Den Helder.
REGION Tom Gravemaker of Paragon Offshore based in Beverwijk explained that Den Helder’s geographical location makes it the ideal site for his business. “The short distance to the drilling location combined with the flexible capacity port and airport around the corner mean that we can efficiently prepare our Paragon C462 platform for its next mission, he told our publication. For Den Helder and the surrounding area, maintenance activities offer a huge volume of work. It is already known that metalworking company P. Smit BV based at Kooypunt will be carrying out the construction work, and that the high pressure pipework will be produced by a specialist from the region. Maintenance of the drilling equipment and the water reservoir will also be carried out in the Port of Den Helder, and the accommodation module is due to be revamped.

WHITNEY VEEN TO BE DIRECTOR PORT OF DEN HELDER Director Piet-Hein Kolff is soon to leave the Port of Den Helder. His successor is the Dutch-American Whitney Veen, who just like Kolff has been involved with the organisation since its establishment.
Jan van de Nes Kolff has occupied the position of Managing Director of the Port of Den Helder since 1 July 2013. He established an (inter) national network, led the area development programme and improved cooperation within the region. With a strategic plan through to the year 2020, the focus was placed on partnerships with Den Helder Airport, the Royal Dutch Navy, the Haven en Scheepvaart Vereniging (Port and Shipping Association - HSV), The NoordHolland-Noord Development Cooperation (ONHN), the Maritime Campus Netherlands (MCN) and others. According to Kolff, cooperating with existing and new clients in the port area offers plenty of good prospects. “Knowledge, work and physical space for growth are the three key pillars on which the Port of Den Helder plans to expand and consolidate its future activities. In a new phase with a new dynamic approach, the results already achieved will form the foundation stones for the successful development of the Northern NorthHolland area. I am extremely proud to have been able to contribute to this development.
The new CEO Whitney Veen plans to utilise those growth opportunities. Photograph: PressOffshore Den Helder.
EXPERIENCE His successor has already acquired huge experience in her role as deputy director, group controller and CFO. Whitney Veen brings with her the necessary knowledge of both Den Helder and the offshore sector. In the past she was employed as business development coordinator at Expro North Sea Ltd (Den Helder), contract assistant at Onstream European Consultancy (Den Helder) and as senior budget manager at the Helderse Marinebedrijf. Before she became CFO at the Port of Den Helder, she spent one year at Schneider Electric in Hoorn as plant financial controller. Ms Veen was born in Wheatridge, Colorado and has both Dutch and American nationality. She graduated summa cum laude in her MBA degree programme at the Indiana Wesleyan University. Soon to be departing Director Piet-Hein Kolff created growth opportunities for the Port of Den Helder in 2.5 years. Photograph: PressOffshore Den Helder.

DAMEN MARINE COMPONENTS CELEBRATES 150TH ANNIVERSARY
A WORLDWIDE TOAST TO DMC Ellen Lengkeek Damen Marine Components (DMC) celebrated its 150th anniversary with a huge party at the Nijverheidsstraat in Hardinxveld-Giessendam. And not only there. Via a satellite link-up, around one thousand customers, employees, suppliers and colleagues from the three central locations in Hardinxveld, Jiangyin in China and Gdansk in Poland raised a toast to this historical event. The oldest roots of DMC lie within the Damen Shipyards Group.
This international group, with an average annual turnover of 1.7 billion euro, operates 32 shipbuilding and repair yards and hands over around 160 new vessels per year, to customers all round the world. Thanks to this international approach, Damen is always able to guarantee that parts are supplied on time, and that service and training can be provided at short notice, anywhere in the world. At the end of last month, a second major production facility was opened in Jiangyin in China. The location in Gdansk is also set to be further expanded over the coming years, by 4,000 m2. In Poland, a second spinning machine was re-

