We said farewell to Mrs Terri Greig on 28 May as she moved to a post with City of Edinburgh Council. This week, Mrs Debbie Johnson leaves us to work in Customer Service in the Brunton Hall. We wish both ladies much happiness and success in their future and thank them for the stalwart work they have carried out at Campie over the years. Mrs Sharon McKenna comes back to work with Mrs Bird in Campie Office in August. Meanwhile we welcome Ms Calderhead to work in the office on Friday mornings. We are very pleased to tell you that Miss Alcock and Mrs Haldane will be starting permanent posts as teachers at Wallyford Primary from August 2010. Mr Shane Gielty is going to teach in an International School in Thailand. Mr Chetwynd has successfully completed his probationary year and I am sure you will join me in wishing him every success as he applies for permanent teaching posts. We are very sad that we won’t have any male teachers at Campie next session and have been encouraging our P7 boys to go into primary teaching! Mrs June Jeffrey is retiring after many years teaching PE at Campie. The children will be saying farewell to her at assembly on Tuesday 29 June. We will also say farewell to Mrs Jennifer Laing who retires in June, having taught the current P7s one day a week since P3. Ladies, we thank you for the skills you have shared and the commitment you have shown to Campie School. We know you won’t be strangers and are excited to think you are hoping to return as volunteers sometime! Mrs Anne Riding has supported a P7 pupil for many years and is moving onto high school with him. We will miss her cheery, calm presence but we’re glad the Grammar will benefit from it, Anne. Mrs Liz Kerr has been with us teaching P2 since February. Liz has also organised our early years resources really well and we thank you Liz.. Miss Gauld, our Art teacher is returning to class teaching on Mondays so we wish her well. To help achieve budget restrictions, we are reducing our ASN Auxiliary allocation. Mrs Jan Noon will therefore also be leaving us in July. We thank her for her service to the children of Campie, particularly in our Base and wish her well for the future. 2

East Lothian Council have changed the way we manage permission slips for trips. Unfortunately, this means you will need to fill in and return more permission slips. Different categories of trips require different permissions. Category A activities are those which take place on a routine basis during the school day eg visits to local shops, panto, some events in local area. They will be covered by a termly or annual parental consent form. Category B are not routine visits and may extend beyond the school day eg museum visits, hillwalks. A parental consent form is required for EACH of these activities. If it’s a block of lessons eg kayaking course, one form can cover the 6 sessions. Most Campie outings come under Category B so you will have to fill in many more forms. We CANNOT let children go on outings without the consent form being filled in. Category C is for overnight or overseas activities eg School Camp.

From 31 May, a new 2 course hot meal menu is in place. Please note, there are no filled rolls in the new menu. You can see the full colour menu on the website. On Wednesday 17 June 2010, Karen is putting on a WORLD CUP FOOTBALL themed menu, which we are sure children will enjoy.

On Wednesday 26 May, the Campie Primary School Athletics team took part in the East Lothian Interscholastic Championships at Meadowbank. We are all very proud of our athletes both for the fantastic individual achievements and for the team’s excellent result of Third Place! Well done to coach, Mrs Jeffrey too. Way to go, Mrs Jeffrey! 3

We will notify you of the cancellation dates for each year group on the website and on the notice board in the playground at 8.45am on each Sports Day. We hope we won’t have to do this! Children should wear shorts, tee shirt, sweatshirt, trainers or gym shoes. No other footwear is allowed. They will take their milk/juice and snack with them to Olivebank. This year building work is going on at Olivebank so you will only be able to get there through Campie playground. There will be no café because of this so please bring your own refreshments. School toilets can be used, accessed via the school office. Families are welcome to come and see the Sports. We would ask you to keep under 5s away from the sports field. Teachers will supervise the children in their classes. A First Aid post will be in the dugouts and the school’s first aider, Mrs Rae, will be there, wearing a red bib with a white cross. 2 stewards wearing red bibs will assist you with any queries. A member of Campie Management Team will be in overall charge of the organisation of the Sports including Health and Safety and will wear a yellow bib. Let’s hope for lovely sunny weather and 3 great Sports Days! 4

The whole school are learning about how we feel when our lives are changing. It’s called EMOTIONAL LITERACY and you will have received a leaflet about it with some Family Homework for you to do. DON’T SEND IT BACK TO SCHOOL. It’s just for you to try out at home. These changes are huge for our P7s and we hope they enjoy their last four weeks at Campie because they have really been a fantastic P7—very responsive, caring and working hard at learning. What more could we ask for? We want to give them a very special send off so we are changing how we celebrate their last day, Thursday 1 July. We are inviting each P7 to bring 2 members of their family to a special P7 CELEBRATION EVENT in Campie. Tickets will be issued soon. The children’s family members are invited to come at 2pm for a 2.15pm start. They will see their children being piped into the hall to receive their very special CAMPIE YEAR BOOKS. At the end of the Celebration Event, the family guests will be invited to go to the playground and the P7s will be piped out of Campie for their last time as Campie pupils. The rest of the school will be around to cheer you on, P7. This is our way of thanking you P7s for all you have given Campie.