cently commissioned, capable of producing nozzles of up to 7.5 metres (DMC now has three such units). Over the past ten years, DMC has almost tripled turnover to 36 million euro.
History The fact that this special milestone has been reached is thanks to Jan van de Giessen, who in 1865 launched a small shipyard on the Kalkhaven in Gorinchem. When that port was filled in, he was forced to move to the nearby Hardinxveld. There too, many small river-going fishing boats were built. Later, the Van de Giessen Shipyard helped contribute to the success of the Damen Shipyards Group, as fabricators of hulls among others for the world-famous Pushy Cats tugboat range. The production of nozzles, rudders, winches and many other marine components brought the company huge success throughout the nineteen eighties. In 2005, the yard was rechristened Damen Marine Components. The offices remained in Hardinxveld, but work was expanded to include production facilities in Poland and China. DMC was officially founded ten years ago, when two companies from the Damen Group merged, namely Van de Giessen and Gdansk Engineering Works. At the time, GEW was the first company acquired by Damen Shipyards outside the Netherlands.
NEW BOOK ABOUT PORT OF ROTTERDAM This month, a new book was presented about the port of Rotterdam. Entitled De haven van Rotterdam – Wereld tussen stad en zee (The Port of Rotterdam – World between City and Sea), the way in which the port and city have influenced one another is described in words and pictures. The book navigates the reader along all the places where port technology is designed, where trends are made visible and where new landscape is given form. From Maasvlakte II to the Fruithavens, from Vogeleiland in the Slufter to RDM, and from Botlek to the Kop van Zuid: portraits of 36 special locations, infographics, port histories and photographs reveal unique facets of the landscape of this port city. Landscape architect Adriaan Geuze helped design this book with other contributions from journalist Frank de Kruif and Isabelle Vries from the Rotterdam Port Authority. Jannes Linders and Siebe Swart were responsible for the photography. The Port of Rotterdam helped make the production of this book possible. The book is available in Dutch and English, and as an e-reader. Price: € 49.50. More information: www.nai010.com/haven
The book features many pictures including these photographs of cheerful dock workers in the Botlek area by Jannes Linders.

BRIDGES2000 IS ALL ABOUT SAFE ACCESSIBILITY When he launched BRIDGES2000 in 1999, Hendrik van der Ham the company CEO had already acquired considerable experience in shipping and the metal sector. By applying his expertise to the world of lightweight gangways, connecting bridges, jetties and pontoons, he succeeded in establishing an excellent reputation, that has now extended into the offshore industry.
FULL SERVICE
Leo van Teeffelen Since King’s Day was celebrated in Dordrecht, his products also have a royal ‘seal of approval’. On 27 April 2015, the entire Royal Family safely transferred from ship to shore on a gangway produced by BRIDGES2000. Video evidence of the royal crossing appears on the website www.bridges2000.nl. When it comes to the day-to-day practice of safe accessibility in de offshore and shipping industries, Van der Ham and his team have faced far more demanding challenges. Under constantly changing circumstances, the workforce must be able to make a safe crossing any time, any place. Van der Ham is all too pleased to take up the challenge. “I have always been a problem solver; I think in terms of solutions.” The special capabilities of BRIDGES2000 have also been noted abroad. “We receive requests from Belgium, France, Germany, Denmark and Italy.” Most notably, in attracting this attention, Hendrik van der Ham has barely had to tap into his pool of marketing talent. The products effectively speak for themselves. “Our customers pass on the news to their colleagues in the industry, and they
novate, calculate, design, model and create prototypes until we reach the stage that the custom-made product fulfils the customer’s specific requirements.” For the construction of offshore windfarms, for example, BRIDGES2000 supplies special bridges between the base on which the wind turbines are built and the jack-up or workboat responsible for the work; and for mooring high-sided vessels at quaysides, special extendable hydraulic stair systems have been designed.
Hendrik van der Ham in one of the gangways ready for delivery offshore. then come direct to us. Of course we attend trade fairs, but we make little further effort in attracting customers; they approach us.”
MOMENTS OF CELEBRATION As well as clients including large refineries, who use connecting bridges to make the passage between storage tanks, the cruise industry (for example on passenger ships like the Oasis of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship) and cruise terminals in numerous different ports around the world, the customer base for BRIDGES2000 includes Boskalis, Van Oord and the Allseas Group. BRIDGES2000 are also often called in for moments of celebration, when sometimes thousands of visitors have to be able to make the safe passage from shore to ship and
back to shore, in comfort, and with dry feet. Specifically for these events, harmonica doors are used, and the bridges are built and installed in such a way that they can also easily be negotiated by wheelchair users.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS At the company site in Zevenbergen, a whole fleet of gangways are ready and waiting for immediate deployment in offshore projects. Most are made available on a rental basis, but some units are also sold. Specific requirements are often imposed in the offshore sector, but not only in terms of safety; all our products are ISO-certified and inspected by Bureau Veritas and ABS. They are all used for unique applications. For each application, the initial contact is the starting signal to in-
(Offshore) customers can count on full service. The company even takes care of transporting the modules to the intended destination, onsite installation and any alterations that become necessary. All this work is carried out in consultation with the customer, so a technician accompanies each delivery. At the end of a project, the process is reversed. “Our customers get on with their work, and can be confident in the fact that we have supplied a reliable product, backed up by full service, speed and flexibility. That after all is our work.” Despite the slowdown in development in the offshore industry in 2015, which Van der Ham poetically referred to as ‘offshore stagnation’, BRIDGES2000 is currently further expanding its storage and production capacity in Zevenbergen. When asked about his vision on the future, Van der Ham responded without delay. “We have no need to become the largest in the industry, but we do want to be the bestknown name in safe accessibility. That is what it is all about.”
CEO Hendrik van der Ham thinks in terms of solutions.

GREEN LIGHT FOR NORSCO OILFIELD SERVICES On 10 November 2015, the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and VCA** certificates were presented to Norsco Oilfield Services. As a consequence, this modern, young but nonetheless very experienced business is ready and waiting to spread its wings into the world of the oil and gas industry. After building a complete new facility this year, all the players were brought on board and right now preparations are underway for commissioning a brand-new inspection hall. All in all, the people in Ter Apel seem to have left nothing to chance. Bert Platje is the managing director of Norsco Oilfield Services, and a man with a solid reputation in the Industry. With his 35 years of experience, Platje clearly knows what he is doing. “The values I believe in are: topflight service, honesty and a deal is a deal. These principles are absolutely essential to me. With those ideas in mind, we will be in a position to support our clients and take away their concerns in a whole range of fields.”
4 SUBSIDIARIES Norsco Oilfield Services is the parent company to four subsidiaries: Norsco Rentals, Cleanstream, BMS Development and Pipecare. Each entity has its own field of specialist service. The company also collaborates with Mycelco for the biological cleaning of residual products in a venture known as Biological Clean. Norsco has opted for a strategic establishment location in the form of a 20,000 m² site in Ter Apel, the Netherlands. This location provides excellent links to both Scandinavia and the rest of Europe. At the same time, the German motorway network and the Eemshaven are within easy striking distance. The relatively low total travelled kilometres will
represent a huge saving on transport costs for Norsco’s clients.
CLEANSTREAM Cleanstream decontaminates radioactive (NORM and LSA) contaminated equipment and tubulars from the oil and gas industry, geothermal drilling and other industrial applications. In this work, Cleanstream uses innovative methods that place the highest priority on environmental protection. In the words of manager Ronald Dekker, “We are the only company whose core activity is the cleaning of radioactive-contaminated materials, and that fact is reflected in the level of quality we provide. We always aim for the best possible result, while guaranteeing the quality of the customer’s equipment.”
service and quality,” suggested Pipecare’s Operations Manager Martin Kuipers.
BMS DEVELOPMENT BMS Development is the Norsco department that specialises in supplying chemicals to the oil and gas industry. This portfolio was recently expanded to include a wide range of chemicals for cleaning and stimulation of oilfield equipment. As a result, BMS Development serves upstream, midstream and downstream clients in the oil and gas industry.
PIPECARE Pipecare is a highly motivated business specialised in the inspection of tubing, casings, BHA, drillpipe and other tubulars. The fact that these services can be offered alongside those provided by Cleanstream makes Norsco unique as the one-stop shopping address for the cleaning, decontamination and inspection of tubulars. This combined approach also helps restrict the customer’s transport costs as far as possible. “Thanks to the short lines of communication within Norsco, we can guarantee short lead times, while still focusing on the spearheads of
NORSCO RENTALS Norsco Rentals rents out more than 120 CCUs for the offshore sector and (supply companies for) the oil and gas industry. At the same time, Norsco Rentals can call upon a fleet of Tubular Transport Frames, thereby backing up sister companies Pipecare and Cleanstream in the transport of their tubular systems both internally at Norsco and by road. In terms of rental services, Norsco Rentals is the partner for continental Europe for the well-known British Ferguson Group.
BIOLOGICAL CLEAN Biological Clean is the name of the joint venture between Mycelco and Norsco Oilfield Services, responsible for the biological cleaning of residual products produced by the petrochemical industry and elsewhere. Within Biological Clean, methods and systems are developed for this work that are capable of delivering a major contribution to other companies within the sector in fulfilling their corporate social responsibility. All in all, following the presentation of the various certificates to Norsco, the company is very much in the starting blocks! The highly motivated team at Norsco Oilfield Services will be delighted to welcome visitors either in Ter Apel or on the completely redesigned website www.norsco.com.

KOOIMAN TO OVERHAUL THE BIG BOYS The Dutch piloting service Loodswezen has awarded shipyard Gebr. Kooiman in Zwijndrecht the order for large-scale maintenance on the SWATH vessels Cetus and Perseus. These two catamarans (measuring 25.65 x 14.25 x 2.70 m) were both built ten years ago. Kooiman has already started the maintenance on the Cetus, and the Perseus will follow, at the start of next year.
Ellen Lengkeek In collaboration with a series of suppliers to the Loodswezen, Kooiman has been awarded the order to install a new diesel-electric propulsion system, new generators and all the related building work. As a result, the power output of the vessels will be increased. Chan-
HOLLAND DIESEL MAASSLUIS ENJOYS DOUBLE CELEBRATION Holland Diesel Maassluis (HDM), a company that supplies and maintains all types and makes of diesel engines for offshore, industrial and other applications, ended the year with a double celebration. HDM has been an important part of the lives of both Hans and Irene. At the reception, held in the company’s showroom, a remarkably large

The SWATHs can be deployed by the Loodswezen in practically all weather conditions, thanks to their huge stability. Pilot services can be provided in wave heights up to around 3.5 metres. These 26 metre-long vessels owe much of their stability to their two floatation hulls. The excellent seaworthiness is largely due to the construction itself. Due to the minimal surface waterline, waves have practically no influence on the vessels. The sailing performance is further enhanced by the use of stabiliser fins in the two buoyancy tanks, that use computer controls to minimise pitching and yawing motion.

TH
SPARKLING 70 EDITION OF PORT GUILD DINNER On 29 November last, Amports celebrated a special edition of its Port Guild Dinner. On that day, for the seventieth time, everyone who is anyone in the port industry in Amsterdam and beyond came together for their annual event, that offers an opportunity to meet, to network and to enjoy a topflight dinner. The evening celebration was hallmarked by the idea of the circular port; the importance of reusing products and materials, and retaining the value of resources. The whole affair was a celebration of innovation and alternative work approaches.
Evelien Papa Whereas in previous years the main theme for discussion was the sea lock, this year that particular subject received barely any attention. The president of Amports, Frans Baud, did refer briefly to the sea lock during the traditional speech, saying, “It is worth taking a moment
Around 500 port-related entrepreneurs, politicians and administrators from the North Sea Canal area and the rest of the Netherlands attended the Port Guild Dinner. to consider the fact that we have nothing more to tell you about the new lock! The financing has finally been settled, and in 2019 we will be the proud owners of the largest lock in the world.” Instead, Baud called for attention for the importance of innovation and sustainability in the port, but remained realistic. “Slowly but surely fossil fuels are being phased out. No matter how many wind turbines we build or solar cells we install, if the wind stops blowing or the sun does not shine for long enough, we will still need conventional power stations. Electricity does not simply fall out of the sky; it still has to be generated, although it goes without saying that the process does have to be as sustainable as possible.”
COMMISSIONER Also attending the Port Guild Dinner, surrounded by some five hundred of the port’s leading entrepreneurs, politicians and administrators from the North Sea Canal area,
and the rest of the Netherlands too, was Johan Remkes, King’s Commissioner for the Province of North Holland. In his speech, he listed a number of the region’s strong points (including solid infrastructure, competitive character and the arrival of the sea lock), but at the same time he referred to the challenges facing the entire port community, in the light of sustainable energy requirements. He called upon those present to work harder at bringing the fragmentation to an end, and to help further cooperation between industry, (provincial) politics and harbour masters. “No one can go it alone. All parties will have to join forces in promoting the interests of the region. There are opportunities aplenty.”
PORT MEDAL In what has almost become a tradition, the festivities reached their highpoint with the presentation of the Amports Port Medal. On this occasion, Frans Baud presented the medal of honour to the CEO of Havenbedrijf Amsterdam NV Dertje Meijer. The Port Medal is handed out each year to an entrepreneur or administrator who has made a special contribution to the Amsterdam port region. There was no doubt whatsoever that Meijer was more deserving than anyone of this prestigious medal. Meijer was visibly surprised and in her acknowledgement speech rained praise on all her colleagues within the port authority.
CHEQUE The foundation Emma at Work was presented with cheque worth 50,000 euro on behalf
Amports’ president Frans Baud here presenting the Port Medal to port CEO Dertje Meijer. of the Havenbedrijf Amsterdam NV and other port-related businesses, by a still somewhat dazed Meijer. The efforts of Emma at Work are focused on helping young people suffering from chronic illnesses to acquire work experience. Meijer emphasised the key importance of offering young people an opportunity on the labour market. “Offer them a future. It is all about getting out there, and doing it!” When Meijer asked the people present which of them still had internship placements available, representatives from some fifteen businesses in the port spontaneously stood up. Prof. Hugo Heymans, former director and paediatrician at the Emma Children’s Hospital/AMC in Amsterdam, and the driving force behind Emma at Work, was delighted with the donation. In his inimitable manner, he then briefly described the principles behind Emma at Work, before expressing his particular gratitude for the generosity of the port community.

ƌƟƐƚ͛Ɛ ŝŵƉƌĞƐƐŝŽŶ of the West Rigel.
SEADRILL’S NEW SEMI-SUBMERSIBLE DRILLING UNIT ON BACK BURNER Jan van de Nes Seadrill subsidiary North Atlantic Drilling Ltd has reached an agreement with the yard fabricating the semi-submersible drilling unit West Rigel that the unit will remain moored at the Jurong Shipyard in Singapore, at least until June 2016. As yet, no work has been found for the new drilling behemoth so agreement was reached with NADL and Jurong that delivery of this sixth generation drilling
unit – suitable for working under extreme conditions – would be postponed for the time being. A collaboration agreement has been signed for this so-called stagnation period in which both parties will retain their ownership (NADL for 23 percent and Jurong for 77 percent). If no drilling contract has been signed by the end of this period, NADL will continue to look for alternative potential applications, but then on behalf of the Joint Asset Holding Company.
MHI VESTAS AUTHORISED TO BUILD IN GERMANY AND BELGIUM BUT NOT UK MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has announced that it will not be appealing against last month’s decision by the British authorities to refuse permission to its subsidiary Navitus Bay Ltd to develop the Navitus Bay project.
Jan van de Nes In April 2015, MHI Vestas Offshore Wind was identified as preferred supplier for delivery of the V164-8.0 MW turbines for this project. MHI Vestas announced that withdrawal of the project will have no influence on their order books because they had simultaneously signed the contract for a 450 MW in Germany, by the name of Borkum Riffgrund 2. This contract was signed with DONG Energy and involves the delivery of the same V164-8.0 MW turbines. MHI Vestas was earmarked as preferred supplier
for this project, on 10 June of this year. Although a final decision still has to be taken by DONG Energy about the necessary investment, no further problems are expected. Borkum Riffgrund 2 is approximately 57 kilometres off the Northwestern coast of Germany (to the northeast of Groningen). The windfarm will supply around 460,000 households with electricity. In the North Sea, MHI Vestas Offshore Wind is also building a 165 MW windfarm off the Belgian coast, with its partner Parkwind. This farm will consist of 50 type V112-3.3 MW turbines, and the project has
been christened Nobelwind. It will be the third project built by the two partners off the Belgian coast. The construction work has been entrusted to the newly established company Nobelwind NV, that itself has signed a joint venture agreement with Parkwind. This Belgian company owns and operates the 165 MW Belwind and the 216 MW Northwind farm, together with its shareholders Sumitomo Corporation and Meewind. The Nobelwind project includes a fifteen year full-scope service contract for MHI Vestas. The windfarm will be built 47 km off the coast of Belgium, and the construction and maintenance work will be carried out from Ostend. The planned completion date is 2017. The farm will deliver 651 GWh for more than 186,000 Belgian households.
Kooyhaven Den Helder.
GREEN LIGHT FOR KOOYHAVEN Despite objections from local residents, the Dutch Council of State has decided to allow the Municipalities of Den Helder and Hollands Kroon (Anna Paulowna) to develop the new Kooyhaven as a port for inland shipping vessels. In phase one, approximately 15 hectares of the in total approx. 50 hectares of commercial land will be made available. The developers of the port can offer a dockside length of around 500 metres and a water depth of around 4.5 metres for vessels and businesses licenced up to and including environmental category 5.2 (environmental impact up to 3.2). Account manager Katja Naber-van der Aa has already started promoting the available plots.

CONCORDIA ORDERS 2 RORO VESSELS: SIEMENS ESTIMATES COST SAVINGS OF 15-20 % Concordia Group intends to build and operate two Roll-on/Roll-off vessels. These transport vessels have been specially designed for the transport of nacelles and rotor blades from the production facilities to the installation ports. Siemens presented a new offshore logistics concept at EWEA 2015 in Paris. The company has signed a long-term framework contract with transport service provider Deugro Danmark A/S for two purpose-built transport vessels from Concordia Group to efficiently link Siemens’ existing production locations in Denmark with the new production facilities in Cuxhaven in Germany and Hull in the UK.
Instead of loading the up-to-75-meter-long rotor blades and nacelles weighing around 360 tonnes by crane, the large and heavy components will be rolled on and off of these vessels. This Roll-on/Roll-of process is known as Ro/Ro. Siemens has further developed this concept and Deugro will now provide tailor-made transport vessels designed by the Concordia Group, who will also be building and operating them. Siemens estimates cost savings of 15-20 percent compared to current transport procedures, depending on the location of the offshore wind power plant. Two special transport vessels, each with a length of approximately 140 metres, will be fabricated. One of the purpose-built vessels can transport eight nacelles of the current Siemens D7
2016: BLEAK YEAR FOR NORWEGIAN OIL SECTOR Norwegian companies that provide supply ships and drilling rigs to the global oil industry face a bleak year ahead as contracts disappear and financing options dwindle in the face of weak global crude prices. Investments by the Norwegian oil sector are expected to shrink by a further 5 percent in 2015, as compared to 2015. This means that businesses will be investing 20 percent less than a 2014, as a consequence of falling oil prices. The Norwegian companies could increasingly be forced to sell or write down the value of assets, cut jobs and tap shareholders
for cash to weather the downturn, according to industry experts. This would herald more pain for Norway, where the oil sector accounts for about a fifth of the overall economy, and where unemployment is rising, especially in the oil capital Stavanger and its environs on the west coast. One in every nine jobs in the country is dependent on the oil sector (which employs around 17,000 people). On the positive side, the Norwegian krone has recently weakened slightly against the dollar and the euro, a fact that represents a boost for Norway’s other export sectors.
wind turbine platform at a time. It is due to be launched as early as autumn 2016. The second vessel will accommodate up to 12 rotor blades and transport them from the production facility in Hull, UK, or from Aalborg, Denmark, to the respective installation port. Both vessels can also be unloaded by crane when required. This enhances the flexibility of the installation ports, which are selected according to project-specific requirements.
VAN OORD INSTALLS FOUNDATION FOR WALNEY EXTENSION WINDFARM Van Oord has reached agreement with DONG Energy from Denmark on the transport and installation of 87 foundation units for the English Walney Extension offshore windfarm. Following completion in 2018, this offshore windfarm will supply renewable energy to 460,000 households.

The Walney Extension offshore windfarm is located in the Irish Sea, approximately 10 kilometres off the coast of Walney Island, Cumbria, in the United Kingdom. The farm will consist of 87 wind turbines, 40 from Vestas and 47 from Siemens, that deliver a total capacity of 660 MW. Van Oord will be responsible for transporting the foundations, monopiles and transition pieces from the suppliers in Denmark, Germany and the United Kingdom. Subsequently, starting in spring 2017, the foundations will be installed at the project location.

THE LEADING BUSINESS TO BUSINESS EVENT FOR THE EEMSDELTA AREA
EEMSDELTA EXPO EVENT AT NEW LOCATION On Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 June 2016, the fifth edition of the Eemsdelta Expo trade event is due to be held. For the first time, the event is moving to a new location – but of course will remain in the Eemsdelta region. In what has become a positive tradition in the Eemsdelta region, the month of June is hallmarked by the Eemsdelta Expo event. In 2016, the trade fair is due to be organised for the fifth time. The combination of a wide-ranging professional trade fair and a seminar has proven to be a popular formula, with the number of participants rising by more than 20%, year on year.

This project is worth a staggering 2.4 billion euros. The chemical industry in Delfzijl has opted for renewal and advanced sustainability activities, to the tune of 40 million euro. The Eemsdelta region also finds itself on the eve of another large-scale operation. Between now and 2020, fifty million euros are set to be invested each year in repairing earthquake damage and strengthening 50,000 homes and business premises, to prevent further damage in the future. These developments in the Eemsdelta Region also represent huge opportunities for SME enterprises. In addition to technical maintenance and replacement work, for example, demand is also high for logistic, cleaning, green maintenance, security, training, catering and accommodation services.
